r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Technicals Tuesday - Oct 29, 2019 Posted: 29 Oct 2019 01:06 AM PDT This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on technical analysis (TA), but if TA is not your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against TA here and not in the current post. Some helpful day to day links, including news:
Technical analysis (TA) uses historical price movements, real time data, indicators based on math and/or statistics, and charts; all of which help measure the trajectory of a security. TA can also be used to interpret the actions of other market participants and predict their actions. The main benefit to TA is that everything shows up in the price (commonly known as "priced in"): All news, investor sentiment, and changes to fundamentals are reflected in a security's price. TA can be useful on any timeframe, both short and long term. Beyond Meat shares plunge 20% despite solid results as insiders rush for the exits Posted: 29 Oct 2019 07:22 AM PDT Beyond Meat's stock is down about 20% as the recent IPO's stock lockup expires. As of market open Tuesday, roughly 75% of Beyond Meat's outstanding shares became eligible to trade on the public market. Wall Street is bullish on the stock after its first profitable earnings report on Monday, but the analysts warn that won't matter with the wave of selling coming. Beyond Meat's CEO Ethan Brown told CNBC he is not touching his shares after the lockup. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Oct 2019 07:05 AM PDT About 80% of stocks I'm following are down, is there any given reason as to why? (Sorry if my question sounds a bit silly, I'm still fairly new to the world of investing in the stock market) [link] [comments] |
Opening a US brokerage account as a foreigner Posted: 29 Oct 2019 11:03 AM PDT Hey! I wanted to ask if there is a way to open a US brokerage account as a non US resident, and if so which broker would be the simplest to open an account with. Thanks [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Oct 2019 12:57 PM PDT Is this possible? Someone claims that they can get 5 to 10% off any stock without any bids, asks or limit or options I was speaking with a coworker and she claims that with any stock she has the ability to get a discount off the stock by up to 5 to 10%. I was super skeptical. The only way I can think that one could go about doing this is either via bids and asks or by a limit price. So I clarified with her. I typed in Google's stock and showed her the chart. Then I told her, "You're telling me that you can buy this stock at this very second for 10% off the current amount (what was on the screen) She proceeded to tell me that she could. I then clarified with her further. She told me it's not a limit, nor a bid or an ask. And it's not options. So no shorts or calls. When I asked for elaboration and played dumb, ie. "Hey, I don't know much about investing and never heard about this. Can you teach me?" -- She later mentioned it would take her about an hour for her to teach this to me, etc. I'm super skeptical. Never come across anything like this before. But wondering whether anyone else has insight on the matter. [link] [comments] |
Netflix partnerships could become more attractive to marketers in a down economy, analysts predict Posted: 29 Oct 2019 10:14 AM PDT A new report from Forrester research predicts that marketers will double their spend on marketing partnership with Netflix, like product placement and "other creative marketing integrations with brands." This will come as marketers increasingly seek more natural and less intrusive ways to reach consumers, instead of bombarding them with traditional ads. Netflix steadfastly denies that it looks to paid product placement in shows as an important current or future source of revenue. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Oct 2019 11:51 AM PDT Vancouver, British Columbia: PreveCeutical Medical Inc. (the "Company" or "PreveCeutical") (CSE: PREV, OTCQB: PRVCF, FSE: 18H), is pleased to announce the successful completion of the design, synthesis and preliminary evaluation of key peptides from its scorpion venom-derived peptide research and development program (the "Peptide Program"). The Peptide Program is expected to enable the Company to develop their own proprietary, Nature IdenticalTM, peptide therapeutics, which are intended for therapeutic applications. PreveCeutical's initial therapeutic focus was to understand the activities of such peptides in cell-based brain cancer models. In the first stages of the Peptide Program, PreveCeutical's research partner successfully identified four peptides that individually inhibit the activity of a target protein (the "Target Protein") implicit in the progression of certain brain cancers (see news release dated March 11, 2019). In the final stage of the Peptide Program, the four peptides were further tested in a number of in vitro studies in certain brain cancer cell lines and also in a patient-derived neural oncosphere cell line of a brain cancer. Screening of the four peptides in an invasion assay model showed that they had ability to reduce the invasion potential in brain cancer cell types (see news release dated April 10, 2019). The Company believes that this is an important development given that "invasion" is a key driver of the aggressiveness, rapid spread and poor prognosis commonly associated with certain brain cancers. From these studies, two peptides showed the most potential for further development as therapeutic agents in the management of certain brain cancers. These two lead peptides were able to inhibit the activity of the Target Protein, which resulted in an obvious slowing of invasion, with the reduction in invasion particularly being seen in the oncospheres. The two peptides also displayed modest suppression of an important cancer cell marker, which has a role in promoting cancer spread/metastasis and is also associated with drug and immune resistance in brain cancer. Both lead candidates are a fraction of the size and structural complexity of Chlorotoxin, a scorpion venom-derived peptide known to target brain cancer cells from scientific literature. PreveCeutical is now accelerating the process of evaluating options on how best to progress the two lead peptide drug candidates, which may include partnering to expedite their pre-clinical evaluation. The pre-clinical outcomes, along with the Company's IP coverage, would have the -2- pharma R & D / biotech companies active in the therapeutic neuro-oncology space. PreveCeutical's President and Chief Science Officer, Dr. Mak Jawadekar stated, "We are indeed quite excited to have accomplished further strides towards proof of concept for these innovative Nature IdenticalTM peptide therapeutics for application into the neuro-oncology therapeutic area and look forward to progressing them through proof of concept studies." Inherited 2 stocks, would like your opinions on them. Posted: 29 Oct 2019 09:48 AM PDT My wife and I have inherited 2 stocks from her father that passed. One was www.astfinancial.com from what I can gather that was is called AST. The other one is first energy. Our goal is to move things to lower risk index funds, we're not stock market people and have 30 years to let it sit, seems like a for sure way to do well in the market. The question is do we pull the funds out of these stocks now or let them sit until better times before pulling them out? If you have a good argument to make for leaving the money in the stock I suppose we'd be open to that option as well the AST stock seems like it's doing terribly and cutting and running feels good. On the first energy stock it seems to be a proven money maker but right now it's higher than it's been in the last 5 years, maybe a good time to sell and reposition the money. The only reason I was considering letting them sit is if you guys thought they were going to go up in the short term, over the next year maybe. Any advice appreciated, Thank you! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Oct 2019 03:44 AM PDT I've had BABA since day 1 and was thinking of selling it this year but this split has me questioning that decision. Historically have splits been more often positive then negative? I believe I read something about how they were going to time the split with the HK listing which was delayed to the issues over there. So this makes me wonder if they are all ready to go and just waiting for things to settle down and list before the end of the year or is it more likely they will wait till next year? I know that might sound like I'm asking a geo political question but I just want to know what would the normal time be for a company to split the stock? [link] [comments] |

Seeking visual representation of Historical S&P 500 stocks. Posted: 28 Oct 2019 10:54 PM PDT Having troubles finding what I'm looking for, so figured I would post in here to see if anyone can help. I'm looking for a graphic or slide bar that allows me to see the different stocks that are in the S&P any given year. Something that segments them out by cap size or at least let's me filter it. Would love to be able to slide along the year and see different stocks move up, down, or out of the S&P. Thanks in advance and apologies if this is in the wrong sub. UPDATE: This is the closest I have found so far....but it doesn't go up to 2019. [link] [comments] |
