Posted: 02 Jan 2019 09:15 AM PST North Carolina: Lyft has pictures of his stained car with food strewn about. Looks like possible throw up, but in now way was caused by us. Also some of the throw up was on the seat we were sitting directly on... His car was already a mess when he arrived. We would be late to the ball drop if we had chosen another ride. We were in the car for 6 minutes and had a nice conversation. 24 hours later I was charged $100. What can or should I do? [link] [comments] |
Friend is lying to her now fiancé about being pregnant. Is this illegal? [GA] Posted: 02 Jan 2019 06:36 AM PST As the title states, my now former friend faked being pregnant to get her ex-boyfriend back. He left her a few weeks ago for another woman, and she ended up buying positive pregnancy tests off of Craigslist to convince him to come back. He did, and now he wants to "make things right" and get married before the fake baby is born. He ended up buying her a $1,500 engagement ring, paid for car repairs (he didn't want to risk the baby's safety with her car in the condition it was), and she is now convincing him to buy a house so they can settle down and start their family. I'm sure he has paid for other things as well. I don't know the extent of her plans, just that she told me in person (unfortunately no written proof) what she had done, and the things that he has done for her. On top of being morally wrong and her being a terrible human being, is this illegal? Could it be theft by deception? I'm working on a way to tell him anonymously as I'm one of a handful of people who knows. She is incredibly vindictive so I'm afraid of what she'll do if she knows it was me for sure. If she's willing to do something this awful to begin with, I worry about her retaliating and trying to destroy my business and personal life. I know there are only a few people for her to suspect, but I'd like to attempt to protect myself from anything. On top of the question of this being illegal, does anybody have any suggestions as to how I can anonymously tell him without having his phone number and him having no social media presence? He needs to know, but I have no idea as to how I can inform him. Edit: Found out last night where he works, and I'm on my way to leave a letter on his car. Apparently I'm one of five people that knows, so I'm sure narrowing it down to me won't be too hard, but it's worth the risk to make sure she doesn't do something even worse to keep up this charade. May be back with another question regarding libel/slander about my business if she does find out. If anybody else reads this, I do have another question. If he does attempt to sue her for the money that he's given her and he finds out that it was me that left the letter, will I be subpoenaed to speak to his lawyer to corroborate the story? Edit #2: I left the letter with one of his co-workers as he was on his lunch break and I had to get back to work myself. The letter was in a sealed envelope, and I told them it was private yet urgent. I informed him of what I had been told, wrote down the link to the Craigslist post where she purchased the tests (the woman is still selling them for $40 per test), and told him I was concerned about what she would do going further. Thanks everybody for your replies. I'm hoping she suffers some sort of repercussions for her actions. Edit #3: Mutual friend just called me and said she's freaking out because he's coming home immediately after work to talk instead of going to an appointment or something that he had scheduled. Apparently she's scared that he's going to break up with her, but hasn't been clued in as to why. She's thinking he might leave her for the other woman, and has apparently convinced herself that she's pregnant because she used the "he would really leave me and the baby" line, even though our mutual friend knows better. So I'm glad he knows, but I'm expecting a very angry text or call from her sometime within the next few hours. Just wanted to let everybody know what's going on, and thank you all for your advice and replies. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2019 02:29 AM PST So without giving away too much info. I will try to tell you everything. Let me start by saying I am so afraid that i will not receive justice for this. I was out in Texas for work. I was going to the gas station to get fuel before going to my jobsite. It was about 4 in the morning. I was in the front passenger seat. There was two more people in the vehicle. I owned the vehicle it was an old ford pickup. We approached a 4 way stop light heading south bound and the light was green so we continued on straight through at the posted speed limit which was 35mph. On the other side of the intersection was a semi truck hauling a flatbed trailer with no load on it. He was heading northbound. We both had green lights so we both drove into the intersection. The signs posted said "left turn yield on Green" and the semi truck had no turn signal on. So we assumed he was going straight. However at the last second when the truck was no more than 25 feet in front of us, he turned a sharp left directly in front of us, causing us to hit him head on. I shattered my hip, and my face went through the windshield. I was taken away in an ambulance and over the next 24 hours was transferred to 3 hospitals. I had to have major surgery on my hip, as well as my face. So a few days go by and we get the police report. It says the other guy was 100% at fault. But then we also find out that the guy does not work for the company whose logo is all over the truck. He had recently bought the truck off them. Like within the last week. The truck was not insured. Nor did he have a CDL. the guy was trying to pay cash to get the truck out of impound. But he didn't speak English so they wouldn't help him. My questions are, if this guy doesn't have insurance and disappears like everyone thinks he will. Would the company who sold him the truck be responsible. I mean I know when we sell old company trucks we have to take off all our DOT tags and the company logo because if something happened the company could get sued. Also isn't it negligence to sell someone a commercial rig, without making sure they have a CDL, or insurance. I mean you have to do background checks before you can sell a gun. A semi truck is 10x more dangerous. As of right now my medical bills are over 150k and climbing. My insurance doesn't want to do anything else for me, and they are trying to make me pay 50% of the debt. I can tell they are freaking out because there is no one for them to go after. Can I hold the company whose logo is on truck liable. What do I do from here. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2019 06:31 PM PST First post: https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/9hm58g/my_neighbor_falsely_believes_my_disabled_bil_was/ Second: https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/9pk5ur/update_my_neighbor_falsely_believes_my_disabled/ Third: https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/a6stos/update_unhappy_my_neighbor_falsely_believes_my/ Here's hoping this is my last one! Thank you again to everyone who has been so, so thoughtful and helpful and made good, kind suggestions even when I was in a total panic. Also, happy New Year! So, I texted back my landlord explaining as much of the situation as I could, and emphasizing that my brother in law had never photographed the kids and explaining the way the situation with my neighbor had played out. I heard back a couple days later and my landlord's answer was basically "thank you for the update, there's not much I can do with this for either of you." I also reached out to several friends and friends-of-friends who work in disability advocacy about how to best go about making the local cops aware of who my BIL is and his situation. A friend got me in contact with a woman who advocates for intellectually disabled people in legal situations and she and I have been talking a lot. We were going to take BIL to meet some officers in our local precinct Saturday, but my BIL got too anxious. I feel really bad about it, because I wasted some people's time and should have known BIL would be too tired to handle it well. We're gonna try to go back weekend after next and hopefully my husband will be able to come. We've also put a copy of my BIL's medic alert card on the back of his phone in a clear case and practiced how he should show it to people and when. It's a tough situation but we're faring forward. We're moving in June, so this particular person shouldn't be an issue for too very much longer. Thank you again, sincerely, to everyone here and in bestoflegaladvice who commented so thoughtfully and compassionately. Happy 2019 to all of you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2019 07:48 AM PST I recently got married and bought a co-op. In the move-in process I called the local cable company to setup service. Suddenly my bill goes up by alot, about $325.00 I call them about this and a bunch of other billing issues. They give me credit for somethings including the installation which was supposed to be free and the repair (cause the installation was badly done) but claim $325 was from an account from 10 years earlier. At first I was told it was unreturned equipment. They can't find record of cable box numbers then come back and say items were returned but charges were because I didn't cancel service. I say 'If I returned the equipment I couldn't use the service.' Then cable says I didn't cancel service correctly. We go back and forth again. Finally they say charges are from unpaid balance. I ask for verification of charges. Something beyond 'cause we say so'. They have limited records because of the age of account. They never sent any bills in the interim. I filed a complaint with FCC though I don't have any confidence in that agency. Today they turned off service even though the only outstanding balance is the amount in dispute. I can afford to pay and probably will but I'm just pissed off that cable can just pop up and say -"You owe from 10 years ago cause we say so! Nothing you can do about it!" Any suggestions would be appreciated. -sorry for the wall of words, just feeling livid. Edit 1: It's Optimum. I called the NY State Public Service Commission. They are willing to take the complaint and help me resolve this but said I should speak to a representative first since service was interrupted today. Spent my entire lunch break on hold. Going to try again after work. Edit 2: Can payment be held against me (like an admission of responsibility) as opposed to 'I just want service put back'? Is it that hard to sue cable company? Am I tilting at windmills? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2019 10:59 AM PST Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/a9rrjx/found_the_perfect_place_to_rent_but_lease/ We decided not to sign. Even though a lot of commenters pointed out the illegal clauses simply wouldn't be enforceable, the comments asking if we really wanted to sign a contract with landlords that are either shady or ignorant of landlord/tenants laws had the most weight. We did point out the clauses we had issues with, and the landlords said they've never rented out a place before and they were just using a lease they downloaded off the Internet. This conflicted with them previously stating we couldn't look at the place until the previous tenants moved out. I think, all around, it was a good decision to trust our gut. But good news! We found another place, almost as good, but with experienced landlords and an above-board lease. Thanks for everyone's advice! You probably saved us from a year of headache. [link] [comments] |
I thought I was moving into a smoke free building. It's definitely not. Can I break my lease? [MN] Posted: 02 Jan 2019 08:22 AM PST I moved into this apartment at the start of November. It clearly states in the lease that this is a non-smoking building, there is a non-smoking addendum on the lease. A couple weeks after I moved in I started noticing a smoke smell when I came home, most strongly on the first floor but also on the second (where my apartment is, and they're all separate units). I have texted the landlord and left voicemails for the past few weeks to no response. I'm truly not comfortable with secondhand smoke, I moved in under the impression that it was smoke free and do not wish to live here for the full year lease if the landlord can't do anything about this. What sort of recourse do I have here? I have proof that it's supposed to be smoke free, I signed the lease saying I wouldn't smoke, and now I'm clearly living in a building with smokers. Posted: 02 Jan 2019 11:57 AM PST I was on a 2 lane road a week ago (one lane going one way one lane the other) and a girl tried to pass me. She hit a car in the opposite lane, killing her and the driver on impact. Her mother is blasting my name all over her Facebook, calling me a murderer for her daughter crossing lanes and hitting someone. I'm worried about ramifications against me due to her saying these things. She said in a post she's going to "press charges" about 20 minutes ago. Am I somehow liable? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2019 12:20 AM PST Female, early 20s, VA I'm a college student living in a house with 3 other girls between the ages of 18-20. I'm friends with roommate A and B, but found roommate C on Facebook. Before going on holiday I told everyone to stay out of my room and to not use my private bathroom because the toilet is broken and I need to repair it because I want my deposit back on the house and usage of the bathroom would further damages beyond repair. While I'm away roommate A notices roommate C going in and out of my room and tells me and I gently remind roommate C not to because the toilet is broken. Roommate C says she pays rent so she can use which ever room/bathroom she wants. I'll be honest that made my blood boil and I told roommate C to "stay out of my fucking room" and further explained wanting the deposit back at the end of our lease. Roommate A locks my door for me which was originally left unlocked because roommate A and B have items in there they might need to retrieve on my month long trip out of country. The following day roommate A notices my door open and inspects the door and notices the lock on the door has been broken and the toilet hissing from someone using it and she has to do a temporary repair to stop it from overflowing. I'm livid so I call a friend to come to my house and install a padlock on my door. He installs the lock and it's up for a solid day. Roommate A notices the lock is broken and unscrewed out of the wall the following day. Roommate A and B says they notice some of my stuff is misplaced but they can't pinpoint if anything is missing or if my room was as trashed as it was before I left. I have no idea what to do. I feel so helpless, is there any legal action I can take on her? I've contacted my landlord and inquired what we could do but I'm not sure if they can do anything. Is this even illegal? My mother language isn't English and I'm unfamiliar with American justice system so my apologies! Edit: a word [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2019 04:57 PM PST I can't begin to explain how much pain I was in Saturday night into Sunday. Fortunately, my mom is a nurse and told me how to alleviate the pain overnight, which was not a pleasant process. I slept a couple hours and went back to the ER Sunday and after actually examining me, they quickly determined that I had a broken spine. I was immediately admitted and given the correct medication. The "constipation" was actually an impaction and his recommendation of laxatives made things infinitely worse. I have no intention of paying for my Saturday visit and am concerned about this doctor's incompetence. What are my next steps? Edit: I was driving my car, no other drivers involved. I accept responsibility. My concern is that this doctor, for whatever reason, did not properly examine me, and therefore prescribed a solution that exacerbated my condition, and missed a fractured T12 in the X-ray. Bonus edit: Sorry for the "no intention of paying my bill 😤" bit. That's not my style. I pay what I owe. I guess the bottom line (lol) is that this doctor fucked up and I have a few routes I could take. Thank you for the advice and for reading my gross story. [link] [comments] |
Going to class broke my ear [FL] Posted: 02 Jan 2019 06:57 AM PST This happened about a year and a half ago. I was attending one of my classes at a state university when the classroom speaker system glitched out and blasted a brief high pitched sound. About half the class heard it but it was high enough that the other half and the professor didn't. After class ended, I told the professor about the sound and he confirmed that he would let IT know what happened. The next class, it happened again. Ever since, I can hear that sound ringing in my ear whenever it's quiet or if I cover my ear (it only affected one ear, the one closest to the speaker in the classroom). The ringing drives me kind of crazy. It makes falling asleep more difficult and the fact the ringing gets louder when I'm tired or stressed almost causes a spiral. It also makes concentrating in quiet environments difficult, which sucks for school and exams. I went to an ENT doctor and he told me it is likely Tinnitus, and that it would either go away over time or I'm stuck with it for life. I'm afraid that it's looking like it's going to be the latter case. As luck would have it, half a year or so before the sound blasts, I had a hearing test done. I went to get a pair of those custom ear plugs made and they had a free hearing test slot open so I did it out of curiosity. After the ENT visit, I had another test done and there is a very small notch of hearing loss at the frequency level of the sound I never stop hearing. It isn't a big loss of hearing but it's something. I've learned to drown it out by using white noise in quiet environments, but I'm mad that going to class made me end up like this. I'm fairly certain that it was the second blast that caused the ringing, which happened after I told the professor about the sound issue. I don't know what I should do so I wanted your advice. If I need to get a lawyer, I don't even know what kind I would need to get. Is this a problem with the school? The audio equipment manufacturer? The professor? IT? Does the fact that it's a state school affect anything? Thanks in advance. Edit: missing words [link] [comments] |
[AZ] Sister in law suspended without pay because crazy employee found out she’s from Turkey Posted: 02 Jan 2019 07:57 AM PST Sister in law works for a large retail grocery store. Another employee found out she's from turkey (married to my brother in law who's a former US military when he was stationed in Germany) and went nuts on her. Apparently this woman is some racist shitbag in southern Arizona and went crazy when she found out she's Turkish and has Muslim heritage. She started being rude, gossiping, reporting her to management with false allegations. My SIl reports this to management and nothing happens for 24 hours. At the same time she finds out from a coworker this woman has been threatening to kill her. Then her boss calls her in and suspends her and this woman who threatened her. (Co worker reported it to boss) Scared, she called local police and reported the woman's threat. She's too scared to go back to work even if they let her, this other woman hasn't been fired. They aren't redditors and my BIL is on 100% disability from injuries in Iraq so I'm trying to help them. Legal Questions:
thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2019 01:15 AM PST Okay reddit, I really don't know what to do and I am so angry, it hurts. My girlfriend works as a server at a restaurant. She works graveyard shifts with her cook alone and it doesn't get too busy so it's usually them two by themselves. My girlfriend told me her cook keeps grabbing her ass and kissing her neck and forcing himself onto her and she tells him to stop and pushes him off. The first few times he handed her a hundred dollars to keep her quiet but after that she's told him no and that he needs to stop. The past few 2 weeks I have came in every night they work together to keep my eye on him. He always walks out of the restaurant mid shift when it isn't busy and drinks alcohol in his car, comes back in, and starts acting all weird towards my girlfriend. She tells me sometimes when I'm there he slaps her ass in the kitchen when I can't see but she told me not to say anything to keep her out of trouble. My girlfriend told me the cook has been having sex with two of the managers and he buys them shit all the time. Anyway, I was in there today and my girlfriend went in the back to go get something so I peeper my eye in through the kitchen window that goes out to the dining area and I saw him hugging her and she was trying to push him off of her but he wouldn't stop forcing himself onto her. When he went back outside to go drink more alcohol, I went out there to go talk to him to stop but before I could even get to him one of my girlfriend coworkers dragged me back inside. The manager came out (one of the one's having sex with the cook) and she told my girlfriend she was suspended and I had to leave even after my girlfriend told the manager it's because he kept touching her and I was only talking to him. So the managers are letting him get away with sexual assault, suspending my girlfriend because of my actions which took place outside of the restaurant and weren't even illegal. Is there anything I can do to get him in trouble and to also get the managers in trouble as well for letting him get away with it and unrightfully suspending my girlfriend? Please help reddit, I don't know what to do. This happened in California fyi. And on another note my girlfriends manager said she can't have a sick day off from work or she'd be suspended. My girlfriend hasn't missed a day of work at all, which if I am correct is not allowed by California Senate Bill 3. The day she has to come in sick all this shit happens. Is there anywhere I can report the management, like a state department or the company? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2019 07:46 AM PST Virginia New neighbors moved in a few months back. They have a very aggressive dog that often comes onto my mother's property. She has spoken to the owners but they claim the animal is aggressive (just territorial) but not a threat. The latest incident my mother got home while it was dark outside and as she was exiting her vehicle the dog began to growl and charge at her so she got back into her car. The dog proceeded to stand at the car door and growl more. She honked and the dog did not waiver. She had to resort to pulling up to her porch stairs and climbing over and exiting through the passenger side door and running inside. Animal control was emailed and made a visit. Neighbors did not answer the door. Animal control told mother that he could not do anything without seeing it happen besides taking a report that the animal is aggressive. He told her that if the animal is on her property she has the right to hit it, shoot it, or do whatever is necessary to protect herself. My mother loves animals and doesn't want to resort to harming the dog. I am going to purchase her pepper spray and hope that is sufficient in running the dog off. She owns a firearm but doesn't want to use it (understandably). She will be moving to her new home in 3-4 months. What is the best course of action to protect herself from legal ramifications if she does have to pepper spray or hurt the dog? Does anyone have experience dealing with a similar circumstance and if so what did you do to remedy the situation/protect yourself? [link] [comments] |
Roommate keeps leaving cat in her bathroom for days. Posted: 02 Jan 2019 09:22 AM PST Sorry if the flair is wrong. Let me know what to change it to if so. Also idk if this is even the right subreddit? Let me know. My roommate got a cat in late November. A couple weeks ago, she left her cat in the bathroom for 4 days. She left early morning on December 24th and came back around 8 PM on December 27th. The cat had no food or water by the 26th so we gave him some, but she got upset that we did. She also gets upset if we let him out without asking her. Now she's gone again. She left on December 31st (noonish) and has not come back yet. We do not know when she plans to come back. Her cat has no water and little food left and is meowing so hard he sounds horse just like last time. Is this legal? At what point is it considered animal abuse/neglect? Is there anything that can be done? His meowing is sad and loud enough to keep us up at night. We live in an apartment with thin walls so we've considered anonymously reporting the loud meowing. We really don't want her to know we reported it because we're all stuck in the lease with her until August. Edit: we live in Georgia, USA [link] [comments] |
[IL] I have an abandoned house/pet question Posted: 02 Jan 2019 05:03 AM PST First time poster here and I'm located in the great country of America in the even greater state of Illinois, kidding of course. Here's what's going on: My neighbor has slowly abandoned her house over the course of the last few months. It has no power or running water. About 3 months ago she left her door open, two separate times, so her dog could freely roam the neighborhood while she's gone. We got that dog help and animal control took it away. They left her a note as to where she can come get her dog, the dog never returned. Now, she's done the same thing with her cat by leaving a window open. It comes to my door to beg for food but runs back home as soon as I open the door. Not sure if the poor thing has claws but it can't weigh more than 7 or 8 pounds. So far in the last 2 hours it's gotten into a few fights in my backyard. My question is, can I go shut my neighbor's window once it's back inside without getting into trouble? And once the cat is inside will animal control be able to go get it? Thank you in advance! Edit: Animal control isn't open for another 3 hours, I tried calling them and the non-emergency police line. Neither helped me out much. If anyone has better ideas let me know! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2019 05:15 AM PST North Carolina So I'm in the Navy, on NYE I around 9PM I was on the local freeway (off base) and got pulled over for doing 60mph in a 55 zone. I've never once had a ticket for anything before, I've been driving since I was 17, currently I'm 25. Would it be smarter to just pay it off and eat the insurance raise or should I go to court over it? I know I was in the wrong by going a little extra faster and there's not really any excuse for it. Like I said I've never had a ticket before so I'm not sure what the process is or what the 'smarter' choice is. I thought there was a rule where if it's 5MPH over then it can get thrown out? Or am I mistaken [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2019 08:37 AM PST From January - July of 2018, I was renting a house with two other guys in which I held all the bills under my name (utilities, internet, gas, etc.). Thus, Spectrum (my old internet provider) would automatically make withdrawals from my bank account each month, and the other two guys would send me cash for their share. (Side note: Yes, I know it's not a good idea to allow companies to have the ability to make automatic withdrawals. This was the only bill I gave permission to do so, so of course, this happens to me.) In August of 2018, I moved houses, and thus transferred all the bills to one of my ex-roommate's names. Everything went smoothly with the transferring for August - October, but then in November, I noticed a $76 charge to my account from Time Warner Cable (Spectrum is one of their brands). I checked with my ex-roommate, and he said he also had the same charge made on his account. He's a good, honest guy, and I definitely believe him. Since his name is the one on the account, he's been the one who has had to deal with talking to Spectrum about this. Anyone who's dealt with large telecom customer service knows how much of a pain in the ass it can be, but after a month of talking with them, he got them to admit that they are completely at fault for this double charge. They then said they would send the money to my roommate, and he would then send the money to me. Well, they've missed three different deadlines that they set for themselves as to when the money would be in my ex-roommates account. Again, he's an honorable guy, and I do definitely trust his description of these events. At this point, it feels like they're never going to give me my money back. Is there any action I can take? Or am I at the mercy of the big bad telecom conglomerate? Apologies for a long description, but I just wanted to make sure I was clear on the details! Thanks so much for any pointers! [OHIO] Fired for discussing wages. Posted: 02 Jan 2019 09:34 AM PST Hi there! I am looking at speaking to a professional here soon but I would love to get some insight on the issue ASAP. I was fired by my employer (small plumbing company of maybe 40 people) for discussing my wages with another coworker. We were peers and I had recently received a raise. It was a horrible ordeal that was essentially an extended shouting match between me and my employer. He basically used personal insults to justify me not being deserving of a raise. My performance and attendance were fine and I have been with the company for 14 months and felt it was time for a merit increase. It was extremely heated but ultimately ended in me receiving an increase. A few days later a coworker was asking why we were arguing and I told him money. He asked if I got my raise and I said yes I got [a buck] or whatever and it was not worth the hassle. I get a phone call a few days later from my employer that lasted about two minutes and consisted of him asking if I told anyone what I made or that I received a raise. He began berating me and ultimately stated 'fuck you, you're fired, pack your shit and get off my jobsite' and hung up on me. I called him back to see if he'd like to have a reasonable conversation about the issue and he again hung up. I really don't wish to work in such an abusive environment again and I had been looking for a new job but I was not financially ready to leave my position. I am in a very tough spot now and I am wondering if there is anything I can do to let him know that it's not acceptable to treat people this way. [link] [comments] |
I lend her money and now she wants to sue me because i asked her to pay me back. Posted: 02 Jan 2019 10:53 AM PST My friend was in a financial crisis and I thought i was being a good person trying to help her out. She kept saying she was going to pay me back as soon as she got the money. Well, she has it now and i asked if she could pay me back. She then proceeded to tell me to make a breakdown of all the money transactions i sent to her, in a written letter. So i did. Now she's going crazy saying that she's gonna hire a lawyer and that document is not valid and that she's gonna write her own and if i want to get lawyers involved then she'll take me up on that. We live in Florida. Not sure about how the laws for that work here. Wtf is wrong with her. She wants to blame me for failing out of her medical program, even though she's a drunk and has an addiction to pills. That was her own fault, that she failed. So, what do I do now? It's not worth the hassle, i told her if she doesn't want to pay me back, fine. But to leave me alone. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2019 12:41 AM PST I work in New York and was scheduled to work 3am -11am. I came to the store at 3 and ended up waiting till 4am for my manager to come and open the store. He than tells me because I wasn't doing actual work he doesn't have to pay me. Is this legal? I was waiting outside during my scheduled time in the freezing cold, and was never notified to come in at a later time. Is there any recourse at all? Edit: now my manager who came late is saying she forgot to notify me to come in at 4 instead and is saying that they most likely wont pay me for the hour I waited and will actually write me up for it if I clock that hour in. Can they do that? Also the only evidence I have is a pic of my schedule and 2 coworker witnesses [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2019 09:11 AM PST I am currently going through a separation. During the separation, my spouse had my family threaten me so I would sign paperwork to receive financial support (I never had to sign paper-work, there's a law stating I am supposed to receive financial support), I was sent cum rags in the mail, and I was put into multiple federal investigations due to my spouse distributing FOUO (For official use only documents) where I was put into a recorded environment and forced to deliberate for hours on end. After all of this occurred, I tried contacting the military to get a restraining/no-contact order put into play but there's no address it too. What do you do, when you're abuser has no address and you can't serve them court orders for abuse? I can't serve my abuser and I can't do anything for legal recourse because when the abuser is active duty navy, there's no address you can send paper-work too and have them served. I have no idea what to do and after being abused for months on end, I'm not seeing any lights at the end of the tunnel. [link] [comments] |
Before winter break, teacher took my phone until winter break is over. Posted: 02 Jan 2019 03:02 AM PST Thats from Dec 21 to Jan 7. What should I do? Is this even legal?? I am just a high school student and I don't know much about legal stuff. But this kind of thing with teachers and taking away cell phones is in a big grey area. Police Want Me to Take a Lie Detector Test Posted: 01 Jan 2019 09:57 PM PST I find myself in a situation I never thought I would find myself in, and I need some advice because I've been told different things by people I trust and I don't know what to do. Backstory is- I work for a company, and money was stolen (being vague on purpose). The company did an internal investigation, and when they couldn't figure out who did it, they turned the investigation over to the local police. Police have been interviewing anyone who could have had access to money and asking if they would be willing to take a lie detector test. If they say yes, they administer a lie detector test. If they say no, the police will try and convince them that it is suspicious not to take a lie detector test, and that if they had nothing to hide they would do it. On one hand I want to refuse because I consider lie detectors to be bunk science and because I don't trust the police. On the other hand, I don't want to appear to be uncooperative with the investigation or appear like I have anything to hide. Very strange, never had to deal with anything like this and unsure what to do. [link] [comments] |
