My ex is wanting to date a sex offender. Need advice

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 04:04 AM PDT

Hi, So my ex has brought it to my attention that she is wanting to pursue relationship with this guy and asked if I would write a statement saying im okay with my daughter being around him and I told her hell no. so shes going off the deep end saying shell just get a judge to approve it and what not. We live in indiana, He is from kentucky. I thank she plans on going on vacation with him and has plans to move him up her or try to move down there anyways, His charge is Sexual abuse when he was 19 and the victim was 12. Hes 28 now. He served 5yrs for this and has to register for 20. She said that the case makes it out worse than it is and wants me to read the files and the letter the girl wrote when she turned 18 saying He didnt do anything. (i dont believe there is a letter since my ex has already lied about alot of this to me. Is there any legal action i can take to make sure my daughter isnt around him? i honestly cant believe i even have to have this conversation with her, and am dumbfounded about how mad she got with my response. Also I found out my daughter isn't biologically mine when she was 4 she's 7 now. Can she use that against me?

[UPDATE 2] How do you get someone to leave who just moved in? [NC]

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 05:26 AM PDT

    Original post

    First Update

Let me start off by saying this has been so much more complicated than it really should've been. My leasing office outright refused to do anything involving evicting him even though I kept in constant contact with them. So it became my responsibility to prove I was his landlord in the eyes of the law so I could have the authority to get him evicted.

I contacted 2 lawyers, the only ones in my city that offered a free consult (the bar association in NC is useless btw, it's $50 to be matched up with a lawyer and that goes towards initial consult fees for 30 minutes). Anyways, one lawyer was super rude and told me I had no case and the other lawyer told me I was doing everything correctly and had a decent shot of winning. Back to square one because I was even more confused.

I served him 7 days notice to leave last Monday and he vacated the premises two days ago but left some of his stuff behind. Since his stuff is worth less than $750, I posted "suspected abandonment" notices on the front door and inside the apartment saying he's got 10 days to get in contact with me to come get his stuff otherwise it's going to Goodwill for 30 days. I also changed the locks primarily because he's obviously gone but also because he gave his keys to a complete stranger and stole from my roommate. He also disconnected his phone number and stiffed me on utilities but he's GONE!

As for the leasing office, when I wasn't sure if I could evict him, I went over the property manager's head to the management company and apparently the property manager got reamed out for giving this guy keys. From now on, the office needs written permission to let people move into our apartment. I feel a little bad but not too bad since they also told this guy that me charging him a deposit was illegal, which made things worse, so they're a complete mess over there.

Wanna-Be "Influencer" Harassing Businesses, Residents and Visitors [Maryland]

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 08:05 AM PDT

There is a self-styled, wanna-be Instagram/Snapchat influencer who is trying to build his followers by harassing people in our neighborhood. Here are some examples of things he has recorded and posted to the 'gram:

*Crashing a wedding and brazenly stealing people's drinks. *Approaching random people on the street and kissing them against their will. *Walking up to random people, saying vulgar things about them, and not leaving them alone until police arrive.

What's discouraging is that the police are usually called and just tell him to move along, despite his name and behavior being well-known to police supervisors. It's gotten to the point where people in the neighborhood are going somewhat vigilante--someone destroyed the harasser's cellphone, but the vigilante was in turn arrested and has a court date later this month.

IANAL so I'm using harassment in the everyday use of the term--I don't know what the legal threshold is. Local businesses have banned him after his antics, but there has to be a way to take collective action against him instead of one-by-one getting thrown out of places, right?

Non-legal remedies such as reporting his videos to Instagram have not yielded desired effects. I have not been harassed, but what can I do to work towards putting an end to this kind of behavior?

    Asshole parking

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 09:43 AM PDT

Today the owner of an establishment in A Denver Suburb (Colorado) was wrongfully parked in the handicapped spot (I am disabled with placard). I was informed that he "can park wherever he wants, its his parking lot." If it is in fact private property or not I cannot say.

If it is private property, are they:

A.) required to have the spot

B.) required to honor its use

I will state that I requested the staff inform the owner of the vehicle that he was in fact an asshole for doing so and was told to seek another vet (because its my dogs fault). So I am admittedly salty.

However, my main focus is if, in fact, private parking lots are able to supersede ADA requirements for accessibility.

(NL)3 years ago i was in a accident with another car and both of the insurances said it was not my fault. Now 3 years later the guy is suing me with a whole other story and my insurance screwed me over

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 03:40 AM PDT

Long time lurker first time poster, advise needed and thanks for reading.

So 3 years ago i was in a car accident with somebody. He was driving over the speedlimit on a icy road and could not brake in time and ended up hitting my tail. Everything went fine and no one got hurt. We filled in the insurance papers and went our way. Couple months later the insurances talked it out and told me that i was in the right and closed the case. I got my money, fixed my car happy ending. Atleast that's what i tought.

3 years later i get a note from the court that i'm being summoned because the guy is suing me. He changed the whole story saying that i tried to pass him from left and tried to slide my car into a parking ( wich is impossible because the road was way to small to fit 2 cars next to each other ) and he had no time to react. He even changed some information on the original insurance papers and tried to make it look like it was my fault. So i call my insurance and tell them that he is trying to get free money from me and they told me not to worry and they will go to court for me and defend the case.

Now i got another note stating that we lost the case because no one showed up to court. I called my insurance again asking them what happend and they said that they are gonna pay the guy because they are to scared to defend because they think the guy will win anyways. But they never paid him and now my bank accounts are frozen. When i called the insurance again i get a lady on the phone and ask her to put me trough to the guy who has been "helping" me and she does. Then the phonecall disconnects and i think o well it happens and call back. Then i get the same lady on the phone and when i asked for the guy again, she told me she doesn't know anybody by that name(??) and when i asked again she told me he is on vacation and will be back on monday.

I personally think that they forgot to go to the court meeting and now i'm getting screwed over, any advise on what i can do now and is there a possibility i can get back to these people? ( guy suing me and insurance )

Dog was attacked at kennel, RI

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 03:31 AM PDT

So my 6 month old golden retriever puppy was attacked at her kennel two days ago. I got a call from a kennel employee saying my puppy attacked another small dog during play time and it was unacceptable. I apologized profusely and asked if I should pick her up immediately. Kennel employee said no but if it happens again she's banned. when I pick her up that night, manager is waiting for me and is apologizing for my dog being attacked and bandaged her the best she could. I said I was told she attacked a dog. He explained she was "annoying" another very old dog and was attacked and there isn't a mark on the other dog. Well here I am $900 in vet bills later and the kennel can't get their story straight. Now the owner said he is reviewing the tapes which are broadcasted on webcam live daily, but wont let me see them, wont give me the other dog owners info, and I bring my dog to the kennel at my own risk but he may ban the other dog.

What can I do at this point? My dog isnt aggressive so I'd like to see the tapes. I also feel like the other dog owner should pay for half of her vet bills since they keep going up. The police obviously have better things to do than deal with small dogs biting each other.

[FL] Former Employer Threatening to Sue Again After I Suddenly Quit the Web Development Job 3 Months Ago

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 05:43 AM PDT

    So, the backstory:

I used to work for a company as a web developer. I had begun developing a level of burn out that was actively affecting my coding speed and my health. During the second to last project, I tried to quit, but the employer appealed to my sense of humanity.

The final two projects reached the point where me and the employer considered things to be completed, and I went off to take my vacation. About a week and a half later during my vacation, I'm told that an issue popped up, where the employer didn't understand a feature he wanted and said it was critical that it was working right. I tried to perform some adjustments, but because of the distressed state he was in, it was difficult to properly communicate how to make what he wanted to work the way he wanted.

After this, combined with my burnt out state and realization that the employer did not actually verify that everything he wanted was taken into account on a project that was done for months, I wound up snapping. I sent him an email saying that I was quitting, apologized for its abruptness, and I needed to leave because of how much the job was affecting my health. I ignored any communication for a period of time, but I finally responded to emails asking for website login information (which the employer had easy access to) and if I was willing to speak to the new coder, which I asked for their email. Received no response until after the weekend when I receive an email midday, giving me 3 hours to comply with their demands or I face litigation.

Because of the short timespan, I missed the time limit, and expected to see something when I returned from a trip. I received nothing from the employer or any lawyers, however, and figured it was either an empty threat or the employer decided he actually took into consideration the sacrifices I made for the company the year before. Until today, 3 months later.

I get a call from the lawyer saying that I have 3 options:

    • - go back and fix the previous project's problems
    • - hire someone to fix the previous project's problems
    • - pay back all the money that was put into the project to recode the entire project from scratch

Considering the anxiety I developed from working from the employer and the fact that I'm still feeling burnt out, I can't go back, nor would I want to. The lawyer said he's going to call again this Friday to discuss matters again, specifically on an amount money that I can possibly scrounge up from thin air that'd be enough to satisfy them.

Extra bits of information: The only thing I had ever signed for the company was an NDA-type thing that also says that anything I make for the company is theirs (I've already deleted all of my work related files off my computer). Any money I had received from the company before the final two projects were according to invoices I sent. The money from the last two projects were basically amounts of money every so often to keep me afloat (despite the fact that I ran out of savings and credit because it wasn't enough).

I suppose the obvious answer here is "lawyer up", but as a meek person with no money and dislikes confrontation, I figured I'd ask for thoughts. Also, if this did go to court, and if it went into the employer's favor, would I be legally bound to work for them again?

URGENT: Travel without physical green card?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 08:50 AM PDT

    Ummmm...

I'm supposed to catch a 2:59 flight to South Africa, and we thought it was all set.

But, come to find out, my mom mistook the working permit for my green card.

My mom had gotten a green card, and it was assumed that I, her child (I'm 17 years old), would get a green card too.

So I have a few questions:

    1. How can I check if I do have a permanent residence status?
    2. Are there ways of circumventing the green card requirement upon reentry?
    3. Is it true that the children of an adult automatically get a green card along with their parents?

    Things aren't looking too bright

UPDATE [2:04 PM, 7/4/18]: I found my green card in a hidden compartment in my drawer, haha... I am now at the airport waiting for my flight with everything set up and aligned! Thank you very much to all who took their time to inform me of the necessity of a physical green card. It was a hectic few hours, but all is good :)— cheers!

Only hot water in my apartment and I can't take a shower

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 08:55 AM PDT

I moved into an apartment in south pasadena, ca 3 weeks ago, and the cold and hot water seem fine in other rooms, but only the shower has hot water and no cold. It's been unbearable to take showers and it's giving me welts on my skin from the temperature. The property manager said he contacted the owners but they haven't found a problem so they have been taking their time, or not doing anything for weeks. This is the 3rd week I've had to "shower" in the sink. Do I have any rights? Who do I contact to get this resolved? Thanks in advance for your replies

I'm in training for a restaurant, working 6 days a week at 60 hours a week. Salaried employee. I called out for one of my 6 shifts last week and was told I would have to make that day up or they will dock my pay for one day. Is this legal even though I still got well over 40 hours for the week?

Grandmother is refusing to return kids at designated time per parenting plan (?).

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 10:25 AM PDT

Washington state. The parenting plan i have with my ex states that he gets them for 4th of July (today). Our normal drop off is 9am and pick is 7pm. The holiday schedule says nothing about times though, just the day. The childrens grandmother (their dads mom) is now refusing 7 and wanting to drop them off at 9pm instead. I dont agree, I have them on a set schedule and 9pm is way past their bedtime.

What do I do if I show up at 7 and theyre not there?

[CO] Train routinely blocks traffic for 30+ minutes at a time.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 11:50 AM PDT

Basically what the title says. There's a railroad track that runs through the town I live in. Multiple times a week, a train will stop on the tracks, and remain there, blocking multiple major roads, for anywhere from 15-45 minutes. Residents often try to go around the train, however the train is usually very long, and our town surrounded by farmland, so the roads we might use to go around it are privately owned. You either have to drive an additional 20 minutes to go around it, or wait for it to move it.

Is there a limit to how long a train can block the road?

    (Oklahoma) Sexual Harassment

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 08:33 AM PDT

Hello all, I'm a 22yo male. 6 months in to my first job as an accountant at a small company with plans to get married in September to my female fiance and start my masters so I can sit for the CPA. For the past 4 months my (35-40yo) male boss who is married to a woman and has 3 kids has been making sexual comments to me. The final being "I bet I could find your butthole. I had crazy parties back in my day where we would put peanut butter on each other's butthole". I have kept a log with screenshots over the past three months (three pages long) if similar comments. I gave the log to our HR rep and explicitly stated I strictly wanted it on the record, wanted complete confidentiality, and that I had not approached him about it yet. Against my will HR approached him, showed him my log, and told them it was me who filed the case against him. I share a wall with our HR rep and heard both of them and our CFO laughing in their office. Shortly after I was called in and was told that my boss "took things very professionally and there would be no issues moving forward". This is not his first offense and no punitive measures were taken to my knowledge. I was told that I must maintain complete confidentiality and was not allowed to speak of what happened. I now feel that I can't work directly with this boss. Our accounting department is less than 5 people so I can't transfer. Is there any legal recourse for me, or any type of severance? I feel financially stuck because of my impending masters program and wedding. I am infinitely more uncomfortable at work and dread even going. I can't talk to any coworkers about the event because I feel I will be fired. Thank you in advance for your help.

[NJ] Got a cell phone ticket, now want to subpeona phone records

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 07:38 AM PDT

I am representing pro se and my wireless carrier [cricket wireless] refuses to send me my cellphone records unless they have a subpeona. My initial findings concerning subpeona for NJ meant that I should go to superior court and let the court clerk handle it(I went to the municipal clerk). However, I find this on the NJ website 1:9-1 saying: "a subpoena may be issued by the clerk of the court or by an attorney or party in the name of the clerk."

As the party to the accusation, does that mean I can just sign off on the subpeona in the clerk's name and send it to cricket wireless? Without any records within the superior court's office needed? And without being said that the subpeona is fraudulent?

Btw, I'm doing this just to avoid the $50 fee that the clerk will be charging me if I went to superior court.

Here is the relevant website: https://www.judiciary.state.nj.us/courts/superior/subpoenas.html

Parent used my name for electricity bill. Now I owe money and it's in collections. My credit report/score has already been hit.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 02:58 AM PDT

Long story short, I never gave my parent permission to use my name, and I think the only way I can get them to remove it is if I file a police report against my parent. I kinda don't want it to come to that. I also fear that they have done other things with my identity as well, but so far, the only thing I noticed was the electricity bill. NC USA

Caught maintenance guy entering my apartment numerous times while I was away

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 11:33 AM PDT

    WA state.

I am renting an apartment in a pretty pricy and nice complex. I had to go out of the country for a month and I informed the leasing office because I needed them to hold my packages or mail, in case I got any while I was away. Since this was the first time I was away for so long, I installed one of those small cameras that start recording when they detect motion. I have an app on my phone that alerts me if the camera starts recording. Of course, I didn't expect it to go live because I knew nobody was supposed to be in my apartment.

To my surprise, the app alerts me during my second week away. I open it and, lo and behold, maintenance guy (I can see his name tag clearly) enters, looks around in every room, turns the TV on, opens the fridge, grabs something, lays on the couch for a bit and then gets called somewhere (probably) and leaves. I couldn't believe my eyes but I did not email the complex. Instead, I waited. My trip was cut short for unrelated reasons so I ended up coming home after just 2.5 weeks. On the day I was flying back, camera starts recording again. This time, TWO maintenance guys come in, grab some snacks and juice, watch some TV then leave. Like last time, everything lasted for about 15 minutes. They didn't steal anything besides food.

Anyway, I'm home now and furious. I saved the videos on my computer, made copies on CDs and now I'm asking for advice on how to proceed. I obviously wanna bring this to the office but I want to know what's the best way to do so. Email? In person? Writing a letter? Secondly, I want to know what my demands should be. I want to ask for free rent until my lease is over (9 months), except for utilities. I am ready to hire a lawyer and sue them if they reject my request. I am also ready to go public with the tapes and show others what living in this "luxury" complex is like. What should my next steps be? Thanks!

Unknown caller has been calling my girlfriends phone for months, they know what she looks like, her mother as well as her name and mine.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 06:08 AM PDT

(California) My girlfriends mother lost her phone or had it stolen about a year ago, she didn't have a lock on it so the criminal had access to text messages, photos, names, social media etc..

At the time her mother didn't feel it was necessary to report it stolen because it was a cheap phone, and she replaced it within a few days.

Ever since then my girlfriend has received multiple, sometimes 30 missed calls from someone who is obviously male, we assume he's Hispanic after we heard his voice. The guy asks questions like; Where is your mom (name), Can you send me a picture of you naked, Can I be your daddy?, and a slew of other dirty weird things.

She even assumes that he masturbates on the phone, leaves voicemails making noises and breathing heavily sometimes not saying a word. It's been going on for quite some time now, and we aren't really sure what to do. I thought me answering the phone and speaking in my native language would stop him from calling, but if he hears me answer he will just hang up and call again hoping she answers.

The easier thing would be to change her number, but she's had this number over 10 years and doesn't necessarily want to start over with a new one. We have thought about taking it to the police but we have no idea who this person could be, and since no one is being hurt I highly doubt they would look into it further. I'm not sure if there are IT professionals who would be able to figure out where this person may be located, and use that to build a case?

Like I said it's been going on for months now, and every single day she has missed calls, and voicemails from this unknown person.

My landlord makes me keep my dog outside in the yard and now he is mad at me for my dog's pee killing the grass. If the grass doesn't recover in a month will I be liable for any damages? [CO]

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 12:22 PM PDT

My lease is over in a month. It has killed the grass in several spots but the entire yard isn't wrecked. Honestly I don't even know if he could prove that my dog's pee is the cause just because there are some dead spots in the front yard too where my dog never goes.

fired from a job today for a contaminated test

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 01:54 PM PDT

    This is in Utah.

My husband was fired today. He has been with his company for 5 years (this is his 6th year) due to a contaminated blood test result, which made the results "inconclusive".

Last week my husband explained that his work had found beer cans in the bathroom. They pulled the tapes and gathered everyone who had used the restroom during the specific time of when the trash was empty to when custodial person found the cans.

They required everyone to do a blood test. My husband complied. He let me know what happened, and we even laughed at whoever would be dumb enough to drink alcohol at the job.

    Well jokes on us apparently.

My husband got home today (he works night shift) this morning he was pulled into HR, and they told him because the test was contaminated and "inconclusive" that it was enough for them to let him go. He and one other person were fired for this because their test results came back inconclusive.

As you can imagine, my husband is extremely upset by this. They are wanting to make an example out of what will happen if you break company policy. I am 100% my husband did not drink.

Utah is obviously an at will state---but is there anything we can do? Is there anything that can be done or are we just shit out of luck?

Thank you for your time for reading this, I appreciate any advice.

BOSTON, MA: Landlord suing me and 3 roommates from 2013 for "unpaid rent" - it's been 5 years, AND WE PAID THE RENT!

    Posted: 03 Jul 2018 07:19 PM PDT

    Location: Boston, MA

tl;dr: My landlord from 2013 sued me and my 3 roommates for "unpaid rent" even though we have all the checks to prove that we were paid up when we moved out. We went to court 8 times and the judge ruled in our favor - denied w/ prejudice. Now 3 years after the judge ruled, we received a motion to dismiss from our old landlord and he is claiming he is disabled and was unaware of the denied ruling the past 3 years.

What are the chances that we have to go through this all over again?

What are the first next steps? I've written an opposition to his motion and we will be filing it on Thursday. Looking for any suggestions at all!

    The dirty deets:

In 2012 -2013 I had a lease for an amazing, gorgeous duplex in Roxbury, MA. I had 3 roommates, I had just graduated college and all was well in the world.

Our lease was from June 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013.

Each of us tenants paid rent via personal check separately on our own time. One of our roommates ("RB") immediately started bouncing personal checks. He was good for the money, but poor at managing his account and this - rightfully so- pissed off our landlord.

The landlord immediately starts retaliating and doing illegal things like:

-Not returning any security deposits from all tenants on 2011 - 2012 lease (I lived there for 6 years so that included me, even though he demanded a new security with the 2012-2013 lease)

-Refused to fix things that are broken (leaky faucet, faucet that didn't work, oven that would not open, etc)

-No longer allowing personal rent checks and demanding rent be paid via 1 bank transfer

-Mid lease (9/1/2013) sends a new lease over stating we can no longer have pets, and rent to be increased by $400/month (we did not sign)

We all began immediately looking for new housing for the end of our lease and continued to pay the rent specified in our signed, legally binding lease and continue on with our lives.

March 2013: Landlord writes an email saying he will no longer accept April rent. Calls "RB" and says he wants us all out by the end of April (instead of when lease ended May 31)

April 2013: April 4th we receive a 14 day notice to quit, and requests due rent (aka money from RB's bounced checks). We pay ALL RENT via Cashier's Checks, confirm their receipt (landlord emailed us to confirm he got them).

-April 17th 2013 : He then asks for me help defending him in the case against my previous roommate & I declined (she sued him for not returning her security deposit after 4 months of not living there and not following Security Deposit law) . This pissed him off even more and continually threatened me with a lawsuit since I did not agree to testify in court on his side since he had not followed the law and all that jazz.

May 20th 2013- Landlord files execution on possession of a dwelling & execution on money judgement totaling over $13,000!!!! At this point, we had already moved out - and paid ALL RENT.

YES, there were bounced checks from RB, but we ensured that all monies were paid and we had moved out like he asked yet he still decided to take us to court.

May 2015: Long story long (ugh, I know), he went through 5 lawyers, failed to show, and we had all of the proof of payment. Case with denied with prejudice in May 2015.

June 30, 2018: Just received a motion to dismiss the denial from the ruling THREE YEARS AGO. He is now claiming he is disabled and has had medical issues (April 2016 though according to his motion) which is why it has taken him 3 YEARS AND 19 DAYS to file this motion.

In fantastic fashion, Last month I threw out my 2" binder which housed all my court documents, all my proof, all my bank statements, everything - because I thought I was crazy for holding on to it for 3 full years. I looked up the statute of limitations and thought I was in the clear. Now I have to go back to court this month.

I do not know what to expect, I don't know what I need to do other than to file an opposition to his motion. What are the chances that the judge has sympathy for this "disabled" liar & sends me and my 3 roommates through the ringer again?!?! I just want to be done with this and not have my credit be garbage for something I did not do. :(

Asking for Advice: Friend is stuck in a domestic abuse marriage with 2 kids and 1 on the way

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 07:08 AM PDT

Brief story: My best friend has been trying to figure out how to get out of her marriage, knowing she'll be a single mom of 2, with 1 on the way, maintaining a job and nursing school. Her husband has physically abused her about 4 times in the last year, with the most recent being last night and her 9 year old son took the responsibility of calling the cops on his step dad. The emotional abuse is every day now.

What is the best course of action for her to start getting out without spending a fortune? (Myself and other coworkers are starting a gofundme to help her get out)

This in the state of Florida

Wondering if I have any case or if I should just let it go, police raid.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 07:32 AM PDT

So i live with my girlfriend and her family, yesterday they did a no-knock raid on the house, flash grenades breaking windows tearing up the entire house etc. To find another family members drugs. This is in Texas.

So yeah whatever I assume they had a warrant and all that. During all this they hurt my girlfriend though, she has this giant bruise on her back and knot on her head, headache wont go ahead cause as they had us laying down they literally stepped on her head and back for no reason. I don't think it was necessarily purposeful or out of anger or anything but she was laying down and they obviously saw her.

No one besides two people (Gfs brother and his GF) were arrested or charged with anything but I'm just wondering if it's even worth pursuing the damage to my gf or not.

Besides that, when they were already inside they broke windows from the inside for no reason. Shot at my dog who was doing nothing and is now traumatized...My GFs mother doesn't speak english and it was just white people so they pressed a gun to her head (they all had assault rifles or something..) and they forced her arms back to zip tie her, but she has a broken arm so it further worsened that since it's not even able to bend and they "forced" it to bend..

I do not think the two that got arrested will be coming back to live here, they are going to get legal eviction etc and restraining orders hopefully but the dad who wasnt there is in denial and stuff, and the police specifically said that the brother was "a thorn in their side" and that they would just keep coming back over and over if he came back to live here because they don't want him in this city.

I have no idea what is within their rights and how far something has to go before its brutality or whatever. Just wondering if I should try to get a lawyer and go forward or just let it go and take this as a loss.

If any more information would help you with answering please ask.
