    my first sale

    Posted: 13 Apr 2019 07:39 AM PDT

I'm 16 years old and opened my Shopify store about 2 weeks ago. since then I have generated over 650 visitors, and tried to better my store everyday. But the amount of visitors to my store is slowing down, and I haven't even made a sale yet!

I'm currently doing a giveaway on facebook as a marketing strategy but it's not going well, only 3 people have entered in the span of 2 days. How can I improve my store, boost the visitors back up, fix my giveaway, to eventually make my first sale?

If you want to check out my store and help me answer these questions, I would really appreciate it! www.tecoh.be

b2b Mobile App Startup with First Adopter (customer), anyone want to join?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 11:26 PM PDT

I started a b2b mobile app service for bars and nightclubs to manage their product inventory and automated distributor order fulfillment. Each location pays a monthly service fee (from $100 - $250), right now there's only one signed up as the first adopter of the product. Basically I have this MVP product built in React Native for iOS and Android. The backend API system is all in PHP/MySQL running on CodeIgniter framework. There's also a front-end dashboard as well. It's built pretty well and functions as intended, however there needs to be some improvements as the product has been tested and requires changes to function better.

I've been the primary developer on this but truthfully development is just not interesting to me at all anymore. I've been coding for 10+ years and can continue building it myself at will but I'd really like to start focusing on other important aspects of the business such as sales and marketing. For example I already have the next 10 bars lined up to sell to once this first adopter product is polished up (3 immediately). I've built another app in the nightlife industry and somewhat well connected in the area to get local adoption a bit faster than normal which I think will prove useful to establish initial traction quickly. I'm going to end up finishing the product regardless if I find someone or not but I figured it be a lot easier with a partner who can focus on the product development side. I'm going to have to keep going back and forth between testing the product, making improvements, coding those changes, pitching to new locations, etc, etc. which is just this intense loop of skills that drains you lol. I know it's going to be difficult to find someone to fit the role of a solid developer on this project, as I get pitched start up ideas all the time as a developer lol, worth a try anyways.

This product is a definite niche solution but I believe it can scale while providing real value to the end user. Short term goals 1) would be to generate reoccurring income for me / potential partner, 2) continue growth in a local area, 3) hire as needed for growth. Long term end goal would be to grow to around $1MM in revenue per year (4000 adopters) and sell it.

If you think you can be of help or interested in some other way let me know.

The unfortunate lesson of partnering with inexperienced people (Attempting to recoup losses)

    Posted: 13 Apr 2019 12:57 PM PDT

It always goes the same way, with a great idea, a good plan, and a friend bringing inviting you onboard. (I was invited on CTO role) Things are great, I spend roughly 1000 hours developing out a website for their concept and then, after completion, the "CEO" get discouraged and eventually abandons the onboarding of vendors, along with the team he worked with. Little did I know how inexperience and immature he was.

So we all live and learn, thankfully this was a very minimal monetary investment, yet lots of time lost. I am proceeding with attempting to liquidate the website along with domain (pretty much the whole concept).

If anyone has advice or outlook on how best to sell an asset like this I would be greatly appreciative. Its a fully functioning multivendor market place. I will link below if anyone wants to take a look.

I still think the concept is brilliant and I wish I had the team to make it work.

A major retail chain (think Walmart) is interested in carrying our products - until now, we've only been selling on Amazon. What should we know beforehand? Tips from your experience?

    Posted: 13 Apr 2019 02:19 PM PDT

It's a non-food, non-perishable item, price point $15-20, think a small device such as a new can opener or beer chiller. We designed it and are the only manufacturers.

    1. What should we expect from an offer? Should we name a factory price or wait for their offer based on our selling price?
    2. What usual terms should we expect? Regarding payment terms, stolen goods, broken goods, returns, guarantee, exclusivity, non-compete, ...
    3. What should we absolutely try to avoid?
    4. What should we ask for?

Thanks for your answers and tips

Does it even make sense to use Facebook Pages if you aren't going to spend any money to promote them?

    Posted: 13 Apr 2019 09:11 AM PDT

I don't know about you guys, but I don't get shit out of using my Facebook Pages organically anymore, and was just curious if any of you still actually use yours without spending any money?

One of my pages even has over 20,000 followers, and I still don't get shit out of it!

Investors wanted for Social Media Marketing Startup.

    Posted: 13 Apr 2019 02:36 PM PDT

Hello all, I am looking for a partner for my startup business "Influencer Pro Marketing".

The company is focused on connecting Instagram influencers/advertisers and businesses that want to advertise on social media. It is essentially a classifieds website for Instagram marketers, and we take 8% of all the transactions. (Transactions take place when somebody pays for an Instagram ad). I can provide more information and business plans if you want to contact me privately.

"7 billion dollars were spent on Instagram marketing in 2018" (statistas 2018). Close to all this money would be private transactions as there is nothing out there like my company right now. This industry is new and IPM will hopefully be the first to get a chunk of it.

I'm looking for either a Web Developer to help with the tech side of things or an investor who wants to invest $5000-$10,000 (to be used for web development). You could work from anywhere and be as involved as you like. I handle the business and growth side of the company.

Please contact me if you are interested or have any questions.

Is affiliate marketing worth it? Need some tips!

    Posted: 13 Apr 2019 01:56 PM PDT

Hey guys, I'm 17yo and I have a business website (kinda still under construction/testing , I'm programing it) it's: bilatech.net and the Instagram @bilatech_ Ps: we also have a fb store that syncs to the website

My business model is take products from Amazon, eBay, etc and put it on my website and get a commission if someone buys it.

I have a few questions for you guys.. 1) Is this business model worth it? If not, what do you guys recoment I do with my website and free time? 2) I'm focusing on Portugal teenagers (the products redirects to the Spanish ebay/amazon/etc), should I just go full Internacional? (usa/UK amazon/ebay/etc)? 3) I see a lot of shopify stores. Why are they so popular? They have some sort of magic that makes the store profit? 4) should I focus on a specific category of products? If so, what do you recoment? 5) Do you guys see any improvements I should do to my website?

As you guys probably noticed I'm kinda lost here tring to build a fully automated website, I'm probably a teenager with a lot of will to do things but pointed on the wrong direction. Please show me da way reddit ❤️

    Advise on hiring/working with photographers.

    Posted: 13 Apr 2019 12:53 PM PDT

    Guys hi,

I need to hire a photographer to do series of photos on travel topic (photos that we need are not on photo stock sites)

Found couple of capable guys i am talking to now, one thing that i question - most of them want to keep copy right on photos and license them to you. So any time you want to do something else with them - pay.

Should i just accept it? Or should i try to negotiate and have copyright assigned to us?

How to know what the right MVP is to release

    Posted: 13 Apr 2019 11:26 AM PDT

I am working on a new website monitor, sure has been done before lots but I think my ideas are a bit different and are something that I'd find useful in all of my previous SaaS businesses as well as what would have been nice at $DAYJOB when we were selecting one (I am a DevOps Specialist/SRE).

My idea is not set in stone fully yet (I am still building it) but I am wondering how I determine what features should be in part of my MVP. I know the idea a less is better but, there is going to be multiple parts to this product. I first started with the idea of just doing a better HTTP/HTTPS monitor then I went over my feature wishlist again and added some smallish things to the list. I have been reading the Google SRE book lately and found a few things in that and some new requirements at work, that I think would make my site much more useful and a better product.

The difference is about 4 weeks dev time since I can only work on it 2-4 hours a day. I'd like to release with just the HTTP(S) monitoring and the better alerting methods but the other ideas make me think it will be easier to get first adopters.

This is my 3rd SaaS and I have a 50% success rate out of the first two. First being a complete flop because I didn't have enough features to make it useful and then second went awesome and grew quickly to where I sold it 16 months after release. I built that one fully out to what I imagined minus 2 features that were out less than 3 weeks later.

I'm conflicted as to what to do... Do I build it to what I think will grow quicker or do I release then add on as time goes hoping I didn't release with not enough?

[Feedback] Identity verification service, marketing options, and pricing.

    Posted: 13 Apr 2019 10:24 AM PDT

As a freelancer, I often hire other freelancer's to help with overflow. My issue has always been that I never know for sure if the person on the other end is who they say they are, and then it becomes a liability issue.

To try and remedy that, I created a small web service that does identity validation (US only) to help mitigate the liability. It works like this:

    • On the site, the person doing the hiring enters their email address, the email address of the person they want to hire, and then they pay for the verification.
    • The person being hired is sent a link via email that takes them to a page on the website where they enter their name, birth date, and SSN.
    • The website goes out and finds public data and creates a validation set where the person being hired has to select past addresses, phone numbers, and relatives from random data in the validation set.
    • The website then sends the person doing the hiring a composite score based on number of correct selections - no personal data is included in the report other than the name of the person being validated.

I'm trying to determine how to market, and a price point. I've considered the pros and cons of the typical social media campaigns, and wonder what other people think.

    THanks

    LLC in NJ or NY

    Posted: 13 Apr 2019 10:00 AM PDT

I've started a financial blog, and long-term I plan to use it to sell merch, books and other minor financial services.

I currently live in New Jersey, but spend a lot of time in New York City; I plan to do most of my business (minor financial services) in NYC as well.

Where should I file my LLC? Does it really matter? I have an address I can use in NYC as well.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Need help building a Shopify store

    Posted: 13 Apr 2019 08:22 AM PDT

I already have a pretty solid locally based business and am ready to get into 2019 with a Shopify store. But I just don't seem to be able to find the time to get it started. What's the best way to get it moving. I already have a website that gets plenty of traffic and I believe I'll be making sales at launch. The idea of building a store and filling out the inventory seem daunting. 99% of the items could be drop shipped but I'm not opposed to holding onto some inventory and shipping it myself. Any advice is appreciated

What do I do after I have a prototype?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 10:28 PM PDT

I'm not entirely sure if this is the place to ask this, but here goes! I have a working prototype of a really simple physical product. What do I do next? Do I worry about patents? Do I just manufacture the thing and sell it on Amazon?

My product is very simple, and novel in the way that its use is different than how it was originally intended, but basically with modifications to an existing product. For example, think of a trash can, but without a lid and used as a small jacuzzi. The materials are there, but with modifications and the use is much different than how it was intended.

    Thanks in advance!
