My business potentially has a huge account but we won't be operational for another 4 weeks.

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 10:30 AM PST

Hello, let me start by saying thanks for reading this post and taking the time to offer any advice. My associate and I started a draft line cleaning service and we are in the very early stages of our business being able to serve our potential clients. Right now we are ironing out all the wrinkles in the services we offer by only servicing a few smaller bars in our area, we also need to buy more equipment to service larger bars. We were contacted by one of the biggest accounts in the area, a bar with 48 different taps. This is great for us and we are so happy they are giving us an opportunity to sell our services to them! This is where your advice could really be useful for us here, how do we keep them interested in our service even though I wouldn't be able to actually preform the service for another three to four weeks.

    Cheers, Bradey

How do I ensure I'm getting the royalties that are due to me?

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 04:14 PM PST

I'm in the middle of negotiating royalties for some of my artwork to be used on various apparel for the first time. I'll be asking for an advance and a 6% royalty.

How do I ensure the seller is giving me the correct royalty due and not misrepresenting the numbers of sales to pay me less?

Do I ask for detailed sales reports and such?

Am I just going to have to put my trust in them?

Virtual Phone Systems (grasshopper, Google voice, etc). Anyone have one they love?

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 12:56 PM PST

Looking to add a separate business phone number and have it go to my device. Requirements are calling-texting- customizable voicemail. I know grasshopper does this, but I'm not sure if google voice would get the job done for free. Anyone have experience with this?

    Anybody else suffer from Analysis-Paralysis?

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 04:20 PM PST

I have wanted to start a business since I was ~12 years old. I've tried my hand at various things including:

    • Volunteer website for Thai School (was running for several years, but never commercialised)
    • Digital marketing consultant (got as far as setting up a website)
    • Design company (got as far as business cards)
    • Online health store for protein bars (got as far as a website & supplier)
    • AirBNB property rental management (got as far as setting up a website)
    • Portable soldering irons for field repairs (imported ~15 and sold them via local store, the product quality was questionable so I stopped selling them)
    • Car Inspection Android App (got as far as having an app developed)

The best way I can put it is 'Analysis-Paralysis'. Meaning I find an idea, research it thoroughly, but never really get beyond that. I have a fear of committing money (I have a full time job and money isn't a major issue) and time without any assurance of success.

Anyone else have this in the past? What did you do to get past it?

I started a retail business that repackages paint into small containers, and stretch primed canvas. I package all the products in my room, and make the canvases in my brother garage. Sales are slow, and I have mainly been using Facebook for sales. Would a actual location help my sales?

    Starting software agency

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 03:03 PM PST

I've been a software developer in consulting business for a couple of years. Now I want to start my own agency.

I think I have a good understanding on how this business works. I only have doubts about getting my first client. I don't feel like I can really steal a client from my current employer. So I thought about outsourcing B2B sales to external agency. Do you recommend any?

Advice on getting product into franchise retailer

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 07:19 PM PST

Hey guys. I own a small localized magazine company. My target distribution is within 30 miles of my home. I mostly go to independent convenient stores and gas stations. Theyre usually pretty easy to get into as they are not only independently owned but the owner is often on site. However, I would really like to get into a few local Quick Trip and Racetrac stores. Im nor sure of these are nationwide so some might not be famaliar but they are all franchised and coorperate owned. Theyre also usually the busiest with foot traffic. Does anyone have any advice on how I could contact them and try to get in their stores? Since my magazine is local I only need the stores in my area rather than all of them. How do I find the buyers contact information? How should I approach it? Thanks everyone!

Froyo - Orange Leaf Franchise - Good Investment?

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 07:57 PM PST

    Hi there,

I was in the process of purchasing a landmark Ice Cream Shop in my local town that has been around for 86 years...the day came to sign papers and the owner backed out. I had worked the past 1.5 years on putting together a win-win deal and somehow it fell through.

Anyways, there is an Orange Leaf in town (only Froyo location in my hometown of 32,000) that is up for sale. Anyone here have any experience with franchising in general, possibly Orange Leaf?

There are several pro's and quite a few con's to owning a franchise...just putting feelers out there to see what people's opinions are that have experience with franchises and being franchisees.

Advice on selling to a retailer who sells on amazon

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 08:33 PM PST

Im the manufacturer and brand owner and were a small family owned business. I sell wholesale to my retailers and some of them sell on amazon. The catch is, i sell on amazon too under a different name. However, i sell at outrageously high prices because i beleive in my own product and have after 2 years of hard work, i have created phenomenal listings. I only have 7 retailers who sell my brand of clothing on amazon and everyone has their own listing. I grabbed a new account from a recent teadeshow, and since were still in the initial stages of doing business, trust, etc... he has peanut size orders so far. The catch is, he has jumped on my listings and now is starting a price war with me. So essentially, whatever he is selling, its mostly from amazon. Without him i can push my shirts on amazon and keep all profit which ive been doing for the past 2 years. Now my question is, is it unethical for me to think too much abiut this? For example, this account's first order with me was 10 shirts, in february and now he ha sreorsered again 10 shirts. So hes just a fill in order type. Hes not buying most of my line and marketing it in his store. Even if his reorders come from in store purchases, hea just a fill in type. Sell one and calls to refill that same shirt. So, by having him on my amazon listings or allowing him to sell on amazon, affects me because not only do i sell more than him, whatever he sells on amazon, could have been my order and with much greater profit margin. If it costs me 20$ for a shirt and i wholesale it at 45 and on the side sell it on amazon for 130$ (which btw flies) what incentive do i have to keep him?

I am going to Rockport and Port Aransas in Texas. I want connections to people who would buy my photos. I need advice.

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 09:49 PM PST

For background, I have a travel photography business I run on the side. I am working on an undergraduate business degree in college and applying what I am learning to the side business. I take photos of landscapes, wildlife, wildflowers, and landmarks. The week long trip to Rockport and Port Aransas will be for both capturing photos and for business operations.

The two towns I will visit have high emphasis on art related to the local area. I want to get connections to people or businesses who would have use for as well as pay for my photos. The formats include prints and wallpapers.

There are some networking concepts I understand. I don't want to do cold calling because it is ineffective and will annoy the person on the other end. I know that I have to think about the other side before making my moves. I know people are more likely to do business with those who they get to know first.

What should I do to get direct or indirect connections effectively? What mistakes should I be aware of? What should I do so the person and I both follow up with each other?

The pricing will be on an individual basis and subject to negotiation. I am currently taking a class on negotiating and I will apply what I learned so far. I know that hardball tactics are both rude and ineffective. I read up on how to respond to hardball tactics. An example is if the other end proposes a wacky price, don't make a counter offer to it. It is a problem worth knowing about even though it may not happen. I will remain civil even if the other side is in the wrong. I know that I should carefully set a price range that is favorable and lower it as needed. I know that some details should be disclosed and others should stay secret. I know the other person and I should come out better. What advice do you have?

What advice do you have in general?

Hello fellow /r/smallbusiness redditors! I'm seeking inexpensive presentation folders. Our needs are simple. Simple 2 color logo on a solid color folder with a business card cut-out on one of the inner pockets.

I started with a google search and prices are all over the place. I also did a quick search of /r/smallbusiness and there was nothing conclusive.

I'm looking for the stickermule of presentation folders.

    Please send your recommendations.

Not sure if there is already a trademark for a business name I want..

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 05:20 PM PST

There is already a business that exists and has the trademark for a name very similar to what I would like to name my business, in the exact field as well. For examples sake lets say the business that already has a trademark is named "Roaring Lion Gum". Would I be able to file for the name "Lion Gum" or is it too close. Again they filed under exactly what I would file under, but in a different state.

Starting from less than zero, where do you learn the basics?

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 03:36 PM PST

    Hey all

I have no experience what so ever with starting, running, managing, or owning any type of business, only what I have heard. I would like to (slowly and carefully) learn the basics and see if it's something that I can do.

Don't mean to sound flippant, I have a great day job but have lots of extra time and energy and am tired of wasting it playing video games and watching movies. (note being on Reddit is not wasting time)

Where should I start ? Who are the best, most trusted Youtubers, writers, etc

Should I try a community college class?

Disclaimer: I have done absolutely no research, I am coming to you, my Reddit family to point me in the right direction, be kind :)

Not sure which accounting software to use.

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 01:33 PM PST

I am starting a new service based LLC. I will be the only employee and owner. I am not sure if I should use QBs or FreshBooks. I will need to send invoices from my phone. Right now for my other small business, I use QBs desktop. Also I heard FBs can't track non-invoiced income. I will have some people paying me who I do not need to send an invoice to.

    Any ideas?

State (NJ) payroll taxes for out-of-state (VA) employee

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 01:09 PM PST

Hi all, I think this is the right subreddit for this question! Sorry if it isn't :(

I have a client with a small LLC in New Jersey. He is looking to hire an employee from Virginia to perform work in Virginia. Anybody know where I can find some guidance on if his LLC has any New Jersey payroll liability?

My current understanding is that he doesn't, since the employee is a resident of another state and is not performing any work in New Jersey, but I have been unsuccessful at finding legislation either for or against my understanding. So any help is much appreciated!

    Thanks!

I'm struggling to get subscribers to my blog. Any suggestions would be great!

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 12:41 PM PST

    Hi Reddit!

I launched a new blog a month ago. Here are the numbers:

Page views - 481 Bounce rate - 77.16 New users - 248 All three of my posts have an average time on page of about 5-10 minutes, which means people are reading my content. But after all of this, I got only 2 subscribers!

Not sure where I'm going wrong. Should I change my pop-up service? Change my CTA copy? Are these numbers too low to expect subscribers? Any suggestions would be great!

Advice - my position when client is negotiating a less favourable deal.

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 12:33 PM PST

Good evening to you all! I am looking for some advice from some of you maybe more experienced in sales/business. Some background story: I have a small staffing agency and we supply staff to different clients either as a temp cover or on a temporary to permanent/permanent basis. With this client, normally I provide them with staff, they pay a placement fee and that's it. But recently, I had an agreement with their manager about having one staff who was doing temporary cover to become their staff but as a temporary to permanent basis. During this period they pay me an hourly rate and I pay his wage plus holiday, pension, etc. After this period, he automatically becomes their permanent staff. Now the situation: They said that they remember that we agreed on having him on a placement fee instead of temp to perm. I replied that is maybe a misunderstanding because the manager and their CEO they both said they are happy with him being temp to perm, and their reply was that they would be happy to pay a little bit more than the normal placement fee instead of temp to perm.

They way I see things: Firstly, our staff, has a solid background and experience (more than 9 years), he was really appreciated when he has done temporary shifts there and they have an advantage having him compared to a total new starter as he already knows their routine, duties, etc. Plus, I think, that if I accept their new terms and that they can change whatever our agreement was, they will take advantage of this in the future. Also, financially temp to perm is better as the profit is about 2x -2,5x compared to the placement fee I normally ask. More than that, it helps with cash flow.

Important addition: he has already started there, and has done some trainings.

Can you please give me some advice about this? Any help is appreciated.

TL;DR My company had an agreement with a client to supply staff to them. Now client wants to change the agreement for a less profitable one. Should I maintain my position and try to get original agreement or accept their offer?

PS: I am using a throwaway account. Who knows which one of them is surfing Reddit?!

I was advertising for my crowdfunding campaign. After around 1k clicks and zero buyers I stopped the ads. The product is priced the lowest it possibly can be. Any Ideas?

    Posted: 07 Mar 2018 11:56 AM PST

Its a product I'm passionate about and interested in. The product was in development for over a year. The highest quality materials have been used. Its priced the lowest it possibly can be and comparable to price of similar products. Market research showed nearly a 100% success rate for similar products that are of high quality design. I'm really stumped and cant figure out what is going on here. Any suggestions on what I can do at this point?

Update: If you need more information, the product is a card game called "Dark Dimension Tarot" listed on indiegogo.
