For the longest time, Ive been wanting to study herbalism and open my own shop. I was hoping I could get some advice for a complete newbie who's venturing out on their own. Do I need a degree in Business/Management? Thanks to everyone in advance.

[Hypothetical Discussion] What's the point of a Brick and Mortar store?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 11:12 PM PDT

Here's the Situation: Company name is "Bob's Wacky-Tacky Toys" and Bob sells unique toys online and is looking to start branching in new areas. He always thought the idea of a BaM store is neat! A place all of his own and an actual location instead of selling things only online. He makes good profits from selling things online and is ready for another step. Hes deciding that he wants to build it close to him in the home town of Swaggerton, NJ 42069 since thats a location he can go to and visit if problems arise.

Problem: Bob is worried that the overhead costs would really take a toll on his company and make it go negative. We're talking Lights, Employees, Local Advertisements, you name it. How many little kids are actually running around Swaggerton and are in the need of toys instead of smartphones and fortnite? Bob is conflicted and reconsidering ever having a physical location, as a lot of purchases in the toy industry can be easily done online. He won't have to pay for employees to stand idle either, waiting for a walk in (if it'll ever happen)

Discussion: What would be a good argument to make for someone trying to go from Virtual to Physical stores? Would it even be worth it?

(I had this question for a day now, and It was really bothering me. I personally feel like if you're sales are virtual, then why build a store? Unless you're offering a service such as construction, or like a laundromat, then what;s the point of having your own store? It would be better if Bob here reached out to say Walmart/Target and ask to carry his stock, but t have a store of his own I feel like would be a wasting more money than it's gaining because of the limited location and the demographics in the area aren't quite changing. Please, I would like to hear both sides to this, and I think this is an interesting discussion. Thank You!)

Disclaimer: Swaggerton, NJ 42069 is not a real place.
