Silly question on auto insurance expiration

    Posted: 31 May 2018 03:53 PM PDT

My apologies If this post comes off as idiotic, but my auto insurance expires tomorrow (6/1/18). Does this mean I can drive up until 6/2, or am I only insured until 5/31 11:59pm? The policy is with progressive. Thank you

Insurance company denied claim because we prevented our porch from collapsing

    Posted: 31 May 2018 06:54 AM PDT

2 weeks ago our porch popped and separated from the house while my pregnant wife and I were under it. We ran inside and watched it getting lower and lower, so i went to my neighbor's house to ask him what to do (he's a contractor) while my wife called the insurance company. We took action and propped the roof up, making it stable enough so it wouldn't collapse & cause more damage in the short term, but realistically the planks placed should hold indefinitely even though it's obstructing the usable area of the porch.

Fast forward, the claim adjuster denied the coverage because the structure was basically still standing, seemingly ignoring the temporary wooden planks placed to hold the roof up and considering them as part of the original structure, although i can bet he took pics of them.

Really not sure what to do in this situation or if i'm out of luck for taking action. It seems like there's a bunch of language that could be used against us if we were to remove the planks and make the roof drop now knowing he probably has pics of the "supports".

I'm located in TX. Thanks for any advice.

Choosing a health insurance package for the first time.

    Posted: 31 May 2018 04:23 PM PDT

Pretty much I'm new to all of this, and am looking at my options. One has a monthly premium of around $85, on top of the deductible of $6300.

So - will I be paying the deductible regardless? Or if only something big - like a surgery - comes up?

I'm kinda lost on choosing which one to go with as there are a bunch of packages to choose from - some with no deductibles at all, but higher premium, high premium, low deductible, etc.

[USA] I know an HSA will cover prescription glasses, but that does that include express shipping for it too?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 08:14 PM PDT

Looking to get prescription glasses from the online shop, Zenni Opticals. I was wondering if it's okay to use my HSA card for express shipping ($20) as opposed to standard shipping ($5)?

[FL] Commercial Vehicle Insurance Renewal/NonRenewal Notification Requirements

Small wreck JUST happened. Guy hit back of me at red light. Minor Damage. What to do now?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 03:43 PM PDT

So this is my very first wreck. I was stopped at a red light. He hit the back of me. Only easily viewable damage for both cars is indentions on bumper and some paint chipped. I can tell my car has at least internal bumper damage though.

We drove to a parking lot and exchanged insurance info. I did not call the police as it is very minor damage and no injuries. I didn't take pics of his car, i did take pics of mine in the parking lot. He told me obviously it's his fault. He doesn't seem like the type of guy to say it was my fault, he was very nice. I called his insurance and told them he was at fault and they generated a policy number. I just filed an online claim with my insurance (usaa) and put that I am not requesting my insurance to pay for it, obviously.

I should be getting a call from my insurance agent soon to discuss it. Anything else I should do right now? HIS insurance also gave me the number for his agent after the person i talked to generated a claim number.

Secondary credit card rental car insurance questions

    Posted: 31 May 2018 12:16 PM PDT

    Hi all,

My mother recently rented a car through Alamo using Costco and paid for it with her Costco Anywhere Visa and declined the CDW. While I was driving it (she did pay for me to be an additional driver), I accidentally scraped the mirror against the wall of a narrow parking garage and took off a tiny bit of paint. We haven't received any bill yet but I'm trying to figure out what to expect.

Since the rental car insurance provided by the Costco Anywhere Visa is secondary, I understand that we need to go through our normal car insurance first. However, we only have liability and no collision/comprehensive and thus our regular car insurance wouldn't cover this incident (if I'm understanding everything correctly). In this case, would we be able to file directly through the insurance through the card then? According to the benefits guide, the policy covers what our others do not. Since we're not covered by our primary car insurance, will the Costco card cover it?

    Thanks for any help!

Does anyone have experience with SURE Insurance (sureapp)?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 05:13 PM PDT

I need to get watch insurance but Jewelers Mutual denied me, potentially because of my credit score (annoying). I found an app called SURE (www.sureapp.com) during a Google search, and they are underwritten by Markel. Does anyone have any experience with either company? I just need to insure on vintage watch. Just want to make sure they aren't going to screw me should I ever file a claim.

    Rapid flu swab costs

    Posted: 31 May 2018 12:06 PM PDT

    Hi everyone -

I have a bill here for my recent visit to the walk in clinic.

I was curious about these charges as they look quite expensive for a 3.5 hr visit, which I received about 25 minutes of actual care.

All vitals were taken and they said it was normal. I didn't know what I had at that point but I literally felt like I was going to keel over. The doctor said "well let's do a rapid flu swab test and we'll see." It came back positive for influenza b. Prior to coming in I had the worst sore throat of my entire life and I could barely pick myself up off the couch, I had a 103 F fever for 2 days prior and it persisted for 11 days after the visit.

After getting the bill I was shocked that a flu swab test cost damn near $300 - I have no idea what "office visit 4 estab" means, but I was not there to establish care, I had already done that on prior visits.

Here is a pic of the bill https://i.imgur.com/DOs15E9.jpg

Please help me understand or make sense of it, I am seeing the same flu swab test for $50-80 everywhere else.

I have no issue paying this, I just want to be sure I'm not being taken advantage of.

Is it possible to insure 1 vehicle between four drivers who have no familial relationship?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 03:40 PM PDT

    Hi,

So me and my buddies are thinking about buying a cheap manual rwd car to mess around with this summer and sell before school. We would buy an older RWD manual car for around 1000-1500.

While that is not a concern, insuring it is. We would only get liability as any damage caused by us to the vehicle isn't worth paying extra for. Now we all live in different areas of the state and the car would spend its time equally at all four of our houses. We all live in rural/suburban areas.

Is it possible for this? And all of us to be fully insured on the policy?

And just out of curiosity if anyone could give us an idea. The car were looking at is a 1999 Mustang V6 for $1300. We are all 18-19 with clean driving records and no accidents and got our licenses at 16. None of us are currently insured/have our own policy, but rather on our parents insurance and listed as a driver.

    Thanks

Advice for insurance claim re: rock damage to car door from a semi

    Posted: 31 May 2018 03:07 PM PDT

I had just entered an offramp on the way to work when a semi roared past on my left and either dropped or kicked up what I assume was a rock that left a nice ping pong ball sized dent in the driver side passenger door.

I assume this is covered with comprehensive insurance and should be relatively straightforward. I have a $200 comprehensive deductible with Geico. Any considerations when filing a claim?

If I use up my benefits now (get glasses) and then with the new employer get a plan on VSP are my benefits still used or do I get a new set (get a second pair of glasses, or contacts)?

Issues with a check received from insurance company

    Posted: 31 May 2018 05:02 AM PDT

Edit Thank you everyone for your helpful advice. I have finally been contacted and it turned out the check was sent back to them in the mail for some reason. I'm not sure why it was sent back but at any rate I have finally been contacted. I understand and won't expect the bank fee to be reimbursed I simply thought they had forgotten about issuing a new check so that's why I tried to deposit the old one. Anywho, I wouldn't blame the insurance company for the bank fee although it's annoying it took a significant amount of time to figure everything out I do realize that's on me and not them due to the post office problem. I again thank you for all your advice and will update once I've received the check or if anything else is askew.

Tl;dr got into car accident, other driver at fault, finally get a check from other driver's insurance company after a month of not having my calls answered or being contacted, realize my name is spelled wrong so I ask them to fix it, they tell me they'll issue a new check, 2 months go by no new check, I decide deposit the old check and it clears, some days later that money is gone from my account, I call insurance company and no response, I still haven't received a new check. I live in NJ. I'm not sure what else I should do except keep calling the insurance guy. Any advice would be appreciated.

This will be long. Also, sorry for formatting, am on mobile. A little backstory, I was involved in a car accident at uni and it was obviously the other person's fault which she admitted to. Fuck up #1: I didn't call the police. I figured it wasn't a big deal and I had to get to work shortly. We exchanged info and got a notice from her insurance company. Meanwhile, I was contacting mine but ultimately decided to just go through her company so I wouldn't have to pay my deductible.

After a couple weeks I haven't heard anything from her company and mine was calling and not getting any response. I decide to call the help desk/receptionist and I find out the woman who is supposedly in charge of my claim no longer works for the company. I get everything sorted out and a different representative sends out an inspector and a couple weeks later I finally get a check for the amount. It's pretty minor damage that I can just do myself or have one of my autobody friends do for me so I figured I can simply deposit the check instead of going through a shop and prolonging the back and forth price negotiating between auto shop and insurance company.

Fuck up #2: I realize my name is spelled incorrectly so me being a dumb dumb call the insurance financial guy and make him aware of the mistake instead of just going ahead and depositing it into my account. He says he'll have the same woman (who to my knowledge no longer works for the company) cancel the old check and issue a new one. Fast forward a couple months later and I still don't have a new check. I realize it's on me for not calling this guy every day to check up on everything but at the same time, it's his job. So I'm pretty hopeful I'll eventually find one in the mail. Fuck up #3: After a while I'm getting fed up so I just go to my bank and deposit the old check. It clears and the money is in my account.

A couple days later I get a notice saying my bank charged me a chargeback fee of $15 and the amount for the insurance check is taken out of my account. I don't really get it. I haven't gotten a new check and called the company as soon as I could and of course was forwarded to voicemail like all the other times I've tried to contact this guy. No one has called me back yet (it's only been a couple days and with the extended holiday weekend the company has been closed). I'm frustrated because no one is answering or returning my calls and I just want the money I'm entitled to. It's really not that much money to begin with and I understand that I was told I would be issued a new check but it's been quite a long time since and I'm starting to lose patience. I'm planning on calling him every day but I'm not quite sure what else to do. Thanks for reading. I'm in NJ.

Insurance Won't Cover Some Contents of Flood

    Posted: 31 May 2018 01:17 PM PDT

I had a basement flood and my insurance is covering everything except a few things. They will not cover my golf clubs, or hockey equipment. My adjuster says they're meant to be wet. I'm saying there is a big difference between getting wet and laying under water for an extended period of time. They're giving me no other options either, it's either they clean everything and send back or send as is and give me $500 for what the cleaning would cost. I asked them for a written guarantee that my equipment would not fail in the future due to water damage and they will not do that. I'm worried about steel golf clubs laying under water and having a problem with them down the road. Same with my hockey skates.

Is there something more I can do here? I was thinking of contacting the manufacturers and getting letters from them. Very frustrating when this is the first claim I've ever made and they are arguing with me over clearly water damaged contents.

Best insurance company for someone with two accidents on record in the last 3 years?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 04:55 PM PDT

I'm paying $220 with Geico. Wanted to see if there was anyone cheaper.

And yes I'm driving a lot more carefully now. I just scrapped two empty cars while parking and left notes. I'm not a danger to the public I swear. :\

Under 18, recently moved to New York with Travelers insurance that's about to end, no idea what I'm going, looking for insurance plan

I'm looking for health insurance but I really don't know what I'm doing. I live with my brother and he says he won't let me stay without insurance. I'm turning 18 in a month. Any advice? Thank you!

Hey all, I've been looking over my policy and was wondering if this is good enough? https://puu.sh/AwDVS/caee934052.png

It really only increased my premium by 30 dollars. Worth it?

Edit: I added CC liability and identity theft

Getting married in our 20s, when do we need our own coverage?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 12:12 PM PDT

We live in Pennsylvania. We're both under 26 so we're on our respective parents' health plans. My understanding is that we can stay on their health plans even after getting married. I've also heard that we'll now need our own car insurance - is this true? How soon after getting married do we need our own plan? & what's the best way to shop for plans if we've never had our own before? I'm eligible to get a USAA plan which I've heard is usually the best, but I'm also only hearing that from USAA, so other advice/opinions would be great. Thanks a bunch!!

New homebuyer with a car. Insurance deals?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 09:00 AM PDT

I'm just now buying a home and I have a car. I currently have car and renters insurance through State farm.

Would I be best off sticking with my current carrier, or switching? Are there onboarding benefits I can take advantage of, or insurance with particular good bundling with homeowners and auto insurance?

    Any advice would be welcome.
