Facebook Boosted Post AWESOME Return! Posted: 25 Oct 2018 05:12 PM PDT Disclaimer- I'm a marketing agency, but just giving this tip you can do this on your own because it's super powerful. One of my restaurant clients has a decent following of about 1,000 likes on their page, and were having a one year anniversary party. We did a pretty simple graphic and a boosted post pointed at their followers and their followers friends. You can do it from inside your Facebook in about 2 minutes. We just put $30 into the promotion. They got about 160 interested, 60 saying they were going... and they sold just under $1,000 worth of tacos that day. They are a 10 table place, it was packed all day! Those people brought friends, and also it got the word out for the place. Excellent and underutilized tool. If you want a tip on how to do it DM me and I'd be happy to make a screen share video for you. [link] [comments] |
Neighbor I Never Worked For Gave Me A Bad Review - Need Advice Posted: 25 Oct 2018 12:24 PM PDT My business is just starting out and is small, so I take these things very seriously; however, I never ran into a problem like this before and would like some advice on how to resolve it appropriately. I don't constantly check my reviews unless I get new customers or if I'm curious. I run this small business and go to college and also take care of my grandfather who has parkinson's, so I haven't put up any ads for my business on google (adwords helps a lot for new business) because of my schedule and have just been sticking to clients I see once a week. It's also getting colder and the work I do is dependent upon the weather. Yesterday, for whatever reason, I was curious if I had any reviews. Well, I did. It was a 2 star rating with no comment. I looked at the name and was confused because I never worked for anybody with this name nor do I know anybody with this name. So I clicked on the person's google name to look at their other reviews. I saw that the person gave okay reviews to other people, but these places were all over the country; however, a few places were in neighboring states, so I thought to myself, "Huh, probably just a fake review by some company or asshole local competition." But then I looked again and saw that he left a 3 star review for the walmart in my town. At this point, I didn't think it was a fake company or local competition. So I googled his name and sure enough I found out who this person was. It was my fucking neighbor. However, it freaked me out (I'm a paranoid person) because this wasn't a neighbor I was familiar with. I know the people next to me pretty well. This was a neighbor I've never seen or spoken to before: the house behind my grandparents' house. So my first thought was "What the fuck?" It's weird for a few reasons such as I've never spoken to this person, I've never worked in my town or close near my town (so it's not anybody he knows), my vehicle doesn't have any business information on it, my website and google places doesn't have my exact address (just town), and I've never bothered him. I live with my grandparents and we're good, quiet neighbors. I never have parties (not even once). I'm not loud. I don't play loud music or blast loud music from my car. We keep to ourselves. I keep to myself. He left the review 5 days ago so I checked to see if I maybe had any new calls during this time and maybe I didn't answer and that upset him..? But I checked and I had no new calls during that time! However, I have one guess. Sometimes my dad will come over to help out my grandparents and will stay over for a few weeks. He is also an alcoholic and talks a lot, so he can piss people off. My business cards are also out in the open in my room and I've also given him some in the past because he asked. I never see my neighbor outside in his backyard, so I don't think my dad talked to him this way. I think my dad was drunk going door to door handing out my business cards, which he would most definitely would have done without my knowledge and consent. He's not here right now (at his home, an hour from me) and doesn't have a phone, so I still have to ask him if he knows what happened when I see him next. But once I find out for certain, and if this is the case, how should I proceed? Should I personally go over to my neighbor's house and apologize? Despite having a business that requires personal interaction, I'm not a very social person and have to fake my way through these type of things, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and sorry for any errors. Trying to type this as quickly as possible. Edit: username unrelated. Edit 2: Wow, thanks for all of the replies and support! This is a throw away account and I've never posted on this subreddit before, but from what I can see, this is a cool part of reddit and will be sticking around for sure! I will follow some of the advice given here and will keep you updated once I have more information. Thanks again! [link] [comments] |
How Not To Get Taken In Business Posted: 25 Oct 2018 10:54 AM PDT Hi all, I'm fairly green to the business world, and feel like a soft target for getting taken/conned. Are there any really good books out there that go in-depth about how to notice when you're being "taken for a ride" or "conned" in the business world? What are the signs? How do I know that a potential business partner is being upfront and honest about their proposition? What questions do I ask? What thought process should I follow? What mindset should I be in? How can I get an edge over a con artist in a shirt and tie who's just looking for an easy mark? Being book-smart/business-smart and being cunning/street-smart are two completely different things. How can I best protect myself from a would-be business predator? Anything helps! Cheers [link] [comments] |
Researching LLC vs Sole Proprietorship Posted: 25 Oct 2018 07:29 PM PDT I recently graduated and got a job building a Quality Assurance department for a start up. Everyone at the company is remote across the entire world and they pay me as an independent contractor. As such, I've been trying to determine how my taxes will go since this is my first time independent and everything I've read says LLC are pretty much required. However, the only real difference about an LLC is the liability (hey its in the name!). If I don't plan on taking out any debt, no business loans, no credit cards, technically I don't even have a contract (only verbal), nothing. Is it really that important for my liabilities to be separated? Are there any surprises someone should be worried about as a Sole Proprietor? All the material on starting a business acts like someone is going to magically sue me and take my house if I am a SP. I'm just trying to think of the best course of action, so I can make some money and pay my student loans back. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Oct 2018 04:33 PM PDT Hello everyone me and my partner have worked really hard for years to grow our network and high quality end-result services regarding hair transplant and plastic surgery wise. However we dont feel like we are at a phase that we satisfy a lot of people. We have served at least 100 client in recent years with our associates. We use referrels and high end affliated offline marketing with casino and hotel teams. We need more sales funnel and thats where i need you guys help. Where should I target and how should I reach people? We have agreements with spealized doctors, operators, vip translators, vacation hotels, dental clinics etc. All grown organically in years of practice and networking. We never target money. We care only about customer satisfaction and our clients were always happy in the end. We share our experience with doctors and doctor explain how they will operate and what they can offer. Just last week our client paid 1000usd to one of our doctors just for a 15-minute meeting. High end doctors are really hard to get a hold of for consulting. Ä°n the end doctor said he cannot perform the plastic surgery that was demanded. We usually offer 3-5 days vacation in Turkey or surrouding countries then fly back to istanbul for requested service which I listed above then leave back to home. Some clients doesnt want the vacation because they dont have time, or just want to get done with the operation they demand. Turkey is leading Health Tourism in many areas especially in Europe and Middle East. Definetly dominates price/performance and hospitality rankings. I tried to be as detailed as possible for your perspective. For example we rarely get clients from USA and Canada althought its a fraction of a cost with in comparison to Turkey. [link] [comments] |

Can you legally pay your child as a legitimate business expense? Posted: 25 Oct 2018 01:22 PM PDT My daughter is 4 and I would like to pay her a salary and put it in a Roth IRA or college savings plan. If I can do it, it would allow me to pay her tax free and reduce my business tax liability. [link] [comments] |
Retail/restaurant business owners - what’s your policy for requesting days off? Posted: 25 Oct 2018 10:58 AM PDT For those of you that own businesses where constant coverage is required, what's your policy for requesting days off (including weekends and holidays)? [link] [comments] |
Local business owners - what would you bring to a community event you're sponsoring? Posted: 25 Oct 2018 06:39 AM PDT I am planning a fun community event in the park. It will have activities, food, and more and it's purpose is to build a stronger connections among community members and the small businesses that sponsor the event. I want the sponsors each to have a booth set up somewhere, but I'm not sure what more they should do, what value they could bring to the event to ensure the goal of stronger connections is achieved. What is your business and what do you think you would bring to add value to the event for local customers? [link] [comments] |
Client Won't Pay and Cannot Pay - Next Steps? Posted: 25 Oct 2018 03:25 PM PDT Hello. We have a client that went out of business. It's a messy situation and they have made it 100% clear they have no intent to pay a 3k invoice. I understand I need to either sell the debt or send them to collections. Any additional advice would be helpful. I also would like some recommendations of anyone you've worked with. This is a first for our company, and any advice is super appreciated. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
Anyone use Square Point of Sale? Posted: 25 Oct 2018 11:27 AM PDT Right now we use Quickbooks Point of Sale. We use it for everything from receiving to ringing up customers. We have started using Square at events and I'm curious if their Point of Sale system does the same things that Quickbooks does. [link] [comments] |
Looking for advice on mentorship with my Parkour Gym. Posted: 25 Oct 2018 06:08 AM PDT Hey all - (if this isn't the right place to post this or should be somewhere else I apologise and will shift ) For the past 3 years I've run a pretty successful Parkour Gym in Massachusetts (hubptc.com) with a great amount of students and awesome coaches. When we opened we we're some of the only game in town, and had a few really huge marketing oppritunities (a multi-million dollar campaign run by a health Care business with our gym name all over it for instance) that really skyrocketed us from 0 -> . 3 years in it seems now we're hitting a bit of a plateau, and I know it's partially because we spread ourselves out a bit (other sattelite style locations, partnership programs) along with familiarity in a smaller market. I know there are some low hanging fruit of what we aren't doing, aswell as some more technical strategy moves that could be being made, yet sometimes being entrenched in things makes it hard to see the business clearly as I find myself able to do with other gyms and businesses. I'd love to chat with someone who'd feel this could have some crossover to their expertise and experience and see where we could take discussion. Feel free to dm me, or I can provide more info in comments below! Thanks, D [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Oct 2018 09:08 PM PDT OK. I've been wondering long and hard how the "process" works. The only way I can wrap my head around me getting into a business with a SBA is like buying a house. You go to the bank to see how much you can qualify for, look at homes, you find something you like, you have your guarantee from the bank, you make an offer... and so forth. Is it the same for buying a turn-key business? I'm looking for turn-key business so that a lot of the leg work is already there to where I just need to step in. Plus it looks better for SBA to have an existing business that's making money and/or established. So here I am looking online on a daily basis to see what's new. I have some funding from different sources, but some of the listings that interests me are in the 700K- 4 million. I can't really go do a SBA if I don't know or have something I want. I can't really write up a business plan (if required), if I don't have the numbers in front of me to present to the bank. Thanks... [link] [comments] |
Thinking of Starting an Online/Pop up Food Buisness Posted: 25 Oct 2018 11:09 AM PDT Hey guys- finally had an idea for a small business that essentially consists of selling food online. I am working on a business proposal and looking into other options as well. My one thought was to go to local craft shows in higher income areas as well as local festivals and street fairs since they are pretty popular. I plan on using the in person festivals etc as a way to market in person while also having an online business. Most of this will be local and I will only ship in the states. I could take care of social media, website design, logo design etc on my own - especially starting. I have experience and work 9-5 in e-commerce, so I have some familiarity with online marketing as well. To start, I don't plan on getting any licensing or permits. Most of what I can do can be done without that - unless I hit it big day one, then I'll have to reconsider. I plan on starting small, offering simple things that aren't too expensive and only offering between 5-10 best products that I can produce. My concern is honestly trying to get bigger. There are quite a few different options that I can scale to. Quite frankly, I don't feel like I will be THAT successful to start out, and I anticipate days where I lose more money than I make. That being said, what do you guys recommend in order to better promote a business like this? Could I partner with organizations that seem unrelated? Ie: if I am selling food, I have a friend that has a 501(c)3 in film that would definitely allow me to set up shop at some of his events, likely for free. Any ideas or directional support would be great. I've never really considered a business like this, but I think since I am really into this and really want to succeed, I can find my way given some time. [link] [comments] |
Experience with Capital One Business or others? Posted: 25 Oct 2018 05:47 AM PDT My wife currently has an LLC with banking done thru Bank of America. Currently Less than $75k gross sales each year in a service related industry, no physical merchant services needed. I'd like to get her away from BoA if possible to something more friendly. We do have physical branches of Capital One, as well as some credit unions (Navy Fed; Northwest) in the area. Are there any banks or credit unions you suggest for a small business? Has anyone made the switch from BoA? Thanks for any insight! [link] [comments] |
Thoughts on 3rd party delivery system like GrubHub? Posted: 25 Oct 2018 07:45 PM PDT From my understanding, GrubHub provides free listing of your restaurant, but it also comes a hefty fee for its services: 20% marketing commission + 10% delivery commission + (?) processing fee Is the above information still accurate in 2018? Does anyone have partnership with GrubHub they would like to share? [link] [comments] |
Started a small business, what can I claim back on my tax return? (UK) Posted: 25 Oct 2018 05:27 AM PDT I'm aware that I can claim a number of things back on my self assessment but to what extent am I able to do it? Fuel? Vehicle? Clothing? Mobile phone bill? I would appreciate some guidance, thanks :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Oct 2018 03:05 AM PDT Hi, My name is Lio, I'm 21 from Israel. During my service i had an app that called "What's that sound?" which was very fun and simple. You had a big play button in the middle and when you pressed it a sound was activated and you had to guess what that sound is. In e-Commerce my experience started with dropshipping. I had a shopify store with a partner that was making us a little passive income from the start but due to lack of value and miscommunication issues that was over. Back to the main topic: Anyway you get the picture. I will also provide, Invoice and any additional information to prove that this is not a scam. You're welcome to wish me good luck, diss me or PM me for more details. Thanks for your time, [link] [comments] |

Looking for Advice on Share prices for new investor. Posted: 25 Oct 2018 09:42 AM PDT Hey /r/smallbusiness! I recently opened my first small business in Canada, and we are having some issues with the selling of shares. We are Incorporated in Alberta. A friend of one of the partners wanted a small piece of the company with non-voting shares. We agreed on a price, and received the money before we had any agreements signed by the lawyers(Not good, I know). Instead of issuing new shares, we sold back some of our shares to the company to accomodate the new shareholder. We went to the Lawyer to get it official, and were informed we couldn't put the price we agreed upon for the shares into the incorporation documents because the shares had no value as the company just has debt right now. We would have to get an evaluation done to change the price on the legal documents, but it would result in the same. Obviously the new investor isn't happy that the prices don't match, and I'm just looking for options at this point. Would the Corporation write up an official document t stating he bought X shares for X dollars, even though it won't say that I'm the incorporation documents ? Any help would be appreciated, sorry for the long read. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Oct 2018 04:14 PM PDT Hello, fellow Redditers. My wife recently created an LLC through a company called Inc Authority and I have a question about costs. Inc Authority is based out of Nevada and we live in West Virginia. She picked them because they have really good reviews and they were nice. They charged her around 400$ to do all the LLC paperwork which included filing the Article of Organization through the Secretary of State of West Virginia, getting an EIN number and putting an operating agreement together. Her LLC is official and all the documents were accepted, signed, etc. The problem is they are asking for another 169$ to do a "legal separation." They are saying she isn't legally separated from her LLC and if she were to get sued our personal assets are in danger. I can't find anywhere on the Google where this is necessary. I thought her LLC company acted as the legal buffer between her company assets and our personal assets, not some "legal separation document." Is this really necessary or are we being bamboozled. Anybody with any knowledge or help please chime in. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Automotive Small Business - My first foray into business Posted: 25 Oct 2018 03:25 PM PDT Hello Reddit Fans, Keen to get some advice about entering the business world, so below is a brainstorm of where my headspace is at. My background: - Mechanical Engineering background with ~ 6 years experience in the automotive/motorsport/engineering design space. A good combination of hands on and problem solving experiences. - Looking for a new change and business provides that avenue. - In the process of taking over the family business - small scale automotive wrecking yard. Parts supplier to wholesale and retail consumers. Dad and mum are heading into retirement but will hang around to assist with the re-establishment of the business under myself. Business: - Small automotive wrecking yard, currently with 2 staff (I will become 3rd/owner). A decent amount of stock, but think about any automotive wrecker you've been to...stock recording is not their forte! - Stable revenue streams and relatively low stress environment - 10 years running and plenty of goodwill. - No marketing or advertising, very old school paper documentation methods. Everything is done by "gut feeling". - Plenty of opportunity to streamline the business and improve back-end documentation. My strategy to the business: - Well versed to the industry and have a decent grasp of the automotive industry I have also worked in the shop for 4 years P/T and have run the shop whilst the parents are on holidays. - Plan of attack is to use the first 1-1.5 years as a learning phase (re-familiarise myself with the business and be involved in it's day to day running, immerse myself in every aspect of the business). Not keen to jump in without long term, full time experience and start changing up the business straight away. - Approach improving the business from the perspective of "minimum work for maximum gain" so I don't waste time working on tasks that have limited yield (for example, going through and re-documenting files into electronic format, if there is not a regular future use for them). - My questions to the community below reflect some of the thoughts I have of the business thus far. Questions for the community: - What do you think of the above approach to entering the business? - How do you approach lead generation and increasing incoming revenue in a business that people only approach when they "need" something? My view is that because of the nature of the business (needs based, people only buy parts when they need a replacement), that the best approach is to broaden and expand the customer database as far and wide as possible by building relationships with the public and workshops. Social media can be used to generate more publicity about the business, but ultimately the leads and conversions will come from those that require parts. This would steer me towards directing my time towards mechanical workshops, smash repairers etc. where my stock is more likely to be purchased. - What podcasts would you recommend to listen to to get further insight into small business operations? Long term, I would love to see the business fully systemised with some staff running the show, but I'm not sure if it is feasible. - Engineers are very risk adverse and try to always 'forward plan', though it's very simple to get stuck into the paralysis by analysis state of mind. What were some of your best lessons that you learned through the business operations experience? - There is a lot of improvement I can make to the back end of the business in the way of inventory system. This would greatly help me understand what stock we have and track future in-out of stock, but from a resource POV it isn't feasible to go and count/barcode all stock (you'd be there for over a year!). Labelling as I go seems to be the best approach I can foresee for now. Has anyone had experience in going through a similar scenario? If you can include a small background about you and your own business, that would be great! I'd love to understand more about the context of all your feedback. Looking forward to engaging more with the community. Thanks K [link] [comments] |
Should we create LLC in November or January? Posted: 25 Oct 2018 02:21 PM PDT My wife and are are going to incorporate ASAP. But I was wondering if I should wait until January. The issue I have waiting until January is that the bank will not open a business account until we have incorporated. [link] [comments] |
