Oh man! Started my new sales job not doing so hot but I stuck with the process, read a bunch of tips and tricks on here and stayed the course to a successful quarter end. I mainly used this forum to keep my hopes high and my eye focused on the prize while trying to distract from the bad start.

This month ended better than I ever could have imagined and same with the quarter. This subreddit has been invaluable in keeping me sane and helping with the right tools to keep improving my sales. Still have a ton to learn but will stay right here to help do that :).

Our Sales Staff is about to go on strike and I'm just like "I'm out yall"

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 10:36 AM PDT

Work for a good size company right now (Although I got other job offer, just waiting to start) long story short our CEO is requiring all sales staff to install GPS monitoring device on our ipads so they can track where we go during the day and match it up with our activity in the CRM. Whole company is blowing up, sales reps are refusing to come to work managers are saying they are going fire everybody and I'm just like "Eh I don't really give a fuck"

Plus I'm out on workers comp, so I'm not even affected yet. But boy o boy does this reinforce my decision to leave.

Then my boss sent me a text "Really glad you aren't involved in all of this, look forward to you coming back to work" he's going get a surprise in a few weeks when I come back and quit.

What % of income should or does go to front line sales execs (UK)

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 09:36 AM PDT

I was recently promoted to front line sales for an insurance broker. I got an okay package and can renegotiate each year but I'm not sure what I should be aiming for.

I bring in around 120k income mix new business and renewals. I have a company car, basic of 25k and around 7k in annual bonus of I meet target.

This seems reasonable to me but I expect to earn more as a progress.. Wondering whether anyone can enlighten me as to what's normal, if for instance I'm brining in 260k could I expect double the salary? Obviously there is a whole team of account handlers, marketing guys, directors etc etc that also get paid out of what I bring in. When you start adding it up it doesn't seem that much is left for pure profit. How much would a business usually look to make?

    Questioning my current postion

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 09:53 AM PDT

So ill try to make this short. I've worked for my current company for 6 months. My current company is known for been pretty unethical in the market place. Its a heavy split, either people love us or totally hate us.

Now that being said, my metrics are above the target for everything. A couple of the months I've worked here I've been the top guy in my branch.

But we have a payment program that is definitely not in the best interest of the customer. You can purchase or finance the product or you can lease it and the leasing is skewed heavily in favour of the company. To add to this, it is our mostly heavily valued metric, sometimes even more important than volume. We are also heavily pushed for google reviews so that we can combat all of the bad reviews from customer who have a bad taste.

I should be pushing more on the leasing but i just cant ethically. Its outrageous. That being said this job pays amazingly. I've been here for 6 months and already made 75k this being my first ever sales job, should i just suck it up and push harder for the leasing aspect? Learn to get right with it in my head because its such a great opportunity for myself.

My past experience - i ran a construction company for 3 years "selling" for myself. Never worked strictly commission although, i do have a knack for it, and im extremely hard working.

    How’s everyone’s Q3 looking?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 07:08 AM PDT

I'm new at my company selling SaaS to large companies, it's way harder than I expected. Full cycle so I do all my own prospecting/closing.

My quota is 6 deals/quarter and I don't even think I have 3 opportunities right now, yikes.

    How y'all looking?

How do I build my customer base.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 12:37 AM PDT

Gonna be short and sweet. I've tried promotions, I've tried free assessments, I've tried email campaigns, I've tried LinkedIn messages. I've tried partnerships and I've tried calling.

Does anyone have any other advice on how to grow a non existent customer base for an IT SERVICES company? We specialize in data management and security software.

    Priorities revenue/KPIs

    Posted: 30 Sep 2018 10:52 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I've worked in sales for about 5 years, the last 3 in B2B sales. First time poster in this sub I believe!

I recently got a new commission model where I need to have a certain amount of meetings to even be paid my commission. My understanding has always been that the most important thing is the revenue I'm contributing to the company (on budget as of now).

What is your view? What's most important?

What's a good nickname for me.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 05:56 AM PDT

Hi my name is Harsimran Singh (Har-sim-rin Sing),

I sometimes feel like my name gets in the way of me interacting with my clients when I'm trying to sell services. I'm wondering if you guys could help me brainstorm a nickname that closely resembles my name. For example my friend,Taranjot, shortened his name to T.J.

Rant: I hate MLMs who pretend they want to buy one of my products

    Posted: 30 Sep 2018 02:32 PM PDT

I sell new homes for a builder and this older guy came in with his grandson. Said the grandson was looking to buy instead of renting. Wants to teach him how to become rich. The grandpa was a smooth talker and almost immediately it felt like I was in a job interview, he was asking me where I was from, how long I have been doing this for. Whenever I tried to dig more into what the grandson was looking for it usually quickly ended and went back to asking me more personal questions about myself. He asked me where my parents were from which just felt very weird and out of place. I even called him out on it quite early when he asked me a bunch of questions I said "sounds like you're in sales too" which stunned him.

Anyways the whole time the meeting was less about finding the grandson a home and more about me and who I am. Then at the end of it all he said he wanted to take me for coffee because "you need to build assets"

And that was the nail in the coffin that made me realize I just wasted all my time.

Edit 1: when I told him it sounded like he was in sales too he proceeded to hint towards wealth and made money via network marketing or something.

Hi everyone. I'm about to graduate college and I'm going to work for a commercial bank focused on middle market loans. I'll be a credit analyst for 2 years and then go into a lender role, but I'd like to start preparing now by reading books on selling. Thank you for any suggestions!

Thinking about my happiness vs. my paycheck

    Posted: 30 Sep 2018 01:13 PM PDT

Ok, so maybe this is the right sub, but please let me know if it isn't.

I'm currently in B2C sales in a niche market (medical, genetics, etc) at the top of my sales team. Making about $100k OTE and work in an office on the phone +/- 50 hrs a week. I enjoy the money more than the work.

My SO has recently gotten sober and will be home from inpatient recovery soon (so proud of her). Her sobriety and my attending a 3 day workshop at the recovery center has made me re-think what I find important in life. My main focus has always been money and our future and have sacrificed a lot to get where I am.

I want to be happier and make more time to explore what makes me happy, but all of my experience is in B2C sales in some way. Retail, outside, inside, etc. My skills are sales obviously, can but also include natural ability for marketing, training, process improvements/six sigma (not certified, but someone told me my mind already works like they teach).

My question is: where can I go from here?

I know that's a really broad question, but maybe, just maybe, someone can tell me where they went from sales to be more satisfied and overall happier.

    Posted: 30 Sep 2018 08:58 PM PDT

Can anyone tell me what companies have stuff or services that sell to these folks, or rather that these companies rely on extensively to conduct their business?

Take a glance at this list below:

    Bank of America Leasing

    Bank of the West

    BB&T Bank

    BMO Harris Equipment Finance

    Canon Financial Services

    Caterpillar Financial Services

    CIT

    Citizens Asset Finance

    Dell Financial Services

    DLL

    EverBank Commercial Finance

    Fifth Third Equipment Finance

First American Equipment Finance, a City National Bank Company

    Frost Bank

    GreatAmerica Financial Services

    Hitachi Credit America

    Huntington Equipment Finance

    John Deere Financial

    Key Equipment Finance

    LEAF Commercial Capital Inc.

    M&T Bank

    Marlin Leasing

    Merchants Bank Equipment Finance

    PNC Equipment Finance

    SG Equipment Finance

    Siemens Financial Services

    Stearns Bank

    Stonebriar Commercial Finance

    TCF Equipment Finance

    TD Equipment Finance

    US Bancorp Equipment Finance

    Volvo Financial Services

    Wells Fargo Equipment Finance

Any ideas? Like what sales guy that has something these guys want, that would be excited to be in the same room with their VIPs?

    Many thanks.

How do you approach price increases?

My company is pushing us to increase rates on existing customers that haven't had their rate reviewed in years. How do you approach this without pissing off the customer?

College grad in need of interview advice!

    Posted: 30 Sep 2018 02:35 PM PDT

Hi everyone! I've been lurking this sub for awhile now, and the information on here has been a huge help to me as I've begun entering the workforce. I have an interview for an entry-level sales role at a tech startup tomorrow, and I was hoping to get some advice.

For background, I just graduated from UNC-CH where I studied Media and Journalism with a concentration in PR, political science, and a minor in business journalism. I have had a bunch of great internships throughout college but all were essentially marketing focused. I really enjoy marketing and initially was what I planned to go into, but after working this summer where I shadowed several sales reps and execs at a startup, I realized I like the goal-setting/gratification part of sales and I think I would flourish in a more competitive, challenging and fast-paced environment that it offers.

I have had two interviews so far with this company and they have gone well, but the guy I'm interviewing with tomorrow would potentially be my boss so I really want to make a good impression. I've ran into the question of why I am switching to sales-focused positions as opposed to marketing, and I would love some advice on how to effectively frame it. Additionally, when I'm nervous I can ramble and talk waaay too much, so tips on staying calm and collected would be great too :) The interview is via Skype.

    Thanks in advance.

    Mortgage Loan Originator advice

    Posted: 30 Sep 2018 02:16 PM PDT

I just got a job as Mortgage Loan Originator for a rather large mortgage company in my area. They have a large market share and I have been working on the secondary/capital markets side of the company for 3 years. So I am very familiar with our margins, programs, and etc. A good portion of our sales staff all make over 6 figures and our higher producing reps making 250k-650k a year. I was wondering if anyone has had success in the field and has suggestions on how to get the sales funnel and production up and running faster. I have been networking my ass off in hopes of getting this job and have b/w 7-9 real estate agents who want to do business. I am trying to get as many deals as possible and any advice or tips are welcomed. I know this is pretty broad question but any advice is welcomed. Also any RE agents in VA or NC (where i currently hold licenses) that would like to network let me know.
