Sunday’s Success Stories - Celebrate Your Successes From the Past Week: Anything goes, none too small!

    Posted: 08 Jun 2019 06:06 AM PDT

Welcome to this week's Sunday's Success Stories Thread.

A lot of us get way too hung up on the destination and the fact that we are not there yet.

It is important to take a moment to reflect on a great quote from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., "The steps you take don't need to be big, they just need to take you in the right direction"- Jemma Simmons

This is extremely relevant to all of us in this community. We should all be more aware of the successes we achieve every day that carry us closer to our goals.

Celebrating these successes, no matter how small they are, allow us to stay motivated, focused, and happy while we struggle to achieve dreams of various sizes.

The purpose of this thread is to share our successes from the week with one another and have something to celebrate together.

So, let us know what successes you have achieved this week! Nothing is too small or insignificant!

How to provide an API demo without risk?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 01:15 AM PDT

    Hi All,

I have a consulting startup company where we provide "black box" solutions for data science problems. There is a company who would like to buy one of our solution, and they requested an API demo which they can try out.

How could we ships this without the risk they just take the code and use it? (I think a contract would not stop them as we are small and do not have lawyer or the money for suing)

I was thinking about creating a REST-API then host the compute heavy part on one of our servers. But this way the solution will have greater latency as the algorithm which we would prove is working on 4-5Mb images.

Do you know any good solution for his?

Peer Support and Self Management Saturday’s - A Safe Place to Vent, Seek Emotional Support, Share Self Management Techniques and Experiences, or Just Rant

Welcome to this week's Peer Support and Self Management Thread.

This is a Safe Place to Vent, Seek Emotional Support, Share Self Management Techniques and Experiences, or Just Rant.

The goal for this thread is to help one another manage mental and physical health so we can more easily find success.

We all struggle sometimes and it is important to recognize that the struggle is part of the journey. The important thing is to learn how to overcome that adversity to grow and succeed.

Be tactful and classy in how you vent your feelings and share your frustrations. Act in a mature manner.

Ask questions, share experiences, and be there for one another. Practice empathy in giving advice and remember that what worked for you isn't guaranteed to work for others. Make suggestions, not demands of others.

How to find a good lead outsourcer

    Posted: 08 Jun 2019 03:18 AM PDT

I've long been skeptical of using a lead outsourcer for an expensive B2B product and I think that most lead outsourcers would do a terrible job but a connection introduced me to one that operated quite differently.

    1. They charge per day of work, not per mail or call. They do this because they put more work into high quality personalised, researched connections not volume. When reaching out to C suite anything less is completely wasted effort.

    2. They had a great track record with a company with a less compelling product that would be sold in a similar way to a similar audience

    3. Their process has a lot of quality control to make sure that their messaging is on point

    4. They agreed a very ambitious break clause because they were confident that they could deliver

The results have been exponentially better than my internal sales team, really amazing. I have the lead outsourcer hooked into our CRM and can see all their interactions and am trying to get my guys to replicate the success.

So my tips for finding a good one are. Make sure their way of working matches what you know works for your customers. Find one that's got a good track record with a similar proposition, preferably one that's harder to sell. Get one that's confident enough to agree a very ambitious break clause.

Downsides to creating a C-Corp if still working full-time elsewhere.

    Posted: 08 Jun 2019 01:08 PM PDT

Thank you all for contributing to this amazing community, I know this is a question more suited for actual lawyers but thought I'd post here as well.

I understand that initially, LLCs/S-corps are better for founders, and then if it requires funding - should be converted to a C-Corp.

My question is, hypothetically if a founder wanted to set-up a C-Corp before launching the MVP. But they are still working full-time elsewhere, is having a C-Corp while working full time somewhere else problematic?

I understand that the founder should go full-time on their startup first and then look into incorporating, but hypothetically if this was NOT the case and the founder wanted to incorporate while working somewhere else full time, would anyone know how that goes?

    Thanks again!

    EDIT: Clarifying my question

Trouble Finding Things to Sell in Online Store

    Posted: 08 Jun 2019 05:45 AM PDT

Basically, I would like to make an online store where people can find known brands all in one place. There is something different about my store compared to the online stores that are already available that I feel would actually bring people to my store. I've been at a block for a couple of months now and can't figure out how to solve this. Since I want to sell known brands on my store, I would need the permission of these top brands. I don't want to carry any inventory for now as well. So, if someone were to purchase something from my store, the shipping and handling would be done by the seller.

Basically, how do I get these brands to allow me to catalog their items on my website and take a small commission of the sales (similar to drop shipping)? And where are these other big online stores able to get the brands to use their items? It feels like there are so many online stores now selling all the top brands but I don't understand how they are able to get all those brands...
