Posted: 01 Sep 2019 09:33 AM PDT Hello everyone. I (23f) recently learned that my mom (60f) has cancer. This will be her 3rd go of it. My family is preparing for the worst. I currently live with her and I rely on her financially. Thanks to her I only have my student loan bills and car payment. Even though she took out the Parent PLUS loan for me I have been paying it. It's about $60k. If case the worst happens and she passes, Will the loan transfer over to me? I can't remember if I co-signed on it or if my name is attached. It does not show up on my credit report. Would it loan be discharged? Would it be paid off with her assets like retirement and bank accounts? [link] [comments] |
Grad Plus Loan question, please help Posted: 01 Sep 2019 11:34 PM PDT Ok, I have an account that was charged - off and owed what said on the credit report an amount of 1740. I called and they told me interest was 2240. I got into grad grad school and need to apply for the grad plus. I since have settled a payment with the company and payed 1500 as of last week. I had a letter sent to me that said was paid in full and settled, and no longer own on the account. I check my credit report off of Experian today and it shows that I owe 240$. Odd. I'm sure that will be settled I'll have to call. If this is settled I can be eligible for the grad plus loan correct? [link] [comments] |
How do I know when I should refinance? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 09:42 AM PDT I have about 130 k to repay. I graduated a year ago from undergrad. I found a job about 2 months after graduation in my field. I make decent money and have been able to keep up with my loans since I started repayment last December. Recently I started getting emails/mail regarding refinancing. being curious I looked into one of the pre-approved offers I received. It was rejected for a couple of vague reasons but one was "Length of time accounts have been established". This got me curious as to what is a reasonable amount of time to be looking into this. Serious question about refinancing under my grandmas name Posted: 01 Sep 2019 08:15 PM PDT So my grandma co-signed my loans for me to go to school. It was with sallie Mae and is about 57k and then I have about 58k in federal loans. If I had my gram refinanced and put in all in her name (if she's able to) what would happen when she would pass, would they be gone and I don't have to pay them?? I don't want to sound like an unappreciated grandchild I love my grandma she just turned 90 is in pretty good health and she's my best friend! I don't want her to go anywhere and she said she's sticking around till 100, I hope more!! It's just something I thought about and would eliminate such a huge debt for me. I'm currently not working but looking for jobs (a whole other story) and should be soon making about 36k a year so it would be nice if some loans went away. Is this possible or am I just stuck with them? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Sep 2019 12:53 PM PDT I graduated this spring and am currently applying for PhD programs, which if accepted, would start in the fall of 2020. My grace period ends mid-November. My current seasonal employment is almost finished and while I am applying for jobs my financial situation for the coming months isn't exactly clear. I have around 20k in sub/unsubsidized Direct Stafford loans and am considering applying for the income-based repayment plan. As I understand it, these loans go into deferment while in grad school. (I do have other loans from my states education dept. but I'm still exploring how to go about those). Are there any reasons why I should wait until after my graduate program ends to apply for IBR? Or does it not really matter either way? Also, a bit of a technical question: when FedLoan calculates my discretionary income for IBR is it only my gross adjusted income, or would they also include my parents? I receive some support from them but not extensively/regularly. Anyone with experiences similar to this would be much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 11:17 AM PDT hello i am a current freshman and i am really really worried and stressed about how to pay for my tuition bill. I'm an OOS student and the first semester bill comes up to 14,426.50 after applying all my financial aid and other loans. I got denied all other private loans and such, but was approved for parent plus in my fathers name. We only got approved for 25k for the whole year, therefore we got $11,969 with the loan fee. My family and I are really confused and we didn't sign the MPN yet. We just wanted to know how much the payments for the parent plus loans would be and when they would start? any help will do thanks. I feel such a burden to ask my parents to do this for me, I'm willing to drop out if it's the best case. Thank you for any help. [link] [comments] |
Question about Student Loan Refund Posted: 01 Sep 2019 05:19 PM PDT So I got approved for a private student loan for this school year. I was fortunate enough to have some money to pay for my first semester of freshman year (which I'm currently in), my question is how will it work when the school receives the money from my loan and this semester is already paid? Will they just send me the total amount of my loan? Or automatically pay for next semester. I am planning on using the loan for next semester and rent / living expenses. [link] [comments] |
Does anyone know any good cash loans for students with no credit? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 12:31 PM PDT I just turned 18 a few months ago and I have no credit! I need to get some money for text books but I don't get paid for 2 weeks. (I just started a job on campus.) So I was looking for any quick loans that I can get before school starts. Got married this year. Do I include it on this year's IBR recertification? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 12:25 PM PDT My understanding is that IBR is based on last year's taxes assuming there's no significant changes (like losing your job). When I filed taxes this year I was single. Then I got married. Now I need to recertify. This feels like a dumb question but I'll ask anyway. When it asks if I'm married, do I say yes because I am or no because I wasn't when I did my taxes? Answering yes seems to make the rectification a lot more complicated. I appreciate any insight. [link] [comments] |
