    Non-payment "due to our insured's non-cooperation".... what???

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 03:51 PM PDT

My previous post about this (I'm in TX btw): https://www.reddit.com/r/Insurance/comments/b4s4nv/any_tips_i_need_to_know_before_dealing_with_a

Basically I got hit from behind, got the other driver's info, and filed a claim on his insurance a month ago. Never heard anything back from the insurance company in spite of calling several times and leaving msgs.

I just received a letter saying:

"This letter will serve as written notification that we are unable to make any payment for any damages resulting from this loss at this time.

There was no independent verification of the facts of the loss or of our insured's involvement in the loss. We have attempted contact with our insured driver through phone and mail, and the insured party has not responded to our requests for cooperation.

Due to our insured's non-cooperation, we have been unable to confirm coverage or liability for this loss."

What can I do here? It was a cut and dry case (or so I thought) of me being stopped at a light and the guy rear-ending me.

edit: I appreciate all the advice. I've started the claims process with my own insurance

Pay out of pocket or let insurance handle it

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 04:54 AM PDT

I backed into a car on Saturday. Trying to avoid rate increases, and the owner of the car not wanting an accident reported on his car, I decided I was going to pay out of pocket. This was after I already gave Geico the cars vin number and the owners information in the initial report. The repair estimate from the shop came back as $2,850, which is more than im wanting to pay out of pocket. At this point is an accident already going to go down on his car? Also I hit a deer and had a claim earlier this year, so I am wondering how two claims would look on my record. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Happened in Michigan Insured in IL

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 04:24 AM PDT

So my SO and I were driving through metro-detriot. We drove under a freeway bridge and heard a nasty "crash" noise. Alarmed I told him to pull over since it sounded like something smashed into the car. He refused and instead drove back to where we were staying. Our door has a nasty dent and scratches all over it. (We were in the left lane and there was nothing visible on the road for us to hit.) I wanted to know if we can even claim this to insurance or if because he didn't stop is it pointless? Also will they cover if it happens out of state?

(I don't exactly remember what kind of insurance he has on the car. Its fully paid off so I doubt it will still have full coverage.) Thanks in advance for your help.

I damaged my car. Got it fixed without calling my insurance company. Is it too late to tell them.

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 08:26 PM PDT

Hello all. Sorry if this is a stupid post, but I'm terrible with insurance knowledge.

So about 11 days ago, I side swiped my own car as I was leaving work. There are these small trees on the sidewalk, with a 2 foot high metal fence around the stump. I cut a turn too soon and side swiped my own car on the fence. I took the car to my repair guy, and he fixed it for $1150.

I did not call geico, who I have insurance with. My thought was that this was 100% my fault. I didn't think they would cover it, and I also feared telling them this would just increase my rates.

A co worker said to me that I can still tell them about it to get it covered. For reference, I have full coverage. Comprehensive and collision, with each having a $500 deductible.

I didn't take any pictures of the damage. All I have is the receipt for the work done. Should I give them a call?

    Thank you!

    Geico Insurance claim

    Posted: 23 Apr 2019 02:02 AM PDT

Car is in a body shop from rear end damage in accident. Other party at fault.. Geico will only pay for used or aftermarket bumper cover...not OEM for a luxury German auto. This will lower value of my vehicle and used parts void my warrant? Thanks

Sister lost health insurance through parents and is out of the qualifying life event period

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 09:29 PM PDT

Hi, this is in Orange County, California. My sister and I haven't been in contact with our mother for about a year, so she lives with me and works part time while attending college.

She tried to go to the doctors last week and discovered that she has not had insurance since January 24th. I tried to enroll her through Covered California, but she is not eligible because it has been more than 60 days since January 24th We were not made aware that she had lost insurance through our mother.

I also can not enroll her into my employee insurance because she isn't a dependent of mine. Do we have any course of action for this type of situation? She is 20 and I am 22.

    Thank you in advance.

NJ/NY Auto Insurance Question( Uninsured but frequent borrower of car)

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 11:59 PM PDT

So I've looked around to some older posts which come close to answering this question and I've seen a few general rules around auto insurance emerge but I am still wondering about potential risk and coverage issues, especially since I do not know what type of coverage the owner of the car has or what exclusions are in the policy.

My girlfriend and I are both in Grad School and live together in Northern New Jersey. I do not own a car nor do I have any auto insurance. My girlfriend's parents, who live in New York have provided her with a car, and have listed her as an additional insured on the policy. The car is permanently with us in NJ The car was originally purchased in New Jersey but was re- registered in NY and I believe the title is in the dealers financing company's name. I assume the auto policy is in New York as well. Obviously my girlfriend is fully insured whenever she is driving, but I'm curious about coverage when I am. Our daily commute to school involves a lot of traffic and mu girlfriend prefers to let me drive I'm such situations. While I rarely drive the car without her, I tend to drive more often than her when were together. Her parents are aware of the situation and are perfectly comfortable with letting me use the car. When researching I saw two general ideas that seemed to be at odds with each other. Generally the insurance goes with the car: this would indicate that as a borrower withpermission, I am, (or perhaps more importantly, her parents) are covered. The other principle stated that some insurers tended to deny coverage when someone was a frequent borrower of the vehicle. These are the issues which I've identified: 1. Does my girlfriends out of state status matter if shes listed as an additional driver on the policy? 2. As a long term co-habitant of and significant other, am I considered a relative on her parents policy?
    3. Alternatively, am I considered a use with permission driver, a frequent borrower, or an uninsured motorist? 4. If I get into an accident while driving the car and coverage is denied or the damages exceed the policy limits will her parents be personally responsible or will I? 5. would it possibly make sense to get insurance for myself on her parents car? (can you even insure yourself om a car you dont own?) (is this worth doing?)

I'm sorry for the long post, but I thought the circumstances were pretty novel and due to the multistate nature of the policy I didn't know if general rules apply. I know specific answers aren't possible without viewing the policy but any help would be appreciated, if only to get a better idea.

Feeling overwhelmed with 30 health insurance options from employer.

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 05:52 PM PDT

Basically what the title says. I have 30 plans to chose from and I really am not sure how to go about narrowing them down. Here are the options available to me. I'm healthy and non smoker. I only work part time while I'm in school so something on the cheaper side would be best I think.

Any help narrowing these down and pros cons of he different types would be greatly appreciated!

Was not at fault, insurance closed claim with no settlement

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 07:12 PM PDT

I was involved in an accident where cargo from the back of an Enterprise truck fell and damaged my car. I received the information of the driver, but no police report was filed. I submitted a claim around 2 weeks ago through Allstate, where they gave me an repair estimate of a price that was slightly less than my deductible, as well as start their "investigation". I provided pictures of my car, the license plate of the the truck as well as information about the driver. Since then, I haven't heard anything until today where Allstate closed my case without further information. I'm pretty confused on what to do/what my options are at this point(bringing it to small claims, filing a complaint to state insurance, etc.) Would appreciate any insight on my situation.

    Car accident / Insurance question

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 10:44 PM PDT

This is in California. I'm not too sure about how things work in the insurance world, so if someone can tell me what normally should happen/what I should be doing/etc. that would be great. Here's the current timeline:

    4/20 Saturday

    • I was backing out of my parking space in a parking lot and noticed a car also backing out. I pressed my brakes (car stopped moving) when I noticed he was still backing out, but he still kept backing up and collided into the rear of my car. I think the fault would be on that driver.

    • Took a picture of the driver's insurance card and license plate, the damage of the car, got his name, email, and phone number.

    • Saved a copy of my front dash cam of when the collision happened... It only shows my windshield, but also has sound.

    • Created a claim on Geico (my insurance)

    4/21 Sunday

    • I received a call clarifying some stuff, and they set up an appointment to inspect + repair my car.

    4/22 Monday

    • I went to drop off my car at Geico's recommended repair shop.

    • Found out the estimate (~$1337) was less than my deductible ($2000), and also learned that Geico wouldn't subrogate the other person because of that.

    • Pictures of the damage discovered by the repair shop were uploaded to my Geico Claim, which I was able to download a few of them.

    • Filed a claim using the other person's insurance (Dairyland). I mentioned that my car's currently in a repair shop, but the guy creating the claim said it's fine. Additionally, he said the adjuster would contact me in 1-2 days, and that I can call the adjuster if she doesn't.

    • Contacted Geico that I created a claim using the other person's insurance. They said they would close my claim.

    • Contacted the repair shop and was told the manager will be back tomorrow...

So I guess my questions would be:

    1. Does it sound like I have a good case for proving I am not at fault?

    2. What would happen to my car if it takes awhile for Dairyland to determine who's at fault?

    3. If I were to repair my car without waiting for Dairyland to make a decision... what would happen? Would my claim still be able to proceed?

What should I expect from a Geico homeowner's insurance inspection?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 06:32 PM PDT

I switched from State Farm to Geico today and the agent mentioned at the end that they perform an inspection within 14 days. I normally work M-F so I'm trying to figure out if their inspections are normally external only or if they're internal as well.

I also have 2 dogs and a cat that I try to keep put away when service people are over. This avoids anyone running out the door or barking excessively. If I have to call off and be there for an internal inspection will they be okay with not going into my bedrooms? Or at least 1 of them?

I'm doing a film shoot in Africa for a company I am an employee for with my personal gear. Can they insure my gear for the duration of a trip?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 08:40 PM PDT

I have an upcoming trip to Africa in which I am making a video. This is a trip I am expected to go on, but not just for the purpose of the video. Rather than pitching to my company to buy gear (which they'd probably settle on gear that is too entry-level), I'd like to get some nice gear for myself. However, I recognize the risk of bringing $3k worth of equipment to rural and urban areas of developing countries. Is there a reasonable mechanism that my company could use to protect my gear against damage in the field or theft elsewhere?

(Auto Insurance) Is it okay to call my adjuster instead of waiting for them to call me (first time)?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 08:28 PM PDT

I was told while I was filing a claim on the other party's (at-fault) insurance that an assigned adjuster will call me in 1-2 days... is it okay if I call the adjuster instead? Since 1-2 days is awhile, and my car is in a repair shop (already disassembled).

Car insurance in an uncovered accident

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 07:48 PM PDT

While driving a rental, I backed into a car in a parking lot. I am finding out now that I may not have been covered for this situation.

    Background:

    • The car I normally drive is owned and insured by my parents. I am not named on their policy.
    • I did not purchase the optional insurance when I rented the vehicle.
    • I rented the vehicle with a credit card that covers some rentals, but specifically excludes trucks and does not include liability insurance.
    • The rental was a truck. It was the only vehicle they had available at the time.

From what I have gathered, it seems that I have no coverage in this situation. My main question is this: do I attempt to file a claim with the credit card company, even though I know it is not covered?

I am in contact with the owner of the other car. If we must exchange insurance information, what information would I provide if I don't have a policy number?

Lastly, if I know I am uncovered for this situation, is it best to just try to pay for the other driver's repairs? I am definitely willing to do that but I don't know how to come to that agreement.

Carfax mark hurt the resale value of my truck, any advice?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 05:10 AM PDT

About 6 months ago a homeless man had kicked a dent into the back right door on my truck. I filed a comprehensive claim with Geico, to which they paid me $700 after an estimate to get it repaired. I bought a Carfax report on my truck after learning about diminished value and, lone behold, there is a mark on the carfax report from this incident! I contacted Geico and they told me that they do not report to Carfax, so there must have been some police report as this happened while I was away from the vehicle. I was never contacted however. The mark on Carfax itself says "Accident" when in reality it was from vandalism. There was a nice imprint of a shoe on the dent which I took photos of.

Is there anything I can do?

Where can I buy gap insurance without an auto policy?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 07:04 PM PDT

I currently have Geico but they don't have GAP insurance. I wanted to price out GAP insurance, but I can't seem to find places that do it without bundling with auto, which I don't want to do. I'm going to buy a new vehicle Wednesday and I heard the dealers often mark up GAP a lot. Where can I look for one?

Do I even need GAP? The vehicle MSRP is $46860. My loan amount is $35,177. Do I even need GAP?

Sorry for all the questions, but appreciate the help.

    Thanks!

Just passed my GA P&C adjusters Licensing exam, and have applied to around 12 places with no luck.

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 08:53 AM PDT

Like my title says, I recently passed my adjusters exam and have been applying for trainee positions as a claim adjuster. I have no prior experience so I took it upon myself to get my license before applying to places to help me appear as a more attractive candidate for companies. I've applied to around a dozen jobs and haven't heard anything and if I have they said they don't want to interview. I'm a bit confused, I figured that I would at least be able to get in the door to some of these places with already having my license but that doesn't seem to be the case. Any help or suggestions on how to help?

Edit: I have a bachelor's in criminal justice and have been working on a masters in the same field.

How to build a surety company

I started reading about insurance in general, and then surety bonds in particular. I found it very hard to find information about how would someone go about building a surety company (only issuing surety bonds and no other line of business). I would highly appreciate anyone who would point me to that information. Thanks!

    Pre repair diagnostic tests

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 04:57 PM PDT

I recently was rear-ended by another vehicle and the repair shop included a pre and post repair diagnostic test for trouble codes in their estimate, which was later withdrawn by the insurance company as my vehicle manufacturer has no position statement on its requirement. They also claim that such a test is not necessary in a rear-end collision.

My vehicle is a 2018 Volkswagen with blind spot monitors and rear traffic alert, how do I convince the insurance company (Progressive) that not running this test affects my safety and should be included in their estimate?

(Auto Insurance) Giving a statement to the at-fault party's adjuster?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 04:50 PM PDT

I've been reading that if I am not at fault and file a claim with the at-fault party's insurance, that I should not give a statement to the adjuster.

Is this correct? The adjuster hasn't contacted me yet, but when they do, do I just answer everything to the best of my memory? Or do I just say that I don't want to make any statements/don't want to be recorded/etc?

    Out of state accident

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 04:33 PM PDT

I was in an accident out of state. I legally reside in California, but am stationed in Alabama for the Air Force.

    I have an Alabama policy.

The accident was ruled the other party's fault.

My Jeep was ruled a total loss.

Does USAA have any legal right for comparing my Jeep to like jeeps in Alabama for a Total Loss Settlement?

Because my Jeep is registered in California and so am I, shouldn't they compare it to Jeeps in CA?

Does anyone know what laws would apply to this?

general insurance for land without a home

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 04:29 PM PDT

I'm in North Carolina with 6 acres, no residence on this property, just sheds with nothing worth insuring. There is a neighbors house that is within range of trees, which is my main worry every time we have a storm. My understanding is a living tree falling would be an "act of god". However, does a professional (I will be getting some other trees cut down by the road) need to determine that trees are living or is it just apparent.

I'm also concerned about someone trespassing on 4-wheelers or the like and hurting themselves. My car insurance (State Farm) said it might cost between 300-500 a year for something like homeowners insurance, but no specific product was pitched as he would refer me to someone. Was going to talk with Farm Bureau as well. Any advice is welcome and appreciated.

Insurance for large vinyl record collection

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 12:00 PM PDT

Kind of a convoluted scenario, but bear with me:

    1. For my business I use a relatives basement to store very large vinyl record collection.

    2. From my understanding, the main insurance companies have a threshold before business insurance is required.

    My questions are:

1.What is the best option to insure large record collection?

    1. Would it complicate things that the collection is in another persons's house?

    2. Can the relative claim that it is their own record collection, and I can pay the relative however much the additional insurance costs? Or is that not allowed given that the records are part of a business?
