My top picks for value investing

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 02:30 PM PDT

My style of investing goes for large returns so it takes a bit of risk. It is very similar to Warren Buffet's method though.

Invest in uranium and lithium mining companies as these two resources will soon be in high demand as a result of needing clean energy and electric cars.

Trump has expressed high interest in creatingmore nuclear energy sources. Uranium is also at a great price right now but is beginning to uptrend. As we transfer from coal and oil we will need new effecient energy sources. Uranium is one of these so it's extremely undervalued right now.

When solid state lithium batteries become widely available large companies will begin manufacturing electric cars, all of which need lithium. Lithium had a huge sell off recently, just don't be scared when you look at the charts. It's inevitable the demand for this will go way up.

These are my top picksof companies with good fundamentals, just make sure you do your own dd:

    Uranium: UUUU CCJ

    Lithium: ALB FMC

Treasury Yields Fall, Pulling Stocks Down

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 02:10 PM PDT

    Key Points

    • The financial sector was one of the sectors we were watching for a possible breakout.
    • Bank stocks rely on interest rates for profitability.
    • An extremely dovish Fed sent treasury yields to their lowest levels in a year.
    • Is the treasury market sending a warning to the stock market?

Read the blog with charts here: https://www.brtechnicals.com/treasury-yields-impact-financial-stocks-2/

Financial Stocks Fail to Clear Resistance

Earlier this week we were looking at the sectors testing their November highs. There were five sectors testing this important level. I believe it is important for some of these sectors to break that resistance level in order for the S&P 500 to continue moving higher (read the blog here).

Well, we have our first casualty thanks to a dovish Fed. The Federal Reserve has lowered their economic expectations, and has decided to be patient. They believe current monetary policy is at a neutral level, and they will wait for more information before hiking or cutting rates. Additionally, their balance sheet roll-off program will end in September. This is good news for stocks in general, but not so much for bank stocks.

Banks rely on the high interest rates to make a profit on loans. When interest rates are low, or the yield curve is flat or inverted, they are less profitable. You can see that their is generally a positive correlation between U.S. Treasury rates and Banks (top of the chart).

Well, Federal Reserve President Jerome Powell sent treasury yields to their lowest rates in a year, and it doesn't look like they will be stopping here.

    Treasury Yields

10-year treasury's next support is 2.3%. This is my new target since it broke a support at 2.63% (solid red line). Other treasury charts also show a bias to the downside as well.

Did you notice the 5-Year Treasury has a lower interest rate than the 2-Year? The yield curve is inverted between these two securities. Coupled with the fact there is still room for interest rates to fall, bank stocks look like they are going to have a tough time.

If the support for XLF at $25.50 fails, we could see the ETF fall to the "Trump Bump" support at $22. However, this is not my base case. The sector may be going through a repricing, but its not going to go into an earnings recession because of this. The ETF is more likely to bounce around in a range before climbing higher, assuming stocks in general continue to climb. But with interest rates moving like this, are bond investors signaling something?

Using the 10-Year Treasury as a Leading Indicator

Most investors believe the bond market leads the stock market. The original theory is that stocks are a risk asset, so when investors are willing to take risk they allocate to stocks. When investors are fearing the stock market, they sell stocks and buy bonds. This negative correlation has shifted since the turn of the millennium, but I think it is still something worth paying attention to.

The last two times the 10-Year Treasury dropped from its long-term trend line, stocks fell within months afterwards. So, does this mean stocks are in for another bear market?

There are a few things to consider when looking at this chart. First, interest rates have been held extremely low since the Great Recession. Second, there is much more liquidity in the economy, and this benefits stocks greatly.

I built this chart in October, and it looked like it was a good signal then, but stocks have since recovered. We will have to wait and see if this drop in interest rates leads to a bear market, or if this time it really is different.

What’s the next stock market “shark”?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 11:52 AM PDT

I thought of a stupid analogy the other day related to market panic that I will share with you now for no reason in particular: the morale is that the market only really sells off when something unforeseen scares investors. Identifiable threats are not important.

Market investors in this analogy are represented by a guy living alone on an island. He has to eat, so he grows crops on land (bonds) and also ventures out on a canoe in the ocean to catch fish (stocks).

Getting in the canoe to go out on the ocean to fish is more dangerous than eating the food he grows on land, but he succeeds in catching a fish 80% of the time. Occasionally, he'll get caught in a storm, which is life threatening, so he's always very careful about when to go fishing.

He records yearly weather patterns, strengthens his canoe to withstand large waves, and becomes well prepared for any storm event. If a storm is too rough, he can see it from miles away and avoids fishing on those days.

But, as time goes by, the man becomes less cautious. He fishes during storms and sometimes still catches fish. He begins to think he's mastered the ocean as he eats well for months on end.

Then one day on the ocean, in perfect weather conditions, he's hauling in a fish, and a shark twice the size of the canoe jumps out of the water, eating his fish write off the line and as if in slow motion makes eye contact with the man in the canoe while baring it's teeth as if to say "you're next".

This, of course, sends the man canoeing back to shore at blinding speed. Having nearly lost his life in terrible fashion, he vows to never fish again and to survive solely off the food grown on the island.

So the point is, only market sharks 🦈 can cause a real drop in the markets. Not brexit, trade, the Fed, earnings, etc. all those are just storms that can be seen from miles away.

For the last 3 months we have all become less cautious, and seem to have forgotten Q4 2018. I wonder, what is the next market shark that will send us all back to shore?

    Your favourite chip stock long-term?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 07:37 AM PDT

The article is pretty selfexpanatory- which of the chip producers you believe in the most in the long-term? I it is very hard for me to pick one at the moment, but if I had to I would choose AMD. Their management has really being executing very well lately and if they keep the same level of work they might have a very good upside in the future.

Brazil market--when do you think it will rebound?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 02:10 AM PDT

Brazil stock market is slumping like mad ( https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-03-27/brazil-s-foreign-investors-enjoying-a-case-of-i-told-you-so); foreign investors are pulling out in droves.

I find the market super volatile and frankly, under certain circumstances, it could be a fantastic trade.

How long do you think this downtrend will last?

What are your concerns about it? Or do you see an upside at this point?
