Stocks that are Rising/Falling And Why (20 December 2018) Posted: 20 Dec 2018 10:38 AM PST Each day I go through the top rising and falling stocks today, and look for (a) what the company actually does, and (b) why the stock is moving so much. Hopefully this saves you some digging! Below are my notes from 19 December 2018 as of mid-morning. (This list is limited to companies with market cap >$500 million, and also excludes VIX, short ETFs, etc, as these just reflect the market, rather than individual companies.)
Top News * Markets are still trying to digest the impact of higher interest rates, although the Fed's rate increase yesterday was widely expected. * Markets may also be concerned about a GOP/Trump-led government shutdown. The Senate has approved a stopgap spending bill to fund the government through February 8th, but House Republicans continue to debate whether to vote on the measure, which would push the border-wall debate into next year. * The U.S. Justice Department has also announced indictments accusing Chinese officials of coordinating an espionage campaign to steal intellectual property and other data from dozens of companies. The indictments are likely to contribute to tensions between China and the U.S. amidst the backdrop of a trade ware. [link] [comments]

In hindsight, the Dow growing 30% in 15ish months was probably always going to end in tears. Posted: 20 Dec 2018 12:29 PM PST I mean, outside of the words "Business Friendly President", there was really no logical reason, or fundamental reason, or economic for why the stocks had the rally they did last year. Even the tax-cuts were always likely to have a less than woweffect given the real world tax rates most big companies actually paid pre-2017. Anyway, at 24, I'll gladly take this sale on DJIA, thank the Man (missed out last year's bull run because, broke) and get back to living. [link] [comments]

Reason for gold price slump yesterday, and recoil today? Posted: 20 Dec 2018 12:00 PM PST Yesterday the price of gold took a big tumble on the fed news, and I was wondering if anyone know why that is. Shouldn't the news have affected the price posetively, as the dollar index slided alongside with it? And also, does anyone know the near 1% boost that gold has seen today? Building a Stock Portfolio (Longterm) Posted: 20 Dec 2018 05:44 PM PST I'm a 22 year old making about 50,000 a year. I plan on investing 50 dollars a week aside from the 50-60 a week I invest in my 401k. I plan on getting into real estate investing this year by way of fix and flips, so I would like to stay away from real estate stocks. I'm looking for help with a diverse portfolio that still has potential for good growth. So far I have VTI and QQQ. Don't have much knowledge on International or Bonds. High dividend stocks? Tell me what you guys think. Thank you! [link] [comments]

Where about do people get stock market information? Posted: 20 Dec 2018 07:44 PM PST I'm just beginning trading. I just want to know where people get their stats in the stock market. Web applications like FINVIZ; where does it get its information? I've seen traders with large screens and a bunch of weird graphs and numbers scattered around the place; where do those people get that data? I'm looking for sources that are real-time and swift. How does one start investing in stock? Posted: 20 Dec 2018 12:52 PM PST Please don't grill me for asking. I've always wanted to invest into stock but never known how or where to go. Is it as simple as making a account and logging in? If so, where could I do that? Or do I have to hire someone and they do all of the stock trading for me? I know little to nothing about this. Any guidance would greatly be appreciated. Thank You, [link] [comments]
Want to transfer my account from RH to Vanguard. Should I transfer the account or cash out/re-buy? Posted: 20 Dec 2018 12:47 PM PST In light of the recent RH shitshow and a desire to start putting more money into Vanguard funds, I'm considering moving my account. I have a handful of individuals stocks as well as some funds (most of which are Vanguard funds already). Is there anything I should be aware of when doing a full account transfer? I see that RH will charge me $75 and after a quick google, it doesn't seem like Vanguard will reimburse that. I plan on hanging on to the stocks I currently have for a while, but I looked into how selling them works with Vanguard. If I'm reading the info correctly, it looks like the first 25 transactions every year are $7 per trade. If that's true then I have no issue there. The other option would be to sell on RH and re-buy on Vanguard. I think I've been thinking about this incorrectly because in my head this seems like a bad move. Why would I sell now and potentially take a loss on some stocks, and then have less money to then invest in vanguard? Or does it balance out because while I'd be selling when the market is low now, I'll also be buying in at a low point? I figured I would want to hang on to those stocks until they're worth more, but maybe I'm an idiot. [link] [comments]

ETRADE: Loss due to technical error - Please Help Posted: 19 Dec 2018 10:51 PM PST I faced an issue while placing an after-hours trade on ETRADE on 12/12/2018. TLRD was announcing their earnings report at 4:15 P.M. EST and I wanted to close my position if things went south. And, things did go south but I was not able to sell the TLRD stocks due to a technical error on the ETRADE online platform. Here's exactly what happened -
I contacted ETRADE regarding this and I was told that "You were attempting to modify a regular session order into an extended hours order which isn't permitted." This, to me, looks like a bug - if such modification is not permitted, why provide the option for EXT session in the drop-down menu in the first place. For instance, Stop Limit, Trailing Stop, OCO etc. orders are not permitted in EXT session and the platform doesn't display this at all. I expect the same while modifying a regular session order i.e. don't provide an option for EXT. This will not mislead the users. Now, I'm not sure how to pursue this further. Do I contact ETRADE and let them know that I'm not satisfied with their dispute resolution and ask them to review again? Do I take the legal route or take the dispute to FINRA? This is a huge loss to me and I would appreciate any advice on this. Thanks. P.S. - Sorry, if this is not the correct sub-reddit for this post. It would be great if you can point me to the correct one. [link] [comments] |
