    Car collision due to hydroplaning.

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 06:51 PM PDT

I hydroplaned and spun off the highway in my girlfriends 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The rain had just picked up, and a light came on that I later identified as the electronic stability control light. I checked what that meant after the fact and it meant that the system designed to prevent hydroplaning malfunctioned instead of operating as intended. No one was hurt in the collision, but the cars left side is pretty damaged. How can I help our insurance claim with this information?

    Car accident without insurance?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 06:27 PM PDT

Hi guys! I recently sold a vehicle to a friend of mine but both my friend and I are still registered co-owners on the tittle. Along with this car he has a another vehicle insured. So he's an insured driver however I am not. He left town for a few days and I rear ended someone and totaled his car. I told the cop I wasn't insured.

However since the vehicle is technically his he has 30 days of automatic coverage from when he purchased the car to insure it under his policy. It's only been a week or since I sold it to him.

We have yet to file a claim but we're wondering if the insurance will cover the vehicle since he recently purchased it, and hadn't added it to his policy...and he wasn't the one that crashed it...

Same leak/damage within 2 months (Home Insurance question)

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 04:41 PM PDT

We have a guest bathroom upstairs that is directly below my studio. We noticed when running a bath, water started dripping out a small hole in the ceiling (hole was from a sound panel I had mounted).

Immediately called plumber and insurance and went through the long process of getting the drywall ceiling partially torn out (exploratory- covered by insurance). Plumber determined that it was a drain pipe burst, and we paid out of pocket to fix (as we expected since insurance only covers the damage, not the repair).

Ended up needing to replace bathroom tile, sheetrock, drywall ceiling, and some miscellaneous other expenses. Insurance was great, covered everything minus our $1000 deductible. Total cost covered by insurance was about $4300.

Work was finished about a month ago.

This morning, my wife takes a bath in the tub, and water starts flowing again out of the same hole in the ceiling below! Sound panel comes loose and crashes to the ground (nothing too damaged, but scared the bejesus out of me).

We spent 2 months getting this resolved and now it's like we're back at square one. I called and left a message with our insurance agent as well as the plumbing company that did the "repair"

My question is - what is our liability here? Will the insurance company go after the plumbing company for the new repair estimate? Are we expected to get this fixed again? Will we have another deductible - or will they combine both incidents?

Someone broke into my car and destroyed my drivers door/window, will my insurance go up because I claimed it?

If it helps, it was criminal and I filed a police report.

Car insurance quote--"policy holder" vs "additional driver"

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 05:33 PM PDT

My spouse and I just got married, and are getting off our parents car insurance policies and onto our own. We got a really nice quote from Progressive with both of our cars on it. However, he's named as the "policy holder" and I'm an "additional driver." Is this okay? Am I sufficiently covered with this? Is there another way we should be doing this, like joint policy holders, or is that not a thing? Do we need our own policies?

    Medicaid coverage for weird surgery

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 12:25 PM PDT

I have a weird, rare disease that needs surgery and there aren't any surgeon in my state that can do it. There is a surgeon that wants to do a different surgery that has been shown to have an extremely high failure rate and potentially deadly complications.

I have basically Medicaid, like a sliding scale version because I've been completely unable to work since my last surgery failed. I've spent hours on the phone with them trying to get coverage for one of the 4 doctors in the US that does this surgery but they keep deflecting and sending me to random specialists that have no idea how to help me.

Is there anything I can do here? I'm I just stuck with the crappy surgeon/option that will likely kill me?

Since I don't work, I don't qualify for tax credits and the out of pocket premiums and deductible is insane, like almost as much as my mortgage.

One of the surgeons from another state told me to write my congressman? How will that help? I'm so frustrated and scared.

    Quick health insurance question (U.S.)

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 11:12 PM PDT

Friend has a broken hand that might need surgery. Doesn't have health insurance. If she signs up tomorrow is she eligible for treatment right away? Or does it depend on the provider and each circumstance? Thanks

    Home Insurance for Past?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 11:07 PM PDT

I had a lapse in home insurance coverage last year. Was slow with re-roofing and didn't bother to shop since no one would probably insure me without the remodel finished.

I was insured with Nationwide and policy was from 5/30/2018 till 5/30/2019. They canceled it on 8/28/2018. I started with another company on 12/1/2018.

My mortgagee somehow found out that Nationwide canceled my home insurance and now giving me a lender-placed hazard insurance binder, demanding me to pay for insurance between August and December. The company that sells insurance is INTEGON. It's quite expensive in my opinion (almost 4x as expensive as I pay now). And I asked around, I asked my current and past insurers for help, and nobody can give me similar product for 3 month in the last year, even if I sign a separate waiver or statement that there's nothing happened.

What can I do? Do you know anyone who can sell insurance for the past? How do I deal with that?

    Thanks in advance!

How do you ask to get paid more for insurance claim?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 11:07 PM PDT

Based on California - Basically as the title states. A lady damaged my car in a parking lot (Scratch and small dent to quarter panel Rear bumper and the Rim). If it were a beater car I wouldn't care but it was a 60k dollar car. Anyways Her insurance is supposed to take care of it. I went to a collision shop (not associated with the AAA insurance company ) to get an estimate on the damages they got it up to roughly $3600 in damages. However the Insurance only cut me a check for $1900, saying they couldn't see the damages and that an agent would need to come look at the car when it is going to be getting fixed. However Before this incident I was planning on selling my car already. So behold I ended up selling my car a week after the incident and sold it for ~3,600 less. they did not pay me loss of use nor rental reimbursement. How can I ask the insurance company to still pay me the $3600 the body shop quoted me? Am I able to squeeze a little more out of them ? I still haven't cashed the original check so the case isn't technically closes. Please advise on how to go about the situation. Thanks!

Never had life insurance, don’t know where to start. Want to protect husband when I die.

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 11:09 AM PDT

Don't, nor have I ever had life insurance.
Don't know where to start, employer doesn't offer it.

How many policies can I take out? Is there stipulations if I'm only a customer for a year? Does age matter?

Credit cards have some form of life insurance but they are small amounts that won't protect him for the rest of his life.

Sorry I'm so ignorant on this I really don't know anything about this

I got health insurance finally..Now what?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 09:12 AM PDT

As the title reads I finally got health insurance for the first time in almost 3 years. I was under my dads insurance until I turned 18 and then I was taken off but I finally got my shit together and got Medicaid. But I don't really know where to go next.

I've struggled with my mental heath for a while so I know I need to find a therapist and get on some meds. I also should make an appointment with a gynecologist to check my IUD. But I feel stupid for not knowing where to look or what else I should do so any help is really appreciated!

Leaving company healthcare scheme before approved surgery?!

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 11:01 AM PDT

I am part of my company's healthcare policy with Bupa, with whom I have been approved for major surgery worth approximately £20,000. However, this surgery isn't going to happen until early next year and so I am curious to understand what would happen if I were to leave my company before the surgery occurs.

I have spoken to bupa consultants who have said that I would be able to get a continuation policy which would have no further underwriting, meaning that I would still be able to have my operation when the time arises. However, the policy would then become a personal policy and so I'm worried that the premiums will rise significantly?

Note that I don't plan to leave my company but I don't want to feel stuck, thinking that I have to stay there or face healthcare costs which I can't pay off.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. As a bit of background info which may help: I live in the UK, am in my low 20s and have very good health in general. The operation I'm set to have is a one time thing and will have no effect on my health in the future. I currently pay around £500 per year in premiums.

    Thanks in advance!

Car insurance: what do they know?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 04:45 PM PDT

My partner and I are going to buy a car soon. It'll be the first car for both of us. I have over the years driven my dad's car, and various rental cars. For about a year I drove two different cars that belonged to my dad's girlfriend. About 5 years ago I had a small accident with rear-ending somebody (damage was invisible but unfortunately it was a BMW and they claimed some interior part of the bumper was broken - cost $2100 so they did file a police report because that's the policy is to file if the damage is above $2000) - he filed with his insurance, but I paid out of pocket rather than having my dad's girlfriend pay through her insurance. Two weeks ago I was driving a UHaul to help my dad move some stuff and while backing up into the tiny driveway hit the car of a friend of mine. There's a dent so he offered to go through his insurance because he's not at fault so apparently his rates won't go up.

I want to know - are these things that I will need to tell the insurance company or things I should be trying to keep quiet? Will they know these things already even if I don't tell them?

Also when I'm getting car insurance quotes they often say " Have you made any auto claims in the last 10 years?"

Personally I haven't but I'm unclear on what language means in insurance world - should I answer yes to this because I have been "involved" in auto claims even if I didn't make the claims?

PS I am located in Ontario Canada, however to add a bit of complication my partner and I are buying this car in order to move to Nova Scotia, Canada, where we plan to live (and where car insurance rates are much lower). Not sure if this affects things at all because my 'record' could be different in these places?

Thanks for any help that anyone can provide!

HSA Coverage - Purchasing NormaTec Recovery

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 03:06 PM PDT

Was wondering if anyone has had experience with purchasing some NormaTec Recovery boots through their HSA program?

It seems like this could be something you could buy with your HSA account but was curious if anyone has done this or knows of this is something allowed.

I'd hate to purchase and then receive a penalty.

    Thanks for the info!

Likely moving states, how do I handle car insurance?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 12:34 PM PDT

I currently live in MA and drive a car owned by my parents. The car is insured with a plan under my dad's name. I will likely be moving to RI (only about 20 minutes away) in the coming months. How do I handle the insurance for this if I take this car with me? Can I leave it registered in MA or do I have to register it in RI (and would the car's ownership have to be transferred to me to do this?) Can I keep it on my parent's policy with an out of state location or do I have to get my own? If it makes a difference, we currently have USAA although I would likely change carriers if I had to get my own plan since they're very expensive for me. Are there any other considerations I should have in mind?

New to insurance. What does the text below mean?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 06:34 AM PDT

My insurance provider is AXA. I have taken up the step to visit a medical professional for my mental health. I stay in the U.A.E.

However the coverage is only upto AED5000 ( that is barely 3 sessions)

I was going through their plan and it said "Dhs 5,000 A co-insurance of 30% applies to this benefit. The limit shown applies to in-patient, daycare and out-patient treatment in aggregate. Any deductible applies in addition to the co-insurance for all out-patient treatment under this benefit. No benefit is payable for the services of a psychologist unless a treatment received is under the super vision of psychiatrist and both practitioners are recognized by us. Please note: this benefit requires our written prior approval."

I cannot understand a word of this. Can someone please explain?

    Primary vs. secondary insurance

    Posted: 09 Jun 2019 05:53 AM PDT

If I have a primary HMO, and a secondary PPO, do I still need to get referrals for coverage when seeing a specialist?

In other words, if I go directly to a specialist, would they bill my primary HMO first, that would be denied due to lack of referral, and then it would go to my PPO which would cover it?

Or can this be problematic at some point by bypassing the referral process required by my primary HMO?

    Thanks in advance.

Can adjuster change partial denial in home claim?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2019 09:48 PM PDT

In a home water damage claim (California), the adjuster sent out a partial denial for the reconstruction. What can I do to fight the denied part of the claim?

They sent out a 3rd party who wrongly advised the damage I'm fighting is unrelated. I have analysis to prove them wrong. But before they scheduled a real specialist, they sent out the partial denial letter.

Can I still convince the adjuster to change determination?

    What are my options?
