I'm so angry, I just sent out an email to a client... Posted: 30 Aug 2019 07:03 AM PDT ... With no close. No "Sincerely." No "Regards." Not even a "Best regards" (You know, to really show him how upset I am.) Nope, not today. Today was just the signature block, and nothing else. I'm feeling good about this life-choice. I just hope the client survives this blitzkreig tactic long enough to pay the fees I'm still owed. [link] [comments]

Asking for an informational interview after career fair Posted: 30 Aug 2019 10:03 PM PDT I'm a sophomore and just went to my schools accounting fair to meet the recruiters and mostly learn about the SLPs. The main question that I tried to ask all of the people that I talked with was along the lines of "I'm a semester ahead from APs so I have ~15 credit hours to mess around with. Would it be overkill to take MIS and/or computer science courses to prepare for automation/AI?" I seemed to get good feedback and there were a couple of people that gave me so much information that I think I'd like to talk to them more about what they do (one was a tax technology consultant). I was wondering how I go about asking for an informational interview given the context of it being right after a career fair, I genuinely want to interview these people, it isn't just to get my name out there. I already sent out my thank you emails, should I be waiting a few months and then asking them to lunch/coffee to keep the connection fresh as well as distance it from the career fair? Posted: 30 Aug 2019 06:40 PM PDT Met with a manager from a mid-size firm. Got a bit nervous. He indirectly said that I should look for industry positions. Also suggested that I should get more experience. But also had a pretty decent chat about his history and struggles, got personal as well. Need some opinions as this was my first meeting of this sort. [link] [comments]
Industry Compensation Thread 2019 Posted: 30 Aug 2019 09:48 AM PDT Figured it is time to collect some info on the few of us in here that aren't students or in public accounting anymore. Proposed format: 1. Region 2. Title or line of work 3. Old and new salary 4. Other non-salary compensation 5. Average Hours per week estimate (think this might be informative for a lot of people out there) Hope you're all enjoying the good life out there. [link] [comments]
[CAN] Applied for CPA Membership! Posted: 30 Aug 2019 05:44 PM PDT I finally got an email saying my professional experience reports have been verified, and they said I can send in my application form. I feel like this process was hell, I won't even lie. It took a long time to write these reports, then discuss with my mentor, and then get my boss to sign. I don't know why it couldn't be more streamlined. Glad it's over now, and I can just suffer by being forced to do PD courses! [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Aug 2019 02:42 PM PDT So I'm starting my sophomore year and I go to a small public university. I'm taking my first accounting class and I actually enjoy it so I'm not complaining about accounting or anything like that lol. I'm just stuck because I feel like all I can do is just focus of school. I'm trying to get relevant experience in accounting but I've already done VITA and it's not tax season rn. I was thinking about doing a teller position at a bank but after actually taking an accounting class I see a teller position isn't really relevant to accounting. I've looked into internships but they all require you to be a junior or senior, actually got an interview for one my freshmen year but they said I didn't have enough "schooling". I've also looked into SLP's but tbh not really sure how to apply for those and also not sure if your school name matters to get an SLP. I also have a leadership position in an accounting club. So basically, what should I be doing rn to get relevant experience in accounting as a sophomore? Preciate it! Y'all are the Funniest sub on reddit tbh lol. [link] [comments]
How many Summer 2020 internships are still available at big 4? Posted: 30 Aug 2019 05:15 PM PDT I'm really stressing about finding an internship and I'm wondering if big 4 is even still recruiting. I know a lot of their positions come from the SLP, so does that mean they're still recruiting? My school is recruited by all the big 4 and regional firms, but EY, two mid sized firms, and a bunch of small firms will be at Meet the Recruiter in a couple weeks. Does that mean the other firms already have the positions filled? [link] [comments]
[CDN] September 2019 CFE writers, how bad is SecureClient for you? Posted: 30 Aug 2019 07:04 AM PDT Sorry for venting, but this is literally the worst software I've ever used in my life. I cannot use the reference material in the practice exam because of issues on CPA's end (I tried using a VPN and a hotspot and it still won't work so it's not a WiFi problem). Are you guys experiencing the same issue? I feel like it doesn't work during CFE, the chaos that'll ensue will not be good. P.S. I am not going to talk about how dumb down the excel and word are because that's gonna make this post a literal 5 paragraph essay LOL. [link] [comments] |
