I want to import planners from china to USA/Europe. The planners will be printed in china. I'll buy custom-made boxes (for each planner) on china too.

I wonder what method would be more cost effective:

    a) Send the custom packaging to my printers and ask them to package each planner on a custom box before making the cartons (big boxes for shipping)

    b) Send the planners and custom boxes separately and let my fulfillment centers in USA/Europe handle that.

    c) other ideas?

    Journey Update x-post r/entrepreneurridealong

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 09:46 AM PDT

    Hey all,

About three months ago I posted a thread to r/entrepreneurridealong stating my intention to walk away from a perfectly good job to start a window cleaning and pressure washing service.

Against basically everyone's advice - I did it.

Currently its nothing spectacular, however, I have been able to completely replace my income from my old Job within the first month of going for it. Its still a struggle and I am 100% not getting rich off of this but I cannot say enough how much happier I am. Its harder work for sure, but its my hard work.

I'm going to post a link to my site for you all to check out if you wish, and as always any questions, advice, or support is always welcome.

    Heres my barebones website: https://thewindowhiders.com/

This is very serious and also complex

    Posted: 01 Aug 2018 12:51 AM PDT

I hate to be so gender sensitive but this subject is hard to approach in 2018. I am the proprietor of a small costumer service based business and I don't know how to go about this situation. I have a single male employee who is very kind and gets gratuity. He was being kind to a female client who new he worked late that evening. Late the same night on our business land line (she got from google) she called and asked for him to come over in a sexual visit after work. My assistant over heard the conversation (as one sided, so did customers) on our work phone and contacted me. This seems inappropriate and like sexual harassment. My male employee later backed up the story and told me he never acted upon the offer and was completely professional. I think everyone no matter what gender deserves to have a safe work environment but what should I do? What would you do in such a touchy circumstance?

Anxiety ruining my work performance. Please help.

    Posted: 01 Aug 2018 04:00 AM PDT

I work for a small business where I actively look for new clients. This is not the position I signed up for but the work we do for the clients once we have them. I am the start of a new branch with no business background and I was told I'd have clients set up for me when I started full time. Unfortunately, that wasn't true and I'm spending 40 hours a week looking for clients.

All that to say, my anxiety has shot through the roof. I'm an introvert that is fueled by hands on work - the job I'm supposed to be doing fulfills that need. I'm really uncomfortable in situations where I'm approaching people I don't know to sell them a service. I end up meeting a lot of people and passively handing over my business card - but there hasn't been any follow up from those interactions even if i hunt down their information. It has gotten to the point where I freeze up for hours and I end up being less productive all day because I know I'll have to go to networking events and have to represent our brand well. I'm horrible at knowing what to say and end up rambling or say two words and stop speaking.

I try to spend my days doing as much tasks as I can manage from my computer or mailing materials (any hands on or quick tasks that I feel like I can manage) but I need to get used to networking or I'm going to be out of a job in a hot minute. Any tips or suggestions?

Any advice concerning using yelp to market my arcade?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 05:30 PM PDT

Yelp people have been calling since I opened, largely I have been just avoiding them. I actually had a long conversation with a sales rep, and he seemed pretty pushy and I am not really interested in the service.

Just wondering if anybody here would recommend using this platform or not, what I should expect if I do, how much to spend etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

    Thanks

    Short research study

    Posted: 01 Aug 2018 02:05 AM PDT

    Hello all,

I am working on a project on redesigning a website and would like users to take part in a user study to help me improve the navigation of the website. For this I am conducting a tree testing session, where you are provided with few question, all you have to do is find the answer or option from the dropdown. The study is for academic purpose and information remains solely with me. Thank you for participating.

Small/mid/large business owners are we welcome.

    Follow up from previous post

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 11:24 PM PDT

    https://www.reddit.com/r/smallbusiness/comments/93arrm/serious_distracted_employees/

    Quick rundown:

Basically we have a small dessert shop and employees have a ton of free time, which would be spent on their cellphones. But sometimes they do their task badly, because we allow them to use their phones, some of them rely on better employees to do it for them. Some even get to the point where they forget about customers because they're too attached to the devices.

So based on the help from comments I've summarized the necessary steps we should take to ensure productivity:

-Employees spent their free time managing the social media of the shop

-Employees spent their free time decorating a board with flavours and whatnot

-Employees spent their free time brainstorming flavours

-Employees spent their free time outside the shop advertising(maybe)

-Make a checklist of task that should be accomplished

-Properly train employees who are bad to do their task properly with goals in mind and with better communication,

if they still fuck up after many tries cycle through to better employees

What do you guys think? Is this enough?

Anyways one more thing, I've too noticed that my dad runs this small business really intensely, he works 63 hour weeks and falls asleep when he eats(he isn't even that old) also he's the type of guy who say if he sees an employee fuck up something he focuses on doing it himself rather than retraining. Do you guys think he's overworked? Maybe I should get him to chill out a little which would indirectly lead to better employee productivity?

    Starting a business help

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 10:40 PM PDT

    Hello reddit,

I've been researching quite a lot recently into the laws of starting a business etc and there doesnt seem to be a straight answer. I was hoping someone could help me out by answering how do I actually go about legitimizing my business? and how much would it cost (averagely)? Is it illegal for me to start selling my products I make in my room? (BTW it's a clothing brand + selling protein shakes etc)

Thanks so much for viewing and helping!!

So confused in my current situation.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 10:28 PM PDT

Not sure if here is the right place to get advice.

Background: I and my friend had developed Online remote control claw machine app - Teleclaw since Nov 2017. The app is available to users in Feb 2018. After several months, we could not get any profit from it. Then, my co-founder decided to leave in June.

I don't want to give up easily, so currently I'm just doing some technical works on improvement and new features on my own. Right now, Teleclaw has ~7k registered users, ~200 daily active users, ~3k followers in Instagram, few thousand AWS credits and occasionally getting some positive comments/feedbacks from users. I think it has potential but I have no resources to make it better. For example, getting complaint from some users about the stability, while I am technically not able to solve them. On the other hand, I also keep asking myself what's next and what actually I want. I am now 26. I want to explore other countries before 30. Working holiday in Canada can be a good choice.

But I literally don't know what to do with Teleclaw and what to do with failed startup practically? Should I keep it running or just tell all users that we are going to shut down? Throwing away all the physical assets ? Is it possible to sell it (if yes, any good ways to find someone who is interested in buying the business?)

Any advice are very much appreciated.

    Tips for Accounts Receivable collections.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 10:07 PM PDT

So I have been in business about 3 years now and my accounts receivable has recently blown up. We do a large majority of our business on an open 30 day account so we are constantly having to do collection calls to make sure the invoices get paid in a timely manner. Our current process for billing and collections is to invoice the customer by mail or email (or both if requested), we then give accounts 30 days before the 1st "reminder" call to pay the invoice. After the reminder call we will wait 2 weeks and follow up, after this we will basically follow up on a regular basis until the bill is taken care of (this is very time consuming when you have 300 open invoices and 150 of them are past due). Other than that, we send out past due invoices the 3rd week of every month.

Does anyone on here with Accounts Receivable/Collections experience have any pointers or tips they could give me to dial in my A/R more? I have 280k in open invoices right now and 150k of it is past due. Im used to having a decent amount of past due's, but recently its just gotten a bit uncomfortable.

    Any recommendations are appreciated.

    Any Auto Repair Shop Owners?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 06:44 PM PDT

I want to own and operate an auto repair shop. Where do I start? Was it easy to start your own, and if you did it again, what would you do different?

I'm a former blue color mechanic who went white color software engineer in their mid-twenties. There's a lot to my desire and decision to do this, but overall I've concluded that office life is not for me and that I have no motivation going the extra mile for a company full of fat cats, and would rather be gaining the rewards that come from that myself.

Single member LLC, no employees, do I need to have/post labor laws?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 04:39 PM PDT

    Basically title...

I just got a mailer from a company looking as official as possible saying they sell posters with the required state law employee rights.

If I'm a single member LLC with no emplees, am I required to have or post these? In state of Maine.

I figured it probably isn't something I need to worry about, but thought I'd ask just in case. Who would be reading them if I have no employees? Do I need to keep myself informed of the current minimum wage/sexual harassment/etc laws?

    Out-date Branded Clothing

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 03:30 PM PDT

Hi! Small question, but we have some old t-shirts with our old logo. We changed our logo and we're not sure if donating the old t-shirts would hurt out brand rep. We would like to donate it as it is the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly. The old logo does have our company name on it.

    Thoughts?

    Employee PTSD Accommodation

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 11:26 AM PDT

After seeing the doctors name, I suspect this condition was sparked so they could get a medical marijuana card. We don't test, would lose people if we did, we have 10 salary employees and 8 hourly employees.

The PTSD employee is requesting accommodation to work from home 2 days a week. They get their work done but I'm worried the other employees will try to follow a similar path if I allow it. Also worried about the legal side of it - ADA.

First time being asked to accommodate. Any suggestions?

    Founder Salaries (UK)

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 10:35 AM PDT

I'm founding a healthcare services company in the UK and will be taking investment capital to launch. My Co-Founder and I will be taking 'salaries' from day 1, but I am keen to make sure we are doing it in the most tax efficient way possible.

Do we have to take the money as official salaries and be subject to PAYE and income tax, or can we take it as dividends or consulting fees to enable us to leave the maximum amount in the company account whilst paying our personal bills during the early days?

Decision fatigue? Feeling overwhelmed and looking for advice

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 05:31 AM PDT

I have a small business. Calling it small may be an over-estimation even. It's my side hustle. On slow months, I bring in about a car payment worth of revenue and during the busy quarter, it pays my mortgage. It's good work that I enjoy. But boy do I get exhausted or overwhelmed making decisions--sometimes to the point of inaction!

I've read about decision fatigue and I often try to delay decision making until early morning to have a fresh mind about things, but still. It takes its toll. What's the most frustrating, I guess, is that I'm in a rather low-risk position since I'm not relying on this income stream to live. Yet I can't seem to get past this block sometimes. I find inaction to be a poor default choice, but I wind up there more often than I'd like.

I've taken to keeping a document of monthly goals and I think that has helped me stay focused on making decisions that directly affect those goals. Then there are all of these nebulous ideas too. I've started keeping a record of those so as not to lose them altogether, but I still struggle with making decisions on what things to implement and when.

For example, one of my goals is to grow the business. Obvious, right? So how do I do this. One idea was to take a more active role on social media (my goal for July/August). I finally started doing this, after agonizing about it for far too long, and I've seen some small, but tangible, results. Another goal is to add revenue streams. Okay. I took a small step towards this by branching out into a related market (goal for August). Nothing there so far but it's early and I took on a really low-risk, low-overhead opportunity. There are other more time-consuming, higher risk/reward opportunities, but I fear committing to them when I'm in the throes of some major life changes (baby #2 on the way plus some other big things).

When the stakes are low enough, I've always been a sort of leap first kind of person. That's how I even got to this point. I leapt and thought I'd sort the rest out later if I had any success. Now that I've had marginal success (and a bit of failure thrown in for good measure!), I feel I need to be more strategic in my next steps, but when I attempt to think strategically, I just get exhausted or overwhelmed.

Any advice for overcoming this sort of block? Does making decisions ever get any less burdensome?

Note: I struggle with this in my day job too. I am often tasked with duties that require a lot of independent decision making. The difference there is that I have oversight and a boss I can turn to whenever I get "lost in the weeds." There is also structure that helps me stay focused on organizational goals. Also, despite my general leap first attitude, when it comes to higher stake items, I turn highly analytical and very risk averse. So maybe it's just me?
