Staring my first retail sales job for Skechers. My KPIs are based on selling non-sale items, socks and shoe care. How can I get better at this?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 04:41 AM PDT

I work at the retail outlet and it's a high foot traffic store. I was overwhelmed on my first day because I had to push for the full priced items, despite everyone gravitating towards the sale items.

How can I get better at pushing the other products?

Interviews with ADP & Pegasystems this week.

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 09:36 AM PDT

Hello r/sales this week I have interviews at both Pegasystems and ADP, was wondering if anyone has any tips or pointers. This is a huge step up from me in Biz Dev and Account management. I'm kind of nervous.

Edit: Also, if anyone has any experience working there let me know what it's like. These are both enterprise level jobs FWIW

Getting a job offer but waiting for interview

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 10:24 AM PDT

So I'm applying to wireless sales jobs, I already have an offer at sprint, but I'm interviewing at Verizon tomorrow, and that's a position I would prefer over sprint because of location, pay, etc.

Sprint says they'll send me a formal offer in a few days with a 24 hour deadline to accept, but if I get the Verizon job I would take that over sprint.

    What should I do?

    Competitor set a fake demo?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 09:58 AM PDT

Hello all. I have evidence that gives me a strong suspicion a local B2B competitor has used a real prospect to stage a "fake demo" with me.

I got a VM from the prospect where he left his direct contact info, but my phone system's caller ID said the call came from my competitor's local office.

I've been going head to head with this competitor a lot lately. Overall I've been beating them and they are not happy about it. Best I can guess, this is a ruse and they're trying get inside info/pricing or see what my presentation is.

[edit to add] I should have mentioned: I did some google detective work ahead of time and confirmed this is the owner of the business I was speaking to. The contact is legit. In my business, the sales orgs sometimes have personal connections with business owners so my suspicion is they know him and put him up to it.

So I called the "prospect" and had a good conversation, while I tried to spot any "tells" or see if anything seemed amiss.

Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but something is weird here.

I scheduled a demo in the near future, to give me time to figure out what to do.

    I'm trying to decide:

    • Should I forthright (and diplomatically) ask about the caller ID?
    • Should I continue as normal and see what happens?
    • Something else?

Has anyone out there run into a similar situation? Or have any advice?

Looking for Perspective on Potential Job Change

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 08:28 AM PDT

Hello! I would love to gather any thoughts or experiences to help me make a decision on a job change. I'm currently selling a SaaS platform in the corporate space. Some recent developments shook our team a bit and I put some feelers out there. I've come across an opportunity to sell CRM implementation consulting (general sales consulting as well) services to corporate targets.

I'm weighing all the factors surrounding compensation, benefits, etc. I've also sold services in the past, so I am not looking for insights on the differences with the sales approach. Mostly, I'm interested in collecting some views on the 'bigger picture.' What's the better move for the long term? Keep looking for another SaaS opportunity and stay in this general space or switch to selling consulting services and run with it? Ultimately, I can't know how anything will unfold and there so many factors at play. So, I'm curious if anyone has been through a similar career transition or knows someone that has? How'd it play out?

Any thoughts are welcome and much appreciated...Thank you!

Sales commission based on MRR with NO contract to customer, thoughts?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 08:28 AM PDT

I have been offered a job where I have a base salary, and I get the first month of NEW MRR. Im trying to wrap my head around this concept. It is an Managed Services Provider (IT) and while a new customer will have a 1 year contract, it is the hope of the business that the customer will go to a month-to-month and kind of forget it like a gym membership. So, my issue I see is there is not incentive for me to keep a relationship with this new customer after the initial 1 year term, unless I up-sell them on the product offerings. The MSP is thinking of getting a CRM person in the next 6 months. So, for me to make a good living on commissions I am going to have to keep getting NEW companies all the time. I question if the MSP will even be able to support all the new customers that I might bring in? Will there be a time where they say we cant bring on more clients? That are your thoughts on this? Thanks all!

Passed my sales goal for month. Better to carry pending sales into next month or close them out for a good October?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 11:42 AM PDT

So I've been in sales for about 3 months now. We were projected to have a slow month and somehow hit my sales goal which is 5% projected growth from last year. I have a few good orders pending which i could close out in the next couple days before November. Should I wait it out for a good start to November or close big for the month even though I'm already way ahead of my goal?

Mock phone call for SDR interview

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 11:32 AM PDT

    Hello all!

I've finished a couple rounds of interviews for an SDR position and it has gone super well. I feel like I definitely will be offered the position. All there is left to do is a mock phone call and mock email. I have never actually done a phone call like this and was just looking for some tips. I will have to get past the gatekeeper, overcome some objections, and schedule him for a meeting with one of our sales representatives. I'm just looking for some tips or even someone who would want to do a mock call with me!

    Thanks in advance

If you ever wondered what marketing does

What should I do ? I am concerned

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 04:31 AM PDT

I am managing a small team of three sales people. The team has done pretty well last quarter and have overachieved the targets. The last month though, has been a slow one. Since we were not getting good leads, there has been a dip in sales.

The company has been pretty flexible with timings and everything. But lately I feel worried that the they are not bothered much. Even though they did not hit the targets I still find them scrolling through Facebook and watching YouTube videos all day. I don't want to pin point these things as they will feel like they are being micromanaged and would react negatively to it.

What do I do? I feel bothered by this

    Cold calling

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 09:39 AM PDT

I work in a cold calling office and most of the guys put up hundreds if not thousands of dollars a day. I've been working here for 3 months and I don't always get a deal every day. But I get a few call backs and buying signs. Sometimes I convert them sometimes I don't. So I was wondering if it's bad that I don't get a deal every day. Im working hard at it and getting better and better slowly. Just don't know if I should be worried about job security.

How can I improve my prospecting and handle tire kickers on LinkedIn?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 08:13 AM PDT

    Greetings everyone.

I'm prospecting on LinkedIn to sell my email marketing & copywriting services and I haven't booked a call yet but the prospects that are connecting and replying so far won't even get on the phone with me unless I talk price or send samples of my work as opposed to finding out whether I can actually help on a super quick call. Come to think of it, it's like they're not actually interested in growing their businesses.

I can understand people being interested in knowing what kind of results my style of writing could bring for their audience but I know that a random sample won't resonate with a prospect or their goals for their business so it won't mean much to them and I've found that I don't hear back from the people I send samples to.

I mean, today a prospect accepted my connection request and I asked if he's got an active email list and thinks he could make more sales from it and he just goes "prices". WTF?

I don't ever want to talk price or send samples without at least agreeing on what happens next. Its not putting food on my table

Any advice on how I can overcome this situation with prospects?

I have a great product, where should I sell it to?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 08:00 AM PDT

So we've created a business where we sell hampers and gift boxes for dogs. Its something that sounds quite mundane but we've sold loads through methods like ebay, facebook, etsy etc. With each hamper you'll get a selection of toys and treats personalised to your dog.

We're selling 1 per day roughly, so i know theres definitely a market. But my goal is to sell several more and scale this business. Ive been toying with the idea of creating a lootbox subscription where every 2 weeks you get a box full of random dog items. The only problem is, I dont know where to go from here to sell several per day.

Have you guys got any ideas or pointers?

Thoughts on gaining small business clients - Groupon style software development

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 07:13 AM PDT

    Hello,

We are a Flutter development agency and trying to find ways to cut the costs for clients while trying to differentiate ourselves from others.

The idea is to split the cost of development on a app or website that more than one client would want. For example, we create a tablet menu app that connects to the kitchen where they receive the orders. If we were to get 6 different restaurants to split the cost of development, we could build a white labeled version and swap out logos and colors. This would save each restaurant lots of development costs and give us 6 clients to work with.

    Thoughts on this approach?

About to go from D2D to Telephone.

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 07:12 AM PDT

Hey all! I'm about to switch position's from going Door 2 Door selling, to now being a Telemarketer and instead of doing cold doors, I will now be doing cold calls.

What are some tips, tricks and some of do's and Dont's I should look for.

And if someone has been in a similar position, what should be the biggest changes I have coming?

Will be selling a similar product/service.

    Thanks.

Questions to ask AE manager regarding a promotion?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 08:44 PM PDT

I know that my company will be hiring a bunch of AEs in December/January and I have asked our AE manager for coffee tomorrow to talk about it. I'm currently an SDR.

My plan is to ask him what he is looking for in an AE, as well as what I can do to prepare for when the opportunity arises. What are some other questions that I should ask him?

This is a follow up to my last post on this sub. I listened to everyone's advice and applied it.

I have 3 phone interviews this week and 8 in-person interviews next week!

3 of which are in entry level sales engineering roles which I'm very excited for and the rest are SDR/BDR/AE.

My goal was to start my career before Christmas so I could have a paycheck or two to buy my family gifts for once and now it's looking like that goal will become reality.

I appreciate all of you who reached out with advice and encouragement and everyone involved in this sub, it really is an absolute wealth of knowledge.

I feel like manager is fucking me over, how do i act accordingly?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 04:21 AM PDT

I got a job at a company in EU, first i did the interview with the sales manager from my Country, then with the Director from the Company's Country.

We agreed to start working part time, until i will go to the Company for the training (in February, also have a scholarship), but everything i talk via email is also sent to the manager in my Country.

Also, during a phone call a few days ago, he was very sleazy and sketchy, i could feel him being nervous and agitated. I also felt like he was trying to convince me to do his work / find clients for HIM.

I do not like the idea of someone taking the credit for the work that i do, given the fact that i fucking worked my ass off. I am in this shit for a reason, and that is money.

I am afraid of being underpaid/taken advantage of, do any of you have any tips?

do you guys ever get people bragging about how much money they make?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 12:56 PM PDT

I own an SEO company and meet with business owners. More than once, I've had people talk about how much money they make, or how much money they've made, but then they can't afford my services.

Recently I met with a guy and quoted him $1,500 - $3,000 per month. He stands to make $10-$190 thousand per month (after about a year). He said that was too much. Next, he talks about how his last project made a little money, $25k per month, and he sold it. Now I don't know what people do with their money but this didn't seem standard to me.

When I'm trying to keep from buying something I talk about how little money I have, not how much I make.

I understand some people don't have the money for things, but why talk about how much you make or used to make while telling me you don't have money?

As of 2019, what SaaS companies would you say have an amazing culture and are great to sell for as a younger person?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 05:45 PM PDT

After quitting my very first job in SaaS due to a toxic culture even though my numbers were strong, I realized the importance of a culture where coworkers are somewhat supportive and nepotism isn't as common (even though it happens almost everywhere).

I currently sell for a startup and am in my 11th month here, this is the first company I have been at where I actually love the culture and the people I am around. The company is very early-stage and at some point in the future, I want to sell for a larger company.

I've heard certain big companies like Oracle for example have a very toxic culture, any in particular that have a good one?
