I am a complete beginner in the stock market how to start ?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 08:45 AM PST

Started reading on how people make money off it and if I understand correctly the basic concept is buying a share e.g for 100$ and then there's 2 ways of making money off it.

1)either by profits from the company (dividends I think)

2)holding the stock until it gets higher so selling at 120$ for example would give me 20 bucks profit per share. (Please fix me if I understood it wrong)

Now if I understood the basics of it how do I start from here ? I thought on starying with 500$ and buying a single share of big comapnies like Apple AMD Microsoft and hold to them a year or so to see how it goes and get a better understanding on the market. But i'm asking here before doing anything I might regret later on.

EDIT 1: Thanks for all the answers. Sorry for not calling it earlier but I am not a US resident and i'm 21 so still a student in university. However, I am definitely interested in American stocks to buy and hold so that's a bit of a challenge to do since fees look very high in small amounts of money.

Beware stock-market ‘FOMO’ as Wall Street churns out records, says long-term bull

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 02:30 PM PST

Indicators 'simply favor not chasing the market higher': Canaccord's Dwyer

With the U.S. stock market churning out a string of record highs, it would be no surprise for investors with some money on the sidelines might start feeling what people nowadays call "FOMO" — or fear of missing out.

But now is probably not the right time to get tactically aggressive, said one analyst who called earlier this month for a market pullback but also happens to be bullish on the long-term outlook for equities.

"While anything can happen, our indicators simply favor not chasing the market higher on fear of missing out (FOMO)," wrote Tony Dwyer, analyst at Cannacord Genuity, in a Tuesday note.

Renewable energy stocks to bet on?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 05:58 AM PST

IF a Democrat were to win the presidential election I believe renewable energy stocks would jump in value. Even if Trump were to be re-elected I still see renewable energy growing, albeit just slower.

I would like to hear of any renewable energy stocks or indexes you own or you have your eye on and maybe a reason as to why!

Highschooler With Part time Job looking for investment suggestions

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 02:23 PM PST

Hey guys. I'm a minor with a part time job at Staples. I make approx 200 a week after taxes. I'm also interning at a Hedge Fund where I am developing ML Traders.

Ive done long term trading before and doubled my money. But that was pure luck, and also the economy was just going up.

Do you guys have any suggestions on the most efficient way and what to trade given my current financial situation? (Currently am trading with 600 and made round 50 on DIS)

Edit: Should I just save up and then invest that? Is it worth it to invest with the amount that I currently have? Given that I don't really have any expenses rn should I put everything into investments or split it between investing and savings accounts?

    Morningstar - Portfolio performance

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 10:05 AM PST

Hi, anyone else out there using Morningstar to track portfolio performance?

    https://imgur.com/a/hfkR3fi

I'm not sure what the difference between the "Total Return" and "Personal Return" is at the bottom of the image. It seems very close and I was thinking it could be dividends causing the discrepency. Anyone know for certain?

    Many thanks.

    Index fund bubble?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 10:03 AM PST

    Hey fellas!

What are your takes on the rumored index fund bubble?

Currently I've got a chunk of my savings in global index funds since they are supposedly very diversified. However, with the rumored bubble maybe it would be wise to diversify elsewhere?

    Facebook vs Amazon

    So fool just posted this:

    https://www.fool.com/investing/2019/11/26/better-buy-amazoncom-vs-facebook.aspx

And I pretty much agree. Amazon has the edge but I admit it is a pretty close call. How about you?

Buy on the Rumor, Sell on the News

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 07:56 AM PST

Is the market going to tank after the Phase One trade deal is signed? I suppose it depends on how strong the Buy on the Rumor, Sell on the News feeling is, but I think it may be the catalyst for a Dec/Jan pull back.

I Invested in Tesla at Age 19 and Explained My Reasoning || Critique My Logic Please

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 01:47 AM PST

The title pretty much says it all. I invested in Tesla last Friday when the price dropped. I then made a video explaining my reason for investing after the CyberTruck announcement. I would love to get feedback on my logic for investing in Tesla. I am rather young so I am looking for confirmation anywhere I can find it :P

I also tried to make the video interesting so please feel free to skip parts that aren't related. The video is not monetized so I am not making any money off this.

    Thanks in advance!
