My father went to the ER this morning where we learned he not only has a heart condition but I discovered he has no heath insurance, HELP!

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 03:45 PM PDT

My father is 58 years old in Washington state. He collapsed this morning and was taken to the ER where we found out he has an atrial fibrillation and needs to see a cardiologist immediately. (No previous health conditions doesn't drink or smoke very fit) He lost his job in October and is now self employed but never got health insurance. I have been calling everywhere but keep being told he doesn't qualify for special enrollment and all open enrollment periods are closed.

Do we have any options here?! I'm in a bit of a state of panic please someone give me some advice.

New York Life Fast Track Management Program

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 01:41 AM PDT

    Hello all,

I recently graduated with an MBA and have an interview coming up for this position in the title.

Does anyone here have any experience with this program, or know about it?

In the job description it says, "Once you have met the program requirements, you'll be able to transition into management as an Associate Partner." however I was wondering if anyone knew what those program requirements are, and how attainable they are.

    Thanks.

First Car Accident. Car totaled. Other Driver At-Fault. Am I completely out a vehicle?

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 03:57 PM PDT

    Hi Reddit,

As the title says, my hubby and I got into our first car accident this past Thursday. We're okay, but this is our first time navigating car insurance claims and we're at a point where we have questions that need answering.

So, here are some quick facts:

    • The other driver T-boned us and is 100% at-fault. His insurance company has accepted liability.
    • The car is totaled. It's 5 years old and had 47k miles on it.
    • We had a little over $10k left on our auto loan.
    • Our car's estimated value before the accident was around $5k.
    • We have gap insurance.

The way I understand this is the at-fault driver's insurance will pay the lienholder the value of the car, and then the gap coverage will pay the lienholder the remaining balance of the loan.

My question is then... after the insurance pays our lienholder for the car, does that mean we get nothing? Are we just out a car and need to start from scratch with a new one? Is there such a thing as equity that can be paid out to put towards a new vehicle?

    Edit: We are in California.

Other car insurance refuses to pay for rental

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 05:07 PM PDT

So we got into an accident, the other driver is at fault. We knew this early on so as soon as the mechanic told us that our car is not driveable, we went and got a rental. But the mechanic could not start repairs until the insurance adjuster determined who is at fault. So we had to take out a rental for two weeks until they determined that it was their drivers fault. Then two weeks later they start repairs. I do not have car rental insurance through my company, and now this company is saying that they only will pay for the time that the vehicle is being repaired, and the two weeks where I rented the car while the vehicle was in the garage (but not being fixed) comes out of my pocket.

I am in California, is this legal?

Does anyone have any questions about business insurance?

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 01:46 PM PDT

All I seem to see on this thread is a bunch of issues with car, life or home insurance claims and/or prices.

Trying to mix up the topics a bit, does anyone have any business insurance related problems or questions?

I'm aware of some decent commercial guys following this thread, feel free to use us for a bit of free advice :)

    What are my options?

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 10:48 PM PDT

Someone drove his car into my car yesterday (100% his fault). According to him, has been in Australia one month and doesn't have money to pay for the car repairs. He wants to pay installments...i have a baby due very soon and need my car fixed asap. He says he has 3rd party liability insurance so i don't think that's any help? The damage to my car is approx 1200. Can someone tell me my options? I am trying to be reasonable but also this wasn't my fault. Thanks!

Someone filed a claim against my car insurance claiming I dinged their door

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 10:42 PM PDT

Received a call and an email from my car insurance company today. They say someone is claiming that I dinged their door in a parking lot. The representative said that they took pictures of me driving away.

Now I have no recollection of hitting anyone's car door and my car shows no sign of damage or paint scrapes. The other car owner certainly did not say anything to me about it at the time.

My insurer says they will send an adjuster to inspect my car. Is this something that I should be worried about?

Coverage C - Personal Property on a rental property

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 01:42 PM PDT

    Hi All,

I'm searching for new home owners insurance for my rental house, and my current policy has $62,500 coverage on Personal Property, but I can save $800 a year by switching to another policy with $34,000 coverage.

Since I am not living in the home personally, would this make a difference? This coverage is to protect the items inside the house, and since i'm not living there should I be concerned about the lower coverage?

    Thanks!

Guy driving under influence hits car behind me into mine.

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 09:07 PM PDT

Just happened two hours ago. I was on my way home from work and hit a construction zone so we slowed to a stop. I hear a smash then feel my car getting hit from behind.

The driver that hit the car behind me attempted to leave after exchanging information with myself and the other driver and merged directly into a construction vehicle.

State Police arrived and arrested him for a DUI.

My car doesn't have much damage at all, the rear bumper is slightly lower than it should be now but not loose. I don't carry collision because it is a 1999 vehicle.

Will his insurance pay to repair my bumper? Or am I at a loss because I don't have collision? I'm not sure because I wasn't the cause of the accident.

Any other advice is appreciated also. Thanks.

Filed a claim where the collision center found underlying damage to my car. Insurance said now they aren't paying for the damage. Underlying damage went unknown until this incident. How do I get my car back to the condition it was in?

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 11:47 AM PDT

Im sure this topic has been discussed before, however, im unable to find something close enough to my specific situation.

Other driver was deemed at fault, as my car was parked (appropriately in the lines, yes), and I was in the store at the time of the collision. Apparently she scraped my passenger side because "she didn't see my car". No biggie, $:&7 happens. My door, front bumper, grill, front fender, and inner skirt/fender have damages.

Once the $1400 claim was made and car delivered to a commission center, $5000 underlying damage was uncovered/discovered. From what the auto center told me over the phone, insurance company does not want to replace the damages underneath, because they are calling it pre-existing damages. I have pictures from the auto center now, and will be stopping by the collision center today, to ask questions and more info.

Ive only had the car since January 2018. Im very new at this and have never navigated this before.

My question is, if the other driver was at fault, and my car had no record of damages prior, how can I get my car back on the road again and not pay the extra $3600? I just want my car back scratched free and drivable.

Any suggestions for what questions to ask the collision center and the insurance company? Advice on how to deal with the response from insurance?

    Is geico really that bad?

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 07:00 PM PDT

Just tried to talk to my mom about my own policy so I brought up geico and she immediately went on a rant about how State Farm is #1 and geico won't be there if anything happens. She kept saying how it's so terrible and that she's been with state farm for 15+ years and geico can't compare.

Edit: I asked her if she has ever had geico before to make her believe this and she says no.

I'm an idiot, I didn't have insurance in the PNW

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 06:38 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

Quick backstory, I bought a car in November to my PNW home, had it shipped here and waited a few weeks to get registered. 3-4 weeks go by and I make time for DMV and have it registered. I take my sweet time shopping for full coverage insurance. Went with US SchmaySchmay. Turns out, shopping online for insurance can be costly. I sign up for auto payments but hit the save button, not the submit button. Ah well.

Driving home one day, traffic jam causes me to not see car at intersection. I had a stop sign, stopped and pulled out in front of a 2017 VW Golf. t-bones me. I make sure shes ok, look for insurance. Shit, dont have it. Call the insurance, tell me I hit save not submit, I'm not covered. I say sign me up that moment. Cops arrive, everyone exchanges info, I leave.

Fastr forward, I get a letter I'm not covered. No shit.

Now I received a letter from the other driver's insurance, Schmeico, and I owe them $11,6xx. I call and say I cant pay that much and offer around $5000. They tell me to call back the week after and put forth final offer. I call today and offer $4700.00. The guy tells me something about something, and the total is double the 11 grand, now up to $22,100. But his manager might approve the 4700.00 total. Now I've received this:

    Dear Mr. stupidmistake ,

As per our discussion earlier today, your $4700.00 settlement was approved. I have provided the pre-settlement letter and voided property release, you will receive the actual property release two weeks after payment clears.

Last step to finalize settlement is yours Sir, contact Schmeico Insurance as we discussed to confirm subrogation representation and then go line and secure the payment.

I provided our on line payment instructions.

I havent signed anything, but I want to know if I got lucky, or should I try to go lower? Any thoughts?

Thanks so much for your time!!

If the person I hit files a claim with their insurance but I pay the repair costs out of pocket, will it go on my CLUE report?

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 04:26 PM PDT

I tried to convince the person I hit that I would directly pay for their repair costs out of pocket, as I priced out my potential premium rates with an accident on my record and it would be more expensive over the long run for me to to file a claim with my insurance. However, they went ahead and filed a claim with their insurance company anyway, and said I could still pay their insurance company the repair costs directly instead of using my own insurance if I wanted. However, would the other insurance company report my involvement to CLUE? What if I can convince them to put their claim on hold and let me pay the body shop directly - is it too late at this point?

    Getting into UW from claims

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 04:12 PM PDT

I am leaving a claims position and am starting a entry level position in personal lines underwriting. Everything I read talks about moving from personal lines to commercial as soon as possible with automation and limited growth. I have a bachelors in business administration/ marketing if that matters.

From what I can tell I should learn what I can in personal lines and move on from there. CPCU and ARM certifications seem to be recommended heavily as well.

Is underwriting worth getting into and are there certifications that can help me stand out that won't cost me $1500 plus and 2 years of material?

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

    Car insurance issue

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 11:14 AM PDT

It got to paying with my card and they said the system has blocked it due to getting to many quotes. They are investigating it but they have told me a price so do they not have to honour it?

Car accident, not at fault, plus workmans comp

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 12:27 PM PDT

Odd situation here. I was working last week. I use my personal car for work (2005 Camry, runs well, or did). I work for the state of South Carolina. I was in a construction zone at a full stop due to traffic on a clear day. A 2006 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by a high school kid, plowed into the back of me at about 40 MPH. The other driver, probably on her phone, is at 100% fault. I had immediate pain in my neck after the accident and get taken via EMS to a regional hospital. They did a CT scan and the Nurse Practitioner said that I was fine, that I will have just pain and stiffness. This is the second whiplash injury I have had (first was in 2000). The hospital perscribed me Motrin. :/

Over the next few days, I have numbness in my shoulders and arms down to my finger tips occationally and a lot of neck pain/stiffness. I can't look up or at eye level without pain. My boss tells me to file a workman comp claim. I've been out of work for about a week now. I tried going in this morning but that was a mistake. The workmans comp Physicians Assistant I met with has me on light duty and has me scheduled for Physical Therapy/follow ups soon. They gave me more Motrin and a muscle relaxer for back spasms.

    My questions are:

    -Should I get an attorney?

-Should I see a specialist regarding the numbness? That could be nerve damage right?

-What will be done about my car? I think it's totalled but I can't afford a new car right now.

-Is it out of the question to ask for a little money for pain and suffering? Probably would help me get a new car.

-The other driver has the same insurance company as I do. Can I trust them to make me whole again?

-I don't think I will have enough coverage for my medical bills. I have somewhat minimalist coverage. (Pay $65 a month for liability, no accidents/tickets in 20 years)

I'm somewhat ignorant when it comes to all this. Any help is appreciated!

    Car Insurance Claim Question.

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 11:28 AM PDT

I fully own my car and plan on doing repairs myself. Am I allowed to begin fixing my car before the claim is finished being investigated? It's hard living without a car and I plan on making the repairs myself anyway. Is there any legal issues with this?

Car comprehensive and collision high? Should I remove them?

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 10:58 AM PDT

I bought a brand new car 3 years ago at around 25k. I got a bad speeding ticket so my rates when up but it should expire hopefully later this year. My comprehensive and collision is $83 and $683 per every 6 months for $1000 deductible. My cars value now is probably around $10k-$12k now and it's fully paid off. I'm in California, should I just drop my deductible or is it still worth it?

    car insurance didn’t go down?

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 10:15 AM PDT

    Im located in California.

I had a speeding ticket expire (39 months) months ago and it is not in my record anymore. I also completely own my car now (no leinholder). I still have one speeding ticket left on my record to expire later this year. I did get into an accident where I was 100% not at fault, and I worked directly with the other insurance company to get my car repaired.

I would have thought my rates would drop given I have one less speeding ticket on my record and I own the car. However, my price actually increased by $40? Should I ask them and give them a call or am I incorrect in that the price should've went down?
