Debris piles in adjacent lot...with a hurricane coming

    Posted: 01 Sep 2019 03:17 PM PDT

I have a recently cleared lot against the back of my house. The developer has left piles of mulch and separate piles of larger tree limbs (3" to 12" diameter" in this lot.

I have seen some articles regarding contacting neighbors regarding standing dead trees as a risk to your property but I have not seen anything regarding cleared debris piles.

Hurricane Dorian is approaching and I would like some advice: a) if I should approach my insurance company b) how I should approach my insurance company c) should I reach out direct to the developer? d) am I SOL and should just deal with it?

    Thank you in advance.

Claim auto flagged and sent to Special Investigations Unit by Lemonade Renters Insurance

    Posted: 01 Sep 2019 11:00 PM PDT

OHIO- A few days ago, my purse and its contents were stolen at a restaurant. The purse was expensive, so I filed a renter's insurance claim with Lemonade and it was auto flagged to the Special Investigations Unit. I provided a police report and the receipts of everything I claimed, but it was auto flagged by their AI system.

I've been with them for about a year and I've never filed a claim before. My credit is good. The only reason I can think of is that I recently changed my policy to add my boyfriend. Can anyone tell me what I can expect and what I should prepare?

Hit by Drunk driver with my family

    Posted: 02 Sep 2019 01:51 AM PDT

Ok. So im sure you hear this all the time on this sub but.

This the first time I've been in this situation.

I was in a car accident (Not at Fault) today. Small Pick up Truck (Ford Ranger) ran red light going about 50-60 MPH. And proceeded to hit the front end of our car. The driver and passagenger were both very wasted, driver was arrested & will most likely received a DUI. My wife and my 9 month old daughter were in the car when the accident occured. A police report was made. I took plenty of photos. And there is even a dash cam video from the car behind us. We went to the hospital today to get all of us 3 checked up since we were all shaken up.

My car insurance company is Geico. I have already filed a claim and they will be sending their "adjuster" to check the car. To me it looks pretty messed up & could possibly get totaled. This car im still in the process of paying off car loan. owe approx ~ 8.5k on it. It is a 2015 Mazda 3.

    1. What are my options? I know they will pay off my car if it gets totaled but what about what ive paid off so far? (Sorry if a sound Naive, but I am Naive) The car value us around 13k-14k according to KBB. I don't think i want to go the route of fixing it if that is the case.

    2. Do i file a claim with the other insurance? Baby seat, hospital bills?

Can I rent a car when I'm not the policy holder?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2019 12:12 AM PDT

I'm living in Florida and having my car under my family's auto insurance (I'm not the policy holder). I plan to travel to CA next year by myself and am researching about car rental. I understand that I need to check with my auto insurance if they cover rental car and I have read about paperworks that need to be shown when renting a car, including proof of insurance. I have proof of insurance for my car but the name on it is the policy holder's. I can't seem to find any topic or discussion if someone is eligible to rent a car if they are not the policy holder.

I tried to request a quote from the same auto insurance company (Geico) in order to have my name as a policy holder, but their website quoted me triple the price that I'm paying for right now. I also thought of non-owner liability policy but am not sure if it's the right thing to look for.

Thank you in advance for any insights!

P/S: My current policy from Geico is covering: Bodily Injury Liability, Property Damage Liability, PIP, Comprehensive, Collision, Rental Reimbursement and Emergency Road Service

Got in an accident immediately after purchasing insurance, could seriously use some advice

    Posted: 01 Sep 2019 07:22 AM PDT

I just purchased comprehensive auto insurance online for a relatively new, previously uninsured vehicle. The insurance was purchased at 8:30 pm on August 30th. I got in an accident at around midnight that same evening. Unbelievable, I know, but the information is all time stamped (credit card, emails, etc.). As I began exchange information at the accident I was concerned to realize that the effective date at the bottom of my card was September 1st. I thought the insurance was active upon purchase, though I may have simply made an error or misunderstood when I finalized the purchase. I wouldn't have been driving had I known my insurance wouldn't be active for another 24-30 hrs. The accident was largely mutual cause, it was pouring rain, and we didn't see each other. Cop that showed up hardly did anything so that wasn't helpful. Anyway, what I'm wondering is if there's any chance USAA will be understanding or if they'll stiff arm me, and I'll lose $10,000 on my car, or worse, be sued or have my license suspended or something. I'm active duty, incredibly busy, and don't have a lot of savings or assets.

If I cancel a homeowners insurance claim how badly did that affect my insurability?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2019 12:02 AM PDT

We had a water leak and had and I ended up cleaning it out and drying the wall. I'm now thinking I can affordably complete the repairs myself and everything that water hit is in good condition still.

If I cancel my claim what should I expect as far as insurability, how my provider rates me, and so on?

Am I now at risk of being dropped if I cancel this claim?

From what I can tell reading online the claim is still visible on some sort of report called CLUE

I have pemco at the moment.

Also, I'm a young guy and this is my first house. I think I mistakenly panicked and called without first really understanding the cost to fix the problem. I've never dealt with homeowners insurance before.

Is it illegal if my production company charged an individual a fee for me to provide insurance when I’m not a certified insurance company? More like I’m renting my insurance to them for a fee that I pay for and telling them I’m providing insurance for them

    Posted: 01 Sep 2019 07:51 PM PDT

Wanted to see if this is legal or not. If I create a contract that says basically "Reddit Co" is providing insurance to "Tapwater LLC" for $2500 but I'm not a licensed insurance company, is that a fraudulent contract? Instead I'm giving them the ability to use my company name on rentals for a fee so basically renting out my insurance and charging them for it

Gave wrong time of accident to insurance

    Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:53 AM PDT

I have been in shocked for what happened and when I made the phone calls to the police and insurance, I told them an hour ahead instead of the actual time. For example it happened at around 1:40-2. But I said 2:40-3. . I don't know how to fix this.

Someone hit my car this morning, the accident was not my fault, but I don’t have insurance at the moment. (Nashville TN)

    Posted: 01 Sep 2019 02:26 PM PDT

So I was driving to work this morning and got hit on the side of my car.. the damage is bad. The other driver admitted fault as I was in their blind spot and they came into my lane. They stated the same thing to the cops who came to file a report. I was not at fault.

Only problem is I don't have car insurance at the moment. I was on my dads policy and he recently passed away. It's a long story but it boils down to the fact that i don't have insurance...

What's going to happen? The other driver has full coverage. However, it's important to note that they were from a different state driving a rental car.

Am I screwed or will I get something for the damage? It's an 04 Monte Carlo

Health Reimbursement Account when you have employer ins. + Medicare

    Posted: 01 Sep 2019 11:42 AM PDT

I am eligible for Medicare due to disability, but I do work full-time with an employer who meets the criteria for their insurance to pay as primary.

This primary insurance plan includes a HRA which covers my deductible and out-of-pocket 100%. It is a terribly stupid system imo, but that's beside the point.

I've been told by the HRA plan administrator that I cannot submit my Medicare part B premiums for reimbursement under this HRA. I CAN submit whatever bills or EOBs I might get after-the-fact, but with both this plan and Medicare B, my copay in virtually all cases is $0. As far as I'm concerned, this kinda means I'm paying (OK, the pool is paying) for thousands of dollars worth of a reimbursement plan I can't use -- but at the same time, the EOBs I get from my primary insurance don't say anything about my secondary insurance. As far as they're concerned, whatever happens after they pay their claim isn't relevant.

So, is there any legal reason (Arkansas, if relevant) I could not submit my primary EOBs for reimbursement? Like, if my specialist visit costs $60, and primary pays $40 and says I have a $20 co-insurance, then Med B pays the last $20, couldn't I still just submit the EOB that says I owe $20, or am I going to be breaking the law?

(Note that I realize carrying Med B makes no sense when the HRA basically pays 100% from day one (does not cover prescriptions, though). They weren't very good at explaining what the HRA was and how it operated during the 2018 enrollment period. If the HRA continues into next year, I'll probably withdraw from B.)

Neighbors tree fell into our yard and crushed our fence.

    Posted: 01 Sep 2019 11:25 AM PDT

Now our insurance is saying it was an act of god and we are responsible for the first 1000$ to fix the fence.

Which just so happens to be what it's going to cost to fix it.

The neighbor paid to have the tree removed, but I don't see how our insurance company isn't demanding our neighbors pay for the fence as well.

Are they just being lazy and willfully ignorant since it's under 1k which is our decidable?

    Personal Injury Query

    Posted: 01 Sep 2019 11:10 AM PDT

I was in an automobile accident on May 30th in which I was struck by a car on my left front panel forcing me into the right lane where I struck another vehicle. The car who hit me fled the scene before either the third car or I could get the license plate number of the hit-and-run vehicle. I was covered by uninsured motorist coverage of my auto insurance policy, which covered the $4,500 in repairs to my vehicle.

The day after the accident I woke with a headache and dizziness and was sent by my doctor for a CT scan, which revealed a dissected carotid artery and aneurysm in my neck. I was placed on three months' leave from work and completed the mountain of paperwork required to tap into my company's long term disability coverage, the results of which are still pending. I burned through the remainder of my vacation and sick leave and haven't received a dime from my employer since July 11th even though I am still technically employed. I have also been in touch with a PI attorney and this firm is sorting through the facts in my accident to determine if I have a case.

I had a 3-month MRA this week which shows that I am healing but not fully healed and the neurologist told me that I could return to work with activity restrictions (no extreme exertion or lifting anything over 20 lbs.). My field is sales where heavy exertion is not necessary.

My medical leave is due to end effective the middle of September and I'm still feeling the effects of my injury. I get waves of fatigue and dizziness and some transient headaches. My PCP told me that I may have a difficult time getting my LTD claim extended beyond the initial three months given that my neurologist wrote in her notes that I may return to work. I'd like to get more time off work and am wondering how I can play my cards to make this happen. My job requires a moderate amount of travel, both by plane and car, and I wonder how I will hold up to the stress of my job with the symptoms that I am still experiencing as a result of my injury.

Any advice that would help me navigate this scenario would be greatly appreciated.

Worth Filing Insurance? Paint Damage from debris from a truck?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2019 02:55 AM PDT

On the interstate, a truck next to me had it's load move just as it passed me and a refrigerator (I think that's what it was) suffered damage and sent a door in my direction. I didn't get bashed by the door, but a shower of safety glass/busted plastic (not sure which) definitely hit me. The driver pulled over and I took some pics and got her name and number. I forgot to ask for her insurance info.

There aren't any major dents or dings, but this is a 1 year old car and when I took a closer look at home I noticed a sprinkle of pock marks in my paint - it's like someone took a pin and started stabbing and scraping my paint. Down to the primer/plastic in some places, other spots you can see the paint "curling" up but the damage isn't through to the primer/plastic. Concentrated on the driver's side but it's spread over 3 panels. There is also some cosmetic damage to a lip spoiler, that would be ~150 to replace.

I'll be honest - it's like damage you'd see on a 5+ year old car that's been driven a fair # of miles. Just from hitting pebbles and other shit kicked up by other cars. Maybe if you drove through a lot of construction all the time. But it's a 1 year old car and it didn't look like this before because I had been extra careful to keep it nice.

What would you recommend as a course of action? If I file through my insurance, would this affect my rate? Would having this on the record affect my car's resale negatively? Would they even cover it or would they say that chips in that area are expected? Is having the other car's plate #, name and phone # enough? I am in TN if that helps.

I have also thought about getting a paint pen, correcting as best as I can and moving on.

    Thanks for your help!
