Tree fell on my house - what to expect from my HOI. Posted: 04 Mar 2018 03:53 PM PST During the recent storm in the Northeast I had a sizeable tree falling on my house and doing some substantial damage to my roof, siding and smashed some windows. Since this is the first time actually using my insurance I want to know what to expect from my HOI (Liberty Mutual, Pennsylvania).
I assume that the roof/siding situations are maybe more reasonable to argue for. Looking for advice how to deal with my insurance adjuster and what is a reasonable demand. Thanks in advance for your advice. [link] [comments] |
Fred Loya is attempting to dismiss my claim based on Part E clause. Posted: 04 Mar 2018 10:24 AM PST So I caused an accident Friday before last. The cops came, car was towed, etc. I did not immediately call to report the accident to Fred Loya in part because their claims line says this
and I assumed they wouldn't be open until that Monday. I was also pretty sure I was 100% at fault so figured I could just wait until the other person filed the claim and deal with it from there. I was called Monday afternoon to talk about the claim the other guy had filed, we talked, I explained the circumstances of the accident, she said thank and that they'd be in touch and that was it. Friday evening I get a letter from Fred Loya saying they are considering dropping my claim over "Part E - Duties after an accident or loss" Which says "We must be notified promptly in wrigint of how, when and where the accident or loss happened. notice should also include the names and addresses of any injured persons and of any witnesses" Like most people I had never heard of this before and I'm blindsided. Obviously I now realize I should have made attempts to contact them immediately, but I did not realize this was a clause. I still feel like our conversation on Monday should count as notification, but I'm not sure legally how that holds up since I didn't initiate contact and it was not written notification. I feel like the person who called me should have explained some of this to me though. I've done some research on Fred Loya now and apparently they are extremely shady and will find literally any reason to avoid paying out on claims. Is anyone with more knowledge of the situation able to explain to me how screwed or not screwed I am? How soon is prompt? Can I still provide them a written statement and be okay? Because they are closed on the weekends I can't get any answers from them until the weekend. I've heard that in situations like these it's usually the claimant who needs to go through their insurance company or sure the insurance company, so as the insurance holder is there anything I can do? Should I get an attorney? I'm worried that instead of going after the insurance company the other party might simply sue me. Any advice would be really appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Being billed for a yearly physical 7 months later??? Posted: 04 Mar 2018 05:43 PM PST Didn't have to pay a copay back in August when I was getting a yearly physical because I was told that it is free...nothing ever showed up on my bill summary...suddenly I check it -- in March, months later -- and there's a change of almost 14$ for that appointment that is now somehow 40$ exactly????? I'm told that they aren't charging me for the appointment itself, but for the form I had to fill out before the appointment, the one where they gauge whether or not I have depression? Is this for real? Is there nothing I can do about this? Will this impact my credit score? I'm so annoyed right now. [link] [comments] |
Condo Fire - Questions about rebuild Posted: 04 Mar 2018 06:38 PM PST Hi all, I have a few questions regarding my condo - throwaway for whatever reason... Background: Back in November of 2016 my condo in CT burned down while I was on vacation. In total 12 units (whole building) were destroyed. Luckily for me when I returned my girlfriend's family was more than happy to take me in (my family is in RI). As far as my personal claim goes my insurance company was fantastic, they fronted me money for cloths, helped me itemize my place, got me paid for everything and then paid me out my limit for loss of use (or whatever it's called in personal lines). This was great - paid my rent for about a year, and figured everything should be done by then. Fast-forward to this November (2017) - condo is still not done being rebuilt but there's some progress (outside is done). They told me it should be done by Christmas... I attend a meeting to pick out paint and whatnot when the contractor informed me that the insurance company (I'm still trying to find out what company it is - it's a pain in the ass trying to get any information from my management company) has been holding out on several hundreds of thousands of dollars on the claim and he's been essentially working on goodwill. I also find out that everything else has been put on pause because the electric company has come back and said it's a new building therefore modern building code says the wiring from the street to the building needs be in pipes. We then requested to be grandfathered in. So now fast-forward to recently - we finally hear back from the electric company (yes it took months to hear back) - they said no, must be done. Now we need to press the insurance company for even more money (insurance endorsement says everything must be built to code) - apparently this could cost several thousands of dollars (20ish?). So now at this point absolutely nothing is happening and I'm back in with the girlfriend's parents (again I'm lucky I have this option) as it's not exactly fun paying both my mortgage and rent. I'm now trying to figure out if I have any options - I'd like to point fingers but I'm not sure where to start. Is this the contractor or original adjuster at fault for not bringing up the fact that a new building should have that wiring work done from the start? I think the management company finally placed a complaint to the DOI but is there any recourse here or am I entitled to any compensation if something were to come of that? Am i just overthinking the whole thing and I'm SOL because I didn't have enough insurance coverage (loss of use wise)? Sorry I'm not more concise in exactly what I'm asking but I'm just getting a bit tired of the whole damn thing at this point. Thanks in advance for any advice / tips. It's already pretty late so I'll respond tomorrow / add any information that might be helpful. [link] [comments] |
how much will it cost to have car insurance that pays whatever you originally paid for the new car? Posted: 04 Mar 2018 10:26 AM PST let's say I purchase a new car for $30,000(excluding taxes/fees), how much will it cost to have car insurance that pays me $30,000 if the car is totaled or stolen? I know this sounds silly, but hear me out. My niece is a musician and her instrument is insured for around $20,000. It was originally purchased for $18,000 five years ago, but has since been appraised at $20,000. The annual premium is only $159. It has always been $159 for the last 5 years. Unfortunately, it was stolen from the backstage of a concert last year. The insurance company promptly paid her claim and cut her a check for $19,900.(because there's a $100 deductible) It was a quick and painless claim. All they wanted was claim form and a copy of the police report. The claim was processed within a week and she received the check in the mail 5 days after that. I know an instrument and a car are not the same thing. I'm just wondering how much it will cost if someone offer car insurance like that. :) Thanks! [link] [comments] |
