Legal Advice [RESOLVED NE] HOA tried to take my land

[RESOLVED NE] HOA tried to take my land

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 11:22 AM PDT

So after 6 long months, everything been resolved. This is my final post regarding this, already asked my lawyer if I could post this and he said go ahead.

    So here's my last update:

    https://old.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/7go96c/ne_hoa_towed_away_my_car_and_built_a_chainlink/

So the HOA board got a lawyer to respond to my C&D and they requested a meeting ASAP with my lawyer present as well. I didn't want to go but my lawyer suggested me hear them out at atleast. At the meeting, I noticed there president and some of the higher ups were not there.

The board had no idea what the hell was happening and their lawyer was just as confused as them. After I laid out my timeline of events they thanked me for my time accepted all the financial burden of replenishing my pond, missing car (couldn't locate it), and damages.

I got checks for everything and got my pond restored back in April and didn't really think much of it.

I found out a few weeks ago from the new HOA president. Turns out the old president, tresaurer and someone else had been stealing money from the coffers. They wanted my land to expand and put in a pool, clubhouse and etc just as I saw on their website. The old board fined everyone a ton of money to get all the cash together and buy my land. Instead they spent it on themselves. They needed my land somehow so they thought they could just take over the land I wasn't using.

Long story short, their entire plan fell apart after I fought back and brought to the other members of the HOA attention what they were doing. From what I've been told, they had to sell their house to pay back the HOA and have since moved away. The HOA has offered me market value for my land and I do plan on selling since I really don't use the land for anything and the money isn't bad.

I did not file any complaints with the Postal inspector or anything, since the situation resolved itself. I got a new project car and for those asking it was a '98 Supra with a bad engine. My new project is a '67 Fastback that I plan on restoring to look like Elanor. :)

I want to thank a ton of redditors for chiming in with advice including a few from Nebraska.

/u/silvoan /u/immo406 /u/dracofaerie2 /u/whatarestairs and others that PMed with advice and support.

and lastly /u/20000to0 for advising me regarding nebraska laws and getting me in touch with his awesome lawyer(i guess mine now too)

TEXAS - I run a non-profit fundraising type group that focuses on men. Am I allowed to refuse entrance to women?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 07:44 AM PDT

That title is awful but here's the details -

The group I run was specifically setup because there is a female counterpart to our group that is running and successful in my area. Basically, we meet up to benefit a charity and ask our group members to support said charity, we're a fund raising organization for other charities, essentially.

The idea is that it's a fun night out for the guys, they get to drink a beer or two and our gimmick is that it's dudes only. We partner with a female equivalent and in the past, when women have asked to join we've directed them to that group and it's never been an issue. Recently, I've had a woman who would like to join and does not wish to join the female group, she's adamant that it's not right to deny her entrance to our group based on gender, which I totally understand.

The issue comes in because my board of directors and a lot of members have been very direct in the idea that this is for guys ONLY and half the allure is that it's a guys only group, again, there is something that is almost exactly the same for women which has been around longer, I started the group after realizing there wasn't a male option.

Am I allowed to enforce our rules on that or is that gender discrimination and could I be opening the group up to some unwanted legal action? I'm really trying to be nice about it but I'm just stuck on this one, I politely introduced her to the female groups and she very forcefully declined.

Woman tried to break my car window to save my dog from the heat, but the car, AC was on and door unlocked. Insurance won’t give me any information. Can I make them pay for the window? PA

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 06:04 PM PDT

UPDATE: I just spoke to a very nice police woman, and as soon as I mentioned the window smasher's name, she immediately knew who I was talking about. Apparently Smashy McWindows makes a habit of making big scenes in public and has called the police/had the police called on her many times in the last few months. This is the first time the officer was aware of her doing any serious damage during an outburst.

She said I could press charges against Smashy for vandalism and breaking and entering into a vehicle. Apparently, it doesn't matter what her intentions were if she was preparing to break into my car, it's still a misdemeanor she can be charged with.

Also, when I mentioned leaving the car idling, she laughed at me for even worrying about it. I guess it's not something they enforce on the regular.

Thank you for all the great advice and especially thank you to you guys who encouraged me to go to the police. I feel a thousand times better about the whole situation now that I know she's just genuinely crazy and looking for attention. Well, she's got it now!

    ———

This was about a week or so ago, right when it started getting really hot. I went into a craft store to pick up some clearance stuff I missed the day before, right next to the register and I could not have been away from my car more than 10 minutes. I left my dog with the car on and unlocked, ac on full blast, and water on the floor. Didn't leave a note but I didn't think I would have to since I left my car ON. Not just the battery, the engine was ON and it was blowing cold air. I wasn't worried about anyone stealing him or the car because I know the area really well, besides my dog is quite intimidating and I was only gone a couple minutes.

I walk outside and hear this young girl (early 20s?) saying "it's too hot!! It's dangerous!" to another older lady. And notice she's talking about my dog, who is sitting in the front seat of my car barking like crazy. He's clearly upset, scared and the back passenger window of my car is cracked. I realized this girl was in hysterics because she couldn't break my window and free my (TOTALLY FINE) dog. I think I got outside just before she called the police. I confronted her about it and she went nuts on me about leaving my dog in the heat. Didn't apologize or anything just lectured about the heat. I tried to explain that he was comfortable but she wasn't having it, she said it was her responsibility to save him (I get it but try the door handle first next time? Or just let the police handle it)

What are my options? I have her first and last name but that's all I got before she got too mad and just left yelling. I didn't get the other lady's name. Should I get a lawyer to try and contact her? This happened in PA but my insurance is in IL.

Edit: made a mistake, Insurance says they won't cover it as my plan only covers liability and collision damage

Edit 2: I now know it is illegal in Pennsylvania to leave the car idling, but I did a google search and from what I understand it's only illegal to keep a pet in a parked car in dangerous conditions i.e. extreme heat or cold. My dog was air conditioned and comfortable. Pennsylvania, however, does not have protections for good samaritans helping "abandoned" pets in parked cars, so from what I understand it was illegal for her to damage my window?

It's probably also cheaper to just get the window fixed, but I'm reasonably certain as to who this girl is and I would prefer to do something about it if only for the fact that my dog won't get in the car anymore and I want some kind of retribution so she understands what she did was harmful and she doesn't go around doing this kind of thing again, or thinking she did some great thing. She scared my dog to death smashing on the window and he doesn't even want car rides anymore. I guess my main question is, who do I contact, police or lawyer?

Edit 3: I am not asking about whether I should have left my dog in the car or not. I'm aware of the risks and I will never be doing it again, if I can even convince him to get in the car again in the first place. Please stop telling me I shouldn't have left him in the car. I'm 100% aware of my dog's temperature limitations and there will be no more car rides while I run errands. However, I now have a broken car window and a traumatized dog because a girl in a parking lot overreacted and didn't try my door handle. Do I have any legal recourse?

Final edit: I'm going to file a police report about the damage in the morning, just in case anything comes of it. Thank you for the advice!

One more edit: I'm also a woman, not sure why that's so important.

[NY]Apartment Complex doing Asbestos Removal in my building while I still live here?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 07:09 AM PDT

    I'll try to be succinct.

I live in a large, multi-building apartment complex in a large city. Back in January everyone in my building got notices that they would not be renewing our leases this year, as they're renovating our building, but we get 1st dibs on any apartments that they will have open when our lease is up. Since I like the location, and have never had any issues with the complex or the management company before, I went ahead and signed a lease for a nicer apartment with the same complex. I move tomorrow.

All week I've been having really bad breathing issues (I have severe asthma, generally controlled w/ medication barring major circumstances), but couldn't figure out why. I knew they'd started doing some work on the building, but it was mostly on the other side of the building.

I've taken this week off work to get all the packing done, and admittedly, haven't left my current apartment since Monday afternoon. This morning, I went to go take my trash out, and saw that someone's taped thick paper down everywhere, with plastic sheeting underneath. As I was walking back into my apartment, a worker ran up to me and told me that I couldn't go in there, they were doing asbestos removal. When I explained I still -lived- there, and showed him my paperwork, he immediately got on the phone with someone.

Apparently, the management company "forgot" that I was still in there, and the workers hadn't gotten to my end of the building yet and didn't know (you'd think they'd do a quick walkthrough to make sure there weren't any tenants still, even a quick "peek in to check for furniture" would have shown you that someone's still here.

They've halted work in the building, but I just got a call from the management office saying they're going to bill me for the loss of today's work because I'm still here? I called the main management company, as I have the paperwork showing 7/6 is the day I take possession of the new apartment, and 7/7 is the day my lease ends in this one, and I think this might have been someone from the local management office trying to CYA by threatening me. (which is weird, i've never had an issue with the local office before today).

Anyway, it's still pretty early this morning, so I'm not planning to do anything about it until I hear back from the main management company, but I just wanted to know if that's actually something they can charge me for, before I freak out about it.

illegal cannabis grow behind my ranch, the owner of that grow is using my mailbox and address

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 10:22 AM PDT

So my ranch has a parcel that is located three parcels behind it that is landlocked. These landlocked neighbors have a right-of-way easement through my property.

I recently discovered that these neighbors have been using my physical address, as well as my mailbox. They have been making sure to check the mail before anyone from my family gets home from work so we wouldn't notice.

They have a large-scale illegal cannabis grow which they were very upfront about.

I am pro-farmers and do not wish to get them in any trouble, but I fear that when they inevitably get raided, the cops might mistakenly believe that they live at my house since his voter registration (and presumably his driver's license) says he lives at my address, and he gets his mail (as well as growing supplies) delivered to my house. At this point I just don't know what to do. I don't want to call them in and report them because I really don't want any trouble, but I feel like if they keep carrying on this way that it will be trouble for me and my family.

We have told this guy NUMEROUS times that he is not to use our address and especially mail box and we keep getting his mail and have witnessed him getting his mail out of our mail box. We have been bringing it all to the post office with a return to sender, as well as we contacted the post office and told them not to deliver his mail to our house, and we even put a big laminated note on the mail box that says "only deliver mail addressed to these named________________________".

I suspect that he is doing this on purpose so if the county does attempt to raid his property, he will have a bit of a head start because they will think that he lives at my house on my ranch.

We are in the process of getting a locking mail box, but that isn't my main concern. My main concern is that my ranch could get raided as a result of him using my address instead of his own.

Sorry about the flair, I had no idea how to flag this???

edit: location Calaveras County, California we are a little bit famous for our cannabis legal battles at the moment.

Neighbor shot a mortar at my car, now my windshield is shattered and my hood is torn up

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 10:10 AM PDT

My insurance decided that they wont cover "firework explosion damage" because someone else was the cause and it wasnt a vehicle. The problem here is, I dont have any evidence of who did it. A house about 5 doors down has mortar pieces all over the yard and it very well known for being drunken rednecks, however I didnt physically see them do it. Two doors down from me has cameras set up pointed at the street (cars were being broken into so they installed those as a counter measure) but they wont be home until much later today and even then the footage might not have caught anything. I have also filed a police report, but I dont think thats going anywhere. Do I have any recourse here or do I just have to eat the cost of the repairs and try to move to a better neighborhood?

Edit: Location is Kansas, and here are pictures of the damage https://imgur.com/a/yDnzC3M

Nervous that abusive ex might still have my underage nudes, is there anything I can do?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 05:39 AM PDT

This all happened while I was living in California if it makes a difference. It started online when I was 14, he was 19. It ended when I was 17 and he was 21. At the time, I didn't see anything wrong with being with an older guy but now I wish it never happened. When I was 16 my mom let him move in with us (we were long distance before this). After a fight he moved away but we were still a "couple". He was very emotionally abusive throughout the relationship but it got worse when I eventually broke it off, I had to block his number (and his cousin's number, and his mom's number). He told me he was going to kill himself if we didn't get back together, that he was going to go back to doing hardcore drugs. He harassed me for months and months. He put images (not nudes) of me on an online imageboard with my info. He found my social media and tweeted me old images I had sent him of myself (underage) in very short shorts with self harm cuts on my thighs, and an image of his desktop with a folder of a bunch of pictures of me. I think he said he had a surprise or something like that. It's been over a year and I haven't heard from him, but it's really affected me. I'm an emotional wreck. I feel disgusted that I was ever involved with him, that I ever did sexual things with him. I have nightmares about him, I have panic attacks thinking about if he still has those images of me. Is there anything legal I can do to make sure he no longer has those images of me, even though he hasn't contacted me in so long?

My girlfriend of 7 years just raped me. Should I press rape charges?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 01:00 PM PDT

    UTAH, USA

I told her that all I was willing to do yet was a tease because of our previous blowout fight. She got on top of me and I told her no. She started grinding aggressively and I repeatedly told her to stop. She pinned down my shoulders and arms while wrapping her legs around me. I kept trying to throw her off while telling her to stop. She became more aggressive as I came then still kept going while my head was sensitive so I was in extreme pain until she was done.

EDIT: At hospital getting a rape kit while sobbing my eyes out. I love her so much but I'll never see or speak to her again. Now I'm waiting in a room to be tested for rape.

Threatened and death threat via txt (MI)

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 05:32 AM PDT

So I recieved a text this morning on my way from work from a number I don't know, making explicit threats to hurt me (terms used was "split your shit to the pink" and "get beat into the dirt")

I told them I think they have the wrong number. But alas, they had the right number, listing off finally where I lived and saying they are going to hurt me.

Then they used my name and said that them and their crew were going to make me "disappear"

Honestly, I don't believe this is a credible threat. They are trying so hard to sound hard and threatening.

I am going to the police after work.. But I guess my question really boils down to what are the police going to do? Are they going to take it seriously?

Apparently this stems from me messing around with someones girlfriend... I know who the girl is, because yesterday when I was suppose to netflix and chill, I found out beforehand she was leading me on, and was seeing other dudes, and I told her i'd have to turn her down.

Kooky foreclosed former homeowner keeps returning to property, what can I do?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 07:13 PM PDT

Connecticut. Little bit of a story here, apologies for the length but I feel I need to explain this story. I purchased a foreclosed home a year ago in a fairly nice rural area of CT and the day we moved in this elderly woman who was clearly drunk comes stumbling up the back steps of the property and introduces herself as the former homeowner. We were in the middle of carrying boxes back and forth but I politely chatted with her for a minute then shooed her off. Didn't think much of it, but after that a few times a week we would see her car do a slow drive by the house usually around 9pm, going maybe 10mph, and probably more often than we knew. Then she called the police on us for leaving our trash bins out too late in the day after pickup, we had literally just walked in the door from vacation and got to meet the local police.

So after a couple months of watching her do slow drives by our house, we come home one day to a handwritten note and her business card slipped under our back porch door (bear in mind there are two front doors and a mailbox, there was no reason for her to come onto the property and go to the back door) saying she wants my realtor's info and some documents from the sale of the house which she claims she needs or she's getting kicked out of her rent controlled apartment. I call bs since she was foreclosed on, and according to the neighbors she had abandoned the property about a year before foreclosure anyway.

Literally as we are standing in the driveway discussing how batshit she is and how to respond, she pulls into the driveway yet again and comes up to us and starts right in questioning me about the sale of the house, and my fiance and I tell her politely yet sternly to eff off. The next day I reported the incident to police.

So here we are a year later, she still does slow drives by the house although less frequently, I usually see her on weekends now, sometimes she just sits in her car across the street. This evening I happened to be out in the yard and I see her pull into the driveway again, taking her sweet slow time rolling up but when she saw me in the yard she backed out. She probably figured we would be out for the holiday or something. I intend to report it to the police tomorrow, but I'm wondering if there is anything else I can or should do in this situation? She hasn't really done anything harmful yet but I'm concerned for my three cats who are home alone all day. She is clearly mentally unstable and an alcoholic. Advice is appreciated.

Edit: Thank you all very much for commenting! Anyone have recommendations on security cameras/companies?

My employer won’t give me my tips after I left the job

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 08:19 AM PDT

I recently quit my job a few weeks ago to take a new one. I gave two weeks notice and everything. I live in Connecticut.

The way my workplace (restaurant) does tips is that they pool it all in a big bucket and after a while (2-3 months, I don't think they have a set time) they cash it out to everyone according to how many hours they worked.

I don't know when the next tip cash out is so I texted the boss to ask when I should come to pick them up. He says "because you quit, tips aren't available".

    Is this legal?

    Just Got Engaged, Prenup?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 08:29 AM PDT

Right now I feel like everything is going great with my partner- couldn't be going better! Then I think, how many people felt exactly like this at one point, but end up divorced somewhere down the line? So, I feel like I should go into things with my eyes open and at least ask some of these questions that are buzzing around in my head. In Texas.

I own a home without much equity. Love the house, but in all honesty I'm not too concerned with saying this is OUR home equally even though I may have about 25k in it already. If things went south the day after we married and she got half of that equity, I'm ok with that because I believe we're going to do a lot more together in terms of paying it down, etc than what I've already done. Not worth rocking the boat IMO

The area I'm more concerned over is my LLC. I operate a business with a business partner (we've owned 7 years) and we own our business' building (about 2.5-3 years of ownership)- which is held in the LLC. My concern would be that if things went south someday in my relationship, I would put my business partner and his family in a bind or that I'd be put in a situation where I lose my share of the business or the business' real estate and that would effect my career and livelihood as well as my motivation to work in, or on, my business. We have about 30% of the property paid off if that matters.

Any input? I assume I'll speak with a local attorney, what type of lawyer should I consult? Thank you.

Woman just walked into my home after I told her to wait inside. Claimed she was interested in buying my for sale home, used bathroom and left. Cops showed up but obviously not much then can do since no one knows who she was .

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 09:30 AM PDT

    Hi all,

So about fifteen minutes ago a woman knocked on my door and said she was interested in buying the home I live in. I am 18, this is my stepfathers home. When I told her to wait, she just walked in and started looking around. I am in New York, and I don't believe we have the castle doctrine here so I did not resort to violence and instead followed her around. She looked, took nothing, asked to use the bathroom (no medication in there, so I don't think she took that), and left. I had two guests over, she asked to try ones pants on (said no) and she just put one of there's flip flops on, took them off and left. Then, as I noticed that a green ribbon was tied to my door (which I cut down promptly), the cops showed up. Security guard from a nearby work site called after they saw a woman who was not familiar just walk in. Gave them a description, but now we have the critical issue of that I don't feel safe in my own home. I am in New York, do I have any right to injure someone who comes into my home and is non violent?

Friends lease ended yesterday and couldnt return key

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 06:47 AM PDT

NC - my friends lease ended yesterday (July 4) and the office for her to return her key was closed. She was unaware that the office would be closed, which her ignorance is her fault, but they are now charging her for additional days in the apartment after lease ended. She did not stay in the apartment on the 4th and would rather not have to pay them more, does she have any options?

    Landlord pops by

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 10:44 AM PDT

I came home from work today to find my door unlocked and my landlord sitting on my couch. He had an inspector there and he said he came by to let the inspector in (it was not an emergency for him to be there). I live in Maryland and our lease says he is allowed to enter "upon reasonable notice to the tenant". I'm kinda pissed. I just want to know my rights.

Boyfriend being taken to court to pay for a car he already returned

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 08:31 AM PDT

[resolved] (see edit 2) My boyfriend is an international student under an F1 visa, and took a car loan to buy a car that ended up being a piece of crap. He took it back, and they said he wouldn't have to pay anything anymore, but wouldn't get his money back. He signed a paper stating this, but didn't get a copy. Fast forward about 5 months, his brother gets a letter addressed to my boyfriend from the same company saying he has to show up in court because he owes over 10000 usd. They also tell him not to sell the car (?!). I'm freaking out and he's in shock. If he's forced to pay that, he'll have to leave the country and most likely won't be able to come back because of money, and won't be able to finish his education. We don't understand how these things work (I'm not American either, and things don't get this big that easily in my country). I don't know if he should go talk to them or not, because it's already being taken to court. He doesn't have money at all, neither do I, so I don't think we can pay a lawyer, and that's what has me more concerned (but if you guys tell me I have to, I'll try to find a way). What on earth can we do? Shouldn't the court be able to see that the car was sold again or something? He's sure they sold it to someone else. Please, help me guys Edit: we live in Utah Edit 2, resolution: I had some information wrong. The loan company was different than the dealership. However he did get ripped off by the dealership: the car was sold for 1500 usd (it was a very crappy car) and they had charged him over 8000 for it. He had payed about 2000 before returning it, and they took the 1500, so he was owning around 5000 plus the interest (a little over 6000). He talked to the ones that gave him the loan and they offered just get the rest of the value of the car and not the interests, and are going to finance it. I heard the conversation, and I hope he signed exactly what the guy told him. They can take half of the money he was paying per month, so he'll be paying ~150 per month until he takes care of the debt.
We have learned our lesson, I hope, but it makes me really mad that they took advantage of him like that (there's even more to the story with the dealership, and they are the worst). Thanks everyone.

Hello everyone! My husband and I recently purchased our first home in Illinois. While unpacking, we discovered that the previous owners left their daughters' birth certificates behind. We've reached out to our realtor and sent an email to the previous owners, but so far no one seems to be interested in getting these birth certificates back. We've been trying to get them to take them back for 2 weeks. I want to toss them in the mail with the previous owner's name and our address so they get forwarded, but my husband is worried we'll get into trouble if they get lost. Are there any legal issues with doing this? Is there anyone else I can try to return them to? Should I just destroy them? I'm planning on waiting another week to see if anyone wants to actually come get them, but I obviously want to avoid getting into trouble over this.

"No-Parking/Towing" sign put up next to where my car was parked after I went on vacation, any recourse?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 07:31 AM PDT

    Hello,

    USA, FL is the location

Basically parking around my neighborhood has been tough for the past few months because construction next to us closed off a bunch of parking spots (they said they would be done by April but that's almost certainly irrelevant). I'm also not allowed to park in our apartment's guest parking spots because I'm not a guest, and our apartment only has 1 spot which my gf uses.

Community has reacted to this by parking alongside a green fence the construction company put up to delineate the construction area, and this has been the status quo for a few months (at least February). Went on a road-trip on Monday 6/25 (have the car rental receipts if that somehow would prove anything) and just got back yesterday to find new signs all along the fence saying no parking and my car towed. Called my apartment complex and they said they had nothing to do with it, either call city or construction company. Towing company wants $250 and their position is obviously just "we were asked to tow a car, we towed a car, you owe us $250 and counting."

Question 1: Will I have any recourse for any kind of relief here? This situation seems pretty unfair, not disputing their right to put up a sign but if I had gotten an email or alert that they were doing this I obviously wouldnt park there.

Question 2: I'm probably going to go get my car no matter what later today as I obviously need it, but is there any situation in which I could theoretically get some relief/exception here but I ruined it by just going to pay and get the car? or is it safe to assume that if I can get some kind of a break I will be able to do it retroactively?

Thank you so much for your time. if I made any formatting mistake sorry, didnt see a formatting guide in the sidebar

PS - Dont have a lawyer but have legalshield? Called them and they are calling me back later, dunno if a strongly worded letter will make a difference here lol my law experience is as close to zero as you can get

Mother in law in her last year bonfire retirement and got a pink slip...

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 12:50 PM PDT

My mother in law is in her last year as an administrator at school in Ohio (public I think) and she has always had top marks in her reviews and never had any issues. She was planning on retiring after this school year. She is working longer then she wanted as her former catholic school (credits?) didn't transfer over. They are firing her for "restructuring and organizing". The superintendent is new. I doubt there is anything that can be done but I thought I would ask just in case? Apologies if this is better suited for another sub but I thought I would ask just in case. Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide.

Me and a few friends are in a dispute about money

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 05:07 AM PDT

Hello, I have a group of friends whom are all 18 and older and we live in Sweden. They had decided to travel to a different country to play poker at a casino as you can't do it at the age of 18 in my country. I didn't feel like coming since I'm not that good at card games etc. Anyways, they make person A pay for the entire trip since it was easier, and everyone else was going to transfer over their cut to him after he made the payment (I know, they should've paid their cut before he made it. But nothing they can do about it now).

However, here comes the problem. Whilst I was having a dinner with my family I told my mom, who is friends with everybodys else's moms in that group, about their little trip. When my mother talked with one of my friends moms about this, it turns out that she had no clue that her son was going away. I didn't know that my friend B had kept it a secret from his family. In the end, she of course got mad at B and didn't let him go.

In turn, only 4 out of the original 5 members in the group went. So one cut to my friend A hadn't been paid by my friend B since he couldn't come. And there is the problem. We haven't fought about this, but there is clearly a disagreement. Friend A thinks it's my fault since I indirectly told B's mom about it. But I didn't know that he had kept it a secret. What should we do?

    EDIT: Grammar.

NY/NJ- Father stopped paying child support after mother died

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 10:58 AM PDT

Hi- long post I will try to condense:

Parents separated when I was born, lived with mom and stepdad. Dad paid child support for my sister and I separately (when she went to college he just gave her the money, allegedly. He never did but this is not about that per say)

So my mom died jan 28 2013, i was 17. Their agreement said he had to pay child support until my sis and I were each 21- He stopped paying two months after my mom died.

On top of emotional abuse and general shittiness, this just is the icing on the cake. My stepdad and I lost our home, and now that I'm in college (had to work for 2 years) it's gotten worse.

Important note: his father died leaving each of the grandchildren money to be used for school, or for whatever we want when we turn 30. My dad has never shown my sister or I a statement of the funds, told us how much it is, or anything. I know he has reimbursed himself from my sisters funds (for gas and hotels to go visit her at school). I don't have a doubt that he is taking money from these accounts.

Wondering if I can sue for back-owed child support? I'm 22 now. Really this all is new to me- so just wondering if this is even an option. What would even happen with the trust fund stuff at that point? I dont know if it matters but the child support money would go to my eating disorder clinic ($90 a week) and general cost of therapy/meds and living.

Sorry for a lot of text- if any clarification is needed please let me know. I never thought it would get to the point where I'd consider legal action against my father so I'm kinda at a loss for words.

FL- received Notice to Owner for a job that I already paid for in full.

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 11:54 AM PDT

Update: (2)(a)"The notice must be served before commencing, or not later than 45 days after commencing, to furnish his or her labor, services, or materials, but, in any event, before the date of the owner's disbursement of the final payment after the contractor has furnished the affidavit under subparagraph (3)(d)1."

I think this is my out clause- I received the notice after the job was complete and all payments were made- they didn't notify me in time.

Original: I posted a little background on this job a few weeks ago. Long story short the contractor who seemed legit ended up being a little shady and we had some trouble with the job. In the end everything got completed and he was paid in full (although he didn't finish the job correctly, I still just let him leave and I fixed everything myself). I have a paid in full receipt.

Now, I am receiving a Notice to Owner from a supplier that he used that they have not been paid for the pavers (the check bounced) and they will be coming after me in the form a a lien to get their money if he dosn't pay in the next 30 days (they havn't been able to contact him for 2 weeks). This is absurd- I paid my end of the contract- why I am liable to pay double if the supplier entered an agreement with a contractor where they would accept a check? I did not sign any documents with the supplier.

Not really sure what to do here- do not want a lien put on my home, and I absolutely will not be paying again for something that I paid for already. Bringing in lawyers is crazy and just shouldn't be my responsibility in this- the owner and the supplier should be dealing with this. WTF Florida law? They list statute section 713.06 as their justification for coming after me.

Odd droning noise underneath apartment is almost unbearable.

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 06:28 AM PDT

I live in an apartment in Wisconsin and me and my significant other have noticed this odd droning noise coming from what we believe to be underneath our apartment. This noise seems to vibrate throughout the unit and starts in the very early morning and doesn't quit until later in the day. Its sort of like a pulsating sound coming from some sort of machine. It's come to a point to where we can't even sleep sometimes and we also have a baby on the way. We've tried to have a fan or a tv on to block out the noise but it is so loud it doesn't matter. My question is if we have any rights when it comes to this problem. Perhaps moving to a different unit or something along those lines? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
