Posted: 26 Aug 2019 07:55 AM PDT Today I had my first day where I switched industries from semi-dishonest financial sales to honest online marketing sales. The top earner at my previous gig makes approximately $300k/year and I learned today that the top earner at the new gig makes approximately $60k/year. Dont know what to think of it.. How would you feel about that? [link] [comments] |
How bad is ageism in software sales Posted: 26 Aug 2019 08:42 AM PDT I'm 30 and debating sales vs marketing, I remember my professor saying that when he turned 50 the sales companies didn't want to deal with him anymore because of his age, salary, etc. He worked in selling gas stations. I just don't want to jump into a career where I will be unemployed at 50 because of my age. [link] [comments] |
If you were starting your sales career all over again, what would you do different? Posted: 26 Aug 2019 10:16 AM PDT Take a trip down memory lane... You are starting your sales career again... What would you do differently? What would you avoid? What do you wish you knew? If you could move wherever and start in sales, where would you move today? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Aug 2019 10:08 AM PDT Hello, I am torn on what to do. My objectives are to stay in science and make the most money possible in my career. Right now I make 115k selling biotech software, but I have just received an offer for 160k total OTE for a liquid handling capital equipment sales role. What would you do? Stay in software and jump ship after the 2 year mark or take the raise now? What's the outlook for the future of biotech automation / robotics vs biotech / regular software? [link] [comments] |
New job in b2b sales. Having hard time. Posted: 26 Aug 2019 12:13 PM PDT I have a new job. I used to be in retail sales. My new job is an account executive for office supply. So mostly copiers and printers and services associated with them. It's been 3 weeks and I'm really struggling to get my footing. There wasn't much helpful training. I can ask the other guys questions and stuff but pretty much it's here's a list of current and former customers, here's some records of some cold calls the last guy did, go find something. So I do this over the phone trying to set appointments for account reviews with current customers except I don't know what I'm talking about really, and I cold call businesses in person and I don't really feel confident walking in especially with my lack of experience in the industry. Also, my talk tract is not very well developed. The people here said I shouldn't really expect to sell much if anything for a couple months. I just don't know how to stay motivated though. I'm really having a bad time not much fun like getting consumers excited about directv and new cell phones like I used to. This job pays a lot more though(base salary is more than I was making with commissions at my former job), so I'm very reluctant to give up. Can anyone give me some good advice to get rolling with the customer base? For cold calls? Staying motivated? [link] [comments] |

Business Development- Freight Forwarding Posted: 26 Aug 2019 09:15 AM PDT Hello All, If you have worked in Business Development- Freight Forwarding, can you please provide advice on how to succeed in that environment? 1- Outline the Sales Process used in selling logistics? 2- The best tactics to handle 'Existing Accounts'. 3- The best strategies to drive 'new business'. From what I hear, a lot of people say Freight Forwarding and selling logistics is 'solution sales' etc. Await discussion. :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Aug 2019 12:43 PM PDT I work as a flooring salesman, which involves a lot phone calls. I may meet a customer once and then work the rest of the sale over the phone. Lots of customers fall of the map (bought their product elsewhere) or just delay the purchase without communication. I try to make callbacks to keep in touch. Any suggestions on a system that doesn't make me seem annoying but also helps me sell? [link] [comments] |
Advice for burn out in B2B Software Sales Posted: 26 Aug 2019 12:39 PM PDT I have been working in b2b SaaS and tech software sales since graduating from college for the past 7 years. My first company was an amazing experience, and I was there for 5 years. Really enjoyed the ride during most if not all of it. Since leaving that organization, I have joined two scaling tech companies and each experience has shown diminishing returns in motivation and enjoyment in the role. I've managed to increase my salary at both new gigs as well. At my current job, my manager is the manager from hell, micro-managing everything and very emotionally volatile. I am once again eyeing the door for something new and the routine conversation of "should I stay in sales?" is playing over and over in my head. I recently turned 30, and all my experience is in sales, but I can't imagine doing sales for my entire life. What are some common transition someone with 7+ years of B2B sales experience can transition into? Am I stuck in sales forever? [link] [comments] |
Salaried Sales No Commission Plan Posted: 26 Aug 2019 08:20 AM PDT Hey r/sales, I've used a lot of the information here to advance my career, however my company changed their sales structure in December. When I was hired two years ago , I was offered a salaried Account Manager position with a bonus structure of 20% of my salary uncapped at the end of the year if the company did well. We've grown over 43% since I started with the company however in December they announced that no bonus would be paid out (which I never received), no salary increases would take effect (again, no raise since I started) and that we would be moving to a commission structure. It's now the end of August and nothing has been announced regarding the commission plan, and I've been told that if it does take effect it won't take into account anything retroactive for the year, meaning any client I've signed up doesn't matter. I know that if any other sales professional was in my position they would leave, but I actually love my job and don't want to leave if I don't have to. Is there anything I can do to try and fight this and get the commission structuire I deserve? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Aug 2019 11:02 AM PDT I feel lost I'm trying to grow into a better sales position but don't know where to go. I currently work at the biggest electronics sales store (Don't know if I can put where since I never see anyone on here put where they work but it rhymes with Rest Guy) and I've been there for 3 years and I'm sick of it. I absolutely love sales and I'm extremely good at it and would love that as my career path. All of my family thinks I should just pursue a career in medical or blue collar jobs and that's not something I want. Anyone have any advice on where to go next? TL, DR: Need advice on where to search for higher pay and better career path [link] [comments] |
Found out our worst rep was getting paid the most. What should I do? Posted: 25 Aug 2019 07:32 PM PDT Hello everyone! throwaway account for obvious reasons Hope you're enjoying your Sunday and not replying to too many customers on your day off ;) So as the title states, a couple of weeks ago I found out our worst Regional Sales Manager (RSM) was getting paid the most. What I mean by that is, his base salary was $65k and 6% commission. That is a significantly higher than what I and every other RSM is making. My pay is $50k and 4%. I am consistently the top rep in our company. I hit my yearly quota the second week of July. When I say he was the worst, I mean he was practically employed just to collect his base salary for nearly 2 years. Never came close to any quotas and had ongoing complaints from customers saying they couldn't reach him. He has since been fired (beginning of the month). How I found out about this was my boss, the National Sales Manager (NSM), and I were at a trade show. He got a little tipsy and told me the story of how and why our worst rep got fired. Then proceeded to tell me what his pay structure was. My jaw dropped. If my structure was set up that way I would of made an extra $43k this year (roughly $150k). My boss told me when this guy was hired, he was in a position to negotiate and the president of our company bought into the 'it's expensive to live in the west' pitch (he lives in the Vegas area). So therein lies my problem. What do I do? I can't stop thinking about it. I don't want to storm in and demand anything. I don't want to throw my NSM under the bus after he told me that. I don't want to come off as ungrateful. But man...it's eating at me and makes me feel under appreciated. But obviously they can afford that and I know I bring a lot to the table. I turned down higher paying positions so I could help grow this company into something special. Like I mentioned previously, I already hit my yearly quota. And will continue to build on that. Our annual review is in January. Should I just swallow the fact that he negotiated that, I missed that opportunity, and bring it up in my next review? If so, how should I approach that. Or should I do something about it now (i.e. have a convo with the president)? Any feedback would be appreciated. Pretty lost with what to do. Edit: added context [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Aug 2019 10:44 AM PDT Hello, I could use your advise on some price negotiations I am currently dealing with. I am the buyer. Here is our conversation so far (via email) - Me: I was wondering if you are selling Product Seller: I'v been thinking about selling, but haven't made any decisions yet. How much would you offer? me: I offer 300$, let me know if that sounds good to you. Seller: Unfortunately that's too small price. There's no point for me to give it up for so cheap. Thank you for contacting Me: I am looking at multiple other alternatives, can you tell me what is your expected price? Seller: I would think selling maybe 2000€. Someone offered 1500€ while back and I didn't go for that. Me: The price is a bit too much for my budget. What do you say about 800€? Seller: How about 1700€? Me: Besides the Product there are other cumulative upkeep costs and it is not worth it for me to pay such a high price. I think that my offer of 800€ is a reasonable price, what do you think? Seller: Sorry I won't go for 800€. I'm still using the Product and that is quite big deal to give it up. Me: Can we settle for 1200€? Seller: 1500€ I'll sell. What do you say? Me: Do you have any other offers right now? 1500€ is too much for the Product, my last offer is 1200€ Seller: I'm sorry I'm not satisfied with 1200€, I'v had 1500€ offered before and that was there first offer, but that point I wasn't ready to sell at all. I can come across to 1400€ that's my last price. It has been a week since then, I was waiting to see if they would reply back and maybe lower the price a bit. I want to get the product. I would prefer a lower price, do you think I should follow up or wait with this? How should I proceed? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Aug 2019 10:33 AM PDT I watched a youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_Z7gid-5ho It talks about how to cold contact a person to sell engineering consulting service. I kind of follow the idea. I put a title like "Mr. ABC, how is your project going?" In the context of the email, I put a link of an article that they must interested about and just said share the article with them. I did not use my company email address because I don't want that the 1st email is a sale email. I got 60% of email open, 40% of the link click, 5% of reply. Now my questions are

How would switching from Telecom sales to car sales be? Posted: 26 Aug 2019 09:07 AM PDT I've had a job since I was 17 withought fail I'm now 21 and I have worked for all the major phone cell phone carriers. The money's just not as good as it use to be a few years ago so I have been thinking about working at somewhere like CarMax or another dealership. My thing is I've always been a top salesmen whatever company I worked for because I know phones I'm really good with electronics specifically phones yet I barely know basics about cars. For someone like me would it be to hard to transition into a car salesmen. I have even thought abought insurance I have received a few offers from the likes of allstate and statefarm [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Aug 2019 12:33 AM PDT Like the title says, just thought I'd reach out to the sales community as I'm new to sales. I've looked up any information I could find but just thought I'd call out to all of you for any help or insight. I was left out in the water to learn on my own, with little training and preparation. After a kind of rocky first meeting with a client I managed to get, Ive learned a few things on the nitty gritty of the client rapport. But just looking for tips. [link] [comments] |
How different is Product selling compared to Solution selling?? Posted: 25 Aug 2019 10:44 PM PDT How different is Product selling compared to Solution selling? Previously, I worked for a Fortune 500 company for 3 yrs.. I sold tools and equipments to industries - (manufacturing and processing). I recently joined a software based product development company which sells IoT (Internet of Things) solutions to various industries, for obvious reasons (better remuneration) I am finding it really difficult to understand and adapt myself to the sales process - the way to approach clients, handling a sales call, points to be discussed mosty because I currently lack the adequate knowledge about this field ( willing to learn). But generally I've been rethinking my decision to have stepped into this entirely new and different field which begs me to ask the next question : Is Solution selling a different ball game altogether?? Will this shift create a ruckus for me in my career say in the pursuit of another job? If so how should I be prepared to tackle it?? Could really use some motivating replies and answers to my questions since I'm in a deeply confused state right now and it's directly affecting my confidence and productivity at work.. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
