I bought Slack at $34.41, shares are now $21.60 and I'm down 37%

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 07:28 AM PDT

I'm not trying to trade but invest for the long term. I know Microsoft teams is gaining traction. My company continues to use Slack even though we have Microsoft Teams. What do you think of Slack? Should I buy more shares to average down the cost or just continue to hold due to the risk of Microsoft?

Just curious how many individual stocks are owned by folks reading this?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 11:20 AM PDT

Over the past several decades; I've owned anywhere from 20 to 100 stocks at any one time. Today's count is 62 (does include various option contracts on individual companies). I own stocks in many diverse sectors all over the world and spend many hours doing deep dive TA on each company. I read every quarterly result the second it's published, and I try to be on every call.

I see a lot of posts here to keep it simple and just buy ETF's. I agree ETF's could be a good idea for someone new to investing as way to get started. However, I find there's more bang for the buck in owning individual companies that you have researched.

    Agree or disagree?

    2020 CA Mandatory Solar Power

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 11:50 AM PDT

All new homes built in California will be mandated to include solar power. This makes the case for Enphase Energy (ENPH). Stock is down, perfect opportunity to buy right now.

CA passed a bill earlier this year that I barely heard about which requires all new homes built in 2020 and moving forward to require solar panels on them. This will boost the overall solar market.

GET IN NOW while it's cheap!!

    Thoughts?

    Military investing

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 03:01 PM PDT

My bank told me to talk to the military when investing because I'll probably get some discount. No idea how to talk to "the military" about investing. I am in the Army, any idea what this means or who to talk to?

Why did Chegg fall so hard?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 08:38 AM PDT

Chegg fell nearly 25% in the last month for seemingly no reason at all. Why is the stock so low when the company is doing so well?

Would I be better off just putting my money in $SPY and $NDAQ long term?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 08:37 AM PDT

So I'm just treating my investments like a retirement fund. I'm not interested in chasing profits day in and out, I'm just trying to find companies I believe in and doing research and holding for ~20 years. It's just a place to put my money somewhere it will grow and I can't touch it until later. With this in mind would I be better off just putting it into $SPY and $NDAQ and forgetting it til it's time to cash in or I die?

Just for fun here's my current portfolio:

    NDAQ - 9.5%
    MSFT - 12.8%
    AMD - 13.5%
    ATVI - 15%
    ENPH - 16%
    ACB - 8%
    CGC - 11%
    APHA - 4%
    SBUX - 9%

It's worth mentioning that these are companies I believe in (except Blizzard) and this is not a knee jerk reaction to the drop yesterday, just something I've been thinking about and would like some insight on from some more experienced investors. Thanks in advance!

What is the influence of REPO market on other trading activities?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 10:51 AM PDT

REPO It's a short term loan market. A corporation, Wall street or bank needs money very short term i.e. a few days. It's a market that targets people with a lot of assets but little liquidity in those assets. So maybe a wall street broker or a banker who can use their assets as collatoral. The lender faces very little risk because there's collatoral in assets when something goes wrong. It's important because this is how a lot of daily trading operations are funded by various players within the financial markets. A shortage of cash would mean for these people that they can't execute their daily trading activities properly.

    Commerical Real Estate/Reits

I'm 22 years old and have yet to dip my toes into the real estate sector, seeing solid track record, I wish to change that. I know low yields and dividend history are crucial when finding your best fit. What else should I be looking at when determining what REIT is right for me.

    MJ hitting 52-week low

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 06:57 AM PDT

That's a rough one. Unfortunately I bought most of my shares in the upswing earlier this year.

I know the weed market is going to be volatile, knew it when I bought them. I was looking at this one as a long-term investment but I'm starting to get nervous.

They've been paying decent dividends, and their recent round was about 4% yield.

Just wanting to hear other opinions on this stock. Is it worth sticking out or should I cut my loses?

Pareteum (TEUM) is getting hammered lately. I've seen a few people talk it up as having potential.

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 06:54 AM PDT

They recently announced a stock dilution, which sent shares plummeting. Do people think it's priced in now? The company is growing quickly (over 400% YOY), but cloud communications is a pretty crowded market, and I've never yet met or seen anyone who actually is a customer of theirs. I'm tempted to buy a small position on this company and hold it for three years. Seems like it could end up an empty bag or a 200% gain.

$IGPK Big news out this morning. Expanding into California with purchase of new growing farm and 4 new Cannabis licences in California.

Land comes with 4 licences in California! This is big.

Coconut Creek, FL -- September 25, 2019 -- InvestorsHub NewsWire -- Integrated Cannabis Solutions, Inc., (OTCPINK: IGPK) has executed a Purchase Agreement to purchase 9.5-acres in California. This purchase will allow Integrated to make a serious push into the largest legal Cannabis market in the world.
The Company has retained special counsel to assist with the Closing documents for this transaction. The land is being purchased for a combination of cash and stock, the property is zoned for M-1, M-5 and M-2 with the Final Closing subject to the issuance of the Conditional Use Permit ("CUP"). IGPK does not see any issue with obtaining the CUP, since the land is already zoned for Cannabis and management currently holds Cannabis licenses within the State of California already.

Help with Altaba (AABA) and mommy's savings

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 05:00 AM PDT

    Hi everyone!

It turns out that my mother had about 10K invested in Altaba. She bought the stocks due to a bank advice about 5 or 6 years ago at a price of $40 (aprox.). She doesn't know anything about stocks or economy (yes, why do you buy shares from a company that you don`t even know without advice or something...?) I guess it's a good question).

The thing is that ... these days things have happened with Altaba. The shares have plummeted from $70 to $20.

    Here is the Story:

Altaba Announced a Pre-Dissolution Liquidating Distribution of $51.50 Per Share. (September 6)

Altaba Set the Date for Filing the Certificate of Dissolution. (September 23)

I also have no idea of investments, stocks and others. I'm just a redditor looking for financial advice.

What happens now? Will she lost the half of her savings? Should she sell the shares? Will she collect dividends or something? She has not made any movement, we discovered all this a few hours ago. Thanks for the help!

    What is insider trading?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2019 10:38 PM PDT

Is it insider trading to ask someone who works for a publicly traded company how business is going at the company or whether there are recent changes in personnel or product lines (e.g. discontinuation of a product line, laying off an entire division)? Does it matter how high up the person is (e.g. a developer at Apple versus Tim Cook himself)? Does it matter whether you were already in the stock before you inquired about it?
