Starbucks as a 1980's Startup Question Posted: 28 Feb 2020 01:57 AM PST Just finished reading Howard Schultz's book about the beginning, growth, and mass expansion of Starbucks. It's a fascinating & inspiring story. But I was surprised to see he only owns 3% of a $90 billion dollar company versus many founders of unicorns today who own 20-50% (To be fair Starbucks really started 10 years earlier, but thats a separate story). I wonder if he had played his cards differently, he'd own more of a smaller company - like 50% of $20 billion dollar company he'd be 3x richer. In his book, he mentioned in the early days he spent most of his time looking for financing and investors for expansion & the significant purchase of the Starbucks brand. My guess is the financing for aggressive growth required giving up significant stake and diluting the shares. If you were in his shoes at the startup stage of Starbucks, would you have done things differently to hold onto a greater stake? [link] [comments] |

Examples of de-regulation helping an industry/its customers? Posted: 27 Feb 2020 08:55 PM PST I'm writing a paper on why incentivizing competition would solve the U.S' relatively bad/noncompetitive internet service/telecom industry. I know that the Airline Deregulation Act helped improve the airline industry in a number of ways. Are there any other industries in which deregulation has had similar effects? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Feb 2020 06:21 PM PST Verizon's Xv520 Hello, I am a sole proprietor in my small business. Most of the time I'm taking my payments personally, but my clients come to me so it'd be easy for them to use a verifone to process payments. I've used Square and have briefly tried Paypal Here and they have a history of holding funds. I just would like to know, what would I need to set up a Verifone? Is it just as simple as buying it, setting it up, and the same day or next day I can start taking payments? I'm guessing that they have less of a history locking payments up as Square. Are the fees only calculated from the transactions I take? Thanks please let me know. [link] [comments] |
Guidance Please: Pricing Structure for Selling in Bulk Posted: 27 Feb 2020 06:19 PM PST We sell a 6-month consultancy service which is currently priced at $500 per month (total = $3,000) and we are looking for orientation on how to structure our pricing with discounts to incentivize our clients to order in bulk, please. We are considering incentivizing clients by giving two discounts:
If someone paid for all 12 months at once, would this warrant a double-discount? [link] [comments] |

What’s the best way to become my own boss? Posted: 27 Feb 2020 02:05 PM PST Im not looking for get rich quick or easy money, I'm wanting to start a business primarily for the advantages of being my own boss and and to take back some control of my life and get that sense of fulfillment from success that being an employee doesn't allow me to have. I have about $15k handy to invest initially, some ideas I'm evaluating are landscaping, home improvement, or some other type of contractor work mainly because of my experience in those areas, but I'm open to anything that gives me a good probability of generating some positive cash flow within my first month of operations and has the potential to be netting me say $70k+/year within 5 or so years of business operations. What are some other business ideas I should look at? Looking to start my business in the Carolina's or Florida if that matters. [link] [comments] |

Help finding a software solution Posted: 27 Feb 2020 07:56 AM PST Hi all, I'm looking for some help figuring out a solution to what we are currently doing. I work in marketing team of two people, but I'm looking for some software that our contract managers can use as well. We provide personnel as a service, with all of our clients being other businesses/govt etc. Our current method of storing information is a spreadsheet I created, however the other person who really seems to use it, including creating notes is myself, and even then it's not as up to date as it could be. We still print everything for file, though I am trying to save copies to the digital file as well, it's not a universal practice. From my standpoint, I'm only in touch with the client pretty much annually to get them to review new rates or a contract, but the contract manager should have a lot more contact, and there's a disconnect in keeping everyone up to date in the goings-on. Additionally, it'd be nice to have a centralized area for customer information and rates that everyone can view and we can use as gospel. I've looked at some CRM software, but the area I'm struggling with is the section for rates, in particular having it be a field, so it's a report I can run. My demanding list of wants is below, if there is a certain type of software, or even a specific one I should be looking at, I'd love the recommendations.

Look at the way my buddy Wesley Virgin's story launches with this SHOCKING AND CONTROVERSIAL VIDEO.
ReplyDeleteYou see, Wesley was in the army-and shortly after leaving-he discovered hidden, "SELF MIND CONTROL" tactics that the government and others used to get everything they want.
THESE are the EXACT same secrets many famous people (notably those who "come out of nowhere") and top business people used to become wealthy and successful.
You've heard that you utilize only 10% of your brain.
That's really because most of your BRAINPOWER is UNTAPPED.
Maybe that conversation has even taken place INSIDE your own mind... as it did in my good friend Wesley Virgin's mind seven years back, while riding a non-registered, garbage bucket of a car with a suspended license and on his debit card.
"I'm absolutely fed up with going through life payroll to payroll! When will I get my big break?"
You've taken part in those questions, right?
Your very own success story is waiting to start. All you have to do is in YOURSELF.
