Will getting married mean better insurance? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 05:21 PM PDT Hello all, please no judgements but I (23f) am expecting a baby with my long term (5 years) boyfriend (27m). Our goal was to always get married THEN have a baby, but sometimes life doesn't work out that way. We've been living together for 2 years but I'm still on my parents BCBS insurance. My parents are retired and the insurance is perfect for them, but not me especially now with all of these doctors appointments. My boyfriend and I are tossing the idea around of going to the courthouse & getting married. Of course, it's not our vision wedding but we can still have a reception down the line. Anyways, if we do choose to do this - will I be on his insurance right away or would it not kick in until after our baby is born? [link] [comments] |
My insurance is trying make me 90% at fault, not sure what to do. Posted: 01 Apr 2018 01:46 AM PDT I got into an accident about 2 months ago. I was a making a left turn at a green light. I made sure that it was clear to go and while I was already in the middle of making a turn, the other driver was going significantly above the speed limit (most likely 70 in a 45) and crashed into me (passenger's side). My car spun and was totaled from the impact. The pictures clearly show my car's position on the road and prove that it spun. There's no way my car would've done that if the other person was going the speed limit. Even after the pictures and statements, the woman handling my case was literally fighting with me, trying to get me to accept fault. I know the fact that I was turning left doesn't help me at all but I was curious if a car was speeding, does that mean he loses his right of way? Any advice would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Insurance reimbursement for family member care Posted: 31 Mar 2018 06:30 PM PDT I was recently listened to an interview on a NPR channel discussing a medicare program that essentially reimburses you for lost income if you have to leave your job in order to stay hone and provide care for an aging family member. I'm having difficulty finding any information on such programs. Can anyone help? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Mar 2018 08:46 AM PDT So I rear ended another car on the highway and there was very minor damage. I paid him $500 on the spot through Venmo and we exchanged phone numbers. He decided he didn't want to call the police or exchange insurance. He didn't even get my license plate number. A day later he's saying that his engine is smoking due to the collision, but I probably hit him going less than ~5 mph. The front of my car doesn't even looked damaged. Can he do anything legally to get me in trouble? What should I do? [link] [comments] |
US Insurance supply chain questions Posted: 31 Mar 2018 06:22 PM PDT Hi /r/insurance, hoping to receive your expert knowledge. Note for moderators: if this is considered a "solicitation," I'd hope I wouldn't be banned, just take down my post (or let me know to take it down.) I'm a university student from Ivey Business School, doing a consulting project for a insurance Fintech firm. Their goal is to optimize some of the back-end insurance processes to free up time for advisors/brokers to work with clients. That said, the US insurance model is more complicated than the Canadian one. Could help to learn about the state as well (perhaps one type of business model is more common than another depending on the state.) I was hoping to learn about a few things, primarily for personal line brokers but commercial could also be helpful. If anyone is willing to comment on one or multiple of these:
Thanks for the help. Happy to clarify anything if you want to know more about the research, or want more directed questions. [link] [comments] |
Didn’t get the position in Total Loss Posted: 31 Mar 2018 05:49 PM PDT I don't even have a question. Just highly upset that I didn't get the promotion to total loss even though all all my metrics have been beyond excellent and the interview went great from what I understood. I'm not feeling burnt out just yet but definitely stuck. Guess I'm drinking the rest of the weekend away 🙃 [link] [comments] |
At-Fault Driver Wants to Pay out of Pocket Posted: 31 Mar 2018 04:51 PM PDT Was at the gym today and while I was inside, another person hit my car while it was parked. They left their car parked next to mine while they worked out so I was able to get plates and contacted police. Police report was filed, but the at-fault driver wanted to pay out of pocket instead of going through insurance (I'm assuming to avoid an insurance premium increase since there was only some minor damage). Is this an okay/smart thing for me to do? I have all of his info and insurance info in the police report so I wouldn't think there would be any risk, but I've never dealt with this before. If I get the work done and he refuses to pay can I just call up his insurance and have them pay? He seemed like a nice enough guy and no ill-will on my end so I'd like to do whatever I can to help him out as long as my car get fixed and no risk for me. [link] [comments] |
Letter from the Department of Transportation four years after incident (IL) Posted: 31 Mar 2018 08:27 AM PDT |
Posted: 31 Mar 2018 06:15 AM PDT The long story: I live in Oregon and my mother lives in California, I had a daughter due to be born that my mother wanted to be present for, due to her age and emotional state (my father passed away last year) I decided to fly down and accompany her as she drove up from California to Oregon (through Nevada so she could see Vegas). As we were passing through Reno at a stop light, an elderly woman not paying attention rear-ended us, destroying my mothers bumper and causing me whiplash. I immediately went to the ER where this was diagnosed. Since the due-date of my daughter was soon, I was the only income for our family (me, my wife, our son) and since the wreck, I was unable to work for a week. This put us in a very uncomfortable financial situation. I also attended physical therapy for three months for my neck since the soft tissue was swollen and kept me from sleeping comfortably. Once my daughter was born my pain and suffering increased since I was already recovering from the whiplash, but now my sleep was very compromised by our new baby, attributing to our living environment becoming extremely stressful for everybody. I was unable to pay the hospital bills in full, and they were quick to put them into collections, compromising my credit. ( I have paid these off since) Physical therapy ended in January 2018 since I could no longer miss work to attended (my work hours and PT office hours were identical), and since I was fighting to catch up financially, I felt this was the best move. I relocated to NY for work, and right before I was about to see my new PCP, the insurance agent called me to offer $7000 as the settlement. I find this to be very low in the overall cost of it all. Key points: The woman who hit us tried to keep us from calling the cops or contacting insurance because she didn't want to lose her license (she was 85), she died two days after the accident. My mother was slightly injured in the wreck and has her own claim, un-attached to mine, they offered her $350. This wreck attributed to relocating to NY because the pay is higher had I not been financially affected as much as I was by this wreck, I most likely would not have taken this offer since this environment is far more stressful than the life we had in Oregon. I sincerely still feel I have sleeping issues and neck stiffness in the affected areas. Advice moving forward? [link] [comments] |
Car Totaled from hail. Can i just replace the windshield and drive it as is? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:20 AM PDT Like the post heading said, my truck was damage in some extensive hail in Alabama. State Farm declared it totaled. My question is, can I just replace the front windshield and the side mirror that are cracked, and leave the dents on the body of the vehicle after I buy it back? It's my work truck so I'm not too worried about the dents, because I know it's in great condition otherwise. I just wanted to make sure that I could get the rebuilt title to keep driving it by just fixing the non-cosmetic problems it caused. I live in Alabama and am unfamiliar with the requirements to get it a rebuilt title. [link] [comments] |
Condo - another Water Damage from above Neighbor Posted: 31 Mar 2018 08:14 AM PDT I live in a multi-story condo and have condo insurance with a $1000 deductible. Back story: A few years ago the neighbor's unit above me flooded and caused damage to my property. I filed a claim with my insurance and even though I thought eventually I'd get the $1000 back through subrogation I was told on this subreddit that pretty much never happens. Today: The neighbor above me has caused water damage again and I'll have damages again. My question is: If I file a claim with my insurance can I sue the owner separately for my deductible? I think the last time I signed this right away. [link] [comments] |
