Posted: 20 Dec 2018 02:54 AM PST Hey guys so I just had a really basic question. I ended up signing up for Blue Cross and Blue Shield health insurance before the deadline but I've ran into an issue. They are wanting me to log into the site and make my first payment before my coverage starts next year. The problem with that is I haven't received my identification card yet and you need the number to sign in. The second problem i've ran into any this is making me kinda question it. When I type my log in into blue cross's website it takes me to a state that isn't my own. It takes me to blue cross and blue shield of Illinois and I dont know if this is normal or not. Thanks for any help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Dec 2018 11:50 PM PST So last year I was working for 501c3 non-profit. The pay covered bills but not much more, I was looking for a new career, and found auto damage appraisal. I live in MA and like a lot of other states appraisers have to be licensed. I did some research and found a local community college was running a class needed to take the licensing test. I took the course with no prior experience in the industry, upon completing the course I was eligible for the two part exam. I aced the first electronic test which was all multiple choice, took the written exam and passed that first try as well. I am now a licensed auto damage appraiser in the state of MA. Well I did all of this, but didn't do to much research about getting a job in the industry. I thought "Hey once I get licensed I should be able to find a job." Every job listed requires 3-5 years prior experience writing appraisals. I did all of this to try to provide a better life for myself and my family. I am wondering if there is anyone here who could offer some tips on how to get into the industry. I have applied to some of the bigger insurance companies and some of the smaller ones, but I do not posses the experience they are looking for. I have reached out to some body shops offering to do any job, even if it was just cleaning or hauling trash just to shadow their appraiser to try to get some experience that way. If anyone has some insight to offer it would greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Dec 2018 02:24 PM PST I escalated a water leak from the pipes on top of my parking spot 2 weeks ago to the HOA; the response was the root cause could not be determined. Two weeks later the pipe leaks again and now leaves water spots on the exterior of my car both at the front and the end. I escalated to HOA and asked them to provide me with their insurance information which they did by sending me the " EVIDENCE OF PROPERTY INSURANCE ". Now I have not been in this situation before; how do I go about filing a claim to get my car fixed? Do I literally just call the HOA insurance or do I need to go through my insurance initially? If so is this HO or Car insurance? [link] [comments] |
How do homeowner policies pay for items that aren’t in production any more? Posted: 20 Dec 2018 02:01 AM PST I was rereading the epic post from an adjusters perspective of what to do if your house burned down and it got me thinking how would I get paid out for something like my 60" Sony 3D TV if my house burned down or something. 3D TVs aren't in production any more so if I insisted on a "like kind and quality" replacement (a tv that plays a 3D blu Ray), how would the insurance company pay me for that? Assume I bought the tv in 2013 for around $1500. [link] [comments] |
Brand new car was rear-ended. How to go about collecting diminished value? Posted: 19 Dec 2018 08:34 AM PST Hello, hopefully this is the right place to ask this. I was read-ended yesterday in my brand new car (2019 Honda Civic Coupe) and have filed a claim to my insurance company. I am still waiting for them to call me back so I don't have repair estimates yet, but I was wondering how I should go about collecting diminished value? Do I need to pay a third party to do it? Is it even worth going through the hassle? I read it is quite difficult to go through diminished value claims. I live in California and I literally bought the car just this past weekend and it probably has less than 100 miles on it if that means anything. This is my first accident so I am pretty much clueless in what actions I should take. Any advice at all would be much appreciated! Also fun fact: the person who rear-ended me was my boss. What are "standard" long term disability questions? Posted: 19 Dec 2018 01:26 PM PST Background I work in the state of Texas. I applied for short term disability and was initially denied. After an appeals process, I have been notified via voicemail that my original claim was approved for the maximum allowable window. Long term disability benefits would then kick in, but in order to receive that, I need to answer some "standard" questions. I received this call from Matrix Absence Management, the third party that my employer uses to handle FMLA, short term disability, and long term disability. Before I call back, I'd like to know what "standard" questions I should be prepared for. Any "gotchas" I should consider? My experience being wrongfully denied initially has me wary. Thank you for any advice! [link] [comments] |
Who typically handles the insurance arrangement of a company? Posted: 19 Dec 2018 10:32 PM PST Hi Guys, Long time lurker here. I'm just wondering, which department or person of a company handles the insurance arrangement? Take an example of oil and gas company trying to erect a rig. Who is supposed to seek coverage for the construction risk from the company? Is it the project manager or head of department? or lower end staff? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
How long does an insurance claim take? Is there more I should do? Posted: 19 Dec 2018 07:58 PM PST This is a little lengthy sorry. My situation is a little special. I was on a road trip going home crossing the USA/Canadian border in Detroit and I was hit by a Canadian driver. I live in Wisconsin. I tried to make it back home, but my car started smoking in Gary Indiana of all places. I had to pay out of pocket to get it towed to my residence in Wisconsin since my insurance would not cover it (I don't have triple a either). I've contacted the insurance company (co-operators). They have provided me with a rental car, but they could not do it directly since Hertz is not a brand directly connected to them in Canada. I needed a car urgently. I could have gotten a car from Enterprise, but had to wait until Monday for my full coverage to be official. You need full coverage to rent with enterprise if you're under 21 apparently. I know I'm dumb to not have full coverage. Anyways I've sent the Co-Operators an email with all my receipts (the tow, lyft rides, and the rental car daily fee) this morning. No response yet. Oh and they also setup my car to get towed to the autoshop of my choice last Saturday. Now it's Wednesday. The shop contacted me today and gave me an estimate. They also notified me that they are still waiting on the insurance company to contact them. I contacted the insurance company. Said I should send an email to my adjuster. I sent the estimate amount around noon today. No response yet. Anyways, how long should this take? This is my first time dealing with car insurance. Did I do anything wrong? Is there more I should do? *From the estimate I got I'm sure the car is totaled. *Other info I forgot we filed a police report and the woman thankfully informed her company that she was at fault. She slammed her gas and reversed into me at a toll booth on a supposedly privately owned bridge. I contacted my insurance because I thought they should take care of the negotiating with the other party right? They were/are worthless. Another fun thing the officer gave me the wrong police report number yay! She forgot 1 digit. Good thing I checked and contacted the correct precinct to get that sorted out. [link] [comments] |

How to tell if I am covered under health insurance as a minor Posted: 19 Dec 2018 07:00 PM PST Hi, I'm 17 years old. My father says I am covered under Premera. Due to some circumstances, I was wondering if there was any way to confirm I am indeed covered? Thank you in advance. He refuses to show me my insurance card, and according to my therapy office, I am not covered under Premera right now and haven't been since 1/1/2018. He still insists I am covered, and I'm not sure if that is true and I'd like to verify. [link] [comments] |
Caught someone trying to launder money Posted: 19 Dec 2018 06:45 PM PST As an insurance agent I take phone calls everyday. This particular phone call was a operator who was on the computer with someone who was deaf. The named insured of the policy was trying to make a $5,000 payment to their insurance bill even though they didn't have any money owed for the next year! I informed them that the money would just be sent back in the form of a check after 90 days. To which they tried to change the distribution of the funds to be sent to a bank account. I stated it can only be sent through mail. So they had me change their mailing address. They continue to try and pay $5,000 even though I made sure they understood that they know nothing. I informed them this was a form of money laundering and didn't take the payment. They hung up. I don't even believe this was the name insured [link] [comments] |

Posted: 19 Dec 2018 06:07 PM PST Can an auto insurance company refuse to pay for a cosmetic repair to my vehicle because of previous cosmetic damage to my car? I was backed into, leaving a minor scrape on my bumper. I wanted to make sure the bumper's integrity wasn't compromised and that there was no damage to my engine (I drive a VW Beetle) so I filed a claim. After the other party's insurance company accepted 100% liability, I took the car to get an estimate. The body shop suggested bumper repairs. I emailed to schedule the repairs and the body shop told me that insurance says that because there are some large paint chips on my bumper they suggest that I pay out of pocket myself to just have my bumper replaced because the repair would be "difficult and not warrantable." Is that just code for "more expensive than we want to cover?" What I would prefer is that they would replace the bumper altogether because the other driver, in a much larger vehicle, hit me hard enough to break her own back bumper. The cosmetic damage is small but I still worry about the bumper being less effective in the future. Do I have a good argument here? It seems ridiculous that a company would suggest, after their insured hits me and they accept 100% liability, that I just replace my bumper at my own cost. I'm in Washington state. Is there such a thing as "temporary" insurance for something like an engagement ring? Posted: 19 Dec 2018 11:53 AM PST My girlfriend and I live together, and we share our homeowner's policy. I will wind up insuring the ring on that, but since she's the one who manages it, I need it to be a secret. We're flying on a vacation soon, where I'll be presenting her with the ring. Is there a way to insure this for just one month until I can place it on our regular HO policy? [link] [comments] |
Insurance totaling my car - help! Posted: 19 Dec 2018 07:04 AM PST I have an "enthusiast" car that I absolutely love and don't want to see totalled. A kid rear ended me and the damage was enough to be over that "threshold" of 75%. My car (1994 Mercedes E320 W124) which the body shop conveyed to the insurance company, is in excellent condition and like-new with only 30,000 miles. I babied this car and don't want the salvage title and to see it go. The $4700 they value it is extremely low-ball as even hagerty values this car by at least $5700 for an excellent condition model (which this is). The body shop estimated $3200 in damages. They said the threshold is 75 percent or over, then they total it. So, 3200 ÷ 4700 is 68 percent which isn't quite 75. I asked them about why they still totaled it if it's technically below the threshold and they said after repairs, the bill is usually over. I get the point but how can they anticipate this? Maybe it wouldn't go over the 75 percent after the repairs? Please help me, as I'm new to this and have never been in an accident. What are my options here and what is the likely outcome? Can I save this car and have it repaired? Thank you for taking the time for this, really appreciate it! Edit: I told Statefarm to re-evaluate the cars value and will be calling tomorrow for more info [link] [comments] |
[CA] Water heater broke 4 months after condo purchase - does this coverage seem right? Posted: 19 Dec 2018 11:56 AM PST 4 months after my home purchase my water heater (tank) broke and flooded my place and the neighbors place. I have Mercury home insurance with an addition for hartford steam boiler to cover water heater aspects. Current status is the following: - Mercury has been taking care of drying out my place including demolition and covering the neighbors costs - Mercury is sending a check for the repair work based on their estimate - Hartford steam boiler has declined any coverage given the water tank was from 2004 - I installed a tank less water heater at the cost of $6000 which I seem to be stuck with - I believe to have some coverage with American Home Shield; would this be applicable here - I tried to engage with insurance adjuster but they seem to exclude condo units Looking for advice on - Does the above coverage seem to make sense and I am indeed stuck entirely with the replacement cost - Is it a best practice to challenge the assess check for the repair work - Should i look into the American Home Shield coverage further? - Am i missing anything else Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Dec 2018 02:15 PM PST WA state Currently my husband and I are using the gecko company. He is military, so we get that discount, we have multi-car discount, and multi-policy discount (Homeowner's with Liberty). We are both 35, no collisions on the past 10 years, no claims in the past 7 years (if a tow is considered a claim), and no tickets at all in either of our driving history. Despite this, our rates keep climbing (went from $146/mo to $167/mo starting January. Our 6 month premium is friggin $996! We have a 2012 Chevy Cruze LTZ (remote start/On-Star/alarms/dash cam, front/side air bags, not financed) and a 2010 Chevy Silverado LTZ (remote start/On-Star/alarms/ front/rear dash cams, front/side air bags, financed with gap insurance through finance company). Policy level coverage: For others: -Bodily injury- $25,000/person- $50,000/occurence -Property damage $25,000/occurence For us: -Basic personal injury protection Option B -Underinsured motorist- $25,000/person $50,000/occurence Our coverage on both vehicles: -Comprehensive -Underinsured motorist property damage: $10,000 -Collision -Emergency roadside service Deductible- $1,000 (comprehensive/collision) I just feel like we are getting shafted, given our driving records. Does deductible carry over with a change of insurer? Posted: 19 Dec 2018 12:54 PM PST I'm planning to get some medical work done in early January, right after my deductible resets. Then, I'll be leaving my job and my insurance (TX) in February. If I spend, say, $1000 on medical care, when I buy my own insurance (MA) month, will the $1000 I've already spent be reflected against my new deductible? [link] [comments] |
Does car insurance go up if its not your fault? Posted: 19 Dec 2018 12:36 PM PST Just got into two accidents this week. One was a little bump in the back when traffic wasnt moving, the guy wasnt paying attention and hit me, no big deal Second one was pretty devastating. I was driving straight and the guy makes a left and I crash into him with no time to react. Hopefully I can prove my innocence and thankfully there were two witnesses to help prove me innocent. They were right behind me when it happened. Damages are at least $1000+ my front is a mess. So if it's not my fault, does insurance go up? But if it does despite it not being my fault, on average how much would it go up? [link] [comments] |
Car side swiped in the middle of night. Posted: 19 Dec 2018 11:57 AM PST I already talked to insurance adjuster and the vehicle will be totaled but they are giving me 750 less then the actual cash value (kbb says 3400~, they are saying 2650) Can I negotiate that as well as the buy back price? They want 800 but I'd be willing to do 400. 03 acura rsx 203k miles with hitch (120) and aftermarket radio (350) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Dec 2018 09:38 AM PST State is Ohio, insurance company is progressive. I paid the first months payment with credit card over the phone. I have never had a a cancellation fee for a policy before and I don't want one. He is now telling me that now its too late since he already bound the policy. I didn't sign the electronic contract that he sent me that had the $50 cancellation fee because I don't agree to it. What are my options for cancelling the policy? He is saying its too late. Posted: 19 Dec 2018 09:35 AM PST Hi, title says it all. So I accidentally rear ended someone and we said I'll pay by cash and that I was saving up. 2 months later he decided to finally file a police report, but the police doesn't know who did it. He also did this behind my back and now he's asking for all my information (car insurance, drivers license etc.) He's also saying he has video proof of me but doesn't want to show me? Im low on money right now and the last thing I want to happen is my insurance premium going up. I live in Ontario btw. Thanks [link] [comments] |
