Looking to cancel an insurance policy after a few months, not for me. Looking to get an insurance premium refund for the last month, money was withdrawn yesterday and cancelled today

I singed up for whole life insurance a few months ago, which was misguided on my part so i requested to get it terminated today. I know I'm going to lose money and I'm not happy but was hoping to at least get the last premium payment possible refunded (Insurance premium refund). The monthly scheduled payment had been withdrawn from my bank account yesterday. I was told to do a written request for a refund by the insurance company. What is the likelihood I will get the refund and if not is there anything i can do on my banks end? I want to at least recoup some of the costs. Advice?

Off Road Jeep, Insurance company says vehicle is stock

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 12:17 PM PDT

I have a1997 jeep Wrangler and a girl cut me off and ramming my jeep at the same time. Her insurance says the jeep is a total loss, but they are saying they will only value the jeep as a stock jeep and all the extras we're my personal use. Is their something I can do or say to get them to consider the value of the accessories that have been damaged.

Earthquake insurance (& homeowners?): What happens if uninsured neighbors affect us?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 12:55 PM PDT

This is hypothetical at the moment, thankfully, but we are noticing that our neighbor's 2-story house's foundation appears to be a stack of old bricks and it's approximately 36 inches from our house and MAY be leaning our direction.

Our house is old (has survived LOTS of earthquakes) and retrofitted, but what happens if the neighbor's house falls on us in the next earthquake? (And what happens if it falls on us without any earthquake help?)

    Thanks!

Liberty Mutual raised my insurance for an accident I was not at fault -is this normal?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 07:47 AM PDT

I've had Liberty Mutual insurance for about five years now. In 2016 I was at a stop light and a guy rear ended me going about 50. He got a ticket (police report listed him at fault). After that, I focused on my recovery (physical therapy and getting my car fixed). I didn't want to sue because that's stressful and I was stressed enough.

Fast forward to 2018 and liberty just increased my rate by $113 a month. It was by $200 but I talked it down. They said it is from filing the claim because of the accident.

I had to file a claim because my car was nearly totaled and I had severe whiplash. But I was not at fault.

Is this normal? Can I do anything at all? I live in Michigan if that matters.

Going on 1 month for claim.. what should I do?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 11:05 PM PDT

I recently filed a claim with my insurance company and the drivers insurance that hit me. For detail: I was stopped at a red light exiting the freeway. A lady out of nowhere came flying up into the emergency lane on the right of me and took my mirror off. We pulled over, exchanged info, and was on our way. I filed a claim because I didn't want to pursue it through her and this is the first time I've had a claim.

I had an estimate done and it came out to around $400.. submitted it to my insurance and hers and my company said my deductible is $1,000 which is too high to keep pursuing the claim with them and to continue to pursue it through her insurance.

The accident happened 03/03/18 and it is now 03/27/18.. I've reached out to her insurance numerous times with no answers. I called today and they said they still haven't decided liability. She's clearly at fault and I'm not sure what my recourse is or what I should do? I've been patient and pretty understanding every time I've talked to them and I feel this is taking way too long.

16 year old son in accident... file a claim or no?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 10:33 PM PDT

My 16 year old son was parked near an intersection, entered traffic without seeing a car that had just turned right into the lane of traffic. No injuries, but $3,000 in body work estimate for the other driver's car.

Currently insured in California with USAA. He adds about $600/year to my insurance currently, because he is driving a, um, well-seasoned car with low Blue Book value.

How do I decide about making a claim? Any way to estimate the premium increase?

I know the right answer is "it depends on a lot"... but I'm just hoping to get some context to help in making a call. Also, I'm surprised there's so little data out there for the teen-first-accident question. Seems like it must happen a lot (if it didn't their rates would be lower)...

    Thanks!!

At fault auto accident in WA while driving separated wife's car. Neither of our carriers says they will cover repairs.

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 05:13 PM PDT

My wife and I are separated and have been living at separate residences for six months. Two months ago she bought a 2008 Toyota Prius and acquired an auto policy through Geico. My name is not on the policy. I have a 2007 Honda Fit with a policy through Progressive and both of our names are on the policy. I insured the Prius for a brief time after she bought the car while she shopped for insurance, but removed the Prius about a month ago.

On Friday we were in the car together leaving for the weekend together in attempts to reconcile. She was in the back seat feeding our baby and I was driving- it was the only time I had driven the car since she purchased it. We were in traffic on the freeway traveling about 30mph when the pickup in front of me suddenly came to a dead stop. I had enough time to slow down almost completely, but barely bumped our driver-side fender against his passenger-side bumper. Still, it was enough to break our headlight, mirror, and damage the fender and hood. There was almost no damage to the other truck's bumper.

Police were called, pictures and statements were taken, and I was cited for failing to maintain adequate following distance. I called my insurance and filed a claim. Next day I got a call back from Progressive and was told that in an accident the insurance of the car is used, not the driver, unless I had been hurt. It was my fault, I want to accept responsibility for the accident, but was stonewalled by Progressive. I figured since Progressive covers me when I drive rental cars that they would've covered me while driving someone else's car.

My separated wife called Geico and was told that since my name isn't on her policy that they won't cover the accident, either, which doesn't make any sense to me especially since we were all in the car together and I was operating the vehicle with her permission (obviously).

What do you think? Can this truly be a situation where we both have auto insurance and yet neither will cover the accident we were in? I understand no insurance company wants to honor a claim unless they have to, but this doesn't seem right.

What insurance is this? Coverage never expires?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 12:43 PM PDT

So I've been the primary on this health insurance plan for quite a while. I pay maybe a few dollars a month for it. When I call my provider they tell me coverage does not expire. I'm not sure what kind of insurance this is. My guardians (grandparents) signed me up for in when I was young (was a ward of the state for a while).

    Any insight?

    Car Insurance Question (ON, Canada)

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 02:35 PM PDT

If someone has put through a rear-end accident (I hit them) on my insurance, I know it will go up. But if they also choose to sue me (my insurance) for pain and suffering from that accident, will that cause it to increase even more than what the accident did?

Geico - Make a claim, or not! Not at fault!

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 12:46 PM PDT

    Hi everyone!

I was involved in a parked, rear-end collision on Jan. 2nd., 2018. I have yet to file a claim due to traveling, and honestly not taking initative.

I have a sizely dent in my passenger door. I took all of the persons information down and PA does not do police reports for small collisions.

I am insured in FL, and was on a road trip to CT. I have been out of country since returning back to FL.

My question is, will this raise my policy as Geico will see that I was traveling several thousands of miles? Does it not look good if the for not reporting this instantly? Do you think my policy will go up? (I had my front bumper replaced in 2016 due to debri in road, also not my fault.) Only claim that has been under my name in this policy, aside from broken windshield (2014, 2018), and a collision in 2011.

    Thank you all!!!

2007 Pontiac gxp $150 month for plpd?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 12:12 PM PDT

So I've has a company car for about 4 years and have not needed a personal car. I called up my previous insurance agency to get a quote on a positive toac gxp with the 5.3liter V8. I told them $150 a month seems high for a guy in his late 20's who hasn't had an accident in over 15 years or a ticket in the last 4. They said because it's a new car to me and I haven't had insurance with them in a while. Sounds weird is there a cheaper route? This wouldn't even be an everyday driver maybe 10k miles a year.

My car insurance has denied my claim and called it a "total loss", what do I do?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 12:03 PM PDT

My car insurance company has called my claimed as a total loss because the "damage to the car is worth more than the car itself." I have a 2012 Prius that has about 71,000 miles on it. They said they would give me a settlement to help with getting a new car, but I'm not sure how they warrant the worth of my car based off that.

The damage is on my drivers side door and the passenger door. The drivers door can't open but the passenger door can. Other than that the car drives fine and the interior of the car is not broken either.

I don't really know what to do next. Do I appeal or just try and get a cheaper estimate from a different auto shop?

Insurance provider dropped my insurance without the 30 days termination notice and did not provide COBRA. Can I get them in trouble?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 11:19 AM PDT

    Hello,

My insurance coverage dropped me without the 30 days notice, and notified me of the termiation 20 days after the coverage via email. They also failed to provide any cobra information.

is this something they can get in trouble for, and who do I talk to regarding this?

I live in California, but the provider is in DC.

    Question on Settlement Offer

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 09:17 AM PDT

    Hey All,

So, my wife and I finally bought a brand new car back on January 9th! However, on January 14th a distracted driver slammed into us on the highway at 65 Mph because he did not see traffic was stopped in front of him. He never even braked.

Fortunately I saw him coming and was able to poke the nose of my car to the side so we then slammed into a guard rail instead of the car in front of us. Airbags deployed and my wife and 2.5 y/o daughter were taken to the hospital via ambulance.

    My new car was totaled.

I stayed on the scene to work with troopers etc. Other guy was cited as at fault. We were not.

We were at the hospital with my daughter till 1am. Went home slept then went to hospital ourselves.

We are all okay and after some weeks of muscle relaxers, ice, and advil there will be no permanent physical damage.

However my daughter now cries when we put her in the car and talk about how the car is broken etc even two months later. My wife cant ride on the highway without white knuckling and freaking out whenever we have a hard stop, forget her driving. She routes all our trips to avoid the highway when possible.

I am still working with insurance and gap insurance to get everything paid out. We had a rental car but that stopped just a few days into the process once they declared it totaled.

So we bought a new car.. paid more down payment etc (on top of the 1K we lost in the down payment on the old car). Still making payments on the old car.

I am lucky so my job hasn't made me take off work to leave a little early here and there or come in late to get things done but there are a TON of logistics when your car gets totaled. Especially when its so new nothing is in any system yet.

We also of had to replace my wife's cell phone as it was damaged and a car seat since you cant use them again after a crash.

Insurance adjuster from the other guys company came back and gave us an offer:

$1000.00 each for me and my daughter $300.00 for my wife

I really don't want to hire a lawyer since we were not injured and we are not looking to get a huge settlement. But the amount they are offering barely covers the new down payment amount and phone and car seat. let alone the $1000.00 I have paid the last two months for a car I never even had!

I countered back with 3,000.00 per person figuring we would land somewhere around 2K per person and call it a day but the adjuster is not willing to deal at all and says he cannot consider any property damage.

I have quite a few friends who got MUCH larger amounts offered to them right of the bat for much smaller claims. Am I totally off base here? Given the emotional issues should we consider a legal route? I really dont want to do that. We just feel that $2,300.00 seems a bit light for having our lives turned upside down for two months.

    Thanks, Ludeth

    Medpay Question

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 08:08 AM PDT

I was in an accident on my motorcycle this past weekend. I've got two insurance policies through Geico. One policy that has two cars and the motorcycle on the other.

Well, since I have comprehensive/collision on the motorcycle Geico is going to pay out that claim but they said that my MedPay claim wouldn't be paid out as it's "not covered under the motorcycle's policy". But when I pull up their description of my MedPay coverage, it looks to me like it would be covered.

Anyone know? I have a pretty high deductible on my health insurance which is why I bought the MedPay coverage. Pretty disappointing if I'm not covered.
