Yes, drop-shipping actually works... but not that Chinese crap slash Shopify store voodoo! Posted: 02 Oct 2018 10:09 AM PDT The only form of drop-shipping that actually works, is not the magical turn-key kind. What I mean is, that you should have a no-crap business setup, with licenses and all, this way you can drop-ship high quality items to your customers in store and online. For instance, I don't actually stock any guns in my store, but when someone is looking for a gun, I give them the best price in town, they pay for it first, then I order it and sell it to them... drop-shipping that works my friend. Another big business that does it is Best Buy, because most of the stuff you see in their store isn't actually there, but they will gladly ship it to your door after you buy it, or you can pick it up in their store as soon as it arrives... now that's drop-shipping that actually works. All that Chinese made crap slash Shopify drop-shipping malarkey the gurus are spitting out doesn't actually work, hence the reason why they are selling you a course to do it... if it was as lucrative as they say why aren't they doing it? I started Internet Marketing at 14 - I now make 5 Figures a month off Instagram AMA Posted: 02 Oct 2018 11:53 AM PDT A little background on me, I have lurked on r/Entrepreneur a lot, but never contributed so I decided I would do an AMA, maybe I can help someone else who is looking to go forward. I began internet marketing in 2013. My first experience was creating a Minecraft server, and when I made a few hundred bucks I was enthralled with the idea of making money online. I fine tuned this little method and was making about $1,200 per month by 2014. Unfortunately at this time I contracted Lyme disease (unknowingly) and began a long and strenuous health journey. 2014-2017 I spent most of my life in bed. I had difficulty walking, eating, etc. I have no high-school diploma because of this. However this left me with lots of time to learn, just because I couldn't be in school I wouldn't let that stop me from growing knowledge. I began to focus all my time on Internet marketing and jumped around different methods, nothing I did was really satisfying to me until I found and settled in Instagram Marketing/Management. I found my ways of approaching problems and combination of information other people had shared to let me come up with my own unique approaches for Instagram growth, and quickly I found myself among a small group of well respected individuals in that community. (I did not dare tell anyone I had only really picked this up 6 weeks before then) By combining methods and learning from people who had more experience or connections I was able to grow my little Instagram empire and monetize some of my accounts, I wrote for an eBook on Instagram Growth and began to gain some recognition. People who buy that eBook can then access a private forum. I contributed to answering a lot of peoples questions there and then one day I got a private message that changed my whole approach to Instagram. A smaller time rapper approached me and asked if I would be willing to manage his account for $150 per month. I suddenly realized I could do this for a lot of people. I began marketing myself to local businesses. Fast forward almost two years and I am now 19. I have over 100 clients around the world, from local businesses, to international clothing companies, to Instagram Models and DJ's. I got my GED in August, and started at ASU's W.P. Carey School of Business. It's amazing how far you can come in life. Never give up on yourself or your dreams. A few basic questions/answers: "How much do you make" I make 5 Figures per month, I won't share all the exact numbers just for personal reasons. "Whats the most helpful book you have read" 80/20 Sales and Marketing - The Definitive Guide to Working Less and Making More by Perry Marshall One of the greatest gifts I ever received from a mentor of mine. It's time for the "Window Cleaning Guy's" 20th month update Posted: 01 Oct 2018 03:11 PM PDT Hi again everyone! I'm excited for this update because we have some awesome things going on. As always, AMA. For those that dont know my story you can see my very first post in this subreddit from about 20 months ago here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Entrepreneur/comments/5q7xsq/just_found_out_that_i_am_losing_my_job_with/ I've posted many updates that you can view by looking through my post history. The short version: I lost my corporate job and started a window cleaning company overnight just to pay the bills until I figured out what I was going to do. I quickly realized that there was real money to be made doing this so we (my son/business partner and I) just went for it. We added pressure washing about 5 months after starting and now do about 70% revenue from pressure washing. We did right at $140k in our first 12 months and are currently at $243k YTD with a goal of $400,000. The $400k goal doesn't look likely but I do think we will finish around $370 as we are going into our busy season here in Florida. Here are a few things that we are dealing with right now… Sales: We are gaining some big momentum here due to our continued improved online presence as well as the fact that we are heading into our busy season. We just had our best residential sales month with sales over $40k for September (I share my excitement about this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7h0LsNGAcYc&t=1s ). We only completed $28K as we sold a lot in the second half of the month and we didnt have our second crew up and going yet. We entered October with just over $20k already on the schedule. I'm planning on closing out $40k in Oct (wish me luck). These sales are very refreshing as we are just now coming out of our summer slump. I have been talking about getting a commercial space for a few months now. This has been a much more difficult task than I would have ever dreamed that it would be. The main issue that I have is my budget vs my needs and desired location. I THINK that we just found THE SPOT last Friday. I should know by the end of this week. Fingers crossed!!!!!! This space is in a great location and has all of the 'features' that I need and is within my budget. Staffing: My goal was to have my second truck on the road early/mid September. That did not happen. We will have the second truck on the road a week from today. I have two new techs that will be starting within two weeks (one is not 100% as we are anticipating a doctors release this week but there is no guarantee). I am VERY pleased with both of these new recruits. We have been very picky and meticulous during our search. We could have grown faster but we chose to grow slower than planned in order to get the right players in the right positions. We wont be adding any more techs until Q2 of 2019. I have an office admin in my plans for Q1 but am considering pulling the trigger now because I think that there will be a lot of value added with this person in our busy season (I'm not 100% on this decision yet). Equipment: This is probably my biggest struggle right now. Trucks and pressure washing equipment is expensive. Currently I have one truck with a loan and the other we paid cash for. I am not sure how I want to move forward with our next purchase in Q2. Since I am currently driving truck 2 I also need to get another vehicle for myself since truck 2 will be in the field next week. I still have some equipment to purchase to finalize the build for truck 2. Systems: I'm regularly working on systems (ala "The E Myth Revisited"). I have completed a few video training modules in a MLS system. I've got great scripts for my lead techs to use when interacting with customers during appointments, SOP's for our standard services offered, SOP's for basic equipment operation, SOP's for recruiting/hiring as well as other various admin tasks…I still have a LONG way to go in this department but I am very pleased with where I am at this stage of the game. This month I'm attending a 'business bootcamp' of sorts with 30 other business owners that are in similar industries. It will be an intense time being in a group with a business coach/mentor to dive into our businesses weaknesses and strengths. I'm very excited to see what comes of it. I'm attending this with my business partner/son and my wife. For those interested I have documented my entire journey from day one via vlog on Youtube. It's not a 'how to' but more of a 'follow my journey'. You can find it here: r/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTS3WLs0t2stlWFaqTzP2mQ?view_as=subscriber&pbjreload=10 Common questions that I get: Q. Q. How are you getting customers now?
Q. How did you become so awesome?

Posted: 02 Oct 2018 05:51 AM PDT My wife is finally profitable, which is a gigantic milestone, especially within 1 year of starting. However, she has ran into issues of patients not re-scheduling, insurances being annoying and not paying her until she calls for 3 months, and ofc... getting new patients. From her bank account and her billing software, we can see her accounting, but we arent sure the best way to make future predictions or use the data she has to solve some of those previous mentioned problems. Any suggestions on how to organize clients and draw conclusions? [link] [comments] |
Today I made a huge milestone. I landed my first client AND received my General Contractors license! Posted: 01 Oct 2018 09:38 PM PDT Well today I made a huge milestone. I landed my first client, who is a real estate agent, AND i received my general contractors license. The client has a 320 sqft deck which needs stripping, cleaning and re-staining. She was incredibly weary about what I discussed with her as she feels that I may be a bit young to do this work. I gave her an estimate on Friday, and she had 4 other people come take a look at her deck throughout the weekend, and today she gave me a call after I sent her a quick message saying that she'd liked to move forward with me. My quote I believe was about $300-$500 under fair market value, but considering she #1 is a real estate agent, and can potentially refer me quite a bit of business and #2 she is my first client, if she becomes happy with my work, will be able to write a raving review on all the major platforms(yelp and google), it will lead to further business down the road. Help monetizing content and software in the FOSS (free and open source software)?? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 08:43 AM PDT As the title implies, I'm looking for creative ideas for making money from home in a niche I'm already heavily involved in. The challenge is, this niche is all about open source software and free content. How does anyone make even enough money to cover expenses solely on donations? How is the open source space SOOOOO big and full of innovation when it seems like there is no financial or economic incentive? So here is the background. I started running Facebook ads for clients a few years ago. I built webinar funnels, landing pages, emails lists etc. Part of that was using tracking pixels and some built in analytic tools. As I started to learn more about my computer and data, and cyber security, I started to be bothered by how a lot of the marketing space treats data security and privacy. The attitude in general makes me feel a little uncomfortable. So I started to step into this "privacy, developer, hacker, libertarian, security, FOSS" space more and more. Now I'm a full time Information Technology student and I've got a full time night job, and a full time family. I'd like to quit my job and focus on school and family full time. I know I can create content, blog, podcast, YT channel...etc. and use paid ads to drive traffic and then monetize the channel with ads. But for the type of content I'd be creating, that path seems almost hypocritical. Can you imagine being tracked by the guy who created a tutorial for an ad-blocker extension? You obviously wouldn't trust that person. The next idea I can think of is to create and sell content, but that's challenging given the space. Free content is everywhere. And while there is paid content that is really good, most of that is prep for certification exams targeting professionals. The content creators need to be professionals themselves and as I've mentioned, I'm still a student. I still have a lot of value to offer I'm sure, but I wouldn't market myself as an expert in the space just yet. So the content I'd create would target people most like me. What is the best way to create some side income from home given the challenges listed above? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 05:12 AM PDT Hey guys, Below are 4 books that really helped me on my journey. Hope they help. The 4-hour Workweek Very well-known, this book is an absolute must read if you want to learn how to have "full time" pay on a part time schedule. It has so many potential uses. The author used it to travel the world and streamline his businesses to require as little hands-on time as possible. Even though I am in the app business I firmly believe the principles in this books have helped. My happiness depends on working between about 20 hours a week while enjoying life, traveling, and spending time with family. This book was monumental in showing both practical ways of accomplishing this, and theoretical ways of approaching career decisions. The Launch Pad: Inside Y Combinator, Silicon Valley's Most Exclusive School for Startups Y combinator is a famous startup incubator that helped launch companies like Dropbox and Airbnb. It's heavily geared towards software (which is where I want to build my next business) and is a superb"documentary" that follows several companies inside a single class of Ycom. Awesome for watching how the young hot tech startups are operating, what their failures were, and giving you insight into the way venture capitalists think. A must read if you find yourself dreaming of being the next big thing. Educational AND entertaining. The Lean Startup This is sort of the bible for new business ventures. Regardless of the business you build, this will teach you the mindset of creating quick "minimum viable products" and using the feedback loop to quickly change your product based on user input. The theory is practically accepted as truth nowadays, since so many new businesses operate under this methodology. It gets you out of the mindset of "I want the product to be perfect before launching it to the world!" and into "lets make something that barely works then let users tell us how to build the rest." This was the bible for my start up (Motivate) as well. So many mistakes were avoided by talking to users. Rework A really interesting read into corporate counterculture. This company hates meetings and other time-wasters, and offers tons of eclectic/strange but work-changing practices that keep people productive. It makes fun of the typical hour-long meeting, and dives into the practices of a company that operates with primarily remote employees. An excellent foray into efficiency in the startup workplace. Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:05 AM PDT Hey guys! I could really use some help or direction here. I am part of a company that works with laser engraving personalized gifts. Now that we are growing I need larger quantity of supplies. I order things like pub glasses, shot glasses, cutting boards, wood signs, flasks, etc. So origionally I was using alibaba to find suppliers and I would message about 20 or 30, eventually narrowing it down to one. From what I have found so far, the price really isnt that much better for these smaller products than just keeping it in- house (U.S.A). The reason for this is the shipping. For instance we just ordered 500 cutting boards (15x10 ish I think). The shipping and production time is about 2.5 months, and then the shipping cost basically doubled the price. The total was somewhere around $4500 total. Since I am only going with approx 500 item size (for any order right now), does anyone have a suggestion? Honestly, unless they are significant savings we would much rather just keep our suppliers in the U.S.A due to the incredible length of time and cost of shipping going overseas. I can see how larger orders (1500+) may be beneficial to go overseas, but at the 500 quantity mark the savings dont seem to be there. This being said, is there a website similar to Alibaba to find suppliers within the U.S. only? What methods are people using to find supplier in the U.S? Again, looking for pub glasses, shotglasses, and wooden objects like cutting boards. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2018 11:28 PM PDT Hi. I see a lot of post about people making goals for themselves, trying new things, and motivating themselves to do so. So why not I give it a shot. I recently got a great part time job that makes $16/hr which is a lot to a high school student like myself. I plan on saving majority of the money towards college and other life goals. A week ago I started reading about flipping products and it sounded way more manageable and hands on than a dropshipping site I owned. I found a lot of cutesy things from Etsy to sell on Amazon or eBay. Generated $50 in profit in week one, sold a used Nespresso machine. I created a goal for myself to try to flip more items and make $3,000 in profit by January 1st 2019 then I changed it to $5,000. $3,000 might seem easier, but I really want to challenge myself. I know this won't be easy, but I feel that this will help me learn that operating and managing a business even online is not simple and easy. Takes time to learn. I believe that I can, but it will take time. Wish me luck! [link] [comments] |

[FB Ads] Lifetime Vs Daily Budget Posted: 02 Oct 2018 01:40 PM PDT I have like 6 successful daily budget adsets that i've been running for a week now for specific countries. The adsets are almost all 4x ROAS which is dope but i'm seeing that half of the adspend is being wasted when the consumers of said countries are asleep or at last not buying. Whatever the case may be, it's a real pattern i'm noticing and it's genuinely annoying the crap out of me that i'm wasting half my budget (although overall successful). I know I can just leave as is but wanted to know if y'all think I should try lifetime and set the budget to be spent around the times that are converting. Now I know I'll have to duplicate the adsets and change the delivery and scheduling so that's why i'm slightly concerned. Last thing, once I do duplicate and change i'm not sure how to fully set up the budget. My daily for each adset is ranging from $15-$25 (super low I know but the countries have super low audience size so I don't even want to try to vertically scale, plus i'm comfortable with this and my budget is as is), so i'm not sure how to transition from that daily budget to lifetime budget. I'm thinking (for example) for my $15/day adset duplicate, I change to $450 lifetime budget of 30 days and then set the daily schedule of when the ads spend the money according to the data i've analyzed. Side note, when I say wasting half the money I LITERALLY mean wasting half the money. Half the money will get like CPP of $3-$5 and CPInitiateCheckout as low as $0.75-$2 while the other half will rarely get more than a few add to carts and MAYBE 1 initiate checkout [link] [comments] |

My Local (Or Not So Local Anymore) Business Just Cleared $16'000 This Weekend - 22 Years Old. Posted: 01 Oct 2018 08:40 PM PDT I have posted in this sub a few times now and browse it frequently, so I'm just giving an update: I awhile ago I commented mentioning my lifestyle and my current business which is in party catering in Australia. I'm just mentioning this to re-iterate that not everything in entrepreneurship has to be about "big ideas" or "billionaire or bust" mentalities. I'm nothing special by any means but being self employed now for two years and having the lifestyle and freedom to live how I choose is a great feeling. Sometimes looking local and finding great niches, building strong brands and improving word of mouth can reward you tremendously. Building little cash cows that are low maintenance and high returns will most likely be how I will continue to further myself in the future. If I could give any advice to a business owner I would say constantly think outside the box in terms of how to further your business, and think big. I wish I thought of my expansion plan sooner than I did, because it did require some clever thinking and tactics that I only thought of 4-5 months ago. In saying that, I am constantly thinking of new ways to further myself strategically, and I tend to focus on big picture goals as opposed to wasting time on mediocre and mundane day to day jargon. I'm in no way an expert or really a source of knowledge compared to most big players, but I feel like with the quality and quantity of this sub I probably have something to offer. Feel free to ask any questions below and i'll get to them [link] [comments] |
Execute or die: How process can improve execution Posted: 02 Oct 2018 11:46 AM PDT I am one of the founders of an early stage startup. One of the things we discovered early on was that we needed a robust process to ensure we are consistent in our execution and development. While we were initially starting, there was a lot of uncertainty each week with how much work would get done, what tasks would get completed, and how our short term development fit into the long term. After some exploration, we decided to create a more rigid process. We wanted something that would improve our throughput, encourage us to be consistent, and allow us to easily track our progress over time. The process we settled on was agile. Although there was a wide range of styles, agile provided the framework that allowed us to tackle most of the process issues we were looking to solve. We saw some agile teams propose overly strict and complex processes, while others proposed far more relaxed operations. Our team fits somewhere in the middle. We found that there are very specific things that are important to be strict on, but most things should be flexible and fluid. We just published an article on this topic here: https://medium.com/swlh/agile-for-startups-594e47500dc6 What do you guys think about agile? Do you have suggestions for how we can improve our process or have questions about how we have implemented this process? I would love to answer any questions you have! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 09:23 AM PDT Hey guys I just posted this to /r/freelanceWriters What makes Medium an attractive article platform? There are platforms out there with better rewards and communities, but you only ever hear someone mentioning "check out this medium article I wrote." The UI isn't as good as a platform as, say Vocal or igBlog but continues to dominate the article-writing digital market. Does anyone here write articles on Medium? If so, why does it attract so much attention when the platform itself is subpar? [link] [comments] |

The boards would have a chip in them to make sure people don't steal them. Thoughts? Any feedback is appreciated [link] [comments] |

Wifi Hotspot Options for Streaming Posted: 02 Oct 2018 01:32 PM PDT A big part of my businessl is doing streaming for live events but I'm having issues with my wifi solution. Currently I am using an At&T mobile hotspot but I only get 10GB a month and I just maxed out. There is no other wifi hotspot plan besides the 10GB for AT&T so I need to pick something else or have my speed throttled for the rest of the month which is unacceptable because I am streaming at events every week now. Wifi is not offered at these events so I have to provide my own. What company do you use for your mobile wifi capabilities? [link] [comments] |
Business ideas involving helping young people? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:25 AM PDT Hi guys, I'm a 28 year old guy living in London, and I've spent the majority of my career teaching/mentoring young people with challenging backgrounds/trouble with the law/victims of abuse etc. I've always wanted to run my own business, and as I'm passionate about helping young people I'd love that to somehow be incorporated in whatever business I'm running. I'm struggling with ideas though. I have some money lying around that I'd be happy to commit to this. You guys are a lot smarter than me so I'd like to appeal to your senses of creativity. Any and all ideas will be carefully considered, it could be product, service, not-for-profit, anything. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |

Amazon Merch Advertising Best Practices Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:44 AM PDT My buddy Johnny (Rules for Rebels) inadvertently gave me an awesome tip when it comes to running Amazon Merch ads, and the tip may very well help you too, so I figured I'd post it here: Basically, when you start a new advert, with the shirts you want to promote, you should let Amazon choose who to target, and allow them to pick the keywords. The reason for this is simple, because after a good time has passed, the ad will have collected tons of analytics for you, including a keyword report. Amazon allows you to download this report, so you can see exactly which keywords were garnering sales for you, and then you can "copy" the campaign in the dashboard, but this time, manually select the keywords that performed the best via the report. This should be the best route for every campaign, because who would know what people are searching for, and how they are searching better than Amazon? Your thoughts and opinions will be greatly appreciated on this here tactic, and thanks again Johnny for the awesome advice, I am now implementing this tactic on all of my campaigns going forward. Posted: 02 Oct 2018 11:48 AM PDT Hi there! I am looking to start a business with two other people, this is my first business. It is likely that they together would own 51% and I would own the other 49%. We are both providing capital equal to our ownership stake but they are bringing their business model and experience which equates to the extra 1%. It's essentially a second location of their current business. I will be hired on as a salaried employee and will manage the business. We will split profits according to our ownership stake. I have a couple questions here:
Thanks in advance!! [link] [comments] |
