Advice please, want to Buy Bagels & Coffee Shop Posted: 29 Apr 2018 04:02 PM PDT Hello, Long time reader of all the helpful posts on here , this is my first post, would love to hear all your valuable advice. I have an opportunity to purchase a established Bagel shop. I have reviewed the paper work and business is making a good profit, but this would be my first business venture which makes me nervous. The seller is also providing seller financing which gives me more confidence in the business. I would of-course like to keep all of the current staff and work myself to replace the seller. I will have to look at the lease papers and any contracts and make sure business has no legal cases against it. Would like to hear of any experiences owning Bagel shops or similar, or any advice would be very helpful as to how I should move forward. Thanks, Amit [link] [comments] |
Coworking space or work from home? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 08:36 PM PDT I cant really afford an office. So im about to sign a lease for $150/month to hang out in a coworking space while i work. It doesnt sound like much but its a solid 10% of my current income. Is it better to just work from my room or are there benefits to working in a shared office space? [link] [comments] |
How do unemployment claims affect the small business? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 03:18 PM PDT I recently hired a guy, for a full-time labor position, who quit after one day on the job. He worked hard and did a good job, but then didn't show up the next day and said that he was quitting to go fishing. Now he's claiming unemployment and saying that it was a part-time position and that he was fired. I've never had anyone claim unemployment from my business and am curious what the implications are in this type of situation. Thanks reddit!! [link] [comments] |
Idea for my small business... your thoughts? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 03:01 PM PDT I am an inventor, and I am constantly building things. I have access to a very expensive laser cutter and cheap 3D printers. I was thinking of creating either custom items or specialty items, and then market them as one-off products under a company umbrella. For example. Let's say I laser cut wood with some super intricate paisley pattern, and then reverse cut the same, and made a super cool bar top out of wood and epoxy. Maybe it's sports teams (may have legal issue) but most likely it would be some super cool design. Then, let's also say I created some other product, like a special 'hidden shelf' or something unrelated. Point is, I would have a like a micro-web side for each product separately. Reddit seems a great place to post stuff as well as Instagram. I also did a heart shaped box with liquor, like this, for my friend Rahsan: https://imgur.com/a/SJa87 My point is, given access to some cool tech, and I see a lot of stuff on Reddit from engagement boxes to custom wood and decrative stuff, do you think there is an opportunity to develop a specialty products business? Need help on turning around a business! Posted: 29 Apr 2018 08:41 PM PDT So here is the thing. I am joining my family business (we are from argentina) and I want to grow the business significantly, something my mother did not wanted to because she was ok with the cash flows that it was generating, now she is retiring and I am getting in. My main focus is in increasing the sales in order to grow, but as we call some possible clients, they get the products from other companies that have significantly lower prices (we are a rope distributor, for construction companies, saling boats, sports and so on). So I get to a new problem where i have to go down on my prices so as to be competitive. I've read in other subreddits how lowing your price will not get you to grow in a sustainable way, because you can add value in other better ways, but as this product has no brand and stuff I do not think that applies to our product, I think it more similar to a comodity. In order to get my prices lower I see 2 possible solutions, -Manufacture -Import the product from a cheaper place, but this of course needs some investment, although the money is not a problem, I want to have some certainty about this call as it will need a good amount of work and money. What do you guys think would be the best way to sustainably grow this company, considering the conditions I've commented? Thanks for your opinions! [link] [comments] |
What are some tools/resources to help build systems and processes in my small business? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 06:48 PM PDT Hi All, I own and operate a small service business doing $5K/week. We're finally at the stage where we're doing consistent work and the business is growing week-over-week. Everything thus far has been very ad-hoc, it's time to start building systems and processes for this business. Does anyone know of any tools/resources helpful at this stage? I've broken the company down into functional groups and have noted the majority of processes to be defined. I'm still a bit at a loss here as to the best way to structure this ... any helpful tips would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |
How to know how much to charge for a website? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 05:35 PM PDT Hi all, I'm still a student and I'm selling websites on my free times to save some money to do my own business. However i need help with pricing, how do I come with the values? Local companies ask for ~3-4k for a simple website. I sold my first website for 450€ + 420€ for a whole year of maintenance, 870€ total. I know i went LOW on this one but i had no idea about the prices. I have a new client now, how do I proceed to calculate the price? Any advice would be SUPER welcome! Thank you!!! [link] [comments] |
I'm late on taxes and need help! Posted: 29 Apr 2018 01:34 PM PDT For starters, I have a partnership LLC owned by my boyfriend and myself in Florida that does manufacturing. I was under the impression that taxes were due on the 30th and just realized I needed a little more time so I went looking for extension information. Well apparently I didn't have the right dates at all and as of the 17th, you can't file an extension anymore so I'm freaking out. Even if I could file an extension, I can't figure out where to e-file. This is our first year filing taxes and neither of us really know what we're doing. I looked at getting a business TurboTax plan and using it to e-file, but my bf said that it seemed to all be covered by him filing his federal taxes (he's the only one pulling out any money). The fun part is though that his SSN has some known issues so he had to mail his taxes in again this year. Because he mailed them in, and we don't have state taxes (thanks Florida), I don't know what their current status is. I'm worried that our taxes aren't as sorted out as they should be. We use our business account for all of our purchases so I'm not sure how we'd be able to show expenses, new equipment, and income. We have most of our numbers sorted in Freshbooks, so getting them is no trouble, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with them. For a partnership LLC, are federal taxes taken care of by filing our personal taxes? or are we missing something? Also, do we have any business state taxes to file? And are there any questions I haven't asked, that I should be asking? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2018 05:02 PM PDT I used to do this fairly easily, but as I start ordering bigger quantities and more varieties of products and get more random costs associated, it starts getting a little overwhelming for me and I keep coming up with different costs. Basically I bring stuff over in containers and it's filled with different products with different FOB costs, then you have other costs only associated with certain products. Throw in trucking, customs, 3pl warehousing, etc. Is there any software or online resource that kind of automates this for the mathematically challenged/lazy? Like I just drop in some numbers? I built my own in excel but like I said it just started getting too confusing for me. Like there has to be some streamlined way bigger companies do this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2018 01:56 PM PDT Hello. I am new here. I am good with numbers and luke to use my brain. I know it's not as glamorous as some of the others that I have seen on here, but I an wondering if it would be worth it to invest in a bookkeeping/accounting course in the UK as a side income. What are your thoughts? [link] [comments] |
How can i charge my client more for the next job? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 09:14 AM PDT When i started with my client, i was just starting my business out and i really wanted to land the deal. So i gave a lowball bid, and he took it. Now he wants to start another project with me. Problem is i don't really want to do it for the same price as the other deal. Can i raise the price on him for this new contract without scaring him off? [link] [comments] |
SMALL BIZ OWNERS: Take Two Seconds To Help Me Out! Posted: 29 Apr 2018 06:11 PM PDT Hey Small Business Owners: I'm starting a new community for SBOs focused on growing your profits. Here's the story. For years I've been a highly paid marketing consultant and strategist (my fees start at five figures) and the marketing strategies I've designed and implemented have doubled and quadrupled my clients' businesses in way shorter amounts of time than they anticipated. Now, long story short, I want to help strengthen small businesses using the tools and strategies I know even if they can't afford my fees. So I'm starting an online community of business owners, just like you, filled with all kinds of trainings that will help you grow... (and also a community for you to get to know like-minded others.) You will MASSIVELY help me get this off the ground if you answer this one question: What is your #1 BIGGEST problem related to growing your business and your profits? It can be in marketing, sales, systems, mindset, or anything else. If enough people comment, I'd like to thank you by hosting a free training you can attend that goes WAY deeper into all the subjects you bring up in this thread--that you'll get solid, actionable takeaways to grow your business from. On the webinar, I'll get "market data" from you by asking you questions... and in return I'll answer your questions and give away info people normally pay me a minimum of $1500 for in a consulting session. No tricks, no gimmicks. I only want to see you scurry away with my best advice and use it to grow your business. Thanks, please comment below and let me know your #1 Biggest Problem/Obstacle To Growth! (I'll give you a brief answer in the thread below, and if you choose, we can go way deeper into it on the webinar.) P.S. I'm offering my expertise to you in return for getting to "peer" into your head a little, which will give me insights to get my next project off the ground. So I see this as a fair value exchange. That's why I'd love for you to comment below and let me know your biggest obstacle to growing your business. Don't be shy! No wrong answers, no judgement. [link] [comments] |

Hire a professional to set up my accounting software? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 11:32 AM PDT I'm a small business just starting out. I'll be dealing with a warehouse, shipping, printing, taxes and most importantly currency exchange. I spent the last few days trying to figure out how to set up an accounting software so I can track everything precisely. Since I sell in USA but live in a different country, I have to deal track all the exchange rates. Which doesn't make life easier. Would you advise me to pay an accountant to help me set up the software, so it will be on point? Thanks in advance, Daniel [link] [comments] |
Would you recommend a paintball/air-soft venue? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 05:28 AM PDT I live in a region of about half a million in the Midwest and there is some laser tag places but no paintball or air-soft venues. I think it would be so awesome to run a business like this. Also this place is growing like crazy. One of the cities is a top ten fastest growing cities in the country. I understand that the legal and insurance parts would be a nightmare but is that so much that I shouldn't even bother? I am also in a military reserve component so I am eligible for the VA Business loan. Do you have any advice or resources I should use? [link] [comments] |
