[TX] Do I have to report statutory rape/teenage porn? Age: 15

    UPDATE

Told my parents that I will report it BUT I told them that since this is a very serious thing we should get a criminal defense lawyer before we report this. They agreed and said they will get one as soon as humanely possible.

Basically my mom is pressuring me to report her friend (35F) for having sex with me. It was 100% consensual. I dont really want to report it. I also took some pictures and a video and she wants me to show that to the cops. I have not shown the video to anyone else and now I have to keep my phone secret because my parents pay for it so if they get it, they can just go open it at the store.

Her friend also took some pictures but nothing too explicit. My mom is telling me to report it and I'm not really sure I want to. I feel like she's breaching my privacy too. I'm not a child, I'm a teenager and I can make my own decisions.

She also told my dad about this and my dad is a little more chill. He's saying that it's fine and I agree with him, nothing bad happened. We used a condom and Ill probably get tested anyways in like 2 weeks. But my mom is super mad. She wants to go the police, show them the video, and put her friend (well shes not really her friend now) in jail. I get not wanting to be friends with her but putting her in prison??? Seems extreme imo

I woke up this morning to officers in my house with their guns drawn. (Louisiana)

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 05:07 PM PDT

This morning I woke up to yelling in my house. I heard "sheriffs department!" At first I thought it was my Dad pranking me because when he comes over he always knocks like how cops knock. Anyways I was butt ass naked. I yelled back "shut up dad!" because remember, I was sound asleep and to me that was the first plausible explanation that came to mind when I heard that. I wrapped myself in my blanket and walk out to a deputy or whatever with his gun out. Where we live it is pretty quiet and we don't have many neighbors so sometimes when my husband leaves for work in the morning he won't lock it. I'm cool with that, I know tons of people who live around these parts who don't lock their doors either. Anyways he gets to asking me who is in the house, who lives here, what's their names, where are they etc etc. i was half asleep, naked, and scared, so I just answered immediately and honestly. After this little interrogation he then proceeds to tell me that they are looking for someone involved in a domestic dispute a few houses down. He said someone told them our house is an abandoned camp. It used to be a camp in the past, but we have been here since January, and I am outside for hours every single day in my garden. There are baby toys, a trash can that has to be paid for, etc etc outside. I'm not buying it..

He then scolds me saying "you should really lock your doors ma'am." As if it was my fault he was in my house with a gun out. So, the domestic neighbor thing... I have one neighbor directly across the highway from me. I know these people, it wasn't them. I have about three neighbors on the same side of the highway as me, but still across the street.. whatever this dispute was it had to have happened almost if not more than a mile away. When I filed a complaint later they would not tell me where exactly this happened. They told me that I should be happy that this officer trespassed in my house because if I had been being held hostage they would have saved me. I asked if he was armed and they said that they didn't know but just assumed he was. They never cleared the house though. If they were so concerned I think that they would have made sure that there wasn't someone else like my son in the house being held hostage, and that maybe I was being forced to say that I was alone.. They are saying that they assumed the worst but did not act like it.

So here's the icing on the cake. They claimed they knocked and nobody responded so they felt they needed to come in. Problem is, I have an incredibly loud dog that alerts me to the slightest sound. She never barked until they started yelling. I also have a baby monitor webcam recording constantly that recorded all of the audio. They never knocked. On mobile so sorry for the shit formatting. What are my rights here? I have filed a complaint but the lieutenant that took the complaint seemed really annoyed with me.

Full legal custody-can the school keep contacting father?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 07:48 AM PDT

    I am in Georgia.

I keep finding out issues about my son at school but I find them out from him. They never send home paperwork or tell me about it. After his teacher told him not the bother coming to her class on Monday, I found out from my son (who is 10) that she is calling his father for all school related issues and having him speak to our son.

I have full legal and physical custody. I make every decision including medical and his father is controlling and tries to change everyone's opinions about me because he doesn't like that I have the control. He does it at every school, doctor, friend, family, everything. The only people who pick out what is going on are usually those who deal with manipulative men. Like our son's pedi picked up on it right away and won't allow him to harrass him anymore.

His father has even recently decided to leave the state and refuse to take any of his scheduled visitation until he gets back "in a few months". Which will HAPPEN to be after the summer because the court order says he is suppose to have him every other week and he decided he didn't want to do that. He puts on a good face for other people but he is not interested in being a parent, only the attention he gets from acting like one.

I have heard nothing about any of these school issues because they have called him and not me. I have taken the court order up to the school twice and laid out that he is not allowed to pick him up any school days but the one he is suppose to (which he hasn't done in... 6? Months) and I have established that the order lays out the times he is allowed to speak to him on the phone. It's set in there as appointments if he ever decides to do it.

Can I do anything about the school continuing to contact his father and continuing to have his father speak to him instead of them calling me, as his sole legal guardian?

My aggressive roommate keeps taking my emotional support animal without permission and refuses to stop

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 01:36 AM PDT

I currently reside in Indiana. There are some serious underlying issues existing between me and my roommate. I do not feel as though my cat (ESA) is safe. The individual has been very aggressive for the last month and recently attacked me for standing up for myself and calling him out on his poor behavior. I suffered no injuries outside of a scraped up hand, having quickly talked him out of violent behavior with the help of a common friend. My real concern is the safety of my cat (not to mention my personal belongings even though that is not the main concern here).

Last night he took my cat to his room without permission, which is a reoccurring issue. When I knocked to retrieve my cat, my roommate threw the cat down harder than he should have, slammed the door, and refused to speak with me outside of text. I told him that he was no longer allowed to take the cat to his room but he told me that he was going to anyway.

I understand that there are laws around drug prescriptions with regards to theft and abuse. What legal action can I take with an emotional support animal prescription if he continues forward with this behavior?

Previous employer filed a false police report, had me arrested, case was dropped, owes me 10k of overtime, and is now damaging my name and reputation in the industry I work in. (NY)

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 11:59 AM PDT

I posted 8 months ago that I was arrested and that my employer had me arrested after filing a false police report.

Case was dropped, I'm still owed 10k in overtime that went unpaid and the state is looking into it.

I was contacted by a former coworker saying that the former employer is stating I was convicted for 3-5 years in prison on 3 counts of felony grand larceny for stealing from him and the company. My lawyer who defended me has all but disappeared and has all the paperwork and proof I'm innocent from the case.

I'm unsure of where to go and how to proceed. I've developed severe PTSD from consistently looking over my shoulder and the arrest itself. I want to leave this in the past but it is brought into the light constantly.

(Minnesota) Trooper put my name, the passenger, on a ticket meant for the driver.

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 10:18 AM PDT

The driver was driving and was pulled over for a cup of coffee in the dash. She ended up having weed on her. So it's a petty misdemeanor because the cop was being generous. I had nothing on me, cooperated fully. Was a chill stop. but my license was taken. In the end, my name and license are the ones on the ticket! I said literally a couple of words to the cop and the cop spoke to the driver for like twenty minutes. What do I do to stop this? Does it just get transferred to the driver? Thanks for any answers!

Is swearing at someone considered assault? (Canada)

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 08:34 AM PDT

I swore at someone in Arabic with 2 witnesses in Toronto. I basically called him a "sack of balls" which is more offensive than it sounds in Arabic. Is this considered assault or a commitment of an offence in the Criminal Code?

Edit: The person I called a "sack of balls" did understand Arabic.

Boyfriend needs to pay money for “free housing” as part of his job

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 09:13 AM PDT

My boyfriend and I are both currently in college, and this summer he's going to be working at our school as sort of a resident assistant. The job is advertised as free room and board, plus a 100 dollar a week stipend. When he went to the first meeting about the job, they told him (and everyone else planning on taking the job) that there's a non-negotiable "commons fee" of about 200 dollars. So, effectively, they're asking everyone to work for two weeks with no stipend. Is this legal? In case it matters, they have to take the free room and board; they can't opt-out of it or do a different living arrangement. Located in PA

I was arrested for trespassing when I wasn’t trespassing.

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 08:22 AM PDT

So a few weeks ago I travel with my friends to Arizona to visit a friend who attends a college there. The first night we're there we go to this bar downtown and have some drinks (we pregamed with shots and four loko so needless to say I'm already drunk at this point). While we're at this bar I step outside to have a smoke. I smoke my cigarette for five minutes and then proceed to step back inside only to find out the bouncer will not let me back in. Not because I did anything wrong but because I have the look of intoxication on my face. I'm confused as to why I've been bounced and I ask him if I could go inside for a minute to let my friends know I'll be outside (I would have called but my phone is dead and I don't have any of their numbers memorized). He refuses to let me back in and I try to explain to him that I'm not from this city, I don't know where I'm at and my phone is dead, I just want a moment to speak to my group, (also I left my jacket inside and the weather is in the 40s so that sucked). So while we're having this argument on the sidewalk outside of the bar, he gets fed up with me asking to go back in and he calls the police. Now when the police officer showed up, I was the first to approach her and tell her my situation in hopes that she can maybe help me reason with the bar manager/bouncer. She tells me that she does not have the authority to get me inside to speak with my friends (which is something I understand, it's private property after all). She then demands me to walk down the sidewalk and leave. I refuse to because 1. That would not solve my problem 2. There's nowhere for me to go, my friends had the key to the place we were staying at. 3. Walking down the street in the cold, dark and alone (without a working cell phone) in a city you don't know doesn't sound appetizing 4. It would be best for me to wait for them outside of the bar

So since I refuse to comply to her demand of walking down the sidewalk she arrests me for trespassing third degree. Keep in mind that this entire situation had been occurring on the PUBLIC sidewalk outside of the bar. I go to jail for the day, pay 100 dollar bail, I now have ridiculous lawyer fees I need to pay and the whole situation just sucks cause I was only there on vacation just to be thrown in the slammer when all I wanted to do was be reunited with my friends and get home safely. So is this complete bullshit? Can I be arrested for trespassing on a sidewalk in Arizona? I'll admit that I was drunk but still cognitive and I was not charged for anything like "public intoxication" or whatever the conviction is. I have my pre trial in a few weeks. I just want to make sure that this charge will be dismissed because it's so small and petty and frankly I don't think I did anything legally wrong. I'm not a bad person, I'm a young guy who's 2 years out of college and works full time and is trying his best to make it in this world.

    The short version:

I was in Arizona and arrested for verbally trying to get back into a bar when I had been bounced for being overly intoxicated. I was on the sidewalk outside of the bar when I was arrested for trespassing.

    Any advice is appreciated

[California] Quit job of 1.4 years. CEO was furious and said nasty things. Felt horrible and agreed to consult. Now they are haggling over hours and unused PTO hours. Worth fighting?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 12:26 AM PDT

I worked for a start-up for 1.4 years as a full stack developer. I quit a few months ago and gave a 2 week notice. CEO was furious and became verbally abusive and told me I was an asshole for abandoning the team, a pussy, said no one liked me and everyone would be happy I was gone.

I really didn't want to work there anymore, but I felt bad that no one liked me so I agreed to work an extra 2 weeks (4 weeks total) and then consult for 50 hours over the next month. Most of this was negotiated over email with my manager (not the CEO). I worked remotely using their computer and they did not allow me into the office.

After my consulting was over I tried to ask about my unused PTO, which I remember was something like 38 hours in Zenefits (but I lost access to the actual number when my employment ended). My manager said she would look into it but never got back to me. I followed up a few weeks later and found out she quit too.

I'm very uncomfortable reaching out to the CEO because of how bitter and angry he was at our last conversation, so I reached out to another founder. He told me that of the hours I worked as a consultant, he had to re-do a bunch of stuff and they would only pay me for 35 of the 61 hours I worked. Is this normal? Should I accept it?

He said he looked into my PTO hours and claimed that there were a bunch of half days, sick days and vacation days that I took but were not reported in Zenefits so I was technically negative with PTO, but because they want to leave on good terms they would pay me 16 hours of PTO. I honestly don't believe this since I took very little PTO and even came in to work on many holidays and weekends (probably worked at least 20 weekends over the year and at least 4 holidays which were paid and I was the only one in the office. Does this seem reasonable?

Edit: The difference being disputed is something like $4,200 (about $1000 from the PTO hours difference and $3200 from the contracting hours. I'm not sure if it would make sense to hire a lawyer for this amount.

Edit2: I just found out about California's Waiting Time Penalty, which seems like it's applicable since they withheld my PTO I quit in February and still haven't been paid my vacation time. Does anyone know more about this? If I understand it, I'm entitled to a full months pay since they haven't yet paid me.

[New Mexico] Free disability accommodation has been taken away. Reported frustration to HR, and manager has made job unbearable ever since.

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 08:26 AM PDT

As the subject says, I have a disability accommodation that does not cost the company anything, and allows me to perform my job duties like a normal person. The accommodation is a phone transcription service which translates audio to text for me.

It's free for them, and doesn't get in the way of anything at the company. I've successfully used this accommodation at all previous jobs without incident.

This accommodation was taken from me mid-way through my job at the company while I was performing well.

When I complained to HR that it makes my job much more difficult without, the company put me on their standard 90-day PIP, but changed the due date to 30 days after signing. I haven't signed yet since they haven't asked me to do so, but they're "working on it."

Since then, my manager has been interrupting me on the job repeatedly while I'm trying to focus on my duties. He's forced me to change my hours, and wants to know every single time I have a doctor's appointment, and will no longer allow me to make up for the time later in the day as they used to. He's also suggesting that I need to schedule my doctor's appointments at least a week in advance and tell him about them.

I signed on with flexible hours, but they are taking those away. Another employee approached me and told me that I should seriously file a charge with EEO because the company is racist and discriminatory, and he thinks they're setting me up to fail, but I'm not quite sure what to do here.

My performance was good prior to the revocation of my accommodation, and I'm very frustrated here. I'm actually not quite sure what to do.

Can my manager clock me out once all our work is done for the day? (Pennsylvania)

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 09:11 AM PDT

I work in a retail store. Employees of the store clock themselves in using a three digit ID code and a four letter password but the manager has to clock everyone out to avoid the problem of people leaving early and having someone else clock out for them at the end of their scheduled time, it's literally company policy.

But my parents are arguing that it's against Pennsylvania labor laws for managers to clock out employees and believe my manager is taking advantage of us/ the company by clocking us out earlier than our scheduled times because at the end of store closing we do recovery (fixing the store up, making sure everything is nice and neat) and sometimes we finish 10-20 minutes earlier than our scheduled times. My main manager says she edits the times so it ends up showing we clocked out at the exact time our scheduled shift ends. I don't feel as though I'm being taken advantage of because the maximum amount of days I work is four days a week and I only work at most five hours at a time. But my parents are arguing otherwise.

tl;dr Parents think manager is screwing over company or its employees because sometimes we all finish our work early

Is there anything that can be done about my tipping situation at work?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 12:21 PM PDT

I work at a boba tea shop, and I get paid over minimum wage. My managers put out a tip jar, and our digital register (square) automatically asks for a tip from customers. However, these tips do not go to the employees and are instead counted towards the sales for that day. We get about $200 in tips each day by customers who think they are going to the employees.

Now, this problem isn't really about the money for me. Rather, I think it is dishonest and unfair to lie to the customers about where this money is going. It also does the opposite of giving employees incentive, and causes many to be bitter watching people give tips all day. I wish that they didn't even put out a tip jar or automatically ask for money on the register.

I don't believe this is illegal in my state (Missouri) but is there anything I can do to help the situation? I like my job but this one thing is bothering me.

Sold my ps4 and controller in working condition, buyer claims controller is now broken.

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 08:31 AM PDT

Basically as the tittle says. I sold this girl my ps4 of 3 years because I wanted a switch. I wanted 250 because it was near perfect. The girl offered me 200 and I said ok. The system in question works good. A little dusty inside but it's fairly quiet. The controller isn't linked to the ps4 yet as it was my second controller. And my first one wasn't a suitable sale since it's r2 was broken but it still worked other then that.

So because of this you need to use the usb wire to link it to the system before use. Also to charge it. This worked for me for months. So long I replaced the thumb things because I wore them out. So yeah it's an old controller to go with my old ps4. So I thought 200 was fair. The controller worked for me for the whole 3 years I had it.

Now she claims the controller doesn't work at all. She's also complaining about the noise the fan makes because of the dust.

What should I do I already gave the money to my mother who supports me. She spent it on our phone bill. She gets paid soon. I'm not sure I want to buy back the broken controller but if I should how much? I already got low balled into 200$ which if she paid 250, I would have gladly returned 50$ but since she got the sale price shouldn't I say your problem? Should I give her the broken r2 controller too and call it even?

I'm not sure I don't wanna keep her waiting for a response since I don't know my legal standing.

This was sold in Canada. On Facebook. Manitoba. If that all helps.

    Edit: corrected spelling

My old high school teacher sexually assaulted me

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 01:31 AM PDT

Today, almost a year after the incident, I came forward to the police and reported a sexual assault against me by one of my former high school teachers.

The incident happened in 2017. I ran into him at a bar and he pretended to need directions back to his hotel as an excuse to get me alone and grope me.

Not only did I come forward, but I brought two witnesses, one of which who saw the incident happen.

r/legaladvice: how do I drag this scumbag? Is there anything I can do to either ensure his likelihood of bring charges, or take him for all he's worth?

Edit: I am located in British Columbia, Canada.

[AB, CANADA] Came back into possession of our dog after she was seemingly abandoned by new owner, advice?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 10:25 AM PDT

Apologies if this is the wrong subreddit for this, this is the best sub I could think of.

I'm a 19 year old guy. Have been wanted a dog for ages. Approximately a year ago, I moved out to go to university. During this time, my mom and sister decided to get a dog. For obvious reasons I was upset, we had dogs in the past and it always ended up in us giving them away because it never worked out (last dog we had was about 10 years ago). My mother and little sister were the only ones in the house after I moved. Eventually, my sister stopped pulling her own weight and it became too much work for my mom. Since I wasn't living at home, without me there to take care of the dog, she rehomed the dog to a family in a different town, confirming my predictions when they first got her. We had her for about 5 months.

Fast forward a couple months, the family we rehomed her to contact my mom and explained that she didn't get along with her other dog, so they rehomed her to a different family in different town. They contacted my mom and asked for the information so they could get the chip changed in her from my mothers information to theirs. My mother was fine with that and told them everything they needed to know, as well as the fact that there would be a fee involved. We never heard back from them.

Fast forward to 3 days ago, my mom calls me and tells me that she had the dog at work. I was shocked but elated, and asked how. Supposedly she was found inside a salvage vehicle at 6 am in a very sketchy part of the city covered in mud, the people that found her called the police. It had looked like she was there all night, potentially more. She only had her collar, no name tag. The police took her to the shelter, they ran a scan and found the chip was in my mother's name, so they phoned her and brought the dog to her.

I was so excited, I bought everything she needed at my work (I work at a pet store), and brought it home for her. I feel like I was given a chance with this dog to actually give her some consistency in her ownership. It's not fair to her to be moving around so often to different owners. She recognizes us and seems happy as can ever be.

Last night, my girlfriend was browsing Facebook and ended up finding an ad on a pet recovery page by the woman who had her for about 6 months, saying that she was lost and misses her dearly. After some light stalking, we found out that she drives to the city (about 2 hours away) for her job, and I suppose she brings the dog with her? That would explain how she wound up in the city she was in, 2 hours away from her old home. The thing both me and my mother are concerned about is the fact that she was found locked up inside a salvage vehicle that wasn't fit to drive for who knows how long in a very sketchy area in the city. My mother seems dead set on keeping her. As far as the legality of the situation is concerned, and confirmed by the cop that brought her to my mother, she is our dog. Chipped in my mother's name since they never changed the chip. I seem to be stuck in a moral dilemma because I feel like I've been given a chance to be able to care for this dog like I originally wanted to, and we don't know what happened to her and how she ended up in that vehicle. On the other hand, I know my heart would ache if I lost my dog a) never found out where she went, or b) was found by her previous owners and never given back. But I'm stuck because of the shituation she was found in. Were they abusive? Did she run away? Was she stolen? She is extremely well behaved so I find it hard to believe she would have ran away. It should also be noted there seemed to have been no attempt by the previous owners to contact either the SPCA or the police. It should also be noted that she tires very quickly, and the first thing she did when she went into our spacious back yard was run around for 10 minutes, indicating she may have been cooped up it by getting enough exercise.

[Illinois] Can you refuse service if someone is paying in all quarters?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 11:38 AM PDT

I was on the road today coming home from work and I stopped at a convenient mart on my way home. I wanted to buy a drink and a candy bar and I had no cash on me and I wasn't about to cover a $3 charge with credit. I dug out enough quarters out of my change cup and when I went to pay he refused to serve me because he either didn't want to count the quarters or what.

Me [16 F] with my dad [53 M] - Is secretly recording my dad admitting to abuse to risky?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 11:09 PM PDT

I'm having a bit of trouble at home and have decided to ask the internet for help.

    I live in Western Australia.

BACKSTORY(not fully necessary to read, just gives you an idea of the situation; you can just skip down to specific question if you like): My mom and dad are first cousins. My parents met after my mom was born and my dad would take care of her as a newborn and practically lived with her until she was 9. When my mom was 15, she was forced to marry my dad who was very abusive (sexually, mentally and slightly physically), and was also a drunk at times. She was also forced to get pregnant with me, my highly autistic brother and little sister, whom my dad used to abuse all the time.

My dad used to do all kinds of stuff, some of the more significant things being, he poured kettle water on my autistic brother when he was 1, put his p*nis in my hand when I was 7, and encouraged my already-suicidal mom to kill herself from 2005 - 2016 (my mom's fine; all the attempts (14 maybe) failed & police got involved etc;).

ISSUE AT HAND: My mom is now seeking a divorce & is ready to tell the family the truth about my abusive dad, but my dad is a very good liar and has already convinced many people(family & friends) that he is innocent and has got the police off his back.

I've come up with the idea to go to his house with a recorder in my pocket and get him to admit on tape what he did. He'll boast about it to me and how we all deserved the abuse but won't do it in public. With this tape proving him guilty, I could have something to hold over him and give to the family to prove I'm right.

\****SPECIFIC QUESTION:******\** Is secretly recording my dad admitting to rape (of my mom), low-key molesting me & other abuse to me & my siblings etc; a good idea? Or is it too dangerous?

Hi All i am very new to freelancing and currently freelancing for a client. I basically write Terraform modules, Ansible Playbooks, Chef cookbooks for this particular client. He is asking me to sign a legal document saying that the works is 100% owned by him and i will not reuse it anywhere in any form. But the problem is, i am not writing any code/logic for a app or website, i am just putting things together from documentation and making them usable in modular format. should i sign it ?

i would be very grateful for advice

    Thanks

What are my options if my legal guardian loses his work visa?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 05:01 AM PDT

My father is a worker under the CW-1 visa in the CNMI. The USCIS recently decided to cut down the number of visas issued to workers from around 13k to just 5k. I'm a minor and a US citizen. I've lived here my entire life. My father has a very high chance of not receiving this visa as it's chosen based on a lottery system, and HB-1 visas aren't an option either as he's not working in a field of specialty, nor does he have the minimum requirement of a bachelor's degree to qualify. If the S. 2325 bill (which increases the cap back to 13k people in the year 2019) does not pass the House of Representatives and get signed by President Trump, then I'm afraid that he must return to his home country, and I along with him. The problem with this is I'm a native English speaker and have been my whole life. I'm not fluent in my father's language, nor do we have the money to afford international schools in his area so I can speak English and get a proper education as I would have done so here (usually tuition for international schools there is around 300k annually). I don't know what my options or his are. Is there any way for him to remain here legally, sending me to a school in the mainland to live in, or anything else aside from forcing both me and my single parent guardian to go back to his home country? Thanks so much and I'd appreciate any advice I get!

Edit: my location is Saipan, Marianas Pacific in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. My dad's home country is Beijing, China.

[PA] Rental properties have externally cracked windows

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 10:08 AM PDT

I'm a college student living in a house with a few friends. Our next door neighbors live in an identical house owned by the same landlord. Last night I assume some drunk kids came through and threw some rocks at the sides of the houses. Our house has a decent crack in the side door but the neighbor has a sunroom that got some decent pelting. Looks like someone had thrown a handful at once.

If my lease says nothing about being responsible for windows, can my landlord legally pull money from the security deposit for repairs if it's fairly obvious both houses were victims of an external crime?

[Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, Canada]Body Shop Not Torquing Down Wheel Lug Nuts

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 12:58 PM PDT

Last week, I was trying to install stainless steel brake lines on my car, I started with the rear driver side and accidentally snapped off the flare nut portion attached to the brake hard line and my car was no longer able to be driven. While the car was jacked up, I quickly installed all four wheels and hand tightened the lug nuts. I did not torque the wheel nuts after getting it off the jack stands as it was going to be towed to the shop the next day. The shop repaired the brake hard line and installed my stainless steel brake lines on the rear passenger and driver side only. They also flushed all sides of the car with brake fluid that I provided. I confirmed this by bleeding the front driver side brake line. The problem is that a day after I got the car back, I could hear some thumping noises when I was driving straight, the noise would go away when the steering wheel was turned more than 10 degrees, my friend was also in the car and was witness to the sound. Yesterday, I checked my lug nuts on my front two tires and the front driver and passenger side lug nuts were not tightened at all, I could twist them by hand. The rear wheel lug nuts took more effort to break as they were properly torqued down. I took the highway many times after getting the car back and the noise was still there, once discovering this neglect I realized that there was a high chance of the front driver and passenger side lug nuts coming off while driving and possibly getting into a serious accident. I have recorded phone calls with the shop owner who confirmed that they flushed all sides of the car so I know they removed and put back the front two wheels. Is there any legal recourse that I can take against this body shop?

Friend’s parents threatening to deport them, unsure of her rights (Australia)

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 02:36 AM PDT

First post here, unsure if this is the right place. So my friend (15 yr old) left home week and half ago and has been living in a stable place with a friend since and now her father cane around today and threatened her to be deported to England with her mum by revoking her visa if she doesn't go back home with him so I'm wondering is any of this true can he do any of this or is there nothing to be worried about?

[NE] My dog was attacked by my neighbors pitbulls. What can be done with the main pitbull attacker?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 12:35 AM PDT

Our neighbor (whom we have been very close with for years) was out walking one of her 3 pitbulls while the other 2 escaped the house due to a faulty front-door lock.

My mother and I were walking our dog when we came across the pitbulls, and in an instant one of the pitbulls, named Penny, grabbed hold of my 9-year old basset hound, Daisy, and viciously thrashed her around whilst her teeth were sunk into my dogs neck. It took nearly 2 minutes to get Penny off, and we immediately rushed to an emergency vet. It was horrifically traumatizing for all of us.

    Daisy and her wounds

The police showed, took statements, and the dogs returned to our neighbors house. End of story?

As far as I know, all 3 pitbulls are still living in the house located right next to us, and nothing has been done to them, and it's been 5 days since the incident.

My family agrees that Penny should be put down, and the other 2 taken away, as they all 3 have a history of violence and aggression with other dogs/people, and are not living in a stable home.

    What do we do?
