Elon Musk Mocks SEC, Calls for Short-Selling to Be Made Illegal

    Posted: 04 Oct 2018 10:13 PM PDT

"At the very the least, they can read the riot act to Musk's lawyer," said Stephen Crimmins, a former SEC enforcement lawyer who's now a partner at Murphy & McGovern. "Beyond that, if they feel he hasn't lived up to his deal, they can theoretically seek to pull the settlement."

    Can someone explain the dip?

    Posted: 05 Oct 2018 02:38 PM PDT

Can someone explain the dip that we have been seeing in the market the last two days? How does it relate to increased rates and the jobs numbers?

Thoughts on $CGC (Canopy Growth Corp)?

    Posted: 05 Oct 2018 04:29 PM PDT

In this one for the long haul. Seems like a pretty safe investment IMO, leader of the marijuana market, especially in Canada. They've got plans already to jump to the states once weed becomes federally legal here. So I'm holding onto my shares and plan on buying more over the following year or so.

Heard some crazy estimate that their shares could go as high as 35x of what they are now.

    Thought on SNAP?

    Posted: 05 Oct 2018 09:29 AM PDT

Fundamentally the company isn't that good, however im thinking if it reaches the $5-$6 range I might have to invest. The CEO has a new plan for profit in 2019 plus it's bound to pop, really oversold right now.

How do you organize your ideas?

    Posted: 05 Oct 2018 04:32 AM PDT

Do you use excel, pen and paper, etc... I'm looking for ideas to get more organized because I've been hurt by missing key pieces of information that I probably could've caught.

[History] any links or references suggesting that Nobel prize winner William F. Sharpe almost destroyed the United States Economy?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2018 08:28 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I'm just looking for reference to write history paper.

(What I know kind of) Context:

William F. Sharpe had a fund called "Long-Term Appreciation Capital"

Popular guy after pioneering Capital Asset theory

Many people wanted to invest with him

Had invested heavily in Asian Currency because he had thought it would go up.

Asian Financial Crisis occurs, his fund loses a lot of money, and the United States government needed to bail him out.

This should've been a red flag that the industry needed more regulation and for-shadowed the Financial Crisis of 07-09

    Nasdaq 100 is a bubble?

    Posted: 05 Oct 2018 12:08 AM PDT

Nasdaq 100 has been had the annual return of 27% (dividends excluded) since the top of 2008 and that was the height of the 2008 Bubble!

Anyone know what has caused this? Is there another bubble or are the tech giants value correctly right now based on their returns? Or is this valuation a prediction of future based on the belief that tech giant moats are invincible and the giants will gain massive returns based on their monopolies in the future?

I'm interested in the stock market in a very, very casual way. I would like to buy a small stock for fun and to learn. What is something I can buy for like, less than $10? What are good sources to learn from?

3x bull/bear stock funds - Anyone trade them regularly?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2018 10:06 PM PDT

I'm following different ones like UVXY and GUSH for example. I'm curious if anyone here consistently trades them, and what your basic strategies might be.

I had a little success shorting UVXY for a quick day trades in the past, but I'm curious of other people's strategies.

    Smallcap divergence....what gives?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2018 10:01 PM PDT

We have seen a significant rotation out of smallcap and into Nasdaq/S&P ever since the Fed meeting. It isn't clear to me what the rationale is for this strong a divergence. Perhaps the NAFTA deal? From my perspective, there isn't a whole lot that changed from NAFTA to USMCA, but it could be there was a premium given to smallcap associated with protectionist concerns that have dissipated a bit. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated
