    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 03:18 PM PDT

This happened on Saturday afternoon. I was pulling out of a crowded spot and scratched the car next to mine. I received no damage to my car, and her car was just scratched a little bit. I took tons of photos just to be safe.

I didn't have paper so I decided to just wait for her to come back to tell her. When she did I explained what happened and she was actually okay with it. We exchanged numbers and said she didn't want insurance involved. I thought hmm, okay.. we'll see. Sunday morning she told me it was going to be $4000 worth of damages (which was really surprising considered how minimal it appeared). When I asked for a picture of the car report she refused, so then I told her to go through my insurance.

Today my insurance called me and questioned what happened. She then said that she claimed an injury and had an attorney. This is what I am confused about??? She wasn't in the car? She was inside a store, I waited like 15 minutes for her! I told the insurance lady that and she said they would need to investigate.

    Any advice here?

Tricare/ Express Scripts charged me 90k for one medication..help!

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 03:41 PM PDT

On January 11th, my husband out processed from the military after 8 years of service. This was a hardship discharge. Due to my chronic health issues, I was unable to be left alone for the long periods of time required for trainings and deployments. We were told by his unit representative that since we had paid for a month of Tricare, we would continue to have coverage until Feb. 1st.

On January 29th, we received a letter from Tricare informing us we were no longer covered and the treatments I had undergone would not be paid for. This 18 day lapse without being notified ended up costing us thousands of dollars. I attempted to file an appeal, was denied, so I made reasonable payment plans and arrangements with my physicians. We figured we'd closed that chapter of our life.

On June 7th, I received another letter from Express Scripts, the pharmacy contracted by Tricare from which I received medications while my husband was still in the service. The letter informed us that due to the lapse of coverage, the medication shipped January 17th, would be billed in full to us. We have been charged $91,222.65.

The specialty pharmacy that shipped my medication ran my coverage prior to shipment. They have sent me invoices for $28.00. I have spoken to the employees who have confirmed this.

I know this a lengthy post, but we are running out of options to fight this. We have filled a congressional inquiry, as well as starting another appeal process. If anyone has any tips or resources on how to fight this, we would greatly appreciate it!

Insurance is requesting for my medical and wage records

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 12:54 PM PDT

Sorry if this is not the best sub to post but I have this question.

A few months ago I was riding Uber and the car went in an accident, I went to the hospital, missed a few days at work etc. The uber driver's insurance's representative contacted me and we got settled. Two months later the insurance representative from the other driver is requesting for permission to dig in my medical history. I called them and they said they have to pay half. But all my bills are covered. I am confused and I really don't want to give them permission to get my medical records.

How do I prove 18 years clean UK driving record for US car insurance?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 07:04 PM PDT

    Hi

Currently locked in a battle of wills with State Farm who are charging me $430 a month for car insurance even though I have an 18 year clean record in the UK. They will not accept a DVLA document which clearly states that I have no endorsements because it doesn't explicitly state which endorsements I don't have.....(the DVLA are the highest authority in UK for driving record, equivalent of the DMV). There's no talking to them and they won't let me speak to anyone in the underwriters team to confirm exactly which documents they will accept. They did confirm my insurance will drop to $150 a month when I can prove a clean record - but won't tell me what they will accept.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Interview with a Fortune 500 insurance co for life event specialist...any tips for the interview?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 07:21 PM PDT

    Hey gang,

I've got an interview on Wednesday with a major insurance company for a position as a life event specialist, which focuses on educating and managing people who are claiming their short term disability benefits, and then helping them transition to long-term disability, and/or FMLA claims.

What are some pressing issues to know about in the insurance industry, or tips or hints that might help give me an edge in the interview? I've got some questions written down for them, and they sent me a word document with some sample questions that I thought about and wrote answers down for, for practice.

I've already had a 45 minute phone interview that went very well in my opinion (and I guess they agree since I was called for an in-person interview.) My background is in police communications and in teaching more recently, and I felt that my experience in helping the public navigate public bureaucracy in both of my previous careers is a big plus, not to mention my experience with education, since they said a large part of the job is supposed to be customer education.

I'm nervous because I have not managed to get a new teaching job for the fall, and this job seems to offer a really meaningful career in helping people with benefits that they need that will be a big pay increase with good benefits. Me and my family are counting on this!

Thanks to any and all insights anyone can provide.

With a bronze plan with hsa... would I still get a discounted price on labs, etc.?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2019 01:12 AM PDT

Our medical insurance is costing us a fortune and I'm looking at a cheaper plan. We both have health issues and a high deductible plan looks potentially scary. The deductible is 6250 each with a 30% copay and a 6550 out of pocket each. I know floridablue has contracts with providers and ultimately pays them very little compared to what they are billed. Would I benefit from that discount or would I be charged full price? The difference between our previous insurance and the cheaper plan is about 125 each week but our costs may be a lot higher and I don't think I'm seeing the whole picture.

Has Anyone Dealt with Express Scripts?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 06:47 PM PDT

I'm new with medication and dealing with insurance, so I'm pretty dumb with how it all works. I have BCBS IL, but apparently medication goes through Express Scripts. My doc has me taking two adderall pills a day. One is 20mg XR, and later on in the day, she has me taking 10mg IR. It's been really working for me. The 20mg XR is $80. When I first got my 10mg IRs, they pharmacy instantly gave me generics (Dextroamphetamine-Amphetamine) that were $20. I'm thinking awesome, well can I get the XR's generic, too? They stated no, because my provider wont cover the generics (which makes no sense to me if the IR generics are). They said to call them to request it.

I call Express Scripts and get the most confusing run around. At one point the dude's asking why I don't just take three 10mg tablets a day... Eventually he says I need to contact my HR to get a number, give that number to my doctor so my doctor can request the generic 20 XR's to be covered in the benefits? That made no sense to me, but ok. Has anyone had to deal with trying to get the generics from Express Scripts covered? Is there a better process of doing this? I'm kind of younger and when it comes to insurance I literally have no idea what I'm doing. My life improved so much while taking this but it's getting to a point where I cant afford this.

Personal vehicle used to perform job

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 11:52 PM PDT

I recently was involved in a car accident, everyone is okay. but im still waiting on word from allstate if they will fit it or total it. If it gets totaled out ill be in a very bad spot. I travel for work alot as im field service and use my personal car for the job. If they dont fix it, the cash offer will not be enough to get me back in the same spot, much less pay for a vehicle thats as reliable. Plus im kinda in a month by month situation money wise. The car has been maintained properly and is in top mechanical condition, i just had the transmission rebuilt recently along with new tires and other stuff (i know already to save those receipts). I'm also still paying on the loan for it too. My question is, because i need to have it to perform my job, could that affect or be an argument for a higher assessed value? i wasnt able to located any articles via google on a similar topic. The car is fixable, i just wouldnt be able to do it myself, much less find that time.

Can my car insurnace company back date a policy?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 11:01 PM PDT

In March of 2019, I sold my Jaguar. I called my insurance company and told them to cancel that car insurance because I no longer owned the car. The agent told me that I couldn't cancel because my homeowners would go up higher than car insurance would. So I kept paying on a car I didn't own. Fast forward to May 2019. I called and got insurance on a new truck. They sent me an email with a temporary ID. Then last month, I got a notice from the DMV that my registration on the new truck was about to be suspended for no insurance. I logged on to my State Farm account to see in fact there was NO car insurance on the new truck! I called and they wanted all of my sales paperwork for the Jaguar, including the checks and bill of sale and everything I had on the sale. (which has nothing to do with the new car insurance) I sent it all. Now my insurance company finally gave me truck insurance but is backdating it to the date that I originally asked for the policy. But I had no car insurance on any car during those months. Is this legal? Also, the truck is older (2014) than the Jaguar (2017, top of the line F-Pace) and my premium is almost double now on a crappier car! Thanks for any help!

Does car insurance follow the car or the driver?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 06:52 PM PDT

My mother and I live separately. I have a car and she has her own car, and we both have our own auto insurance. She is not included in my policy, and I am not included in hers.

What happens if I get into an accident while driving my mom's car? (or vice versa)

    Thank you

J.D. Power Mitchell Workcenter valuation not crediting equipment in package?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 10:20 PM PDT

First-party collision claim with Progressive in Missouri.

I have a Rav 4 with an "extra value package" that includes things like upgraded wheels + full size spare, roof rack, privacy glass, DRLs.

None of the comps they've found are listed as having the extra value package, which they then credit me a paltry $51-$69 adjustment for (why such a range?). However, clearly some of them do have the package, because then WCTL itemizes the add-ons listed above that the comp has and adjusts downward $75-200+ as if my vehicle did not have these options.

If the comp vehicle has, say, rear privacy glass, it's a negative adjustment of $130-140 despite my vehicle also having this. If it does not have rear privacy glass, my only apparent positive adjustment for having that feature is in the $60 for the package.

I can't seem to verify any details about the comp vehicles as most are 3+ months sold.

We're being pretty rushed through this whole claims process, and it feels like something's not right here. How can I make this more fair?

    Snippet of WCTL report.

[Texas] Filing a liability claim and now insurance is trying to tell me that its a total loss claim but refusing to give me some information

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 01:23 PM PDT

So back in the beginning of last month I had a fender bender. Some lady changed lanes, didn't check her blind spot, and side-swiped me. Low impact collision and the only damage appears to be to the body. Clearly her fault (I have her on recording saying she didn't see me and how sorry she was), local PD issued a citation right there, and insurance accepted liability within the hour.

Anyway, my car isn't worth very much and I know that. The insurance company is telling me that he ACV of my car with all taxes, fees, etc. is about 3500 and that the salvage value is 350. I think its a bit higher but that's not the point of this post.

Now, I've had two estimates done. The first one, the insurance company sent a guy to my door to look it over. His estimate came back at about $2000. I then took it to the insurance's preferred repair shop and they came back with an estimate of about $2200, so that seemed to triangulate pretty well. A few days later I get a call from the insurance company stating that they were going to total it.

I protested this and pointed out that I'm in Texas which has a 100% TLT. They countered by saying that the preferred company, in addition to the estimate for 2200, has also passed along information indicating that another 500-700 of repairs might be needed. I asked where this documentation is and they said the repair shop wouldn't provide anything in writing (even though they provided the estimate in writing - WTF?). I pointed out that this still doesn't get them to the 100% TLT but they said something I've never heard: that while the 100% TLT applies to structural losses, they still refuse to fix a vehicle where the repairs exceed 75% of the ACV and are deeming it a "financial loss"

I called the repair shop and spoke to the gentleman who actually wrote the repair and he said he has no idea what they're talking about - that he wrote the estimate as accurately as he could, that there's no phantom $500-$700 in additional repairs floating around and that his opinion was that its all just body and cosmetic damage - no real structural damage to speak of (and, to be clear, I agree with that assessment due to the literal 4 mph impact speed and because I jacked up my car afterwards and looked at it for a good long while and didn't see anything out of the ordinary, took it on a good test drive, and everything checked out)

The fact that this additional $500-$700 has apparently materialized out of thin air, can't be verified in writing, and is just about the magical amount of money needed to get the car from "repairable" to "totaled" makes me think that something's screwy but of course I don't have a lot of experience with this and can't make heads or tales of it.

My own preference is that my car just get fixed which leaves me with a good car, and costs them about $1000 less - so I'm baffled why what appears to be the simplest, most straightforward, lowest cost option, is so problematic

NICU & Out of Pocket Max

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 08:04 AM PDT

Hi & thanks for taking the time to read this. Back in March, at 27 weeks pregnant I was forced to give birth via emergency C section & my baby has been in the NICU ever since. Recently, she had to get transferred to another hospital for a necessary surgery. We have hit our out of pocket max in both in network & out of network. The hospital we are currently at (as well as the one she visited for the surgery) are in network, but as we are noticing- certain medical professionals in each place are marked as out of network, for whatever reason. We have paid all medical bills to date, aside from one which we are making payments on. It totals $1,200 or so.

We received about 5 checks over the weekend from insurance. They totaled ~$5,000. When my husband called today to inquire, he was told that they are to offset bills we are on the hook to pay. Apparently the ambulance transport she required to travel from hospital to hospital and back again was not covered and they told my husband it looks like it is ~$10,000. There seem to be a few more charges after that as well from what I understand. We haven't received any bills yet, but have the checks in our possession. I believe that insurance was contacted and had to approve the ambulance transfer before she was able to be transported.

In a situation like this- where we don't have any choice, and we hit our out of pocket max in both IN and OUT of network, how do we fight this? She is scheduled to have another surgery tomorrow and it scares me to think that somehow we can possibly be on the hook for tens of thousands of dollars.

Car accident insurance question ... other insurance agency acting fishy

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 09:18 AM PDT

    Hi y'all,

I come to you for advice as this is my first car accident and I don't want any rookie mistakes to screw me over. A few days ago I got in a car accident where the other car swerved into my lane and struck my wheel. I was not injured thankfully. My car was immobile and the driver's door was damaged so it took me a few min to gather my bearings and leave the car from the passenger side. The driver drove off for a few blocks and returned on foot to speak with me. After speaking with the police, he was picked up by a different car and my car was towed. I had a flight this Sunday so the earliest I'll get back is Wed. I called my insurance adjuster over the weekend and left a voicemail but he has not returned my call. Two things make me nervous:

    1) The police report contained some mistakes. The cop got both color's cars wrong. Thankfully my car shows streaks of white paint on the impact area that match the car that struck me. This worries me because:

    2) I got a call from my insurance agency yesterday saying that I need to speak with the other driver's adjuster. The other insurance agency is saying "things about a third car", according to my insurance agent that spoke with me. Only one car struck me. He drove away from the scene and walked back on foot. He was picked up by a different car upon cop providing us with the police report. There are only two cars on the police report. I am waiting to hear back from my adjuster to schedule a viewing (I live two hours away from the tow yard where my car is currently impounded) before speaking to speak with the other agency ... isn't this something my own insurance should do anyways? They have my recorded statement and have a copy of the police report I uploaded. Any help would be appreciated - I don't want to get stuck with the bill for fixing or replacing my car.

My claim adjuster just gave me a lower offer than what we settled

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 07:07 PM PDT

My claim adjuster just withdrew the offer he made (on Friday) to an even lower offer today. We were about to settle with my total loss claim and I told him when I would be available on Monday (today) so he could hand me my check. I waited to hear back from the adjuster all day and finally got a call back with him saying he is offering me a lower amount because he made a mistake. We already went over the offers back and forth and we FINALLY came to an agreement to settle. Now he doesn't want to give me that offer and he told me I have NO other options but to accept. I was so furious because this has been dragged out longer than it should (over two months). He basically told me that he's just going to mail the check to me and that we're done talking about this. Should I go with my own insurance? Or am I SOL?

Got denied for son's heart surgery (US)

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 06:51 PM PDT

My son had a rare heart anomaly that even pediatric cardiologists had not seen before. His heart was monitored over several months to see how it develops. Since it was such a rare case, the local pediatric children's hospital consulted with cardiologists from around the world to gather input and discussed this case for a long time. A few weeks ago, this group of experts came to a consensus decision that removing the anomaly was necessary to prevent risks for blood clots and pressure against other structures around the heart. So, in short order we got a surgery date and got everything ready. My insurance company then sent a denial for authorization after the surgery was already done. I am planning to start the appeal process but need help in navigating this. As it's a rare case, I don't expect the insurance company to even have the expertise to evaluate it. I feel quite confident that the evidence backing up this surgery is strong, but you never know. Feeling pretty desperate at the moment. This is BCBS via my employer. I have never had any issues before.

Should I accept second settlement offer after declining the first offer?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 05:52 PM PDT

I've never been in this situation so I'm not really sure what to do and how to get the most out of my settlement. At first the insurance I was going after offered $7,000 for my accident which includes: totaled car (missed work hours), trip to the ER (no ambulance) for an airbag burn, and 2-3 months of chiropractor. How much should I get for these damages?

Speeding Ticket (IL) - How are insurance rates affected?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 04:49 PM PDT

Have had myself a real shitty evening. Had to stay longer at the office to fix someone's mistake and time slipped by. I bring my puppy to doggie daycare and have to pick him up at 6 o clock. Long story short, by the time I saw the time and left, GPS had me being there 5 minutes late. Picking up after 6, you automatically get charged the boarding rate ($40 dollars), so I was trying to get there as close as possible to 6.

Anyways, to my luck, a cop caught me going 50 in a 30 a couple minutes away from the daycare. Got slapped with a $164 speeding ticket.

Do I just plead guilty and pay the fine? Do I go to court and request supervision? I am wondering how much this ticket will affect my insurance rate if it goes on my record. This was in Illinois. I might have one other ticket still on my record (Not sure if it was June 2016 or June 2017- for talking on cell phone while driving). Thanks for any advice.

Car Accident Caused by an Uninsured Driver

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 04:42 PM PDT

Hello, I'm in Missouri and was rear ended this spring- thankfully no one was injured. It turns out the girl who hit me was uninsured. I filed a police report and filed an insurance claim. However, my insurance company told me that even though my policy says "uninsured motorist" that just refers to bodily injury, not property damage (don't worry, I signed up with a new insurance company). My car needs repairs ($2,000-$6,000) and I thought that's why I've been paying my insurance company. Do I have any options to make sure the girl who hit me pays? I read about "no pay, no play" in Missouri and I tried to figure out what a no fault state is, but I just don't get it. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I’m a 19-year old full time pre-med college student in Illinois and currently jobless. I would like health insurance—where do I start?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 04:37 PM PDT

More info: Currently living with single mom who's income is just barely above the threshold for Medicaid. I feel like a parasite because I can't find the time to work given my packed school schedule as well as the EMT classes I am currently taking. My school does not provide health insurance either. Do I need income to be accepted for Medicaid on my own? At this rate, the earliest I'll be able to work will be in October.

Also, the last time I applied for Medicaid I was denied because of a "lack of information" on my application. I'm very stressed out and would appreciate any advice.

    Thank you

Need advice- crashed rental car, not an authorized driver

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 04:23 PM PDT

This occurred in a no fault state, I am at fault though.

I was driving the rental when we got into an accident. An ambulance was called, but no one was taken to the hospital. The person who hit us has much more damage than our rental car (airbags deployed and the tow truck driver mentioned it was probably a total loss). We are under the impression that the person who signed the contract on the rental will be deemed financially responsible and her insurance will be involved. The Property damage liability is 10K and Personal Injury Protection is also 10k. There is no coverage for collision. I am assuming the damage is going to be greater than the 10k.

I have slightly better coverage, but my insurance is not involved at the moment.

We are at a loss at the moment since we dont get into accidents so we dont know what to expect in terms of deductibles and damage that may not be covered by the insurance policy.

Any advice on how to proceed and what we might expect from the insurance companies would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
