[FL] Was Baker Acted, hospital charging me over $20,000

    Posted: 31 May 2018 08:44 AM PDT

I was Baker Acted two months ago and received a bill for the 72 hold (for part of which, I was released to my parents' custody for the rest of the 72 hour hold)

A little backstory, I was told by the police officers who took me to the hospital that they were doing a two hour evaluation and would determine if I needed to be held.

I was never evaluated, nor was I seen by a psychologist until the next day and only for five minutes.

My first encounter with a professional there was the hospital finance lady. She handed me a page and asked me to sign. The page had "5/9" at the bottom with no other pages, so I asked for the rest.

She left and, after some time, gave me the rest of the pages. I read them and did not want to sign because they had a clause about me being financially responsible for all fees incurred. I let the lady know and she told me they would not start the 72 hour hold until I signed, so I did. I'm not sure if that's legal.

I was later sent a bill for over $17,000 from the hospital. I received another bill for the two psych doctor I saw. Combined, they spent 15 minutes with me, I was billed for an 1 hour for each. The bill was for over $2,500.

To summarize: I'm being grossly overcharged and I did not have insurance at the time. I also am clueless if telling me they would hold me until I signed.

Do I have any legal recourse?

Personal note: I'm aware that what I tried to do was selfish and wrong. I know that there are consequences to my actions and that I rely too much on doctors when I should be fixing my issues myself.

I was pulled over on a Tinder date, driving her car. She had expired insurance and tags - I got the ticket

    Posted: 31 May 2018 09:39 AM PDT

I was on a date with a girl I met on Tinder and things were going well enough. We wanted to go on a hike after lunch and decided to car pool on the way there. She asked if we could take her car, but that I would drive. "Sure, why not." - bad decision.

We got pulled over for expired tags, cool. I tell the officer that it's her car, and at that point he starts ignoring me and takes all her information. He directs all conversation at her - he takes her DL and when he returns, it's with a ticket. He says she doesn't have insurance either, but he gives me the ticket. I'm confused, because this is the first time I'm being brought into the whole situation. I have my own insurance, but he said I had to show up to court anyway because I was the driver.

The court date is some times in August, that's literally all I know. I'm no longer with the girl, but I've messaged her several times asking for the court date, time and room, but no response. I'm not sure what to do, any advice?

Landlord didn't pay Utilities, I'm planning on withholding rent (Brookline, MA)

    Posted: 31 May 2018 06:33 AM PDT

I'm living in Brookline, MA as At-Will Tenants with no lease or any other agreement in place besides that we are living here and paying him rent. He has paid all utilities while I have lived here. (He had some baddies that the coppers arrested living in the house before we moved in, so he had to drop the rent a lot to get anyone interested in the place)
    Short:
Our Gas (and thus Hot Water) is shut off, due to the landlord not paying. Gas company won't let me pay or even look at the overdue bill, and didn't give 30 day notice. I gave the landlord notice that if he did not have the gas on by today, we would be withholding rent. The gas is still off.
    How much can I withhold?

Long: (it gets a little weird)
This is the second month in a row that the landlords actions have resulted in a lack of utilities. Last month was heat, but we resolved that in a fair way (My roommates and I payed 1/4 the value of the apartment for the duration we lacked heating). We contacted the Health inspectors and they came out and put a fire under him to get the heat on.

This month our gas (and thus Hot water) was shut off because he did not pay the gas bill They did not send a 30 day notice of the shut off. Two weeks later it is still off.
    Here's what we've done:
*Called and written to him several times to turn it on.
He says it's paid and he called them to come turn it on.
*Called the gas company to pay the overdue bill and/or to have them turn it on.
They've been really confusing. They said there was no shutoff notice and that the account is up to date. When I scheduled to have them come out and turn it on, the guy showed up and said he was only contracted for emergencies and that he couldn't turn it on. When I called the next day they said they could not give me the details of the account and could not come out to turn the gas on.
*Had a state health inspector come by (same one as before).
This is where it's really weird. He said that the person we are paying rent to no longer owns the property, and that he fined the company that now owns the property. This is the first time I've heard this, the company that allegedly owns the property hasn't sent notices or any information at all that we should be paying them instead and the landlord hasn't mentioned this at all.

In the mean time I've been going to the gym to take showers and my roommates are out in the cold.

Should I withhold all rent (and set it aside in an escrow thingy) until the gas is on?
Should I withhold partial rent for time without utilities?
Should I withhold rent until the owner of the property is settled?
Should I withhold rent and express that it will be withheld until the issue is settled in court?

P.S. Sorry this is so long. But I'm also planning on contacting the Department of public utilities tomorrow to report the gas company and hopefully force something out.

Edit2: i sent him a notice informing him we would not be paying rent this month, he's called the gas company and they've already come out and turned it on. Now I have to figure out whether I hold out and follow through and not pay this month and force court action, or just withhold an amount equal to the distress he's caused us. I really dont like this guy, but i also just want to live comfortably and peaceably in my own apartment

Edit: I'm dirt jockey on legalhelp, i put it in the wrong place cause I was dropped a lot as a baby.

    Home Aid abusing my mother.

    Posted: 31 May 2018 12:11 AM PDT

My mom has MD and diabetes. She is permanently wheelchair bound and has aids that come in every day while I'm at work or getting other things done.

Today was probably the worst it's ever been. Her home help aid showed up 2 hours late without telling the company she works for. In turn my mother wet her bed. She then proceeded to sleep and play on her phone for half an hour before she would take care of the wet bed/taking my mom to the bathroom and a shower.

When it came about 15 minutes before the aid was supposed to leave my mom was asking for her pump supplies and she wouldn't get them for her resolulting in her blood sugar going up to 400.

The aid then got mad at my mom because she wouldn't sign the paper ( which confirms the hours she's there) for the aid because she was only there for 1/2 the time she was supposed to be there and she wanted to be paid for the full thing.

She left my mom in her wheel chair with no lunch no pump supplies and didn't call anyone to say she just left her there.

What can I do about the aid/company, my mom doesn't want to file a police report but I feel it's something that needs to be done because something like this should never happen and the company doesn't give 2 shits.

Edit: Filed a report with APS against the aide and the company. Also called a lawyer but they said there's not enough to sue them.

Also the case worker is trying to find a different company to provide in home health services.

[OH, WV] The dealership my mom bought her car (used) from told her if she got her oil changed somewhere else she would void her warranty.

    Posted: 31 May 2018 08:11 AM PDT

Not sure how to flair this.

The dealership is based in Ohio. My parents live in West Virginia. The car is a 2015 Toyota Highlander. She is the 2nd owner. She bought the car used less than a year ago.

I don't know how many oil changes she has done. All I know is the she had an oil change today with the dealership instead of the place she usually takes their car for repairs and maintenance. I asked her why, she said the person she talked to told her if she got her oil changed anywhere other than their dealership it would void the warranty. She thinks it has something to do with the fact her car uses synthetic oil.

This doesn't sound legal to me. People change their own oil all the time. Would that void the warranty? It seems to me they are just taking as much money from her as they can. It's not an urgent issue since it's already happened but I want to make sure they aren't cheating her for next time. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Update: I appreciate all the advice. I got to talk to my mom again and apparently I didn't have the full story. It was when she bought the car they told her she had to get the work done there for it to be covered under warranty. But the warranty was only for a certain number of miles which was passed already. So I wasn't given all of the information, they were kind of rude to her anyways, she will be taking the car to the normal place from now on. I'm frustrated with her because I've been looking into this for 2 days. But hey, at least I have this information now. Thanks again for the help!

[USA, CT] I'm a non-offending pedophile, and I want to know if I tell a therapist, it still falls under mandated reporting laws.

    Posted: 31 May 2018 11:22 AM PDT

So, some background: I'm a childhood sexual abuse survivor, and I recently realized I'm attracted to children and younger teenagers. I've kind of known my whole life, but I suppressed it until recently. I'm disabled and living with my parents, although I'm a legal adult, I don't really have the independence needed. I'm technically not disabled enough to be considered mentally deficient in the eyes of the law, though. I have severe executive dysfunction issues that make it hard for me to make money, work, or manage finances (basically, any big-picture stuff), though, so that's also still handled by my parents.

Anyway, the question is, are just thoughts with no intent or history of acting on it (including not consuming child pornography; that's still harming children) still grounds for mandated reporting in Connecticut? I know the laws vary by state. And, a sub question, would I have legal recourse if they violated doctor/patient confidentiality?

Edit: I wasn't sure if I was supposed to flair my own posts or not. I'm sorry if I wasn't.

Sister's husband is abusive (His parents are illegal immigrants)

    Posted: 31 May 2018 07:20 AM PDT

    Location: Kernersville, North Carolina

    A quick backstory:

My little sister was always the rebellious kid who would skip school and get into trouble. Her junior year of high school, she started dating some kid her age who dropped out of high school. Aside from him being a dropout, he seemed like a decent person, at least in public. Fast forward to her senior year, she runs away from my parent's house and elopes with the kid and gets pregnant and they get their own apartment. Turns out the kid is a POS. He is manipulative and abusive. He convinced my sister to steal about 20k worth of jewelry from my mom while she was still living with my parents. She vehemently denied this up until recently.

    To recent times:

A few weeks ago, my little sister's husband became abusive and hit my sister, leaving her with a bunch of bruises on her arms. She ended up moving back in with my mom and dad along with her 6 month old daughter and said she was going to get a restraining order and a divorce. My mom took pictures of my sister to have as proof for the authorities.

So my mom called me last night saying that my little sister ended up going to go get dinner with her mother in law because her mother in law was "unaware" about what her son had done and how he has been acting. My sister didn't come home. Turns out it was a ploy. Her husband used his mom to fish my sister out so that he could get her back home. Turns out his parents are just as manipulative.

So here is my question, aside from going to his apartment and putting a gun in his mouth and risking life in prison; what are our legal options in case we go to the police and my sister refuses to press charges? I know that domestic abuse victims are often unwilling to cooperate with the police for whatever the reasons may be. Maybe I'm being dramatic here, but I don't want this behavior to end up escalating and end up with a dead sister.

I also, do know that his parents are illegal immigrants and could use that as leverage in order to force my sisters hand if she refuses to press charges?

    Any advice is welcome.

    Thanks!

My employers violated ADA, what should I do next? (Long) URGENT

    Posted: 31 May 2018 03:38 AM PDT

    Michigan

Little background: I work with children with disabilities in a special school, I love my job. At my 90 day evaluation, I was told I "meet expectations" in everything. Good, great, awesome. After the New Year, I changed classrooms and got a new Direct Supervisor, Abby (names have been changed). At my 6 month evaluation, Abby mentioned noticing some "off task behavior," at which point I told her that I have ADHD. She asked me some questions about when I was diagnosed, if I had ever been medicated, and what worked for me in the past. We decided to track how often my ADHD came up while I was working using a device set to go off every 10 minutes, at which point I would asses myself and what I was doing, and after collecting some baseline data, we could discuss accommodations if necessary. It helped, every time it went off, I was on task.

Last week, another supervisor, Ben, called me into his office. He said because of my "off task behavior" he was recommending I transfer to another building where I wouldn't be working with kids, which would be a worse schedule and a significant pay cut, and if that was not an acceptable option for me, I could seek employment elsewhere.

No accommodations have every been made for my ADHD. Furthermore, there have been no write ups, no formal reprimands for me being off task, none whatsoever.

I have filed a grievance with HR, and I've contacted HR about an appointment.

From what research I've done, this is a blatant violation of ADA. I did my part and disclosed my disability to my direct supervisor, it is not my responsibility to ensure every supervisor knows about it. Furthermore, cutting my pay and forcing me to have to work a shit ton off overtime to make the same money I currently am does not seem like an adequate accommodation.

Additionally, my "off task behavior" is referring to me having the occasional conversation with coworkers (like "hey, how was your weekend?"), something EVERYONE does. My conversations with coworkers are at least child-friendly, others I have heard are not.

I have some feelers out trying to find a disability lawyer, but until then, what should I say in regards to my employers when I talk with HR? Part of me thinks Ben didn't know, and Abby told him "deakers gets off task, transfer her" and conveniently left that part out, so he didn't intentionally violate ADA, but that is above my pay grade.

Where do I go from here? What should I accept? The is another supervisor that wants me in his classroom, I'd love to go there. Help!!!

    Edit: added location and typo

[FL]Received a collection notice for a toll's that are not mine.

    Posted: 31 May 2018 04:46 AM PDT

So I received 1 collection notice for a toll that was not mine. In the collection notice it says that the toll is for a license plate number that used to belong to me 11 years ago. I called up the toll authority (Which is a maddening process in itself) to ask them what this was all about. And they told me that they sent me to collections because I never paid the bill that I was mailed. I told them I never received the bill, and asked them for a copy. They sent me one, and the mailing address they used for an address I used to live at 15 years ago. So of course I never got this bill. They showed me a very blurry photo of the plate going though a toll and the plate number certainly looks like it matches a plate number that I used to have. However the car itself is not visible in the picture. They (the toll authority) is adamant that this is my license plate and that this bill is my responsibility. I also logged into their online toll system and had a look, and it looks like there are roughly 25 to 30 more unpaid tolls all from last month that are all going to come my way as well. I called the DMV and asked them for help, and asked them if they could erase or somehow decouple that plate # from my name from their database permanently. They told me they could not, and to take up the problem with the toll authority. It takes 1/2 an hour just to get through to somebody at the toll authority and when you actually get ahold of somebody they don't give a shit one way or the other and they simply say pay the bill or we send you to collections plus notify the DMV so I can not renew my license. This is in FL if it matters. What do I do here, contact the attorney general or go to court?

Home Care Nurse says 'Home is not suitable' for my Mother. Threatening to sell my house and take all the money. What can/can't she do? What are my options? (Kentucky US)

    Posted: 31 May 2018 09:40 AM PDT

    Hello,

My mother and I have a house together. (50/50)

My mother has dementia and a nurse comes to our house every other week for her rehabilitation.

Today I was told that the thought the house was not suitable for what my mother needs, and that she is going to have an inspection done to determine if my mother should live there or not.

She told me that if the house is deemed unfit living conditions for my mother, that I would have to admit her to a nursing home and sell my house to pay for it.

She told me that even though the house is half in my name, that all of the money made from the house would have to go to the nursing home.

    Here are my questions...

    • is this legal?
    • If the house is half in my name and half in my mothers name, can they really take all of the money from the house?
    • My mother has one other kid, who doesn't live with us, but he refuses to help with the nursing home bills. Would he be liable for some of the costs?
    • Is there a way I could check in my mother to a nursing home and keep the house (Even if I cannot afford a nursing home?

    --EDIT--
The nurse thinks the house isn't suitable because its cluttered and hard to walk around the home.

My home is currently going through renovations so it wont be like this forever but for a few months it will be pretty cluttered.

We also have a few animals. (3 cats and 1 dog) So that might make it harder to walk around the home as well.

My mother has a history of falling so this concerned the nurse.

Evicted and being told I owe a lot of money for it.

    Posted: 31 May 2018 09:46 AM PDT

I was recently evicted from my apartment after only living in it for three months because the police made entry into my apartment on two different occasions two weeks apart. They entered for the same reason both times. My issue is that the apartment complex is charging me the rest of my lease term(10,800), as well as a re-letting fee(1028), plus another $1000 for my roommates cat who was in the apartment(hes not responsible for any of this because the police report states that its practically all my fault so the complex let him off). This totals to way more money than I have and am willing to pay to an apartment complex who hasn't done anything but treat my poorly. I dont really know what my options are here. I dont want to destroy my credit, but I cannot physically afford this and nor do I want to dedicate the next year to paying them off because I am currently homeless, car-less, and dealing with legal trouble. I would much rather try to fix those issues first before I start dishing out cash to a terrible apartment complex. Who doesn't even need my money in the first place.

    location. USA< Texas

EDIT: Sorry, I am trying to answer all the questions to the best of my ability. I wont be able to answer them for a while as I am going to work. Thanks for all the responses. I am very pleased with the amount of help I have received.

Royally screwed by H&R block.Need advice.Do I have a case for small claims ? Texas

    Posted: 31 May 2018 08:51 AM PDT

    Here is the story.

We went to H&R and e filed taxes for 2016 in Feb 2017 (I have all the proof)

We called in Jan 2018 to ask why we couldn't see Taxes online on the H&R block website (almost a year later).

They initially said we did not file for 2016 and later realized their mistake and then H&R Block e filed in Jan 2018. We picked up the new copies of the filing from the local office the same day.

Of course, at this point we received a letter from the IRS regarding the late filing

Contacted H&R Block Branch Manager via phone to discuss She said she had no idea what had happened to the filing but was sorry that it had happened and asked that everything be sent to her via email, which I did.

Made appointment to see the manager personally. We were told that it was their mistake and she did not know how it happened but did again acknowledge that it had occurred. She stated that she is the office manager, and the person with whom we had initially made the appointment to file the 2016 taxes, and that she takes full responsibility for the issue. She said H&R block would rectify the matter and reimburse us on all the penalties and fines incurred. She stated that she had sent the letter from the IRS to the H&R Block legal team and a claim had been filed to address the issue. I was content with the response and proceeded to file our 2017 taxes with her the same day. Yeah, I know!! I have been filing with them for over 10 years ☹

In between I called the IRS and told them what was going on and they told me what my options were. In April, I was contacted by HR block to come to the office (correspondence attached) and she wanted me to file form 843 which is "claim for refund and request for abatement"

We did not agree to file the form 843 as we did not believe we had to be "forgiven" from paying the penalties since this situation was due to the negligence of H&R Block not filing our taxes on time, a service that we paid fees for and a service that H&R Block is known for.

From what I understand form 843 can only be used once every 3 years and it's a get out of jail free card from paying fines…what if something happens and next year and I needed that option then????

We received a letter later in April from H&R Block stating that our claim had been denied since it was not covered under the extended "peace of mind" option.

Here are my thoughts -This has nothing to do with "peace of mind", since we went to H&R Block and paid for a service, which was never provided initially until we and the IRS brought it to their attention. To not pay the penalties that were incurred due to a complete failure on their side and not to do the job that they were paid for is a complete breach of the contract.

So, we sent them a letter…asking them for

Payment in full for all penalties charged and any interest that has accumulated since.

Any other fines /penalties that will be charged by IRS in the future due to this situation.

Reimbursement of the $198.00 that was paid to file taxes

They have not responded yet its been over 30 days

Do we have a case for small Claims in Texas??? Please help . I am not rich and I really cannot afford more payments .

I was rear ended and the lady's insurance can't cover fixing my car and paying a rental. I'm paying the rental out of pocket for the time being but, legally, should she be paying for it?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 05:51 AM PDT

I live in an at fault state and I was wondering, since needing a rental to get to work is technically a resulting cost of the accident, if I should take legal action to get the rental paid for. And if so, how?

I am very new to accident insurance/legal stuff so any help would be deeply appreciated.

I live in North Carolina and I was rear ended about a week ago.

How to get divorced without a lawyer.

    Posted: 31 May 2018 07:00 AM PDT

I followed advice to check for legal aid, they're not helping divorce cases at this time. I went to the court house to ask the clerk of courts how to get paperwork started, they referred me to legal aid and told me I needed a lawyer to get divorced.

I live in North Carolina, my husband left almost 2 weeks ago, he's supposedly changed his address by now, I know we must be separated a year to divorce, but I would like to spend this year coming to a divorce agreement and custody arrangement for our two children.

Can someone please tell me what steps to take, where I can find the documents needed to file when the time comes?

Roomate won't pay rent and won't leave. He isn't on the lease.

    Posted: 31 May 2018 05:47 AM PDT

    I live in Massachusetts.

One of my roommates won't pay rent. I'm the lease holder. He isn't a sublet and there is no formal document showing that he lives here. He isnt on the mailbox and hasn't changed address with the post office. I have acknowledged informally that he can live here, but now I want him out.

He won't leave. Some of my things were stolen and he owes about $1500 for rent, which is about three months of non-payment.

Can I just put his stuff in trash bags and change the locks? He turned out to be a thief and a filthy, disgusting hoarder. Pretty much the worst roommate somebody could ever live with.

I'm asking this for a friend. The landlord would be able to assist us, and rent is still always on time and there aren't any other problems.

    UPDATE:

Thanks for the advice!! I wont be throwing anyone out illegally like I originally implied.

The lease holder has read the advice, and we want to attempt getting a debt agreement in writing. If not, we will give a 30 or 14 day notice. Additionally, we plan to save text messages that acknowledge he owes money. We plan to use this later if she wants to sue.

Speaking of suing, I wasn't specific about the what was stolen originally. Every dollar out of a small lockbox she owns was emptied out while she was away one weekend. The roommate in question was the only one with the code, and the only one home during this time. This totaled two grand. We aren't sure how to go about suing for this, or if we can, but I will do some research today.

[Lansing, MI] Was found at-fault in a car accident, but I'm not so sure?

Last night I was approaching a flashing yellow light at a large intersection (which from my understanding meant "proceed with caution") and proceeded to drive thru. As I was entering the intersection a truck decided to pull out and I crashed right into the side of it. No one was injured, but the front of my car is rather damaged from it. The police officer decided that I was at-fault because the witness in the truck's vehicle said everyone else at the intersection was treating it like a four-way stop. He chose not to issue me any ticket and also mentioned that he would include in the report that the lights at this intersection were screwy. My light showed flashing YELLOW while the trucks light showed flashing RED. This, to me, was incredibly odd. Why would I be at-fault if they were the ones pulling out on a flashing red light?

The police report is not available yet, so I am not sure what all the officer decided to include on the report.

How should I proceed with this?

What to do if I have reason to believe someone is going to falsely accuse me of child abuse

    Posted: 31 May 2018 12:25 PM PDT

My child came home from her grandmothers house(me and her son aren't together and they're upset that I moved on) and my child(5) told me that her grandmother had her tell her that I beat her with a hanger into a recording. Luckily my child thought this was weird and it made her uncomfortable. What should I do if I expect she may be trying to make some sort of accusation using those recording? I live in NY.

Hotdogs on my front lawn with "suggested donation" box

    Posted: 31 May 2018 08:49 AM PDT

My good friend got back home from an Army deployment with injuries. I want to raise funds to help them out while they get back on their feet.Where I live right now there is a construction site across the street. I think that I could make hotdogs from 11am - 1pm on my front lawn and get a lot of hungry construction workers to come through.

What kind of hot water could I be facing with this plan? This seems like a great fundraising opportunity.

Could I bypass the permits required for being a food vendor if I'm simply inviting people to donate to this cause and then providing hotdogs and soda? Also: if the fundraising is legal, could I legally use a portion of the donations to cover the cost of the hot dogs and soda?

    Edit: Washington State

    Celiac given gluten in hospital

    Posted: 31 May 2018 01:36 AM PDT

Hi, I am 17, in Australia, Victoria and I have celiac disease. I was admitted to hospital on the 17th of May to treat the physical symptoms of an eating disorder and a few days ago I became violently ill, starting with nausea, full body aches and pains and fatuige. These symtpms quickly developed into vomiting, diarrhoea, tachycardia, dehydration, chills and hot flushes, stomach aches, all on top of the existing symptoms.

A MET ( Medical Emergency Call) call was made for me and the hospitals ICU got involved and I had IV fluids for over twelve hours. I was also put in isolation because the doctors keep saying I have a stomach bug, even though these are classic glutening symptoms for me.

My concerns are my health, as the intestines get damaged, and I feel like this has put a strain on my recovery for the eating disorder.

A few other points are they are making me wear pressure stockings and have done xrays and a VW scan of my lungs as they were worried about blood clots because I was also having chest pain over the past few days. They also gave me ativan which has made me quiet spacey and forgetful.

Is it worth trying to take legal action against this big medical brand? How would I do so?

EDIT; The hospital seems to be avoiding the possibility that it was gluten, and keeps sayinf I have gastro, even though no one else has it and I was in a shared room until I was put on precautions and isolation.

Company says we can't discuss pay

    Posted: 31 May 2018 06:11 AM PDT

I work for an International organization in Tennessee. Recetly there has been some disparity among employees in our area regarding ever decreasing wages for new-hires. We received an email from our site manager this morning stating that it is against company policy to discuss our pay amongst ourselves. The effect of the email was that discussing pay outside of speaking with managent is a fireable offence. Are there any laws in place regarding this, and do they have the power to terminate employment based on these conversations? Edit: Spelling

Dr took my wife's blood to test for enlarged liver last week (Thurs) told us we would get called with results by Tuesday, now his office keeps shrugging us off for 3 days straight now and we can't get any answers, Wife is still running constant fevers

    Posted: 31 May 2018 10:27 AM PDT

Update: as luck would have it they actually answered just now on the 5th call of the day, and actually gave the results. They said that she has an enlarged liver and nothing else is wrong. Gullbladder is clear, blood work is normal no infection or anything. I asked why she was still running fevers and having stomach pains and they said to go to a GI specialist if needed but they don't think anything is wrong with liver or gulbladder, apparently it's normal for some people to have an enlarged liver. We're definitely going to a specialist for a second opinion.

Really awkward that they finally answered after I made this post but I appreciate everyone's help and I'm sorry for apparently wasting people's time here.

TL;DR: Title + they found out she had enlarged liver last Thursday after a sonogram so they took her blood to check something that same night, told us they would have answers for us after memorial day weekend on Tuesday, but every time we call they say they will immediately call back as soon as the doctor isn't busy but we are on the third day now and we have been waiting for hours already yet again. We have called 3-5 times every day, they will answer the first call of the day then ignore the rest of them.

    Full story;

Two weeks ago on Wednesday my wife went to the ER for extreme stomach pains. The closest ER is known around here (small town in Alabama so we all know) for being the type of place that you avoid unless you're dying because of how little they care but she didn't think she could make the longer drive to a better one so we went anyway. Doctor did a bunch of feeling around and blood work and decided it was probably her gullbladder, but he didn't want to scan her because of radiation so he gave her a digistive cocktail or something like that to take and sent her home with orders to see our doctor (only one in our small town, again with a bad reputation) if she gets worse. She got worse.

So we go to this doctor the next day, he wants her sonogrammed a week later on Thursday (at the hospital of original ER), tells us she should be fine waiting. We wait, she's in pain but she pushes through. Gets scan, we go home and we have to call him... He tells her she needs to come do blood work because they found her liver was enlarged to check something and that he would call us Tuesday with answers. At this point it's already been a week and a couple days since her original ER visit and no treatment has been given to her other than pain meds and some sort of digistive cocktail. She's running a fever and has random stomach pains throughout this whole story.

We do what he says and we wait yet again. Now every time we call they only answer the first call where they tell us he will immediately call us when he's not busy or a nurse will talk to us, yet they never call back and the rest of our calls get ignored for the day.

What are my options here legally? Should I call our insurance?

Also, I know this isn't the focus but I would appreciate advise on how to seek out better medical care? I am willing to drive to Columbus MS, Tuscaloosa or Birmingham, AL if needed, I just don't even know where to begin on finding a better doctor or what kind of doctor we should be looking for. At this point I just want to find a doctor that will run all the scans and tests necessary to figure this out and fix her but I don't even know how to get to that point other than just walking into a different ER?

My city has a Water Ban. People under 6 and people with compromised immune systems as well as pregnant and nursing people should not use the tap water. Boiling makes it worse, filtration will not help. Should the city provide water?

    Posted: 30 May 2018 03:56 PM PDT

(OR) It is the end of the month. People on food stamps, or disability are out of money by this time in the month. The city is saying that only bottled water will do.

Edit Is the city obligated to provide water?

[Texas] Emotional support animals and pet deposits

    Posted: 31 May 2018 05:11 AM PDT

I am the property manager for a small (4 unit) apartment building. I'm not professionally trained, I just handle everything for the landlord. I have a new tenant who has an emotional support animal. Am I allowed to charge her the regular pet deposit?
