Those with 5 to 10 years experience. What's is job security like for you in Sales?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 11:49 AM PDT

Whether you're an average player or a top earner I'd like to hear everyone's personal experience. Been looking to change industries to Sales but currently I'm very stable and don't want to give it up only to get smacked by layoffs if the economy slows down with all the talk of recession doom and gloom.

In case anyone wants to know I'm 24. No sales experience but confident in my speaking skills and charismatic. Been working as a Pharmacy Tech since I got out of high school basically.

    Seasonal depression

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 10:48 AM PDT

It's that time of the year again- the time where waking up seems exceptionally difficult and getting out of bed thrice so.

I genuinely love sales but it's so very hard to find the energy to be not even exceptional, but even average when these come down.

Fellow depressed salespeople- what do you do to break yourselves out of a rut? Where do you tap in to find the energy?

    Cheers, thanks for reading.

How do I find good sales jobs?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 07:00 AM PDT

I'm a 22 year old, recent college grad. I current work for a start-up SaaS company as the only Account Executive.

Here's the background: I found this job through a career fair in college and went through all the interviews. During this time, I was very much interviewing them as much as they were interviewing me. My first face-to-face interview was with the sales manager and he was awesome. High energy, experienced in the field, and from what I know, was crushing it. There were three other sales people and they seemed to be having a blast because they were making a lot of money. I got hired on as an SDR with a sure path to Account Executive.

A couple weeks after I got the job, the sales manager got fired due to unknown circumstances and the atmosphere completely changed. Sales went down tremendously and all the sales people clearly didn't want to be there. They all left within the next 3-4 months.

I quickly moved from an SDR to Account Executive position and as the last salesperson for the company, the job became something completely different to what I initially signed up for. They haven't filled the sales manager position since and I report to one of the officers. My boss very clearly doesn't have enough time to oversee day-to-day operations for sales and the job is not fun at all.

The company is struggling to make sales and my boss told me that we are at 15% target. He's clearly stressed and shmoozes me all the time to keep me here, but it's not working. To put it simply, I don't like working for him. I want out ASAP.

I'm currently looking for jobs and I would prefer not to be an SDR again unless I have sure fire career progression.

I have two questions: - I moved up to an Account Executive position very quickly and I haven't been here very long. Should I continue working here a little longer because of my title even though I hate it? - I am still very interested in sales and I am looking through Indeed. How do I make sure I find a great job and I don't get into another situation like the one I'm currently in?

Thank you for reading this lengthy post and I appreciate any kind of advice.

I'm an SDR. I work for a SaaS company that automates vendor compliance and risk assessments. My head of marketing wants us to add photos to our email signature. What do you think?

I think it's weird. And should be reserved for building a personal brand, rather than a company brand. What do you think?

Losing my passion for sales now that my company is just another commodity distributor. Any helpful advice from you good people?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 10:21 AM PDT

I originally stumbled into sales about 8 years ago and fell in love with it for many reasons, the main one being that I felt like I actually provided a benefit to my customers, which I did. We were a small company and served a niche in our industry since we weren't authorized to sell the big name brand products that are over 60 percent of the market.

However my company has grown significantly over the years and now we're just a commodity reseller with nothing really better to offer than the other large sellers in our market. I've lost my passion because now I'm just fighting to keep my customers since we've got nothing that really differentiates us from the competition and too often it comes down to price, even with long standing customers.

I'm safe and comfortable here, except for losing sales, and nervous to change. I used to work in software development 20 years ago, would you recommend looking into SAAS sales as an option to bring something special and beneficial to customers to help get my sales fire burning again? Any other helpful advice would definitely be appreciated.

Anyone in the dental field or have left the dental field?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 10:43 AM PDT

What has been your experience if you are or have been in the dental field? Whether that's been selling equipment, implants, working for a dental laboratory? How does the commission side of dental sales compare to other industries? If you have left why did you?

Best Took to Export Sales Nav Leads to Excel

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 10:13 AM PDT

    Hi there

Just wondering what the general consensus was for best tool to achieve mass export of sales nav leads to excel (csv).

Currently using duc soup but find it has been unreliable in terms of scrapping a large list of leads.

Ideally would like to export a 50,000 name sales nav list to excel.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I want to hear from the women on this sub what you do, how many hours you work, how much OTE?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 09:29 AM PDT

As the title states, I'd love to hear from the women on this sub. I know sales is a male dominated field, but the women I've met in sales thus far are spitfire and incredibly inspiring. I'm currently an undergrad looking to break into the field after graduation and would love to garner some inspiration from you!

How do you get the director to come to the meeting as well?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 09:22 AM PDT

I sell commodities to hospitals and can get a purchasing manager to take time and sit with me but I can't get the person above them to sit in as well. I'll send email invites to them or have the person ask for me. The one time I got the director to sit in on the meeting, we sold them immediately and started getting purchasing orders filled in 3 weeks.

I don't know with it being commodities has something to do with it. Is it just hit or miss? I know they're busy, so are most to all meetings off the table?

LinkedIn Growth Hack or Bad Idea?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 09:19 AM PDT

If you're not already aware, LinkedIn allows you to import a list of contacts from your address book, either through your mobile device or your email provider(Gmail/Outlook).

So here's the hack. Good or bad? You tell me.

    1. Buy a list of targeted contacts, let's say 5,000
    2. Import that list of 5,000 contacts to Gmail (for example)
    3. Import all contacts from Gmail to LinkedIn, and for all "found" contacts who have a LinkedIn account, send them a connection request

It sounds quick and easy. Your accepted connection rate may end up being very low, but even if it's 10%, that's 500 quick targeted contacts added to your account. And after some time (let's say 45 days) you can go clean out your "sent requests" for those who haven't accepted.

    Has anyone tried this?

Advice for a recent graduate working in Marketing who wants to move across to sales

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 09:16 AM PDT

    Hello,

A recent business graduate, working in digital marketing analytics at a SME Cloud company (PaaS and IaaS not SaaS), I have been there since August so nearly 3 months, my probation finishes at the end of the month. I have found the role really interesting and I'm really grateful for the opportunity they have given me because they made the role just for me and had to make budget etc. However, 3 months in and I just keep thinking 'I wish I had gone into sales'. I'm only 22, so it's not like its too late for a career change! However, I feel like I owe the company as they worked hard to get me a position and I get on very well with my manager who is great. Should I raise this internally and say 'I feel I would be better placed in sales' (although they may disagree). Or should I begin applying for Business Development Executive roles elsewhere?

They are expanding and hiring new sales guys right now, but they're asking for 5 years experience.

Thanks in advance to anyone who has any tips, or has been in this situation themselves.

    Interview Process with Paychex

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 09:07 AM PDT

So long story short I am a recent college grad with limited sales experience. I worked in a sales role where I did telemarketing and community events for an insurance agent as an intern a few years ago but all my other internship experiences and current jobs have been in brand marketing and strategy.

I'm trying to make the move to sales to capitalize on my presentation and people skills. I have gone through two rounds of interviews at Paychex (HR recruiter and then district manager). After meeting with the DSM she told me I presented really well but was concerned about my lack of sales experience. Regardless, I am moving on in the interview process to a ride along shadow with a rep hopefully followed by an interview with the regional manager.

I REALLY want this job, Paychex seems like an excellent company to begin in sales and I have felt very at home in my interviews so far. My question is: what can I expect/are they looking for in the ride along and how can I spin my lack of experience more positively so I can land the job?

I really appreciate any and all responses :)

2 reps selling to the same account

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 09:07 AM PDT

Hello, Looking for a opinions on this as I am just not sure if I should be pissed, let it be or what. I have an account that recently acquired one of their competitors. We provided goods and services for both. One of the other reps, the sales manager, sold to the account that was acquired and has continued to do so. The other account is still a sub unit/brand of my client. Not a large account but they still spend money. TIA.

Strange Question when on the road..

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 07:26 AM PDT

    Okay folks,

It's on all of our minds when you head out in the morning, what happens if I have to poop?

Right!? Just saying that struck fear into you. Where are your hidden gem spots where you feel so uneasy about public toilets?

    Questions, thoughts, concerns? Go!

    Selling cannabis products

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 07:14 AM PDT

I recently got the opportunity to become a budtender at a dispensary. Eventually I'd like to move into B2B sales within the industry. What is needed to break into this field? How competitive is it? What should someone with my goals know about the industry?

Salesmen of Reddit, what is in your EDC kit?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 07:09 AM PDT

Recently I talked with an old friend of mine, who is into EDC, and has demonstrated how you can ballpark what is one's job just by looking at his EDC.

That got me thinking to notice what is "profession EDC" for sales people. Just for fun I'll start with myself:

In my EDC briefcase I carry:

    1. Smartphone
    2. Business cards in a case
    3. Company catalogues
    4. Hardcover notebook
    5. Sales binder (thin 2-ring binder with printed slideshows for presenting, order forms, necessary certificates, price list for impromptou quotes, empty business quote forms, empty pre & post sale planing sheets)
    6. 2X Orient Express pens, one in black, one in blue
    7. Bosch laser measuring device
    8. Opinel No. 8 knife
    9. Mints
