    Best industry roles?

I'm curious as to what industries are best for us as far as room for promotion, salary, etc?

    The relief is real

    Posted: 29 Mar 2018 05:17 AM PDT

Long story short I've been looking for a new job since November of 2017. Ive turned down two other not so great offers between then and now. I've been in public for about 2 Years and not only have I realized I joined a crappy firm with poor leaders, I also realized that the workload and hours required are just to much for me.

We lost roughly 6 of our 7 seniors at the end of 2017, and now as one of the more experienced staff, a good chunk of that work has shifted to me and it sucks. I didn't like my job much before, but these last three months have been hell. New people are getting hired in but as the only experienced staff in the office, literally all questions go to me first, and I can't get anything done. I got an offer yesterday that ultimately I'm going to accept. I literally went to bed happy and smiling last night for the first time in a long time. I am so giddy this morning that I don't even care about the team meeting we have coming up that I'm going to get yelled at in. I'm out of here soon and I can't wait!

    Just wanted to share lol.

    Accountants on Adderall

    Posted: 29 Mar 2018 05:57 PM PDT

How prevalent is the addy culture in public accounting? I know that in some professions (investment banking comes to mind) you're at a huge disadvantage if you're not on it. Is it similar in public accounting?

I'm a first year and have noticed my energy levels dip significantly as I'm putting in more hours, but my colleagues have been grinding away (they've admitted to being on adderall). At this point, coffee isn't quite cutting it. Is it like this everywhere?

Anyone have or working towards a PhD in Accounting?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2018 05:57 PM PDT

I am contemplating looking into a PhD in Accounting and going the professor route. I am looking for some feedback on what a doctoral program in accounting is like. I would choose to go the audit route. Anyone have some experience you can share?

Ok so be honest.. is actual accounting as bad as this sub makes it out to be?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2018 11:58 AM PDT

I have one year left of school to graduate with enough credits to sit for the CPA. Honestly a lot of times I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. But I think.. hey, med residents, laws students, hell even engineering and high finance people all probably fee a little lost before they're "actually" in the field. They all require long hours.

I completely get it, most likely not going to be balling out in anything you do if you're not working long hours in your chosen profession. BUT, this sub's self-deprecating humor, memes, outright complaining make this industry seem head and shoulders worse than other "professional careers." It's relatively stable, good income potential not bad starting out, flexibility like industry, public, not for profit, etc.

So what's the deal? It is sort of a joke at this point on here to act like it is the worst thing in the planet you could possibly be pursuing and doing? Surely, there has to be some positives or people on here who enjoy what they do or at least don't mind it most of the time?

Forensic accounting or Audit? Internal audit?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2018 09:27 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I will be graduating this year with a MSA and a CPA. One of my full time options is a forensic accounting consultant at a midsized firm. It sounds more attractive than regular audit or tax. I was told that this field is less demanding work wise and work-life balance is better. However, I was curious as to what exit opportunities there are? Or are you narrowing your options to only being a forensic accountant forever?

    Thanks for any feedback.

Exit opportunities from audit working NPOs

    Posted: 29 Mar 2018 09:24 PM PDT

I'm working in external audit, almost entirely on NPOs. I know that people here have an idea of the exit opportunities available, so I was wondering if the exit opportunities are better or worse, and what differences I may see. What do you think may be different about my exit?

What kind of clients do B4 RA Internal audit groups deal with, are they large companies (F500), private orgs, etc?

Also how big are the teams/the structure of the teams per client? Is it like 3 staff, 2 senior, 1 manager or something else?
