Anyone currently using paypal to accept payments without requiring users to leave your website?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 04:20 PM PST

I'm planning on incorporate in Estonia and then I'll get a PayPal business account. That's all very cool but I have major issues.

    1) PayPal support is horrible. I can't even get in touch with them before I have a business account

    2) Requiring users to leave my website/app is not a option for me. I want them to be able to input their credit cards on my website directly and at same time process with a 3rd party so I don't have to worry about PCI compliance

    3) If PayPal cannot make this possible, the only other option in Estonia is Braintree, but if they cannot allow the transfers of funds to my users ( I'm a marketplace, like Airbnb ) then I won't incorporate in Estonia at all.

    Thanks fellow's.

    Can't be done with Braintree/Stripe/Ayden

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 12:45 PM PST

    Hello all,

    Our two sided apartment rental marketplace caters to, what some would call, a "riskier" demographic (think college students & recent college grads) and we want to do the following;

Charge and hold in escrow up to 4 months rent in advance, to be released to our merchants on a monthly basis. We'd like to accomplish this all in one transaction.

Braintree Marketplaces - We would have to run 4 separate cc transactions with 4 separate releases to merchants or one transaction with a one time release to merchants (all money received up front)

Stripe: Only permits escrow up to 90 days so if users reserved more than 3 months in advance then this wouldn't work for us.

Ayden: Their marketplace product is only open to those processing $100mm a year and we're not quite there yet.

I didn't think what we were trying to do was rocket science but I'm finding it more complicated than I originally thought.

Startup ideas for a college student?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 08:46 PM PST

Background: I'm a computer science sophomore who is interested in starting my own business. My college offers a free startup workshop for students, partners with a startup incubator, and has resources to help me out. I just became VP of Operations for our entrepreneurship club and one of the goals we have next year is to connect student business leaders to other students who can provide services useful to their startup such as accounting, legal, software, design, and so on. I will be able to use this myself as well when looking for help. Finally, I'm passionate about technology and making a difference in the community. I want to do something that can fit in my current skill set but also is unique.

Here are some ideas I jotted down already:

    • Startup Connector. Just like the service I said we will be rolling out on campus, this could be an idea for a larger scale service that connects professionals in a local area with one another.

    • Tutoring Services. Infographics, Slides, Videos, Ebooks, Homework sets, and of course on campus tutoring are all possible services offered. I also have the idea of offering a free textbook for a class they are taking if they attend X sessions. (For instance if they are in Physics 1 and take 5 tutoring sessions at $30 each and next semester they need a different textbook for Chemisty I, we provide it free to them.)

    • Event management is a mess here but they are adding a new club system next year so I'll have to wait and see if it fixes some of the existing problems. Even if it does, I think helping students find venues for their organization and handling stuff for them would be beneficial (and making it more streamlined)

    • IT solutions? This is really broad because campus IT has a lot of student solutions and IT is also in the process of their own development plan to expand the department and improve technology on campus. Maybe something like a cross between fiverr and IT? A student needs a short python script to organize all math files into a math folder, and so on?

    • Udemy courses for various topics, hiring tutors to teach them, creating original content, and so on.

    • Security awareness training for IT staff (it's a campus directive anyways to have X staff trained each year in this), or for small businesses that cannot afford pricey training

    • Green initiative company. Probably the most profitable thing I came up with but it will take the most effort. Offering solutions to make homes more green, affordable solar energy panels, developing plans for businesses to erase their footprint, and other environmental protection services.

I will be reaching out to a ton of people and asking them about what problems exist on campus that could be solved and will spend the summer working on some lean canvases and see if anything will come to fruition.

If I missed anything please let me know and I will edit this post.

    Thanks!

    Weird startup metrics?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 12:45 AM PST

What are some weird startup metrics? Which you would target for weekly 7% growth?

From unconventional companies, not consumer focused companies.

Examples would be: Biotech, Nuclear Energy, Hard Tech, Quantum Computing, R&D, Finance, Hedge Fund, AI.

    /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Sorry for the wall of text, ignore after this point.

    500 character sub rules...

Seeking creative partner who wants to move the world forward

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 07:11 PM PST

Looking for a multi-faceted creator, interested in some or all of the following:

    • Writing (Fiction / Scripts / Technical)
    • Design (Art / Graphics / Product / Web App / Game / Marketing)
    • Content Production (Video / Audio / Blog / Comics)
    • Organization Systems (Optimizing industry, institution, and business processes.)
    • Fixing World (Taking everything wrong and making it right.)

Bonus for writing TV/film, and for being in Las Vegas.

Basically I'm about halfway through my $200k startup, doing everything (sans coding) and it can get pretty exhausting. I'm now approaching the point where I do not need to spend as much time on the project, so I'm preparing for the next endeavors.

Ideally, I'd like to find a person who loves to design, build, create, and optimize. A person who has great ideas and has brought at least a few things to life. A person who focuses on what the world could be instead of what it is (gross). Being able to both lead and follow is a big plus.

Also looking for challenges in terms of helping others with their projects. I can design and optimize pretty much anything, so if you need a creative partner or contractor for your project, I'm your guy.

How to start my own app development company in 15 days?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 07:17 AM PST

Hey guys, I have an upcoming app project which will be assigned to my company in 2-3 weeks.I need some inputs in some aspects of starting my own company.

I need to get some idea practical insights to be careful of in the process of development cycle, project management, business development, day-to-day task handling, employee management, work policies, delivery, Legal issues, Copyright issues, Service period after delivery, Legal Contract, Payment Terms. More like tips to reduce issues and conflicts at later stage and manage efficiently utilize resources.

I am asking for practical inputs here. Please guide me and point me to some resources that will help me avoid issues and manage things better. I have a technical background but I need guidance to run the business better.

EDIT 1: The post is intended to ask for dos and donts in these processes or more like asking for things to be watchful and careful for. I have been planning this for sometime and have consulted and met with many people. I have fair idea about the process. Although, I intended my question more like this way but when I read it after seeing some comments, I realized what a language blunder I did here. I am not a native English speaker so my post did not came out right. I am not doing it to ruin somebody's project. Only the legal and payment plan are left to understand at all. I will finalize everything first before making an offer. The offer from my side will be drawn only when its all ready. I can ask for more time if needed to finish my internal setup. I intend to do the business the right way. Be kind and helpful. Thanks.

    A video sharing site

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:35 AM PST

    Hello,

Based on another thread, someone gave me the idea to start a new YouTube. I've seen its problems lately, as we all have.

YouTube exists because of the people(content generators), so let's keep it with the people! We'll have to entirely crowdfund this, but I promise I'll never monetize it. Basically, just need donations for infrastructure, operations, and the inevitable legal battles. But if everyone in America donated 1 dollar like, once a quarter, we'd be set - point being, not TOO difficult, if you can get people onboard.

    Thoughts?
