Merry Xmas! S&P On Track To Knock Out Second Year Of Gains. Posted: 24 Dec 2018 06:48 AM PST S&P has wiped out all of 2018 gains but is now angling to also get rid of 2017 as well. Only another 6 percent to go. Crazy times good luck everyone! [link] [comments] |
How much have you invested in the stock market? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 01:26 AM PST I'm 30 years old and had 73k USD invested. That's 50% of my savings. A negative 25% in 1st year in the market was kinda a wakeup call to me. Just wondering if I've invested too much and too fast in the stock market. How old are you and how much have you invested? —— Edit: Young (below 30) people with high net worth (>200k usd), people are curious about how you accumulated wealth? Care to share? Why The Odds Of A Rebound In The SP500 Are Increasing Posted: 24 Dec 2018 11:33 AM PST Hello again investors. Most people missed my first thread earlier this year about how the NASDAQ was too far stretched beyond equilibrium and the odds of a crash were increasing. That post is linked below. Why The Odds Of A Crash in The Nasdaq Are Increasing The good news (or the bad news) is that we have finally reverted back to equilibrium prices. I've pretty much been in cash since October but now I think we are close to levels where the rewards outweigh the risks again. SP500 is officially in a bear market now. The easy money of buying ever dip is over as the market moves from momentum investing back to value investing. As panic sets in and investors lose confidence, we are nearing a key technical level that should serve as support for a short term rally.
What is that key technical level? It's the 200 week moving average.
As you can see, from 2007-2008 and 2010-2012 charts, the market usually bounces back to the 50 week moving average a couple of months after hitting the 200 week moving average. Bear market rallies have strong counter trend rallies so even if the market rallies back to 270 in a couple of months, the overall trend is still bearish. Pick fundamentally strong stocks that are near their 200 week moving average. Avoid the rest. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Dec 2018 07:22 AM PST What is your price on a stock that you would not think twice before buying it??? For me NVDA at $90-$100 is a slam dunk buy. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Dec 2018 12:16 PM PST I bought at $68 when it was dipping. Now I am holding 80 shares at $50. The rest of my portfolio is going into red but this is the only stock that is crashing faster. I did my Tech Analysis and valuation before purchasing, and with the current bear-ish sentiment from some investors, I can see why it keeps falling. Anyone else here own SQ? Are you holding, buying or selling? [link] [comments] |
Index fund vs mutual fund when looking at a long-term ROTH IRA? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 12:06 PM PST Not sure if this belongs here but I'm 20 y/o looking to open a ROTH IRA account that I can just invest in and forget about over the years. Wondering if it's better to purchase index or mutual funds? Looking at Vanguard to open my account. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Dec 2018 11:12 AM PST I want to invest in AMD because it's main competitor Intel was number one in CPUs for most of the 2000s but AMDs new line of ryzen processors have topped Intel in performance and price. AMD also makes GPUs to compete with Nvidia and AMD has been number two in this area too. A reputable tech insider has predicted multiple things about Nvidia and AMD in the past couple years. He predicts they will release a new GPU and CPU line that will be have the price of their competitors and way higher performance. Other reputable people have listed slightly higher prices and lower specs that won't blow Intel and Nvidia out of the water but will definitely guarantee a number one spot but not by a long shot. Back to the original question should I invest in AMD? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Dec 2018 06:08 AM PST Is this a good time to invest in Amazon ($1354) and the s&p 500? (SPY $240) Opinions? [link] [comments] |
At what price would you buy into Alphabet? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 01:45 PM PST Considering Google's potential I think the stock is a buy right now, but this market is unlike what I've seen before and I find it hard to discern if the market will keep dropping due to general uncertainty. I'm thinking of buying in when Google hits around 800, or is that too greedy? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Dec 2018 01:28 PM PST Zoom will likely IPO next year. It's a company I'd through all my savings into. What are your thoughts around the stock and product. Product wise they have one of the most universally loved enterprise products out there, which is very rare. [link] [comments] |
Is it a dumb idea to take realized losses for tax purposes? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 01:23 PM PST Today i had a thought, if i sell some of my stocks off for a loss before year end, would it be beneficial for my tax filing? I am a simple man, i get a w-2 and buy stocks, other than that my taxes should be simple, i just don't understand how capital losses are equated into my income. Anyone care to give me an eli5? Please and thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Dec 2018 07:04 AM PST I plan to make my first stock investment into these two, I think they have nice potential to grow, especially JD. What do you think? Should I invest now? I have 1000$ [link] [comments] |
Western Digital. Good Dividend and P/E Ratio. But this big dip back down to multi-year support? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 08:29 AM PST Western Digital is a major tech provider with exposure to both Flash and HDD storage. A .50c/quarter dividend. A low P/E of 5.5 and currently trading at a price that was support in 2016 and 2012. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Dec 2018 11:53 AM PST Anyone know what happened that caused a 22% drop on no news? Seems unusual for a massive company [link] [comments] |
Why are Natural gas companies down so much ??? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 11:51 AM PST Can someone explain to me what the fuck is going on with natural gas producers right now. I get oil hasn't been doing well but the price of Nat gas has almost doubled this year and as we go into December more natural gas should be needed. But still the entire sector seems to be down and not by a little bit but by a lot. I can't rap my head around why. If someone could explain it to an idiot like me I'd appreciate it. Posted: 24 Dec 2018 11:26 AM PST I don't typically play with stocks and don't know much about stocks but I've always wondered, whenever the US starts these trade wars with China wouldn't it be good to short soybean stocks? And if the trade war was to end would it then be a good idea to buy stocks in soybeans? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Dec 2018 11:08 AM PST I'm over this. Had them for 5 years and they've done jack shit. Down almost 20% in 1 week. everything else has doubled while the mouse thumb its asshole. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Dec 2018 11:33 PM PST Hi all, Not sure if this is a good spot for this question. Just for some precursor on my own knowledge I dabble very lightly in buying/selling shares on the app that shall not be named, so nooby would be too good of a term for me. (I apologize for the TLDR) Now for the question, i recently became eligible for the employee stock option program at work for hitting my 5 year mark. I received a very short email from a VP stating "congratulations you have been awarded 400 options for 2018, strike price of $44.61" I followed up with my manager as to what this means for me and was told: " Essentially this is a vesting option which means you get 25% of the total vested every year and after 4 years all the options are yours. Ideally you want the stock to go up because before the options expire you would cash in (i.e. buy at 44.61 and sell at a hopefully higher price, you pocket the difference.) " I was initially under the impression that i just had 400 opportunities to purchase shares at a lesser price (if the share price went higher then the strike price) But i fail to understand what is the 25% total vested every year and after 4 years all the options are yours part. Am i setting something up to come out of my check toward this, is there something going toward this out of company pocket? Do i not get all the 400 options now and its split over 4 years, do i expect more options the following year? should i just go to HR and look like a total moron asking a bunch of silly questions? thanks for all your time and sorry again for the TLDR [link] [comments] |
Help me out: how does US national debt effect stock market (in the future)? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 10:05 AM PST I've been thinking about this since I asked a friend about investing in stocks. I asked him, what do you think about differsifying in stocks? He sent me a shit ton of literature about US national debt and was like "oh shit". For instance, what is the impact on the stock market in the future if US' national debt keeps rising (lets say, US goes broke). Does the stock market collapse? Do only US companies stock prices collapse? Is this whole story bullshit? I have no idea, what do you think? [link] [comments] |
Which days are the markets closed this week? Posted: 23 Dec 2018 08:13 PM PST Which days are the markets closed leading up to the New Year? I assume the markets are only closed on Christmas Day? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Dec 2018 07:31 PM PST So, it's been a pretty brutal couple of weeks. However, I feel like all the bad news is already out there. The US economy isn't near a recession and stocks are at a steep discount to where they were even a month ago. I am thinking of wading back in. Am I crazy? What's your plan? [link] [comments] |

Is it advisable to invest in gold at this time ? (JNUG, NUGT...etc) Posted: 23 Dec 2018 11:16 PM PST My understanding of market mouvements could be described as lacking, no doubt. If we're at the beginning of a bear market, gold would inversely rise in value, at least I think. Thoughts ? [link] [comments] |
