$MU / Micron says China injunction won't affect sales target, shares up 2%

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 11:30 AM PDT

The preliminary injunction stops Micron's Chinese subsidiaries from manufacturing, selling, or importing certain Crucial and Ballistix-branded DRAM modules and solid state drives in China. The affected products make up slightly more than 1% of Micron's annualised revenues.

Since the fourth fiscal quarter is underway, Micron anticipates that the negative impact to revenue this quarter relating to the injunction will be approximately 1%, and the company continues to expect revenue to be within the previously guided range of $8.0 to $8.4 billion.

Micron will comply with the ruling while requesting the Fuzhou Court to reconsider or stay its decision.

    Lam Research ($LRCX)

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 04:18 AM PDT

The fundamentals on Lam Research still show it is a quality stock, more so now that is 25 bucks cheaper. *I am now over 15% in the red since buying around $200/share.

The news has been negative and trade issues have made this one pullback. What are other's thoughts on $LRCX?

    Micron / China Questions

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 11:19 PM PDT

If anybody more familiar with this industry can shed some light on the following questions, I would greatly appreciate it. I realize there are no answers available to some of these questions, so educated opinions are also very much welcome.

Which specific products are allegedly banned, and how much each contributes to their revenue in China? What exact proportion of their total revenue do these specific products cumulatively make up in China ? (Yes, China contributes to 40%+ of MU's top line, but I am not familiar with the specifically banned products themselves).

Some say it is temporary. How do we know that it is temporary? If so, for how long? Even if it its for a few months, that may imply a significant portion of their revenue this fiscal year. (Opinions here obviously)

Is there any quantifiable metric that sheds light on how high the global demand is in compared to global supply? Say China decides to buy from Hynix/Samsung. The demand/supply gap large enough so that Hynix/Samsung's previous customers will look to purchase from Micron? If this answer is indeed yes, there should obviously be less concern. It's either a bluff or Micron is fine either way.

And any thoughts on the general situation, and how you think it will play out.

Lots of general opinions are being posted about here and other platforms, but I believe tangible, specific answers to the aforementioned questions should provide great clarity on an investor's next steps.

Thank you so much. Please let me know if I'm also thinking about this the wrong way or if I'm not accounting for something else.

How do we avoid meme stocks being pushed on this subreddit?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 01:41 PM PDT

there is a lot of hype going on and ultimately people "gamble" real money. This has lots of people asking for advice and a novice cant differentiate someone pushing a penny stock from legit advice.

    Think IQ.

the stock was heavily pushed and was the hottest topic the last months.. it had a peak and now it has tanked and all chatter stopped.

this is what we can call meme stock?

can we somehow protect the subreddit from scammers pushing stock?

Holy fuck guys, wth is up with Tesla; they have skipped a break test, essentially; hurting the stock.

I am optimistic on Tesla; I want to maintain my position in it, believe me, but the Volatility is crazy.

What do y'all think: should I keep my position?

Earnings are being reported soon; not sure how I feel though. Like I said: I believe in this Company, but others people's "professional opinions" on Wall Street are Hurting the company.

I want to use $3k from Roth IRA to buy one of these Vanguard Funds VASGX VFINX VTSAX VTSMX which one to start with?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 09:04 AM PDT

I am seeing things about if you buy at $10k its lower expense ratio. but also seeing if you buy ETF version of preferred fund you can always sell the ETF and switch to the mutual fund when you reach $10K without a taxable transaction. I have also seen someone say they would do lifestrategy in the roth account. and to use VTI

    Buying before an acquisition?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 08:09 AM PDT

    Hello All -

I'm looking to slowly build a portfolio and I'm seeing an opportunity that seems like could be lucrative. I noticed a large company, in a niche (but also lucrative), market. It has announced an acquisition of it's largest competitor. I believe the acquisition could help the company compete on an almost monopolistic level, while at the same time, nearly double in size.

In terms of acquisitions, is it smart to buy prior to two companies merging? Thanks for the information.

    Robotics/AI ETF opinions

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 07:22 AM PDT

I've got about 10% of my IRA in cash, and I'd like to invest some or all of it in an ETF that tracks robotics/AI/etc. Three I'm looking at are ROBO (.95% expense ratio), BOTZ (.68%), and ROBT (.65%). BOTZ and ROBO are well off their 52 wk highs, 21% and 15%. ROBT is as well, but only 8%. If someone has a strong opinion on one of these I'd love to hear it! Thanks all

    Simple Wealth

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 06:45 PM PDT

Anyone read Simple Wealth, Inevitable Wealth by Nick Murray and have some counterpoints? I just read it and found a bunch of useful insight, but it is biased (as he clearly states) toward having financial advisors and investing solely in mutual funds. I am interested in other viewpoints regarding buying/investing in individual equities. Thx.

People who invest in HKEX, any suggestions on apps/software/codes that alert you on technical analysis indicators?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 02:07 AM PDT

For example, if Tencent RSI is below a certain threshold or if MACD crosses over, it would give you an alert.

Nintendo, what is their stock name?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 01:45 AM PDT

I asked this in thread before and was told "If you are in the US it is NTDOY", however I am in Germany (Frankfurt Börse normally through DeGiro) and I can't find that one.

When I look at DeGiro for Nintendo I find:

NINTENDO CO. LTD, NTO - Price: about 270€ per share

NINTENDO UNS.ADR 1/8/O.N, NTOA - Price: about 33€ per share, however, when I look at a five year timeline that is the same all five years, so no idea what that is for one.

So I'm wondering if anyone can help me out. I'm interested in Investing in Nintendo, would it be the NTO one? Or can someone please explain the difference and maybe tell me where I can find the "official" stock names for companies? Mostly since I assume I will run into more issues like this when looking at other companies. :D

    Thanks,
    Tobias

How to prepare for increasing volatility

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 04:25 PM PDT

As a complete novice, in the past few years I've focused on high growth tech stocks. Being from the tech sector I've only invested a small amount in the companies I have some technical knowledge about, and a lot of them have been growing steadily in the past few years. However recently I'm starting to see a lot of wild fluctuations in their prices more frequently.

Before this, I was contemplating increasing my investment in the stock market, but now, I'm not so sure. I'm considering selling everything and getting out completely.

Do you see an increase in volatility in the next few years? If so, what is a good way to invest in such an environment?
