    Accounting What's my perfect crime?

    Accounting What's my perfect crime?

    What's my perfect crime?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 07:44 AM PDT

What is my perfect crime? I break into PwC at midnight. Do I go for the firm-branded golf polos? No. I go for the Flavia coffee machine. It's priceless. As I'm unplugging it, a woman catches me. She tells me to stop. It's her father's firm. She's Tiffany. I say no. We make love all night. In the morning the office security comes and I escape in one of their uniforms. I tell her to meet me in Mexico but I go to Canada. I don't trust her. Besides, I love the cold. Thirty years later I get a postcard. I have a son. And he's the US Senior Partner. This is where the story gets interesting: I tell Tiffany to meet me in Paris by the Trocadero. She's been waiting for me all these years; she's never taken an industry job. I don't care. I don't show up. I go to Berlin. That's where I stashed the Flavia machine.

    Graduating in December

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 09:41 PM PDT

Hello all! I'm graduating in December with a 3.2 ish GPA and only 5 months of working experience, which was over a year ago. Reason for low GPA and no work experience is lots of traveling (instability due to life problems, not leisure), and having 2 kids during college.

Can I get a decent job or internship in public accounting from here on out?

If not, will working as a tax preparer at Jackson Hewitt or the like help me in terms of experience before applying to internships or jobs as an accountant?

I will be graduating with more than 150 credits and hope to become a CPA someday. I don't want to go for my masters. I want a break from school for the time being.

Thank you for taking the time to help me.

Got an internship offer from a big 4. Wanna thank you guys.

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 09:11 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

I'm a fat, lurking leech on the sub who rarely posts while sober.

A few months ago I was feeling pretty down on myself and I ended up spilling my emotions to you guys and you all gave me some pretty long, detailed responses. I just wanna thank you all for sharing your experiences.

I credit my accomplishment to this sub and the recruiting guide. Some of those questions on there were spot on.

Also, any latinos out there? How do you explain accounting to spanish speakers? it literally translates to "counting" lol

    Accounting homework frustration

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 04:49 PM PDT

So this is a rant because I'm doing accounting homework on a Friday night and this is the worst. My homework is online and we're doing bond discount amortization tables. Well the stupid online program likes to make me round only occasionally and then sometimes it's always making me round. This causes me to sometimes be a number or two off if I rounded wrong a few calculations ago. I'm just very frustrated and needed to say this!!!!

Does bookkeeping/simpler accounting work count as one year of general experience for CPA licensure in California?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 05:24 PM PDT

I was told by one firm in the industry that they totally had people do this before - go from bookkeeper to business manager/account manager that got their CPAs. Another firm tells me that they will not sign for it bc bookkeeping does not count and anyone telling me otherwise is lying.

I just want to get my CPA - don't even know if I'll ever go to public accounting but I just want options for the future.

Revenue Accounting in the SF Bay Area -- is it all this crazy?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 10:54 PM PDT

Anyone here work in Revenue in the SF Bay Area for a tech company? Is any team not working crazy hours?

I'm ex-b4 working as a Revenue Senior at a public tech firm and I feel like I've pretty much worked a medium to bad b4 busy season spread through the year. During monthly close we do dinners frequently and quarter ends are 1-2 weeks of daily 10pm's with a Saturday included at minimum. The managers and above work even more than that since they're stuck in meetings all day and work at night.

I heard from others that revenue at most other companies here is pretty rough but I'm just curious to see what you guys have experienced. Only upsides at my place so far are the people on the team and $.

    Reneging an externship offer?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 10:42 PM PDT

I have accepted a mid-size SLP offer which will be 2-3 days during May.

For the upcoming spring 2020 recruitment, Big4 will open up their SLP applications, so I don't know their dates as of now.

Say that if I even land a summer SLP at B4, and it turns out that the SLP is the same exact date as the midsize one. Would I get blacklisted from the midsize if I reneged on their offer? They're going to be reserving spots, paying for our expenses, etc., so I think it's a bit unethical if I just renege.

I know this is just assuming the worse but what are your thoughts?
