Millennials are keeping the US out of recession Posted: 22 Oct 2019 06:31 AM PDT Yesterday: "Millennials ruining the economy, worst group of people ever." Today: "Millennials are keeping the US out of recession". I hate the news. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/22/millennials-are-keeping-the-us-out-of-recession-tony-dwyer.html [link] [comments]
Rate of decay/contango on VIXY? Posted: 22 Oct 2019 11:16 PM PDT Due to low volatility 10 or so days ago I bought a bit of VIXY thinking that the volatility would surely spoke soon with brexit talks, trade talks, and various other economic factors. Well, since then volatility has been relatively low and the market has held up, making my VIXY shares worth roughly the same still. I am well aware of contango but would like to put an actual number to it so I can gauge how long I'm willing to hold and wait for a pop. What is the monthly rate of decay, and barring that, how would I figure it out? Thanks ahead of time for any help. [link] [comments]

2 reasons the US economy won't fall into a recession soon. Posted: 22 Oct 2019 06:26 PM PDT There are two great points as to why the U.S. economy won't fall into a recession. The first is that global central banks are easing with the Fed. This could spur a global cyclical recover in 2020 if the rate cuts are effective. A ratcheted up trade war between the US and China would be a mitigating factor for a turnaround, but recognize that the trade war didn't cause the slowdown. Specifically, the percentage of global central banks whose last rate change was a cut shifted from 38% to 82.4% in the past year. The Fed is about to cut rates for the 3rd straight time on October 30th as the futures market sees a 92.5% chance of a cut. The second point is the U.S. economy is less cyclical as we have pointed out when discussing the employment gains in the healthcare sector. As you can see from the chart on the left, 19.1% of final domestic demand came from the cyclical sector in Q2 2019. This percentage never recovered the losses made during the last recession and during the late 1980s. From the mid-1940s to the mid-1980s, the percentage was in between the low 20s and the high 20s. As the chart on the right shows, real final domestic demand growth in Q2 for cyclicals was only 0.2%. The economy would be at a standstill if it wasn't for the non-cyclicals which have a negative correlation with cyclicals. Non-cyclicals had yearly real final domestic demand growth of 2.2% which is near the cycle high. There can still be recessions, but there needs to be a big imbalance to cause one, which we don't see. Significant Insider Trading Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 22 Oct 2019 11:09 AM PDT This is a list of the top 20 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases. All trades that are marked as part of a 10b5 plan are excluded from this report. Largest Insider Buying (Last 7 Days)Largest Insider Selling (Last 7 Days)Count column is number of transactions. Posted: 22 Oct 2019 11:44 AM PDT For the past days I have been studying and teaching myself what there is to know about the stock market since I want to be a full time investor in the future. The one thing i don't find anywhere is wtf am i supposed to look for in a company if i want to invest into them or how long do i keep my money in the company before taking the profit? These websites all say "just make sure you agree with the company". That doesn't help me at all. I'm sure this subreddit has gotten people like me before so if this was answered somewhere else could someone link it please? The help would be appreciated so much. [link] [comments]

Significant Activist Hedge Fund Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 22 Oct 2019 11:13 AM PDT These are the latest Schedule 13D forms filed by activist investors in the last 7 days. Activist investors are investors that make an investment with the intention of influencing management in some way. There is evidence that following activist investors into investments can generate excess returns. Schedule 13G forms, in contrast, are filed by significant investors with no intention of influencing management (such as Index funds). There is always a lot of interest in insider trades, but what a lot of people probably don't realize is that hedge fund activity is probably more predictive of future returns than insider activity. The reason is that hedge funds (a) have large research budgets, and (b) have a choice where to put their money. In contract, insiders have no choice where to put their money, but only when to time their transactions. New FilingsThis table lists new 13D filings in the last week. A new filing does not necessarily indicate a new position, as investors frequently accumulate in advance before reaching the filing threshold. Amended FilingsThis table lists amended filings in the last week, and is useful for monitoring changes in existing investments or when a fund closes a position. I have eliminated all filings with less than a 5% change in ownership. Source: Fintel.io/activists [link] [comments]
Can someone explain to me what is going on with (JILL)? Posted: 22 Oct 2019 10:52 AM PDT I have a little background in finance from college, but I'm struggling to understand how a company can loose half its goodwill in a single quarter (~100 million of 200) and can be trading at that P/E (~4) when sales didn't decline too massively yoy. There hasn't been almost any coverage of the stock for a year. Does anyone know what happened? Seems odd. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Oct 2019 10:50 AM PDT How do you plan your trades? Let's start with the start of the week on Monday. You have 3 stocks and you go through them one by one. You see that Stock A has a good potential and there's an entry point on Tuesday. For Stock B and C, it seems that they could only see movement after economic data on Thursday. How do you set your reminders/watchlists or write your notes so that you can follow through with the above trading plan (i.e. to go long on Stock A on Tuesday and to check on Stock B and C on Thursday)? What do you know about stocks? Posted: 22 Oct 2019 07:46 AM PDT I just turned 18 and I want to get into stocks/investments but I have no idea where to start or much about the topic. Is there anyone who can take me under there wing? [link] [comments]

What the hell are Unit Rights (UR) Shares? Posted: 22 Oct 2019 04:01 AM PDT Hello all, Please forgive me for being a new trader! This year I began trading in relatively small amounts of stock, and so far it is going ok-ish. One particular company I bought into (SIMRIS ALG AB ser. B) on the OMX dropped significantly since I bought it and on 18/10/2019 another set of SIMRIS shares called SIMRIS ALG UR B appeared in my portfolio. They are a fraction of the value of my original 75 shares, and I appear to have been given another 75 (almost worthless) shares. What are my options here? From the internet I gather that a rights issue has taken place and 'trading' can take place until 31/10/19 in these new shares. However, I cannot buy or sell them through my usual DEGIRO account, it just won't let me do it. I read here that I have the following options:
Basically, I want to keep the new 75 shares, and sell them later when they gain value. If I just let them sit there, will they still be mine or as the bullets above suggest, will they disappear on 31/10? Thanks in advance for your advice! [link] [comments] |
