Intern just asked me what a "queef" election is and I can't stop laughing. Posted: 05 Oct 2018 11:58 AM PDT At my firm we have an intern (english second language) and she asked me what a QEF election on a K-1 means but she said "queef". I couldn't contain myself and started laughing in her face. I feel terrible now cause she probably thinks I was laughing at her not knowing what a QEF election is or at how she talks. She probably thinks I'm an asshole but I can't explain to her why I was laughing cause I would have to explain to her what a queef is. [link] [comments]

What’s the nearest excel trick you’ve learned recently? Posted: 05 Oct 2018 07:40 PM PDT I just learned that of you hit control, and then drag a tab at the bottom it makes a copy. Saves you from having to right click, hit make a copy, etc etc. I'm sure it's common knowledge but it blew my mind and no one in my life out side of work can appreciate it. [link] [comments]
How to get into public once you've been out of school a few years? Posted: 05 Oct 2018 05:23 PM PDT I've been out of school almost three years, been working in private the whole time. I got the CPA license and have started applying to public firms but it's tough, they have all the entry level recruits they need from campuses. How can I go about doing this? All the outside recruiters I've talked to barely work with getting people into public (why would they? Any medium or large firm doesn't need any help with that). Any advice? How would I find firm recruiters on LinkedIn in my area? The ones I do find are in different parts of the country. Any tips? [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Oct 2018 03:43 PM PDT Received summer intern offers with KPMG & PwC in the same city for the same work with a nearly 20% pay difference between the two hourly rates. Is this unusual? [link] [comments]

Who looks at the EY digital interviews? Posted: 05 Oct 2018 06:42 PM PDT Is it the recruiter/HR or the people we'll be interviewing with? Just want to make sure I can recycle my answers for the on-campus interviews... [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Oct 2018 05:00 PM PDT I wasted a lot of time in school. Going part time while working at a warehouse a little bit when I needed money. Last two years I went full time and finished. Did not realize I needed to be taking internships while still in school and years of not taking school seriously resulted in a sub 3.0 GPA. I did get a pretty good study system after a while, so I'd like to go for a CPA eventually. I have no accounting experience, an non-optimal GPA, and don't think I could actually answer any accounting questions currently. Where should I be looking? Something like H&R Block? Guys I need help building my accounting foundation Posted: 05 Oct 2018 09:05 PM PDT I am applying for a state exam to be an official at my country's Tax Department. The exam consists of three inter-related subjects: economics, tax, and accounting. I reviewed last years' exam papers and the tests in accounting are highly technical and are completely foreign to me (as a college student who has some economics foundations). Can you recommend materials for me to read? TBH, I prefer going for the shortcut (brief-reading materials like slides or something) because I have read some fundamental accounting principles and seemed to have a grip of what accounting should be like. And the exam date is not too far away as well. Any tips are highly appreciated too. Cheers! [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Oct 2018 06:50 PM PDT I'll be graduating this fall semester with a M.S. in Accounting. Currently I'm working as an accounting clerk, but I realized I'd like a career in financial accounting instead of tax or audit. What career path could I follow to get more experience in this area of accounting? I was thinking since my current job is only entry level maybe next thing I could do is AR, AP or payroll. I need some guidance. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Received Two Offers and don't know what to do!! Posted: 05 Oct 2018 08:42 PM PDT Hello, I am a university student that recently got two internship offers. But I'm not sure which one I should pick, so if you guys can help me with my decision by giving me some inputs, that would be great! First offer is from EY as an assurance intern. I haven't received a written offer, but they called and told me that they are making one right now. I really liked EY and always dreamt about working there. However, as I was going through interviews, Baker Tilly caught my attention as well. I really liked their office and everything about Baker Tilly. For EY, I couldn't see myself working there for a long period of time, but I can see myself working at Baker Tilly in the long term. But I always wanted to work at one of the big 4 companies and EY was my top choice out of all of them. Which company will benefit me in the long term? Will rejecting Baker Tilly hinder my chance at working there later on? Are there more benefits (higher salary, etc) for interns that come back as full-time compared to a regular new hire? Any help would be great!!! [link] [comments]
Those who have encountered FAR-like SIMS on AUD, tell us your story? Posted: 05 Oct 2018 04:53 PM PDT I got AUD in three weeks. Wondering if I should brush up on pensions and consolidations or something. [link] [comments]
A question about Journal adjustments at the end of a quarter Posted: 05 Oct 2018 08:27 PM PDT I'm currently in my first accounting class in university and I am doing a term project that has a quarterly accounting period. I have $2,000 of rent per month for January, February and March. Do I include it at the end of each month or at the end of the quarter? And if it is at the end of each quarter do I mark $2,000 down for each month or just 6,000? I've tried googling and have found nothing and my professor can't help me [link] [comments]
Double major (accounting &finance) or minor in finance and take extra accounting classes for CPA? Posted: 05 Oct 2018 08:24 PM PDT Hello fellow accounting peeps. First time posting on here. So I've been struggling on what to do lately. I need a way to reach 150 credit hours in order sit for the CPA exam. My 2 options are double major (acc and fin) or just minor (in finance) and take extra accounting classes to prepare me for the CPA. It would be nice to have two degrees and I do enjoy finance, but what worries me is that I'm seeing really smart friends of mine struggle with the CPA, so that has me worried. Also If i decide to double major I'll be taking mostly finance classes my last year. I'm worried I may forget all my accounting. Any help is depreciated ;) ignore the pun. Haha [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Oct 2018 08:18 PM PDT Wondering if anyone here is familiar with using the DACI framework in their roles. My question is, where there is an SOX or internal audit finding, who is the driver? Would that typically be the SOX PMO/internal auditor or would the driver be the process owner that owns the deficiency? [link] [comments]
Q3 pass rates have been posted Posted: 05 Oct 2018 11:13 AM PDT They're pretty much in line with Q2 but AUD is a few percent lower https://www.aicpa.org/becomeacpa/cpaexam/psychometricsandscoring/passingrates.html [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Oct 2018 06:26 PM PDT I'm currently sitting for the CPA exam (I'm halfway done) and considering my next career options once I'm done I really like the analytical side of accounting, I think forensic accounting is the coolest thing What type of Career would allow me to analyze without being overly extroverted ? Most of my accounting experience is general accounting and payroll but I'm only 28 so I feel I still have time to switch paths [link] [comments]
Anyone take FAR this past week? Posted: 05 Oct 2018 06:15 PM PDT I did great on the MCQ and a few of the sims. On my last testlet though I couldn't find the AL and ran out of time for the last two sims (9 documents each) managed to put my best guesses but feel like I'm going to fail. Anyone else whos taken it feel the same? Now I'm studying for BEC/AUD and keep having this nagging fear lol. [link] [comments]
Can people who work in accounting please advise what the day to day work is for 'A/R, A/P, and tax? Posted: 05 Oct 2018 02:27 PM PDT Hi all. I am trying to get into accounting more. Right now i do work in a small office helping out enter in data into the accounting program. I am curious though, whenever I search jobs or read accounting related threads/news, I always see Accounts receivable clerk or accounts payable clerk, etc. When talking about these in more depth, what would an AR or AP clerk do on a day to day basis. I understand the definition and concept from school, but could someone give an example. Like using a restaurant as an example. Like would someone doing A/P for the restaurant handle the purchases and invoices from where the restaurant buys its material/supplies? Like let's say Pete purchased $5000 silverware from XYZ corp. Would the AP clerk just enter the data into the system like notate the right accounts? Or is it completely different? How about for A/R? Can anyone give a better example to understand? Also bonus if anyone has time, I understand the busy season of tax returns, but what would accountants working in 'tax' be doing the rest of the year? Would they be working with multiple companies and helping them with the sales/employee tax info or strictly working in 1 single company. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks Reddit! [link] [comments]
Big four interview coming up next week. What can I expect? Posted: 05 Oct 2018 09:46 PM PDT Hi guys, so next week I have an interview with one of the big four. It's going to be an hour long and half will be with a senior manager and the other half will be with a partner. The email also said it was going to be a behavioral interview. Just wondering what kinds of questions should I prepare for? [link] [comments] |
