    I'm looking for companies, and in particular websites, that have a group buying feature where people show interest in a product, and when enough people join the product is sold at a discount since it is being bought in bulk.

    Was this how groupon started out? Do they still have this feature?

    Strategic Opportunities for a traditional Trading Business - (Procurement Agency? Ecommerce?)

    Hi fellow redditors ... I just wanted to get some ideas on how to transform a traditional b2b materials trading company into a procurement agency?

    Some context:

    • Trading business sells a range of wood / timber-based materials (e.g. plywood, veneer, etc.)

    • Mainly procures from 2-3 overseas suppliers

    • One of the largest importers locally

    • Export operations were shutdown a few years ago

    • Local market is getting more competitive with designers and construction companies starting to procure directly with overseas suppliers

    Key business stakeholders would like to consider some strategic initiatives:

    • Building a B2B ecommerce platform (low ROI since 90% of clientele are returning customers that don't require additional interfacing support)

    • Building a B2C Ecommerce platform (unlikely option since the business is unfamiliar with end-consumers that would buy these materials)

    • Turning the business into a procurement agency to assist old/new customers that are procuring directly with overseas suppliers

    Any thoughts will be useful!

    Do also let me know if you know of a better business forum where I can get such advice :)
