    Thoughts on Canopy Growth?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 09:15 AM PDT

Bought a bunch of shares right before they crashed 2 weeks ago and i bought more last week to average down. They just keep falling day after day. I originally just wanted a quick flip but it looks like I might have to hold for a looong time before I see profit.

Personally I might buy more because at 21$ I feel like they are way undervalued right now. What do you guys think about the marijuana business?

Why’re most things going so far down right now?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 07:02 AM PDT

In the past 2 days most of my shares have just started to plummet, but I can't figure out what's causing it. I'm seeing even worse losses than during the heat of the trade war. Does anyone know why?

Am I cursed or does this happen to everyone?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 04:29 AM PDT

I swear every stock I have ever bought drops the day I buy it. The majority of my stocks are solid, MSFT, V, MC, FIS, etc. but every single time I decide to buy more shares of any stock it drops. I know it will go up in the long term but it's still frustrating.

How do taxes on buying stocks work?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:10 PM PDT

So I don't do my own taxes, a family friend does mine and my family's taxes. I'm curious as to how buying stocks (particularly for dividend growth investing) would show on my taxes when someone does them? I wonder about this because my parents aren't exactly on board with me investing in the stock market but I do still live with them.

Thanks in advance for any info!

Thoughts on UTC merger with Raytheon?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 02:59 PM PDT

Thought this deserved its own post because of how high-profile it is.

Context: The merger, announced a few months ago (I believe?) caused a major pushback by investors and the stock fell 5% almost immediately. Critics claim Raytheon has little to offer UTC and the merger is not financially motivated- rather, it's motivated by empire-building. Others say the merger would buy them more bargaining power with their biggest client, the Pentagon.

Anyways, that was just my take on things. I've had this stock forever (it was actually the first one I bought, as soon as I turned 13, and it's proved to be recession resistant) but I was wondering if anyone had their take on this/ any thoughts.

    Baby Boomer Liquidation

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 01:11 PM PDT

    Hey Everyone,

We're hearing a ton about ISM Manufacturing slowdown being the worst levels since 2009, ADP job growth under expectations, and overall global slowdown. YES this is all concerning, but I believe there is an underlying factor that is not being discussed enough, Baby Boomer Liquidation. I'll use the range from 1946 to 1964, the oldest baby boomer is about 73 and the youngest would be 55 for the purpose of this conversation.

From my stand point, with my parents approaching retirement age, I do not see why any 55-73 year old would have money in this volatile market. I think as we begin to see more negative data (ie all these negative ISM/ADP/GDP), we're going to see accelerated selling by this specific demographic trying to preserve wealth, both 401ks and normal portfolios. Additionally, with people working a bit longer than they used to (i dont have the data), I can imagine people probably have kept their money in the market a little longer than they should have, or at least if they're under 65, they still likely have exposure.

Overall just wanted to start a discussion about this, does anyone feel similar? I don't wanna go throwing around the R word lightly, this time feels a bit different than the last few pullbacks. I have liquidated all my stocks as of yesterday afternoon.

PSA: This post could age very poorly

    Going commission free

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:08 PM PDT

I'm seeing more brokers going commission free. I assume that over the course of this year all of them will do so from the pressure even if they loose profits. I've been using rh for the majority and was wondering if there was a clear favorite to use when it came to trading now that the major ones like TD have become commission free.

    Thematic indexes/Thematic investing?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:08 PM PDT

So, I recently came upon the MSCI Thematic Indexes and I'm trying to gather the scope of using this approach to understand a company or industry's exposure to external events.

Are there other sort of indexes like this? Any write ups on these techniques? Anyone have any thoughts on using tools like this to understand a company exposure to industry trends?

How do I make money off of others fear?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 10:28 AM PDT

So everyone can see the market is dropping pretty hard right now and has been for a while now. I am currently up for the year but can't help but think I'm going about this stocks thing all wrong. I straight up never even see these coming and always lose a lot of money that I earned in the process. I am very close to hitting my starting point and then its back to the red for me.

My biggest positions are in Microsoft and Disney if that helps. Any advice at all is helpful. If you need to yell/use all caps go ahead. I want to learn. Downvotes are also welcomed. Thanks!
