Renters Insurance for Watercraft, Non-Auto Vehicles (ATVs, Golf Carts)

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 03:14 PM PDT

I am looking for a standalone market to direct clients who rent boats, jet skis, ATVs, golf carts, etc. when those who lease them have no avenue for the renter to purchase insurance. I realize that many homeowners have endorsements to allow for certain things, like boats under a certain length or HP engine, but I'm asking for situations where homeowners policies won't step in. Does anyone know where someone could purchase short-term liability and physical damage for the use of these kinds of equipment?

Advice needed on finalising my auto insurance

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 03:49 AM PDT

So I have narrowed down to Progressive which offered me the cheapest rate...relatively...for my age and the vehicle I will be driving so I see where they're coming from...

The quote I got from with the following coverages:

    Progressive

    ($1823 for 6 months, $303/month)

    Policy Coverage

    1. Liability: ($100k/$300k/$100k)
    2. Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist BI ($50k/$100k)
    3. Medical Payment: /

    Vehicle Coverage

    1. Comprehensive: $500 deductible
    2. Collision: $2500 deductible
    3. Collision Deductible Waiver: /
    4. Uninsured Motorist PD: /
    5. Rental: /
    6. Roadside: /

    Questions

    1. How are my coverages looking? I was going to go 25k/50k/25k for liability to save money but that seemed to be too low from some of the research I have done, so I went ahead and changed it.
    2. Is the Collision Deductible Waiver worth it for the extra $2 a month? I live in CA and a quick google search states around 15% of people here drive without insurance, that's scary!
    3. For the Uninsured Motorist PD, I tried to choose some coverage but Progressive doesn't offer any. When I clicked it there's only one option: 'No Coverage (Recommended)'. What happens to my car if an uninsured motorist hit me? Do I have to pay the deductible out of my collision coverage? That seems unfair.
    4. Is roadside assistance worth it for the extra $1 a month? This might sound like a no brainer since it's so cheap but I have heard every single claim you make, they will count as fault claims and will gradually increase your premium (sourced from another thread)

    Thank you so much!

Challenging corporate group insurance (mediclaim) policy.

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 02:49 AM PDT

Last month I had ICL surgery that cost me equivalent to 2k USD in India. My employers mediclaim policy covers upto 4k USD for me.

Before going for surgery I enquired about constraints by raising tickets and found that there was none and I was eligible for upto 4K amount.

After surgery when I raised claim, the company approved it for 500 USD only. When I talked to customer support it replied that my case is being treated as LASIK and it hs a cap of 500 USD. I forwarded them policy document that says there is no cap for LASIK. Now they They have replied that ICL will be treated as cataract and they have limit for cataract surgery in policy.

My question is:- Can we go to IRDA or court against corporate policy?

Uninsured accident after my policy was terminated.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 08:45 PM PDT

On the 4th of July, I was getting off an exit on the highway and looked to my left to merge onto the main road. Traffic was clear and as I brought my attention back towards my windshield, I almost shit myself seeing a car completely stopped 30 feet in front of me. Brakes weren't able to avoid the bumper so we pulled over and exchanged information. The damage on her car didn't look too bad, just a banged up bumper. I called my insurance company to get my policy number, as I didn't have my card yet (first red flag). After being on the phone for what seems like an hour I finally got a hold of my policy number. I also found out that it was useless, as they terminated my policy a week before the accident. I sat down completely defeated, and the fireworks definitely were not helping. They told me that it was terminated due to missed payments, though my agent told me my EFT was good to go. My girlfriend ordered us an uber to take us home as in the state I live in they tow your car if your caught without insurance. The next day I went to the DMV to pick up my car. I called the insurance company to see if they would reinstate my policy. Of course the answer was no, but it wasn't due to missed payments. There was an underwriting issue where they needed a copy of my parent's old policy, as I drive my dad's old truck. My agent initially told me that I was good there too, but to be fair he did reach out to me. The insurance company did as well, my roommates and I just never check the mail. After learning this I called my agent and he quickly got me into a new policy. After dropping a cool $750 to get my car back, I thought I learned an expensive lesson. That's just pocket change to what I owe now. Geico was the insurance company that the dealer chose for their insurance (the woman that I hit was driving a car from a dealership), and they reached out to me and told me that they would involve me in the process. Bullshit. They sent me a bill from a collections agency named Claims Resource Services for $3,600 dollars without reaching out to me once, ONLY 3 WEEKS after the accident. I know everything thats happened here could have been avoided had I just been proactive and made sure everything was in working order. I'm not blaming anybody but myself for this. But I would like some pointers since obviously I'm not well-versed in the world of auto-insurance.

TLDR: Insurance policy termination went unnoticed by me and my ignorance, and I have to pay for a fender-bender out of pocket.

No injuries reported to my insurance or police officer.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 06:28 PM PDT

Got into an accident. The other party assured the police that he didn't have any injuries and also confirmed it with my insurance a couple days later. The damage settlement seems to have been resolved very easily, to the point where the other party was willing to make a statement to my company to confirm no injury.

I've heard stories about people getting hit with lawsuits years later after situations like this. I have 100k/300k coverage.

    1. Considering the above, how much should I be worrying myself about a potential PI lawsuit that settles outside of my policy limits? How often do cases of my kind settle for this high of an amount?

    2. If I switch my insurance carrier, will they still rep me years down the road if a lawsuit happens?

    Lost coverage

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 07:42 PM PDT

My wife decided to get invisiline and pay her part upfront $2k and insurance was going to take care of the rest. She had to leave the job due to health issues and consequently lost her dental insurance. She got a new job but realized they did not offer dental but by now it had been over 30 days so I was not able to add her to my insurance. Now the orthodontist is sending me the remainder bill which is another $750..what are my options here?

    License address vs insurance address?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 04:13 PM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I spend about 8 months of the year at college in Buffalo, NY, and 4 months during vacation with my parents in NYC. I got my license recently, and my address on it is my NYC address. I am buying a car near NYC soon. Do I need to file my insurance under my NYC address, or can I do it with my Buffalo one? Buffalo is significantly cheaper, and I spend most of the year over there.

    Thank you for your time.

Realistic steps to becoming an underwriter without a college degree?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 10:24 AM PDT

So I was doing research into jobs that pay well without a college degree and being an underwriter came up several times as top comments. However, doing more research I'm seeing mixed answers as to whether a degree is necessary. Some say it isn't necessary but will require "x" training/starting at "x" position then working up, some people say "most if not all companies require a 4 year degree to even get an assistant underwriter position."

While I understand it would beneficial to have a degree, it doesn't seem like it's the end all be all if being an underwriter is what you want. I wanted to know what a realistic path to actually becoming an underwriter without a college degree would be? Any and all advice would be really appreciated.

    Under My Parents Insurance

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 09:22 PM PDT

So, as the title says, I'm under my parent's health insurance, and recently I've been coming to terms with the fact that I need a therapist. Now this is probably a stupid question but I'm still learning about stuff like this so that's why I'm here! But I was wondering, by using my parent's health insurance, would it be automatically be billed to them? Or could I have it billed directly to me? My parents are a part of the reason why I need therapy so I'm terrified to come to them about this, and if I do this, I don't want them asking questions and harassing me about it, thus making my mental health worse. Right now, I can't get my own insurance because I only work part time at my current job, and they only offer insurance to full timers (which they aren't accepting applications for). I'm looking for a new full time job with decent benefits, but I just really wanted to start on a path to getting better soon, before my mental health worsens even more. Thank you for any help~

Insurance is asking for proof of upgrades to my car that was stolen?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 11:28 AM PDT

So I had a 2004 Jeep Wrangler with some modifications done. Mainly just a lift, tires, wheels, bumper, wench, and KC lights on the front. I valued everything on the car to be about 5K, and now my claims adjuster is calling asking for recipients to prove the value. I don't have the receipts. Some stuff like the KC lights were on it when I bought it, but I feel that doesn't diminish the value of them and you pay for those when you buy a car like that. Is there anything I can do to not have to dig up when I bought the items I did and distinguish what was already on it?

My doctors office said they got pre approval but now I’m left with a bill. What can I do?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 11:22 AM PDT

I'm an Illinois resident with BCBS of Michigan health insurance and Express Scripts as my prescription medication provider.

I recently talked with my primary care provider about getting an IUD and she referred me to an OB/GYN to have the device inserted. I met with the OB/GYN and he talked about a couple different options, I didn't have a specific preference for one over the other so I chose the brand they had readily available in the office. He scheduled me an appointment for insertion a week later specifically to give the office time to get approval from my insurance. If they didn't approve, we would pick a new brand and try that route. I called the following week a couple days before my appointment and they said they were verifying with my insurance and that they would call me if there was a problem and if I didn't hear back from them then everything was set to go. I go and have the procedure and nothing is ever said so I assume I'm in the clear.

It's now a month later and I receive a bill from the office for the cost of the IUD. BCBS covered the office visit and all other costs affiliated with the procedure but they didn't cover the cost of the IUD with the explanation on the EOB being that it was covered by my prescription drug provider, Express Scripts. I wasn't alarmed because I've used my previous method of birth control for years and it was always covered 100% with no problems. I call Express Scripts and ask how my doctors office should bill them for the IUD and they inform me that the brand I got is covered 100% but is considered a specialty brand and must be filled by their mail order pharmacy, Accredo. I was told that it's not covered through an outside source but they can send my doctor a replacement IUD for his office from Accredo. I call my doctors office and they say that this isn't satisfactory and they won't accept that. I told them that had they actually gotten pre approval like they said they had, then this wouldn't be an issue and they would have known this wasn't an acceptable brand. They instantly go into the fact that I signed paperwork stating that I was responsible for the costs that insurance doesn't cover but I only signed it because they told me they got pre approval and my birth control has always been covered at complete cost so I had every reason to believe that it would continue to be covered.

This is literally the one and only brand of contraception on the market that my insurance doesn't cover without any issues. Had they done what they said they did then I would have picked a brand that was covered or waited for them to send one through their pharmacy. It's a hard pill to swallow and a frustrating circumstance to accept that I now owe $1450 for something that was previously provided to me for free! It makes me physically sick to think that I'm basically throwing $1450 away because of a fluke. I can't afford that. The doctors office is going to file a claim with Express Scripts just to be sure but they say it won't be covered. Is there anything I can do at all to get out of paying this? I don't feel like this is my fault. The doctors office seems unwilling to budge at the moment and just keeps referring to these papers I signed and they can fax me the documents to look at if I want.

    Moving Trucks

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 05:00 PM PDT

So, I'll make no bones about, I grooved a scratch in the side of a Penske moving truck and dented a bracket corner.

My question more concerns my options or where to look.

I assumed that my auto-liability would apply like it does for a typical rental, but that's not the case. So I was wondering if there was anyway I could claim it on my renters or homeowners.

I understand the answer could be no, and if there is no way I can get the damages covered, would a company like that work with me on any sort of settlement or payment plan?

My fear is, I don't know what they'll charge. I understand the damages aren't massive (it functions like it should), but I know they could charge for revenue lost.

In the future, I'll never risk this again, but at the present I just need to know if there could be other options. If not, it is what it is.

My wife was rear-ended by an ambulance. What now?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 08:24 PM PDT

My wife was in rush hour traffic today in New Jersey. Typical stop and go traffic. A private ambulance(not city) was following behind her. They were not on a call and did not have lights or sirens going. They rear-ended my wife who in turn rear ended another car who was around three feet in front of her. All three drivers exited the vehicle and were fine.

The car my wife hit(a Ford) had a dinged up bumper. The driver barely knew she was involved. But still waited for the police to arrive to be safe. My wife(a Kia) took the majority of the impact. The damage I could see was rear bumper was bent, rear right fender is also bent out of shape. Her hood is crumpled. The front right fender is bent and as a result you can't open the passenger door. The grill is broken as well as the glass protecting the front right headlight. The rear car(ambulance) received minor damage. Mainly a bent front bumper.

After the police took all the insurance information the three cars were free to go. My wife pulled into a gas station and waited for me to drive up as she was nervous to drive the car back home. While she waited she called her insurance and started the process of filing a claim. The insurance agent told her that an adjuster would be in contact within 24 hours. They also sent a list of auto mechanics that they use and we made an appointment with one to drop off the car on Friday morning.

They asked my wife if she wanted her insurance company to file a claim with the ambulance company's insurance. We said yes. We did not have a rental policy with our insurance. We also have a $500 deductible on the policy. What happens now? Would we be able to have the ambulances insurance company reimburse us for the cost of the rental and deductible? I'm not a mechanic but I imagine that the repairs will take at least a few weeks.. We're saving for our first house and really don't want to have to pay out of pocket for a rental for up to a month. Any information would be greatly helpful.

USA - Out of state new resident

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 08:16 PM PDT

I am 27, no job and no income at the moment. Currently living with my parents. Just moved to new state and need to seek medical help. It is not life threatening but I need to get checked out before it gets any worst. I contacted a Urologist office and they seem to be wanting to get me in for a visit.

Should I go before getting Medicaid? If I qualify.

The office wants me to go and pay out of pocket but if I do that, will it hinder my Medicaid in the future involving the same problem area for treatment? They could be really helping me out or else just trying to take my money at full price. I really don't know. The examination visit is $370.

American Family Insurance (Tree (old and possibly dying) from neighbors yard fell on my car)

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 06:44 PM PDT

It happened just now, it is storming outside and I heard a big thump sound from outside. My sister just got into the driveway and an apart of a tree fell down on my car and possible her car. We couldn't tell because of the heavy rain. I had to go out and get her with an umbrella.

I was never good with this kind of stuff. Can anyone from American Family Insurance or anyone who is an expert with insurance can explain what I should be doing?

Neighbors tree fell on fence. What can I expect?

A big rain storm happened tonight and a neighbor's tree fell and destroyed a portion of my fence. I just submitted a claim but it's after hours so I doubt I'll get a response until tomorrow.

Half of this tree fell last year on to my property (before the home was actually built) and so now the rest of it came.

Do I have to pay for this? Should my neighbor submit this claim through his insurance? I'm not stoked that I need to pay any money for someone else's issue. But such is life...

Driver backed into our car - their insurance offering to pay 50%

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 09:37 AM PDT

This accident took place in a shopping mall parking lot in Florida, where we reside.

    • We backed up our car.
    • We were switching the transmission to drive, but before we could move forward we noticed a car backing up into us.
    • We hit the horn.
    • The car hit us.

    • We visited our insurance agent, who recommended we file a claim with the insurance company of the person that hit us, Geico.

    • Geico says we both hit each other, and that they will pay for only half of our damages.

    "wheel and tire" insurance

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 06:14 PM PDT

Car dealers and aftermarket warranty companies sell "wheel and tire" insurance products that are designed to cover damage to tires/wheels if you hit a pothole/get a flat etc. These plans are popular in states where the roads are in poor condition (Northeast/Midwest). Is it generally worth getting a separate policy for something like this vs using your normal auto insurance? Does using these types of products count as a "claim" for purposes of rates on renewal or coverage decisions? Or is it a separate thing?

    [NC] Auto Insurance Question

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 10:57 AM PDT

    Posting for a friend.

My friend wants to get their driver's license (they already go their learner's permit), but my friend is not a US citizen and is in the US on a student visa. They have no immediate family in the US.

From what I understand, in order to get a driver's license you need insurance, and in order to get a car you need your license. My friend just wants to get a license, but not a car (they will be using my car for the driving test to get their license). She doen't really want to drive either after she gets her license, she just wants to get it now so that when she does get a car in the future (a few years down the line), she can say that she had her license for a few years so their premiums are lower.

From what I've researched, my friend should get non-owner car insurance. However, I talked to my insurance agent and he said that through State Farm, my friend would have to buy the non-owner car insurance for a whole year to the tune of $1400, and she would have to pay the whole $1400 in advance. My friend is not going to pay $1400 just to get their license.

My agent also said my family could add my friend to our policy, but that he couldn't remove her from the policy until she could prove to him that she had her own insurance. I don't understand why this is, but it's not an option for us either.

My question: what does my friend do? Are there "temporary" non-owner policies out there? Anything else we may be missing?

    Thanks!

Bought an extra truck insurance went up 50%

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 08:10 PM PDT

My wife and I had a car each. I just purchased a truck to keep in addition to the two cars. When I added it, my insurance went up by 50%! Ex. If I was paying $500 for each car for liability before ($1,000 total) adding the truck increased my bill from 2x to 3x $500 ($1,500).

I argued their exposure was no different whether I had 2 or 3 cars because my wife and I are still driving the same amount of miles. She told me it didn't matter. That was state farm, Nationwide told me the same but said it's because the ins comp doesn't know if somebody else is really driving the third car.
Is this common? Its a rip off!

High auto insurance rate - what am I doing wrong?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 11:49 AM PDT

Hope I'm in the right place.

My (30/m) auto insurance rates have never decreased since I've begun driving. They either increase or stay about the same. I've had one at-fault accident (11 years ago), and two speeding tickets: one right outta the gate; the other was 5 or 6 years ago.

With what seems like a fairly clean record, I can't understand why my rates continue to be as high as they are. I'm currently paying $210/month. I shop pretty regularly (especially when nearing renewal), but I'm consistently quoted a monthly payment between $200 & $250. I always get quotes from several agencies.

Regarding my policy, I don't have anything bundled in; it's just auto insurance...and it's just me; no other drivers. I carry full coverage, which is what my credit union/financier requires. I do not opt for any ancillary products such as roadside assistance, etc.

Anyone have any knowledge as to why my rates continue to be what they are? If you have advice on what I could do to lower them, that'd be great too.
