Please help before insurance kills my friend!!

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 02:33 PM PDT

My friend is a retired fire fighter with pancreatic cancer. He has been receiving treatment at Mayo Clinic that Mayo had checked and it was covered. Two days before surgery to remove his tumor, Mayo called and said they'd made a mistake entering his insurance information. Based on the corrected information, his insurance said Mayo is out of network and surgery there would not be covered. Insurance insisted that he go to Baylor in Houston, Texas for surgery. Baylor won't do the surgery because of artery involvement. The last word from the insurance company is that they "will have to review the case and see where things need to go from here." He doesn't have time for that!! Mayo has already said that he will not survive more delays! They were ready to do the surgery before the insurance company sent my friend on a nationwide wild goose chase!!

Is there anything that can be done to force the insurance company to approve the surgery at Mayo? Mayo Clinic is still willing to do the surgery, but they want a $150,000 downpayment beforehand!!! What can be done??

Car repaired after getting t-boned - Unhappy with the work - Feedback Appreciated

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 08:08 PM PDT

I was t-boned on the passenger side in my 2015 Honda Fit EX. It was a hit and run so this is being covered by my own insurance. I picked up my car the other day and I'm not really thrilled with the work. I'm not in collision repair so I don't really know what I'm talking about. However, I'm pretty sure the work should look a little better? Feedback would be appreciated. Taking my car back to the shop tomorrow afternoon. Crossposting this so if you see this elsewhere, hi.

    Repair total is at $9,460

    Aperture & Rocker Panel Repair - https://imgur.com/a/8sz7Fdb

*The repair is very noticeable as this bar is not on my drivers side and I'm concerned that the pieces are not lined up any longer*

Other Issues and Damage - https://imgur.com/a/pEu9Xhq

ExpressAlight Total Alignment Printout - https://imgur.com/a/17w6o2V

*There are some numbers in red, I'm not sure what all this printout means*

    Issues I've noticed...

    1. The front of my car shakes when accelerating and traveling over 60mph
    2. Side mirror casing appears to be damaged, it is cracked and jagged where my drivers side is not
    3. Passenger side rocker panel does not line up flush as it should
    4. Large scratch on the inside of my passenger front quarter glass panel as well as damage to the trim around that window
    5. Seal for the quarter glass panel is popping out at the top
    6. There is chipped and missing paint all around the edges of the new passenger door
    7. The passenger front quarter panel is not fitted correctly and is popping up
    8. The windshield guard/trim is very loose on the passenger side. I think this is creating a ton of extra wind noise that I didn't have prior.
    9. Gaps between the door and the front quarter panel are significantly different than the drivers side. Where the quarter panel is coming off the gap is much larger and between the door and the quarter panel is very small.
    10. My new passenger door handle doesn't sound like the rest, there is a weird click/snap when opening

    Proof of insurance.

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 06:19 AM PDT

I keep getting letters from the DMV stating to go online to provide proof of insurance. When I try to do so, it shows that my auto insurer has already done so. Yet, I continue receiving letters with the same request, stating that I will be fined if I don't have insurance. Asking the DMV is useless, as they know absolutely nothing (isn't that ironic). Do any of you have advice?

I didn't inform my insurance provider about an incident that occurred a year ago! Am I at risk of invalidating my current insurance?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 01:56 AM PDT

I had a small crash about 13 months ago which resulted in quite a lot of damage to my car. I didn't realise you had to always inform insurance providers of anything that happens to you and so I didn't claim and repaired myself with a garage as I am a young driver therefore not wanting to cause a surge in my next premium!

I've just renewed with the insurance provider about 3 days ago but have realised after reading articles online that I should have informed them? The crash was my fault alone and there was no other vehicles involved. I did call the police to the situation so there will be a log of it but I can't see how the insurance provider will know about that? The vehicle is almost fully repaired now... if I am to make a claim in the future, is there anyway they will find out about the crash therefore invalidating my insurance? Any tips of advice would be greatly appreciated! Kind Regards

Car insurance increase due to new teen driver.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 05:31 PM PDT

    Hey all,

I recently passed my (New Jersey) driver's test and got my provisional license. Now, though, my stepmother's insurance company wants to increase her payments due to a new teen driver in the household.

This would make sense to me; however, I do not drive either of the cars under that policy. My stepmother tells me that they will still not let her remove me from the insurance, and thus she will be charged anyway.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this? Thank you in advance for the advice.

Got a pizza delivery job with no insurance

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:59 AM PDT

just got a job at Pizza Hut and on my first day they asked if I had insurance I told them I would have it the next day. My car is not insured so I have found a way to fake it. I am wondering if my fake insurance will work or if they have a way of checking it

Switch homeowner insurance with open claim

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 11:58 PM PDT

TLDR: want to switch home insurance provider due to the difficulty working with them on an on-going claim

    Long version:

I filed a theft claim earlier this year. The theft is genuine however the insurance company does not believe it. I have a lot of difficulties working with the insurance company and I really want to get out of that. Financially, I do not really care that much about the claim.

However, when I tried to switch all of my insurance (home/auto/life) to a new insurer, a broker I contacted told me that, due to the open claim, no underwriter will write a new insurance for me .

I am concerned now as my mortgage requires some insurance for sure. If no insurer is willing to provide that, what is the consequences? Do I have any other options?

How many times am I allowed to change home insurance?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 08:46 PM PDT

I just recently changed my home insurance about a month ago for the first time, saving me about $200. However I found another company recommended by a friend which would save me $300 switching to Company C. Wondering how many times I'm allowed to switch in a year, or maybe I should just wait this year out. Thanks!

(Texas) Auto insurance rate is kicking my butt.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 04:42 PM PDT

This may be a stupid question so please forgive me. If you call your insurance to see if you're eligible for a lower rate, is there anyway that they can end up raising it instead if they find cause to? My last insurance provider had me removed from my dad's policy because of too many claims. Now I'm on a policy by myself and paying close to $470. It's been a year since I filed any claim and a few years since the others.

(California) Lapsed Insurance Fender Bender--Can I pay directly?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 02:21 PM PDT

I got in a minor fender bender last week with another driver. I was at fault, there was minimal damage to my car and some minor damage to their bumper. We did not file a police report.

They have reported the claim to their insurance company. I gave a report to their insurance company that I was at fault, and that I would be making a claim to my insurance company so they may take care of the liability. When I went to make the claim, I learned that my insurance had lapsed in April.

I take responsibility for the accident, and want to make it right, but since he has already reported a claim and received an estimate from his insurance company, they are reaching out to me to provide my insurance information.

    Here are my questions:

Will I be able to pay the insurance company directly? Or should I be speaking to the other driver and asking if I may pay them without insurance?

Will I be reported to the DMV in California? I have rectified my insurance situation, and we didn't file a police report.

Adding another vehicle, a teen driver and full coverage on 15y.o. cars

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 08:08 PM PDT

First off, I need some wisdom to not carry full coverage on 15 y.o. cars. My wife will have it no other way, and I say that even in the most minor accident, the car will be totalled, and minus 500 deductible, the payout is extremely small like a grand or $1500. Years ago I wrecked I car and we used the insurance money to help buy a new one. In a not at fault accident carrying only liability, will they still total an old vehicle and cut us a check? One truck is 2007, the other truck is 2004 with a salvaged title (totalled value is halved, I believe), and we just added a 2004 Honda Accord. In a wreck, we would need a replacement vehicle immediately and bank on getting an insurance check. (As I write this I see with our third vehicle we could juggle 2 vehicles for a month or so.)

As one would imagine, adding the extra car and the teen doubled our premiums through USAA. We initially had her as a primary, but took her off and just added her to our policy as a "Permissable Driver". Our 6 month premiums lowered $30. Still pretty much double than before with 2 fully covered old trucks and 2 financially savy (/s) adults.

Is this rate increase on par? We are in sticker shock, and were wondering what we can do to have coverage but not get absolutely rolled. Yes, only carry liability, but I need a convincing argument from you for Mrs. Whittler. Higher deductible to lower premiums?

We are in Arizona, so could I register/insure one truck as a Farm Vehicle, and exclude the teen from that portion of the policy? Currently, all vehicles are listed as Pleasure/Work. We really like USAA and are willing to shop locally, so how do we insure 3 vehicles and still have the kid covered?

Resident Relative + Under-insured Motorist Bodily Injury - Is there any risk to me?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 08:03 PM PDT

My brother was hit by a car back in June. No criminal action was taken on the driver; it was dark, there was the possibility that it was entirely accidental, etc.

Brother was employed part time, did not have health insurance. He DID live with me. I have three vehicles (he did not drive any of them) and I have Underinsured Motorist Protection and it is stacked. His bills are mounting, the state is paying, a lawyer (his I think) contacted me today to ask about the possibility of getting my insurance to pay out via Resident Relative for him.

If they pay out, does that affect my premiums? It feels callous to say, but I have a family, work has been screwing me over, etc, so money matters are foremost in my mind these days.

If they do some kind of investigation (because this is several hundred thousand $$ we are talking about here) and they find him at fault, is THAT going to affect me or my insurance? I want to help him out, but I cannot afford to wreck my own finances in the process, as my kids are my priority.

Can employer refuse to sign me up for insurance?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 06:03 PM PDT

So I turn 27 next month. Last year, when I turned 26 and would have had to legally get off my parent's insurance, it turns out I actually didn't have to because my parent's insurance is actually that great and extended it to 27yo.

Because of that, I refused sign up for my employers insurance for another year. Well, my time is up next month and I'll have to get on my employer's ins. However, their open enrollment is December 1st, a couple weeks after my bday.

Can they refuse me insurance until that open enrollment date? I'm asking this because last year when I would've had to enroll, the ins lady said, "We'll just wait to get you on our insurance, because [employer] will have to pay extra if we sign you up before Dec 1st." That means I would have been illegally without insurance for a little over two weeks....

    Thanks!

6 month old COBRA medical claim driving me crazy - out $4k cash - help!!!

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 09:17 AM PDT

In April I left my job to start as an independent contractor. I took some advice from some people and held off getting COBRA until I needed it. Then, on May 15th, my wife's neurologist found a tumor in her brain and needed to get an special MRI.

Called COBRA provider - they said it would take a month to get in the system if I paid that day. So I signed up that day ($1,684 a month). Got on a phone call with COBRA provider and Cigna - they said go and get the procedure done and pay cash...we did.

Negotiated with Methodist that day to be immediate cash payment of $4,042. Submitted claim to be paid back a month later.

Here is where it get's dicey. Had a follow up with Methodist and insurance had started. Handed over insurance that they tagged to our account. They are now telling Cigna that we had insurance and want to charge $14k for the procedure instead of the cash price we negotiated. Cigna won't give us our money until the dispute with Methodist is resolved.

Give one more complication - Cigna is declining payment to Methodist because they didn't get clearance for the procedure before it was done. These two massive corporations are slogging it out without a care in the world - to them it's a small amount of money but neither one will budge and I can't get my money back (which we could use in the current situation).

Each week - I'm told next week we'll call you because it will be resolved. Each week I have to figure out how to chase people down because I can't get ahold of the person who is supposed to be fixing this for me (Cigna's call centers don't allow you to call a specific person). They tell me about the next step in the process and how it will be another week, or another month, or whatever.

What can I do??? Going nuts spending an hour or two on the phone each week (of course it takes that long to get to the right people and they hear the excuses). I don't care about the hospital (although my church used to be methodist - now I'm thinking of going catholic). Cigna has rejected the claim twice (both times incorrectly congratulating me that I wouldn't have to pay the hospital anything). Now I don't have a rejected claim - but I think I'll be in limbo until this time next year.

    Help!!!

Other party not responding after car accident

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 05:49 PM PDT

Several weeks ago, I was cruising down the highway when a driver came down the on-ramp and side swiped me. They didn't look before merging and nearly ran me off the road. It was terrifying, but the damage was minor to both of our vehicles and nobody was hurt.

I got the person's driver's license and insurance card, but did not file a police report as I only had a small scrape in my paint from where their mirror hit me.

The father of the driver followed up quickly. He called me that night and stated that he wanted to handle this without the insurance company. I said that I was amenable to this solution and said that I would get estimates for the repairs.

After sending the estimates, he said that he would settle this as quickly as possible and stated that he needed a couple days so that he could speak to his daughter. Everything seemed to be going fine.

I waited the couple days and tried to follow up with him, but got no reply. It has now been two weeks without contact. I tried to call, but as soon as he heard who it was, he hung up and now all calls go directly to voice mail (not sure if he has no reception or if he has blocked my number). I sent a final text today asking him to get back to me and have not heard back.

I called my insurance company and filed a claim, but have a few questions:

    A) Should I be contacting my insurance company? Will my rates be raised or will I have to pay a deductible if I am having them deal with the other driver's insurance?

    B) How should I proceed?

What to do about medical expenses billed to insurance for procedures not performed.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 01:40 PM PDT

I recently had a physical which is covered by my insurance. The doctor should know what is and isn't covered under my plan. For example, I had an EKG that I didn't know was part of the physical because I didn't have one last year with my physical. I was told it's part of what it covered so they DO know. However, when I got my clinical report back, it has a list of things that simply wasn't done. I think I would know a bone density study or a colonoscopy screening and a diabetic foot screening (not a diabetic). This is only my second visit with this group. I began reading reviews and this seems to be one of the many issues others are having with this same group.

Last year, I was balance billed which I didn't understand because a physical is covered under insurance. I could get no answers so I had to pay it. Now, I'm concerned I might even get a larger bill for things I didn't even have done.

If I call my insurance company and let them know what is going on, they may end up not paying any of it until they investigate or something.

What's the best course of action to take? If I call the doctor's office, I will end up having to leave a message and no one will ever get back. This has been an issue with others as well. That's another long story.

I honestly think this place is scamming people and their insurance.

If there is some other sub that may be more appropriate for this, please advise. Thanks.

Should I file a claim? or pay out of pocket?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 02:56 PM PDT

    Hi,

A few weeks ago I was involved in a minor fender bender as the at fault party. I called my insurance the next day and informed them. The other driver called as well to submit a claim.

The estimate I received from my insurance company to repair my bumper was just under $1k. My deductible is $500.

My question is, would it make sense to pay my repairs out of pocket? Keep in mind my insurance already knows about the incident and is processing the claim for the other party.

I've never had an accident or even a ticket, and I'm trying to keep the premium increase to a minimum.

    Thank you

Claim loss of use in NJ against at fault driver/insurance

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 12:52 PM PDT

My legally parked car was hit by a drunk driver who was arrested. I'm going through the process of repairing my car with my own company and paying the deductible which I'll get back.

I do not have a rental from my own insurance because I dropped that option few months ago.

Can i go after his insurance and ask them for loss of use since I can't use my car and how does it work ? Just call them up?

I believe in NJ loss of use can be claimed whether you've rented a vehicle or not.

    Insurance won't provide report

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 12:24 PM PDT

I recently hit a pothole and did about 3700 dollars worth of damage to my vehicle, the insurance company denied part of the claim saying that the bushings were previously leaking and therefore under failure conditions and were not covered.

I then asked for a copy of their claim report with the pictures they took of the bushings and the other damages. They have refused. Is this normal for an insurance company to refuse to share their claims report and photos? How is that legal when they are photos of my car? Does anyone have any insight into this?

I need some help with recommended flood insurance coverage

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 12:18 PM PDT

I own a home in flood zone AE and want to lower my building coverage to reduce the premium but still make sure I'm protected. My mortgage lender is good with the new value ($150k) since it exceeds the outstanding principal on the loan. I saw a comment on a few sites about Actual Cash Value vs Replacement Cost that gave me pause, though. It looks like I need to maintain building coverage of 80% of the building replacement cost to have Replacement Cost coverage. Is this correct? I'm having the insurance agency create a replacement cost estimate now to see where it comes out, but I assume 80% is close to $150k.

I want to be fully covered aside from my deductible. Am I missing anything else?

Note: I've never flooded, but if I did have a claim I would assume the total damages to be less than $150k (1200 sq ft single story ranch on slab).

    Advice on Slashed Car Tires

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 12:02 PM PDT

    Hi reddit,

I'm creating a throwaway account to answer a question that I truly don't know what to do. Yesterday, I went to pick up my boyfriend. When I got to his townhouse, as we were pulling away, we noticed that 2 of his mother's car tires had been slashed. His townhouse does not have driveways, so it was on the street lining the houses with all the other neighborhood cars. No other car was vandalized.

His mother is unsure of how to deal with the situation, and does not want to contact an insurance company if it will increase her deductible. My boyfriend and I filed a police report as soon as we saw it, but his mother, again, is very hesitant because she does not have the money to pay for a higher deductible. I'm trying to push her to call so that she does not take on the cost herself.

Anyone know the best course of action? I've researched and seen that it just depends on your insurance whether or not the tires would be covered. We have the police case number and everything, and are just trying to figure this whole thing out. I'm nervous for him and his family and help on the insurance aspect would be much appreciated.

Neighbor camper water damage in Pennsylvania

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 08:00 AM PDT

We went to a fair campground event. We had all moved in the campers a week prior. When we moved in, we hooked our water up to the tap, and left. Tap turned off.

Now we all move in for the first day of the fair. Look at our water line and it is now hooked up to a splitter. Each split has it's own valve turn-off. Our neighbors must have put this splitter on. So we get to the first day of the fair and turn on the water.

An hour later we see water pouring out of the neighbor's camper. They had a faulty toilet that just ran and overflowed. The camper is totaled.

We did not put the splitter in.

They did not have their side of the splitter turned off. They had it in the "on" position.

Now they have a claim against our insurance. Advice?
