    Airbnb IPO in 2020, thoughts?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 01:50 AM PDT

Any thoughts on Airbnb IPO supposedly coming in 2020. The company showed a loss in earnings this year, but some are saying that it doesn't really reflect the company due to the company's increase in marketing.

    https://observer.com/2019/10/airbnb-2019-q1-losses-2020-ipo-status/

Anyone think this is a good IPO to consider? I personally like the company and think they have a good business model. What are your thoughts?

Boeing replaces head of commercial airplane unit amid 737 Max crisis

    Posted: 22 Oct 2019 07:15 PM PDT

Boeing has replaced the head of its commercial airplane unit, the company said Tuesday, amid a scramble to convince regulators to allow its 737 Max plane back in service after two fatal crashes that killed a total of 346 people.

Kevin McAllister is the most senior executive to leave in the wake of the catastrophe. The commercial airplane division has been immersed in a crisis for nearly a year following the first of two 737 Max crashes. A second 737 Max went down less than five months later, prompting a worldwide grounding of Boeing's best-selling aircraft.

McAllister will be replaced by Stan Deal, a three-decade Boeing employee who most recently led its global services business, Boeing said.

The leadership change comes less than two weeks after Boeing's board stripped CEO Dennis Muilenburg of his chairman role, saying the move would allow him to better focus on getting the Max planes back to service.

After the second crash, Boeing halted deliveries and slashed production of the planes. The grounding has rippled through Boeing's supply chain and to airline customers who have been forced to cancel thousands of flights and forgo hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.

How does your dividend/yield strategy differ in good times vs. bad?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 07:19 AM PDT

Typically dividend growth companies are good holdings during bear markets/recessions, or in a similar vein higher bond allocation, but I want to hear how others might tweak this strategy to fit their portfolios. Do you sacrifice yield to buy into lower but more sustainable dividends? Do you buy ETFs of high-dividend sectors (utilities) instead of individual companies?

Cities see signs of recession on the horizon

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 07:15 AM PDT

    https://www.axios.com/exclusive-cities-recession-signs-f06c50b3-435d-42cb-b28d-7ecf6d2f3ea8.html

"Since fiscal reporting happens on a yearly basis, there's often a lag of about 18-24 months for economic changes (particularly property taxes) to show up on city ledgers. That means that the downward trends cities are now seeing likely reflect a broader economic slowdown that's already started."

While obviously this is focused on larger cities, it's still concerning to see all three primary sources of tax revenues slip. This holds especially true in Midwestern cities. I'd suggest reading the article itself, Axios does a good job of being short, sweet, and to the point.

Is it wise to invest in Microsoft today before they announce their quarterly earnings?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 04:05 AM PDT

Going by some information we got, such as them Microsoft Teams surpassing Slack and Azure still doing really well. Is it a wise decision to invest before quarterly earnings in general be it for MSFT or any other company?

Bad news is still good news: "Caterpillar (CAT), a bellwether for the global economy, reported third-quarter earnings early Wednesday that badly missed Wall Street's modest expectations. The Dow Jones stock initially tumbled before the open, but CAT stock managed to dig itself out of the hole."

Different Accounts for Stocks and Mutual Funds?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 06:44 AM PDT

I have one single brokerage account with stocks & mutual funds and am finding it confusing because of the way they trade during the day - stocks throughout the day, and the funds settling at the end of the day. I'm wondering if other investors have the same problem or if they separate the two into different accounts.

Do Reverse Stock Split Capital Losses offset Taxable Capital Gains?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 06:00 AM PDT

Hey guys! Long time lurker, first time posting. I've searched around everywhere and I believe my question would best be asked here:

My numbers might be a little incorrect regarding my stock prices and etc. but the meat of the question is accurate.

    My question is this:

If I bought a bad stock that was about to perform a reverse split, lets say 1 and 10 or the like. So I bought/held 1000 shares of a stock for .10 cents for a total of 100 dollars but then when the reverse split happened of course now I only have 100 shares at 1.00 a piece. I have 100 dollar value still of course.

But then the stock dropped to .10 cents again, now I have 100 shares at .10 worth a total of 10 dollars.

Does this mean my Capital Loss is 90 dollars? And if so, can I still deduct my Capital Losses from my Capital Gains of 290 on another stock? And therefore I only pay taxes on a Capital Gain of 200. Is this correct? Or do Reverse Split Capital Losses perform differently in the eyes of the IRS?

TL,DR: "I know Capital Loss off sets Capital Gains, but does a Reverse Split Loss count as a "real" capital loss in the eyes of the IRS? If so I don't mind if I lost the 90 dollars if it makes my taxable Capital Gain only 200 rather than 290."
