My manager said if I get any sales today to put them in his name.

He then said he'll give me the commission + $10. Is this illegal or a major red flag?

    [Interview] Live mock pitch

    Posted: 30 Sep 2018 05:09 AM PDT

    Hi /r sales

I have an interview for a junior position in a start-up early next week and I've been ask to pitch the firm with a PPT deck about how they bring value and why the prospect should use the product.

Now I have some questions about it, if any of you could help I would be grateful :

    - How long should I pitch ? I figured a pitch should really be short and impacting, so 2 to 3 minutes. However I see this exercise as a presentation that I would have to make in front of a future prospect, so maybe it should be longer like between 7 and 10 minutes. What do you guys think ?

    - What steps that I should follow for a sales pitch ?

I have never made a pitch before, I know that you should always be adressing your client's needs and how the product is there to help them, show evidence that it worked for other clients but is there an order ?

    - I have also been asked to find the names of the people I would pitch for, should I put their name on the PPT ? Also their job ?

Thank you very much for your help

    Auto Dialers for Android?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2018 09:14 AM PDT

    Hey folks,

I'm looking for a nice dialer to use with Android.

Can't afford fancy, expensive SaaS at the moment.

I just need something simple that will allow me to load, say, a CSV and call them automatically.

What’s your experience of turning down the sale?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2018 03:41 PM PDT

I'm sure I'm not the only person who at the end of Q3 is now going to be saying next week "I was serious that an end of quarter discount actually expired at the end of quarter". The discount one of our prospective clients last week was looking for was so big that I'm ready to renege on the whole deal because they didn't get it approved in time, and their attitude last week came across that they didn't care about the deadlines we had put into the discount proposal. Honestly, it makes such a small difference to my quota, so I don't care!

What is everyone's experience with telling a prospect your business is no longer interested in doing business with them? I have honestly never done this before.

To SDR or to not SDR, that is the question...

    Posted: 29 Sep 2018 01:30 PM PDT

    Guy/Gals:

—For the past 4 years, I have worked for an advertising/media company and back in the spring one of my clients approached me about a FT opportunity at one of their flagship subsidiaries, amid conversations surrounding cancelling their ad contract with me.

I took the role in the summer and having a bit of buyers remorse—I recently applied to several startups, tech companies, and other media companies. I received offers from several and including my previous employer.

One of the roles is an AE role at a very small startup ($<10M) with very low initial earning potential but long-term growth ; backed by 500Startups and SOSV part of the offer included a low equity portion—1% equity — 1st year OTE $40k-$50k

The other is a SDR role that will be located in AZ. A very niche industry but backed by Boeing. No equity but comparable OTE $65k-$70k

My main question is that I don't have any tech-SaaS exp and with exp as an AE in Advertising for future earning potential and resume building purposes would it make sense to "start" as an SDR or BDR then jump straight into a lower earning AE role?

tldr; Better to start as an SDR at a late stage start up or an AE at an early stage startup?
