Automaker's cost-benefit decision over judgement payouts to victim's families vs recall cost for fatally defective part?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 09:28 PM PDT

Has this ever happened? I remember hearing a story about an automaker choosing to not recall a part and letting a pre calculated number of victims die after realizing they'd save money by just paying the judgements to the victim's families. I'm looking for real cases where this sort of thing has happened (in any industry). Thanks for your help.

    Team Management Software?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 11:49 PM PDT

Just looking for feedback on a product idea I have! It's a first-of-its-kind team management platform (not the same thing as project management) called Spark.

It would be geared toward helping managers build more goal-oriented, productive, and happy teams, rather than just simply tracking 'work' in something like Trello, Workfront, or Slack. It's not supposed to replace project management software, but would be a supplement that focuses on the people side of things. Its main focuses would be tracking both team and individual goals, recognizing successes, and keeping a finger on the pulse of the team's overall well-being.

    Possible features include:

    • Easily set and track goals for both team and personal improvement.
    • Request progress updates on any goal.
    • Analytics: success rates, team happiness level, and other feedback.
    • Team members give daily reports. These include what they accomplished that day, inquiries/suggestions/complaints, and a 'happiness scale/rating' (for manager insights on team well-being).
    • Management may attach to a goal custom incentives (can be anything), and/or 'points' awarded to an assignee's profile, once the goal is complete.
    • Badges (special recognition) can be awarded to team member profiles to recognize successes.
    • Add milestones to any goal.
    • Set a due date for any goal.
    • Set the priority level of any goal.
    • Peer recognition (peers can award honors/badges to each others' profiles to encourage teamwork and mutual appreciation for great teamwork).
    • Team Page:
      • Team name, other metadata
      • Members list
      • Team goals and progress
      • Announcements, updates, peer recognition.
    • Analytics for individuals to track their own progress and success rates.
    • Personal goal setting that is visible only to the individual.

I'm looking for feedback on the viability this idea could have for YOU in your work situation...

    My questions for you are:

Which of the following features, if any, would you be excited about?

What other features might you like to see that would be helpful for managers of teams?

What are your thoughts on the foundational idea of Spark?

How much would you be willing to pay per employee, per month for a product with some or all of these features?

Thank you so much for your feedback! Any and all feedback is welcome and precious! I've been dying to build something awesome for a long time!

    Warmest wishes!
